The first rule of being a winner? Never lose your heart …
People think it’s easy being Felix Dodd III. And sure the fortune, legacy, and inheritance aren’t exactly terrible. But the name comes with so many strings, my hands feel permanently tied.
Like I’m stuck following in my father’s footsteps. Like I can’t trust people’s intentions. Like my grandmother wants me settled down before my thirtieth birthday.
I’ve got less than zero interest in marriage, ever since my one attempt at love crashed and burned. But Grams won’t let me access my trust until I’m engaged. Which means I need a fiancée.
Someone who’s looking for quick cash and a quicker getaway.
Someone like Lucy Devlin.
She’s got less than zero interest in me. But if I can get her to play along—just long enough to fool my grandmother—Lucy will be a whole lot richer, Grams will be none the wiser, and I’ll stay heartbreak free.
Just as long as I remember the new rule: Don’t love Lucy for real.

Rating: 3.5/5 Warnings: Loss of parents/ grandfather *This book is spice free
Just for some background info, I have not read the first two books, but I was able to jump into the story with no problem. I'm not going to lie, but I thought that Fix was going to be more of a grump in the story. Right off the bat, I was intrigued. This book was absolutely funny and cute, and trust me Fix and Lucy are everything! Don't even get me started on Grams! She was extremely funny and I loved her character. Okay, so after that I bet you're wondering "what's up with the 3.5 stars?" Don't get me wrong, I liked the book! I just felt like there was something missing. Absolutely no hate for the book or the author, this is just my opinion!! Overall, this book was so sweet and you should definitely check it out for yourself! :)
Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Highlights: - fake dating/engagement - foster family rep - found family
My thoughts:
This book was sweet and lighthearted. The flow of the story with the dual POV made for a quick and easy read.
The story itself wasn’t entirely realistic for me in many regards. It was weird because it felt both very instalove while also being very slow moving. Lucy and Fix had an instant bond and attraction. They shared a lot about themselves really quickly and got invested fast. It all felt really fast for me- a bit rushed. But at the same time- it took them a very long time to actually make it happen. The fake engagement felt very icky to me. With the money situation and Lucy feeling like she HAD to for her family. I mean- it felt very sugar daddy. Big yikes. I struggled with Fix with his issues, and I struggled with Lucy not having any boundaries with family, friends, or work.
I do think that was a huge part of the plot- her lacking boundaries/ never saying no and ideally growing into someone who can still be kind and caring while maintaining healthy boundaries with others. However - I don’t know that Lucy ever reached that point. Lucy and Fix both exhibited a significant lack of maturity for their ages.
With Grams- I was so confused if I should laugh at her antics or feel very concerned. We’re led to believe it’s a possible dementia situation- so I just couldn’t find much humor in Gram’s ridiculous behaviors because I was genuinely concerned.
With rom cons- it’s hard to find the sweet spot concerning humor. This book started off really strong, in general. Then just kept getting more and more ridiculous in antics and silliness. I was asking myself “who does this?”. I felt like I was reading a sitcom of ridiculousness that’s gone a bit too far.
I also struggle with accepting true love occurring after 2-3 weeks. These are just my own humor and love preferences that form this overall perspective - I know this type does work for a lot of people - it just didn’t work for me this time.
This book is ever so sweet. So gentle. All the characters are easy to like, kind, and again, sweet. Even the "villain" is, well, sweet. This is definitely a feel good story. I enjoyed it but I kind of wished for more sparks.
Don’t have to pretend, I LOVED Pretending I Love Lucy! This is the first book I’ve read by Julie Christianson and I can’t wait to read more of her books. While this is the third book in the Apple Valley Love Stories, it can definitely be read as a standalone. It’s a delightful romcom with witty banter, swoony romance, and fake relationship/Cinderella tropes.
Lucy is my favorite! She’s a sweet, funny, kind, bubbly character who’s always putting others first. Helping her mom and foster siblings is her M.O. and she doesn’t hesitate to support them. I had to laugh at some of the awkward situations she gets herself into like getting locked in a closet with her handsome fake fiancé, or hiding in the food pantry only to spill flour and spaghetti sauce all over herself. She’s also someone who deserves a happily ever after. I loved her term “betterness” and her top 10 book boyfriends. She’s a character you’d love to have as a friend in real life.
Felix Dodd III or “Fix” loves his grandmother who raised him. He’s handsome and thoughtful if a little self absorbed. The tragic death of his parents caused him to swear off marriage, and he’s still trying to figure out what to do with his life. When he gets a frantic call from Lucy about his grandmother’s antics, he immediately hops on a plane to Apple Valley. Lucy changes his perspective on everything. She brings him into her world and shows him what family life can be. In order access his trust fund, he needs to be married/engaged by his 30th birthday and offers Lucy a proposal she can’t refuse. But as time goes on, Fix just may wish the engagement is real.
The side characters are amazing! I especially loved Mrs. Dodd/Grams. Her eccentricities were so fun and she reminded me a bit of some of my own relatives. Even those characters who I thought might be the “villains” of the story turned out to be sympathetic and better than expected.
Loved all the fun pop culture references to Snow White, Sound of Music, Star Wars, famous commercials, and of course books. Highly recommend this fun, sweet, clean romance to contemporary and romcom fans alike. Excited to go back and read the other books in the series. Thanks to the author for providing an advanced copy of this book!
Y'all. I have been dying to get my hands on this book for months! For five very long months! That's 13,046,400 seconds! And boy was it worth the wait! 😍
The moment I picked up this book, I was transported back to Apple Valley where I sat with Grams and immersed myself in all things Lucy and Fix.
There's no pretending about it... I loved Lucy! She has got the kindest heart and is always putting others needs before her own. She has the hardest time telling anyone no and feels it's her responsibility to make sure her loved ones dreams come true. Even if that means keeping her dreams on the backburner.
Fix was just as great as Lucy. He noticed right away how Lucy would do anything and everything for the people she loves. She was constantly taking care of them. But who was taking care of her? Y'all. This man is freaking amazing! He's what heroes are made of!
I absolutely loved watching the relationship between Lucy and Fix develop from friends into something more. I'm not going to lie, it was painful at times and I wanted to shake some sense into both of them, but it was beautiful! I'm not afraid to admit that I cried some big, fat, happy tears!
I seriously adore this series! It's definitely one of my favorites and one I'll be reading over and over again. If you guys haven't given this one a try yet, I highly recommend that you do! It's full of love and happiness with the perfect side of swooniness. 😍
There's a reason why Ms. Christianson is one of my favorite authors and this book is a perfect example. I can always count on her to make me laugh out loud, get teary-eyed, and let out little dreamy sighs while read her books. I'm in awe of her talent and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!
As for my casting... *dreamy sigh* I love these two! What do you think?!
If I never again have to read a super predictable book where a 85 year old grandma is treated like a 3 year old and says “Wahoo” every 3 seconds, I can die happy.
This one wasn’t for me. I’ve read the first two books in the series and they were fine. I gave them 3.5 stars so I decided to give this one a try. I could never get into this book and I only saw the things I didn’t like, which is a bad sign for me.
I found a lot of the situations in the book to be way too unrealistic. I felt the plot had one too many things going on in it. A lot of the conflicts that should have taken up a little bit of time were resolved within a paragraph of them being introduced. Don’t even get me started on the ending…
I felt there was little to no connection between Felix and Lucy and I don’t even know why they love each other. I understand they are both generous and selfless, which is something repeated over and over again, but that’s really the only thing that I felt connected them emotionally. They had little to no conversations that didn’t pertain to Grams. How am I supposed to love your relationship, if your relationship is simply making heart eyes and talking about Felix's grandma the entire time?
Also Fix. How about no? This nickname bugged me so much. I usually never have a problem with names or nicknames but this one just pushed more over the edge for some reason.
I will say though, I do love how supportive the side characters were in this book even if they didn't know what was really going on. They gave me something to look forward to.
It made me so happy to get to read Lucy and Fix’s story. My Own Best Enemy left the reader wondering what had happened to Mrs. Dodd. And I needed that mystery cleared up. I have loved Julie Christianson’s world of Apple Valley. I can’t wait for another book set there!
I loved Lucy in this book! She is the kind of woman who wants to help her younger siblings go out there and get their dreams. I loved that she works so hard for her family. And she works hard for the library patrons. Especially Mrs. Dodd. The reader can tell that she had a special spot in all of the hearts of those who worked at the library.
Fix is the kind of guy who jumps on a plane as soon as he realizes that his grandma is missing. He’s also the kind of guy to go out of his way to try and help those around him. I really liked Fix.
And Grams. I LOVED Grams. She’s one of those characters who are larger than life. And she’s kind of sneaky. I loved how she was not above a little play acting to get what she wanted.
This is the best kind of book, for me at least. A little fake relationship always works for me!
I was so excited for this next book in the series, and I loved it as much as I thought I would. This book was as charming as the cute little town it takes place in. Fake relationship romances can be so fun and the author did a great job with it in a modern setting.
Mrs. Dodd’s grandson, Fix, is trying to take care of his grandma, as well gain access to a trust. In order to qualify for the trust, he must be in a serious relationship by his 30th birthday. Mrs. Dodd loves playing matchmaker in her quirky way.
I loved Lucy, and honestly, how could Fix not? I enjoyed that the author included foster care in the story. It’s always nice to highlight real issues. Fix and Lucy have a lot of chemistry and great moments together. There’s a lot of humor, mixed in with some serious topics, that make the perfect enjoyable combo.
This was a quick paced book and such a nice little happy escape from reality. I found myself smiling while reading it. Such a mood booster.
Sometimes, by the third book in a series, things can feel tired and repetitive. Be assured, this IS NOT the case with Julie Christianson's Apple Valley series! Each book just keeps getting better.
Lucy is a people-pleaser who just wants to take care of all the people she loves. Fix is a lonely, self-confirmed bachelor with a scheming and possibly crazy grandmother (whom he adores). They both have something the other needs, but they'll have to figure out what they need from themselves first.
I highly recommend this and all of Julie's books. I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All gushing opinions are my own.
I liked this book. I really liked the female main character and seeing the characters from the other books. As for the male main character, i felt like I never really knew him that well, even though we have his pov.
I liked the couple together but I wish there were more scenes with them together in conversation and not just interacting with each other when there were other people together. Because when we did have those scenes, they were great and they had really nice chemestry.
My favorite book is still the second, because I feel like the relationship developed more naturally in that story. This one felt insta love and slow burn at the same time.
The last chapters were my favorite and the extra 0,5 star it's because of them!!
I also liked the way
Now I'll be waiting for Tess and Spencer's story!
*I've received an ARC, by the author, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pretending I Love Lucy is book three in a sweet contemporary romance series by Julie Christiansen. I loved returning to Apple Valley, Oregon and getting to know our sweet library page Lucy.
Lucy is the sweetest character! She works so hard to take care of the people she loves and more often than not puts their needs ahead of her own. Lucy just gives and gives and never asks for anything for herself. Felix Dodd III, aka Fix, is trying to find his place in the world. All he really knows is that he’s expected to take his place at the head of the family company soon and that he loves his grandmother more than anything. Fix’s grandmother, Mrs. Dodd, is hilarious! She loves to spend time at the local library dressed in various costumes singing show tunes! I loved seeing Mrs. Dodd play matchmaker with Lucy and Fix. I kept going back and forth between thinking Mrs. Dodd is actually losing her grip on reality and thinking she was just pretending to be crazy. But I loved seeing both Lucy and Fix interact with her and do all they could to love and support her.
I always love when the main characters in a romance novel fill a need that no one else can. I loved that Fix was able to take care of Lucy in many different ways. Lucy is always the one taking care of everyone else and it was so sweet to see someone start taking care of her for a change. I also loved that Lucy was able to help Fix find something he’s passionate about and feel like he has a place where he belongs. Lucy and Fix are just cute together and I enjoyed seeing them fill the voids in each other’s lives.
If you haven’t read Julie Christiansen’s Apple Valley series I highly recommend it! Julie does a fantastic job of writing lovable and relatable characters. I love that Julie never writes bad characters. She once said during an interview that she doesn’t believe anyone is actually bad, just misunderstood or in a bad situation. That definitely comes through in her books! All her characters, even the ones that first appear to be “villains” are people you find yourself cheering for.
If you enjoy sweet romantic comedies with lovable characters you should definitely check out Pretending I Love Lucy and the other books in the Apple Valley series!
I adore Lucy and Fix! This book was so fun and sweet and Fix is now on my book boyfriend list! I’m doing some major swooning over here. I loved the fake dating/fake fiancé trope and Mrs. Dodd was the cutest meddling grandma ever! I have adored her since the first book in the Apple Valley series and it was great getting more of her story here. Love her and all her costumes, and seeing Lucy and Fix team up to help her stole my heart. This one was everything!!!
This book, y’all. 😍 I feel like I need to mention how much I like Julie Christianson. Not only is she a fabulous author but she is a super genuine and kind human being. Her positivity translates into her novels that make it so you can’t help but like her books and characters. Pretending I Love Lucy was adorable. I stayed up way too late reading it.
I’ve read the first two books in this series and Lucy’s story took me right back to Apple Valley and its library where each of the other stories originated.
I thought it was super selfless for why Lucy needed additional funds. Her personality was one to look out for others and give of herself in anyway she could to help her family or those she cared about. I think her personality was similar to her mom’s which I found sweet.
I loved that Mrs. Dodd played a large role in this story because she was a hoot. If you’ve read the other stories, she was the older lady who often showed up in costumes or sang various opera songs in the library. Grams was definitely one to either help or hinder Fix’s and Lucy’s relationship. Those almost kisses/tender moments had me wanting to throttle all of them. 😅 Probably because I felt invested in their happiness. I found some similarities between all three books, which Julie might have purposely done.
Overall, it was really sweet and definitely one you won’t want to miss.
I don’t have to pretend—I love Lucy! Seriously, this book is a funny, swoony, sweet read that is full of heart. You’ve got a fake engagement, a meddling, eccentric, hilarious Grandma, and so much fun in this story.
Things I Loved: -Mrs. Dodd/Grams -Betterness -Lucy’s family -Locked in a closet -Personal growth & healing -Triple themed party with coordinating t-shirts -Book boyfriend list -THE house -Sweetest/cutest grand gesture ever -Epilogue with everyone And of course, a HEA!
I laughed, I cried happy tears (again—I’m an emotional one), and I love this book! 💙 I absolutely love that this story includes fostering, my mom and her siblings were part of a broken foster system and I have a deep love and respect for good foster families.
Pretending I love Lucy by Julie Christianson. How much are you willing to do for money? Humiliate yourself, eat disgusting things, accept a challenge, or in this case–fake date someone. Lucy Devlin–a librarian wannabe–needs to support her family, put her sister to college, while paying her student debt. When a real life chocolate man (As in real human chocolate from Willy Wonka's factory – or so according to Lucy), who is in need of a fiancée to access his trust fund crosses paths with her what is the worst thing that could happen? Well, maybe get killed with a lightsaber... As Lucy's plain, ordinary, boring, vanilla life slowly changes into its polar opposite, will Lucy acknowledge her feelings for Fix? Will Fix change his opinion about marriage? I don't know (I mean I do know, just trying to be dramatic here ;) ) But what I do know is that – this story would be one heck of a ride! *** My Opinion: OH MY LIGHTSABER AND GRAMS!!! On my instagram review, I said that this book is chaotic, and even though that it is true, it's much more than that! I'm beginning to think that Julie is the inventor of chaos! I love how when disasters and illogical things happen in romcom/comedies, we just laughed it off and enjoyed it, if the same situation occurs to other genres, we would probably put the book away thinking, "That's the stupidest book I've ever read!". This sweet and closed door romance don't cease to make you swoon! It is totally going to be in my "read again" list! The scenes were so hilarious that I choked on laughter (warning: do not drink anything while reading this book, the liquid might go in the wrong tube) I love everything about this book. ESPECIALLY the chaos and hysteria. Did you know I almost went to the hospital because of one scene??? JULIE I WANT TO BE PART OF THAT SLEEPOVER SCENE (If you know, you know). One moment I was just painting my nails a mint color to match my mint mermaid skirt and mint top and mint sneakers (Which has nothing to do with whatever I am going to say next) I opened the book and read where I left off while eating my mint chocolate chip ice cream,,, then came the sleepover scene and unfortunately I was just about to swallow my mouthful when my eyes came to it and I was torn between laughing and chocking and gasping for air, my little brother was nearby and yelled "MOM! SHE GOT ABDUCTED BY ALIENS!" and that made me laughed even more to the point where I thought I'm gonna die. And can we just talk about grams? She is S O cute! I want her as my grandmother too! ~ Felix Dodd III ... No offense Fix, but when I first read his name for the first time, I giggled hard. There's no need to say anything about Fix, I MEAN, WHO DOESN'T GO WEAK IN THE KNEES WHEN A MAN LIKE HIM TAKES CARE OF A SICK WOMAN SO AFFECTIONATELY AND LOVINGLY. He is so sweet and understanding. And even though his past is hard, he is still kind to everyone. ~ Lucy is literally me in a fictional world. I've always wanted to be a librarian and I keep a notebook filled of names of my fictional crushes too! I fell in love with Lucy's loving character and selfless acts, how she doesn't hesitate to help people and how kind she is. I love how strong she is despite the pressure that weighs her down. She's another role model for me! ~ I love this book because: It is chaotic and hysterical (in a good way), it is hilarious (over the top funny), it has relatable characters, it has a cute couple, it is beautifully written, it is sweet and swoony. *** ^Sweet and clean fake relationship romcom^
Pretending I Love Lucy by Julie Christianson The third book in the Apple Valley Love Stories, Pretending I Love Lucy is a sweet rom-com that was just what I needed! Honestly, I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately. So I have mostly been reading a chapter of this and a chapter of that without really finishing much.. This was such a fun book though and I was able to finish it pretty quickly! Felix Dodd III has more going on than most think. Though fortune, legacy and inheritance can be nice, he feels like his hands are permanently tied and he is stuck between people’s expectations.. Even his grandmother wants him settled down before his thirtieth birthday, though his one attempt at love prior has crashed and burned But to appease his grandmother and access his trust, he needs to be engaged, and so needs a fiancée. Someone who also needs cash, and who can play along, someone like Lucy Devlin who has problems of her own. This was such an enjoyable book! I really got invested in the story, partially because I felt like I could relate to Lucy in a way. She was such a great daughter and sister, really trying to support her family. I also appreciated Fix’s love and attempts to help his grandmother. He was doing his best to figure out his life, even though he felt like there was a lot of expectations on him.. They were both very relatable and fun characters. This was a quick-paced book and of course, a lovely little escape from reality! It was funny, overall lighthearted, with wonderful characters! It is always lovely to see characters from previous books and upcoming books!. All of the supporting characters were so fun! Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I was so glad to have been able to read it! It is a clean romcom probably teen and up for a few slight innuendos.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Their story was so sweet. I loved Lucy and Fix. This book has a strong sense of family and that a family doesn't have to be a Mother, Father and siblings, but it can be a grandma and her grandson or a Mother and her foster/adopted children. I loved this and how it ran so strongly throughout!
I loved Lucy so much, shes such a wonderful and kind person, with the biggest heart who puts other peoples needs before her own everytime. Sometimes I wanted to reach into the book and sit her down and ask her what SHE wants for herself. The love she has is incredible and she's just such a sunshine and bubbly personality, I love her. Shes so thoughtful.
Fix, although he didn't see, is just like Lucy. Hes so thoughtful and wonderful, putting his Grams needs above his and wanting to look after her and when he gets to know Lucy adding her to that List too. His fear of falling inlove was written well and I just wanted to give him such a long hug. His story is a sad one but he's so honest about it when he does open up. They're both so similar especially when it came to hiding the truth of their feeling from the other for the exact same reason, so many times I was screaming "nope its real" "yes she does" "you're wrong he does like you oh my god"
I loved the insight of Mac and Brooke, Emi and Nash's love and their lives that we got especially at the end 😭 im so happy for all of them
I love Mrs Dodd, shes amazing. Like thay woman, I had my theory right from the begging and I was right. She just made me laugh so much shes just 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I can't wait to learn about Spencer and see more of Tess in the 4th book! I'm so excited for their story. I also hope Jonah gets a book, he was so funny I loved him. I have a theory his might have something to do with Val...😏🤫
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book is golden! I love all of Julie’s characters from Apple Valley, but Lucy may be my favorite librarian. It’s also really hard to pick a male favorite because Mac and Nash are also sweet men, but Felix Dodd the 3rd, aka Fix, maybe need to go on my *Fictional Heroic Men” t-shirt of the “most real mean” list. (IYKYK) He even admits that he is too self-focused. Like, WOW! How true is that?
I also loved this book because it continues the rest of the story of Grams and her suitcase. (Read My Own Best Enemy) and Gram reminds me of my own “Q-tip” haired grandmother. And the fact that they fell in love through taking care of Grams is just adorable. *Warning, if you don’t like instant love stories, be warned.
And the one liners!! Oh, so many great laughs! I’ve already posted 2, but there WILL BE MORE.
I could go on and on, but I won’t. So if you want to chat more, just DM me! 🥰
Here are my highlights: 📚Grams and ALL her costumes 📚Red high heels 📚The closet scene at the Gala 📚Pancakes 📚Fake dating, fake fiancé 📚Musical movie references - I now gotta go rewatch Sound of Music 📚The puke scene and all that happens after
You’ll want to read Julie’s first three books in her Apple Valley series because on April 1st she’s dropping a FREE novella and later this year book 4 will be coming out.
This book is so cute. What I just love is when the guy falls first. And in this book he falls hard. What are my favorite things about this book is the relationship between Lucy and her lovely man. They are awesome together. I love the marriage of convenience trope a lot, but this book is super unique and cute.
I really enjoyed the setting of the book. The entire town has such a charm. What a love is seeing other characters in previous books show up. The other thing I enjoyed was the circle of friends each of the characters had. This is quite rare and what I love is that each of the characters support each other.
The chemistry and the kissing scenes are really in the awesome in this book I love how Lucy falls and she falls hard. But what I also enjoyed was how compatible these two characters are. This book made me smile. I highly recommend you get it.
So, this books was absolutely beautiful. My heart melted for Fix and Lucy. Two people who are passionate about loving, caring, and taking care of others. The faking dating troupe is wonderfully portrayed with lots of humor and tension. There is a lot of miscommunication, but go figure. Faking dating can bring a lot of emotions and doubts. I don’t want to spoil the book, but I will say one thing the grandmother is by far my favorite character in the book! She had me on my toes laughing so much! Let’s be real old people get away with so much and being eccentric, it’s a like a free pass 🤣🤣 anyways I laughed, I aww’d, and I cried while reading this. Of course I recommend it. I have yet to read the two previous books, but they are on my TBR list. I’m so thankful to be provided this book when I signed up for the ARC team. All my opinions are my own.
Book Review: Pretending I Love Lucy by Julie Christianson . This was such a fun story! Another great book from a great series. I love Apple Valley and the people in it. This book was full of the amazing Mrs. Dodd that we met in the previous books. Lucy and Fix are so sweet together. I love that they balance and complement one another. Lucy brings out the best in Fix, and he reminds her that it’s okay to take care of herself too. There are some interesting boss/employee and fake dating dynamics between these two that made this somewhat of a rollercoaster for me. All in all though this was an enjoyable and lighthearted read. . My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Content: clean
Lucy is a people pleaser. She loves to help and lift others. But she oftens forgets to take care of herself. When Fix Dodds returns to Apple Valley to take care of his grandma, Mrs. Dodds (the eccentric lady who keeps the Apple Valley Library hopping), Lucy gets roped into helping him keep his grandma content and unknowing of their plans while they wait for an opening to see a specialist to see if she has dementia. But as they pretend to be a couple to please old Mrs. Dodds, their true feelings start getting in the way. Which is bad. Because Lucy dreams of a happily-ever-after kind of love with her own Prince Charming. And Felix (Fix) Dodds has vowed never to marry and commit to a woman. This setup made for a heart-tugging romance that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This was really cute, I read it in one sitting. I was surprised, a lot of fake relationships start off with needing money or for the sake of a family member and while those themes were in this story, I felt like Christianson put a twist on it to make it more unique.
Lucy and Fix were adorable and I'll admit I read the blurb hinting at this book in the previous one and was so excited. I also liked how Spencer's crush on Lucy was addressed and even Fix's ex was put in a good light. So nice that there was no real villain.
This is my favorite trope so I might be a bit biased with the 5 stars, but I liked this book a lot, it was super cute.
Returning to Apple Valley brings me so much joy! Pretending I Love Lucy did not disappoint although the fake fiancé was not realistic by any means, I still LOVED it! 🥰 Lucy is someone I would love to be friends with. Always caring about others over herself. The way that she loves her family is just beautiful. Fix is such a gentleman. I just wished he could have been open with Lucy sooner 🫣 but I loved him! Now Grams is a character! Full of energy and seizing the day!!!
Fix and Lucy were just the cutest. They didn't have the most conventional relationship but I'm so glad they were able to get their happily ever after. I'm also glad Lucy stopped saying she wasn't worthy of Fix, because she totally was. The ending was just the darn cutest and I just have to say Brooke in the epilogue is hilarious and Mac's reaction is priceless. I received an early copy of this book in exchange for a review.
It is difficult to make a contemporary fake romance work but Julie nails it will this one! I love Fix and Lucy in this story! Grams is hands down one of my favorite side characters ever! You won't want to miss this one!
*note can be read as a stand alone but this series is best enjoyed when read in order
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
This had me rolling with laughter. Grams carried this for me with her 'wahoo' every 2 seconds lmao. I loved this! The ending melted my heart <33
I related to Lucy so much with the 'I've set my standards too high because I have too many book boyfriends' kinda vibe. Fix was so sweet and was honestly the perfect 'fake' boyfriend.
Pretending I Love Lucy by Julie Christianson is a sweet and fun read! I enjoyed every minute of this delightful RomCom. For me, the characters make this story. I love Lucy (hehehe). She is such a great character, always there for anyone at anytime to help for any reason. Watching her interact with her family is great, but watching her with Grams is the absolute best. I really appreciate how deeply she cares for Grams, always putting Grams first and going along with all her silly, whimsical plans. As for Grams, she is a hoot! For an 85-year old, her energy is boundless. She is so smart and witty and cooky. Some of my most favorite parts of this story are when Grams is on scene. She made me laugh out loud. What I loved about her the most is her love for her grandson, Fix. She genuinely wants Fix to have the best of everything, including the best girlfriend. She knows her grandson down to his core, and knows that what he needs most is Lucy. As for Fix, what a sweetie! He is so observant. He sees Lucy for whom she truly is. He sees that Lucy takes care of every single person she come across and he really loves that about her. But he also sees that no one takes care of her, so he decides that he needs to do just that. What ensues is a sweet, but somewhat bumpy, road to true love. Such a fun journey — I’m glad I went on it with these characters.
Pretending I Love Lucy is a Contemporary Romance I won’t soon forget. With a full cast of excellent and endearing characters, witty and hilarious banter, and moments that had me laughing one minute then swooning the next, this book is definitely a must-read for any RomCom lover.
