Sky I’ve been hit with a Cupid’s arrow, and I can’t seem to break free of its hold. No, not a Cupid. More like a Demon’s curse. He has me trapped, drowning in the deep brown of his irises. I’m confined and bound by the devilish smirk that lines his sinful mouth. No matter how hard my mind tries to convince me to leave, My heart begs to stay exactly where I am, A prisoner to Hail O’Brien.
Hail I wish I never laid eyes on her, the girl whose face brings me nightmares of another. She’s a sinful package wrapped in an angel’s bow and I’m the Demon ripping it open. I tried to turn my back, to let her go but I’m too weak. I’ll use the excuse of protecting her to stick around but one day soon, She’ll be nothing but a distant memory, a name on a tombstone, Sky Martin.
**This is Sky and Hail's story and even though it will have an HEA. The plot will continue into the next and final book***
I’m totally speechless. A Verse for Caelum is Hail and Sky’s story; My favorite book in the series, and I think the author’s best work. She stepped up for craft and poured her heart and soul into this book. It’s a masterpiece.
When I think of a secret society or religion, this series is what I imagine in my head. The author paints a vivid world you get lost in. It’s dark, bloody, and gore. As much as it’s a dark romance, I say it also teeters on splatterpunk. Both are my favorite.
Hail is my favorite of the guys. As much as there are all damaged, Hail, I think, had it's the hardest and has more of a conscience of their actions. And guilt when it comes to Sky. Sky sees right through Hail. She is no doormat and has such a big heart. I love how loyal, fiercely protective, and has such an open mind.
There are so many twists and turns. One, I had a suspension and others no clue, and I was shocked to learn some of the backstories. One, in particular, I had no clue.
To say the author killed it is an understatement. She doesn't leave out one iota of dark details or spice of any of her books. The ending is just a perfected handoff to the next book in their series, and I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.
The Sacrificial Lambs series is my absolute favorite series. If you haven’t started it, today is the day to start reading it and fall down the dark hole with the rest of us.
Sky now manages Sanctuary, her entertainment night club, with friend Tiny, returning to the city and presumed normality. But is it? This story features couple Sky and Hail, key characters from first two books as well as the unrest due an unknown stalker.
A reverse age-gap, Sky and Hail are complementary; Sky, confident but vulnerable, indulgent of Hail's seeming reluctance; Hail, troubled, but enthralled, and he can't help but claim her. Possessiveness, spice, and suspenseful-thrill, I was completed captivated by this fated couple, this plunge into cult vibes and the attraction of the forbidden. This story showcased their undeniable, almost untenable attraction amid a sinister secret society, threats, and influences of past history. It also explored the harrowing childhood of the members of Deluge. Be prepared: The book is dark, psychologically dark, and disquieting.
I am almost without words to express the pleasure of this story, its uniqueness, creativity, and soul-searing darkness. Characters Sky and Hail, Tempest and Raiden, Tiny, and the devilish Deluge crew -- my soul sings. One of my favorite series.
Deluge has to be the most twisted band I’ve ever heard of – and I grew up to the sounds of Black Sabbath and Marilyn Manson. Personally, I think bats and broken beer bottles would be a bit tame for the likes of Raiden and Hail.
The previous two books – Sing Me A Song and Song Of Tenebrae – focused on the relationship between Raiden and Tempest. A Verse For Caelum moves the perspective over to Hail and Sky. The story begins right where Song of Tenebrae left off, as Sky and Tiny are flown to Las Vegas and Hail, Torrent and Squall leave for New York. Except you know things won’t be as simple as everybody doing as they’re told.
While we read about Hail staying in Las Vegas to watch over Tiny (and, by default, Sky), the other guys get up to god only knows what. Sky is on a mission to break down Hail's walls and get him to open up. Hail is disfigured and traumatised, so used to hiding in the shadows that nobody ever gets to see him. It was painful yet beautiful to see each brick of that wall fall at Sky's hands. Readers are given more of a view of how the four men met and what really happened at Loving Beginnings Orphanage. Quite frankly, that place is beyond scary.
In other parts of the story, we learn how Sky's aunt managed to fall into Deluge's path and what connects them all. Readers also get to see more of Incognitus and what they're doing to cause havoc in Deluge's world. My theories as to who is actually behind the character changed numerous times over the course of the book but don't worry all will be revealed in the final chapters.
Be prepared for a shock because there are multiple "no way!" moments in this book. It's also an amazing set-up for the final story, featuring Torrent, Squall and Tiny. Little hints in the book tell me the next one is going to be the best of the bunch.
My only complaint is that the backstory can become quite confusing at times. When you read about the workings of a whole, secretive organisation and try to recall information you read months ago, I sometimes felt I was missing bits. I could do with a handbook full of all the technical details because my foggy brain just can't cope with it all! 😂
Hail and Sky. I felt the connection of these two through the entire book and was unable to stop until I finished. Their story is full of pain and despair, in a way you can't comprehend until you've read it. We dive into the past and relive exactly what deprived actions have led to shape the person Hail is today, and how fate has placed Sky in his path. There appears to be something more than a surface plane these two are connected on, and it slowly solidifies throughout their entire story. A higher power plays a big role in this, as connections are revealed at every twist and turn that abruptly take you by surprise. I questioned myself and reread quite a bit just to make sure I wasn't missing something.
This was a quick read and definitely is dark. In some ways I felt this book was darker than the first two books in this series. There were parts that ripped my heart out.
I liked Hail and Sky in the previous books so I was excited for their story. I didn’t know how it was going to go because Sky was completely set against anything with Hail. Seeing the vulnerable side to Hail made me love him so much. Their love story is dark, tragic, and a bit crazy but in the best way.
I am excited for the fourth and final book in this series. Torrent really threw me for a loop in this book so I’m excited to see what C.A. Rene comes up with for him. Definitely check the triggers on this book but if you love dark books, give this series a try!
A Verse for Caelum by C.A. Rene is a dark romance.
This is the third book in the Sacrificial Lambs series and follows Hail and Sky's story. The series should be read in order since the plot continues through each book.
I have to say this book took me a bit to get into the story, but by the end I was hooked. The relationship between Hail and Sky is messy but you can't help but root for them. I really enjoyed getting Hail, Sky, Incognitus, and Torrent's point of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait for the final book in the series to be announced!
I would recommend this series if you like dark romances, erotic romances, or cult/Illuminati romances.
This is the third book in the series and it delves deeper into Hail and Sky's story!! The book also delves into more of the orphanage "Lovely Beginnings Orphanage" and how all the members of the Deluge came together!!
Reading about Hail's past and the life he's has to endure to make it this far without giving up was just amazing!!
The dilemma between being together and leaving Sky alone weighs a lot on Hail's head. The chemistry they share is just sooo hot!!!
The book was just amazing seeing Hail's character development and his ability to share his past with Sky and the lengths their relationship has come was just tremendous!!
The identity of Incognitus is finally revealed and it was someone I never guessed but looking back, it makes sense as to the identity. The character of Incognitus added a nice twist to the story!!
Hail and Sky’s story is painful emotional and super steamy. This is the third book in the Sacrificial Lambs series and what a dark suspenseful and thrilling ride it was ! My heart absolutely hurt for Hail in this book . We get a closer look as to how the guys became Deluge the writing is excellent the suspense is so good! Loved it!
SPEECHLESS! I am blown away and speechless. I have never read anything like this series and I am so glad I found it. The first 2 were so good but this one was AWESOME. We get to see hail and Sky's story layout and I loved seeing that. But what I real liked (call me sick but whatever..) I liked reading what they went through at the orphanage. It was sick and twisted and changed the lives of these boys (and girl) forever. A mystery is revealed after twist and turns. And that reveal was WOW! More of the past revealed and WOW! Blown away! There was no mention but I hope there is more because things that happened at the end... I need to know more!
I'm sure people won't agree with me on this, but I wasn't a fan of the book. Here are my reasons.
I felt like Sky was weak. She worshiped Hails feet, and to me, it was disgusting. It might be because the first two had Temp being a badass. I guess I just assumed Sky would be the same.
Hail well, where do I begin with him? He was sort of kind of like Raiden. He knew he loved her but yet pushed her away. I get his reasons, and honestly, I understand them. I would be as fucked up as he was if I was in his position. Don't get me started on the whole aunt thing. 🙄
These 3 books had me guessing who was the Incognitus, and dammit I couldn't figure it out till I got to the reveal part. Crazy to think of who it was.
Then, we have the epilogue, and I wanted to cringe. No, I did not see that small factor happening at all. What made me cringe was thinking now it's going to be a love triangle, and I am so not a fan. I know I'm a total asshole but hey, these reviews are for us to give our opinions, right?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series is so twisted. It's had me on the edge of my seat since I started it. This one is a lot darker than the first two, as Hail's past is pretty dark. Sky and Hail are deeply connected and Sky was always meant for Hail.
This one is full of content that may be uncomfortable for some. I feel for Hail so much. Even though it's 30+ years in the past, he still has some PTSD from what happened at the orphanage. There are a lot of flashbacks in this one, so just be prepared.
Although Hail and Sky have somewhat found their HEA, there are still things that need to be wrapped up for the series. This whole series has been a ride and now I'm ready for the epic conclusion that I know A Harmony of Procellarum is going to bring.
Wow, this book really is on a whole different level compared to Book 1 and 2.
I just recently read Books 1 and 2 and I feel like brushing up on their story before you enter book 3 is a must. This is Sky and Hail's story and it is a wild, suspenseful ride.
Essentially, Hail is at war with himself throughout the book. Obviously feeling some type of way, but not wanting to admit true feelings but also unable to leave her alone. Sky is at war with herself. She knows her feelings towards Hail, but since they aren't reciprocated, she hates having them.
Hail's dark passed has EVERYTHING to do with this story. Its definitely not a story for the faint of heart. We go back and forth from present to past at Loving Beginnings Orphanage. The trauma and sexual assault Hail/Hayes dealt with and how it turned him into the man today.
Incognitus is still present and creepily active, but when we discover who he is at the end, its a total game changer.
This book goes into explicit detail on Hayes history. When Sky finally opens "pandora's box" and gets Hayes to open up more out of his shell, their romance blossoms into the kind of love everyone wants but is afraid to go after.
I really enjoyed this book! This was a fantastic read and hit a lot of issues that goes on in the real world. This book contains detailed sexual assault, mental health issues, torture talk afterward, blood and more devil/hell worship. So you know...you've been warned. :) If you loved Tempest and Raiden's story, they are still present and included in this story as well.
I'm so ready for the next story. I feel like that one will be CRAZY!
*Overall 5/5 *Heat? 3/5 *Triggers (See above) *Slow Romance Burn *Romance once we got there was 4/5 *First person POV (Sky, Hail/Hayes, Incognitus) *HEA? As a romance, yes...however happy endings seem to be a far away thing for this group of characters
I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review and opinion, Thank you!!
A Verse for Caelum is the third installment of CA Rene's Sacrificial Lambs series. This book takes us deeper into the lives and backgrounds of the band Deluge, focusing on Hail and Sky. Their relationship has been brewing for awhile now, and we finally get to see how their growing tension in books one and two play out.
We know from the first two books that Hail was an unfortunate resident of the Loving Beginnings Orphanage along with Raiden, Torrent, and Squall. We get more background with Hail than we did with Raiden's books, helping explain further how the band came together and the horrors they've faced. Hail is even more damaged, this part disturbingly darker than Raiden's storyline. While he came to the orphanage in his teens, his parents were by no means providing a picture perfect life. We have an added element of health issues plaguing Hail now, along with a new character named Incognitus.
Sky has taken over Tempest's Las Vegas club, The Sanctuary, since Tempest chose to stay in Dominica with Raiden. Sky is a young, classically trained dancer who had a somewhat tough but loving upbringing. She has always been drawn to Hail's mysterious backstory and overprotective demeanor. Sky has her mind set that if she can just unravel the mystery of Hail, they could build a life together.
This installment is my favorite of the series so far. The character development with Hail is so well done, really helping to give more intimate detail to this group of men. Everything with this ongoing story became darker, more intense, and Hail and Sky just seemed more real to me. The action-packed ending sets up for the next book well, and I can't wait to see what comes next door this group.
Character development: 5/5 Dark elements: 5/5 Steamy scenes: 5/5 Overall storyline: 5/5 Triggers: Yes, indeed - murder, rape, suicide, assault, abuse of minors
This is my favorite book in the series, so far. The emotional depth that the author showcased in this book was phenomenal. I completely fell for Hail in this novel, and it is surprising to even feel anything for any of these men. The horrors of what these men experienced as boys will completely change your views on so much. I felt my heart breaking for them with each flashback and revelation because when it seemed like it couldn’t get worse, it did.
I feel like the first few books in the series follow Tempest more and they only gave some background on the men and cult. I think that this book focused on Hail, the other guys and the cult and it’s inner workings more than just the women. While these men are dark, the evolution and journey that they go through doesn’t make them completely “good”. Our ability to understand where they are coming from, why they want to do what they are doing increases and, in some cases, they are trying to do some good. A few parts were a little predictable but what wasn’t predictable was how I felt reading the epilogue.
I have a feeling that the next installment of the series is going to be even better than this book. There’s so much more for this author to explore and I cannot wait to see what happens
Holy shit!!! I am OBSESSED with this book! I LOVE Hail and Sky. Words can't even begin to describe how much I loved this. I loved seeing Raiden and my girl Tempest back.
Sky is now managing Sanctuary the club with Tiny. They are returning back to the city after what happened and will they have normalcy or not!? In this book it takes you deeper into the loves and background of Deluge, mostly on Hail and Sky. Their relationship has been brewing and we see them finally easing their way together even more. We learn more of what the members of Deluge went through while being in the Loving Beginnings Orphanage. Also learning more background on the other guys as well. Hail is even darker and more damaged then Raiden. Tempest and Raiden are still in Dominica. Sky has taken over her club, sky is a dancer who has had a tough life. She has always been drawn to the mysterious Hail and his background. She wants to find out what happened to him and be with him.
This book is action packed. I love all of the background that got put into this book. Things just got even more darker. I can't wait for the next book.
I’m obsessed with Ca Rene!! This book blew me away!
This is definitely one of my favourite series. I love the depravity, the dark theme and how truly twisted it can be. With that said please check your triggers!
These are some of my favourite characters. I love how ca rene really dives deep with her characters and takes the time to really develop and progress her characters. She gives them layers and I love getting to see each one unfold as the story goes on. I really like how no matter how twisted a character is she finds the perfect counter part, chemistry and dynamic between them so that they are well balanced. I have absolutely loved watching them come together and work out their places in their group and relationships.
Amazing vivid world build for this series too. Everything has so much clarity. I absolutely love being enthralled in this dark world and I hope we get to see more in the future. This has an amazing plot and it’s incredibly captivating. I consumed this book so damn fast I immediately did a reread to truly soak it all in. I absolutely love this story.
I had my hopes up....a dark romance that's for once not shifters, mafia, or billionaire boss with (supposedly) supernatural fantasy AND bwwm....love!
But this one barely kept my interest. I only finished it because I paid for it.
There was lots of talk of Satan and the devil but there never seemed to be any supernatural angle at all.
The FMC was the most bland version of an FMC....constantly thirsting after the MMC (even when she thought he killed her aunt years before), constantly making excuses for shitty behavior, and ALWAYS into whatever the MMC is into (all his kinks become her kinks). I don't like when an FMC is just waiting for a dude to tell her what she likes and is into. Have a personality ffs.
There's something ridiculous about a pouty, crude, cruel MMC that's in his late forties. The first 20% of this book with the way he talks and acts I was imagining a guy that was in his 20s. How are we still here in our late 40s?
Spicy scenes were bad, frankly. Female orgasms seem to not be a priority here. The majority of encounters the MMC just goes in (no foreplay whatsoever), finishes, and dips. 🫤
Where to start? Omg this book was dark and dirty and depraved and pretty much par for course when it comes to CA Rene. She knows how to turn your dark heart upside down. This is the story of Sky and Hail. A Hallmark story it is not. Their love is tumultuous and toxic. Can you see that Hail and Sky love one another? Probably not since their love is a toxic cesspool of pain, intrigue and sorrow. But they belong together. She’s in love with him. He chose her. They were meant to be. Sky is trying to put her life back together after being on the island. Hail reluctantly stays behind, at the request of Squall to watch over Tiny. But really…let’s be honest here. Sky is the reason. His only reason. The way he loves her, well, it’s not normal. But it really was thrilling to see their love develop throughout this book. Questions are answered. Some mysteries are solved. But it’s not over. It never really is.
This is such a great book and series. Sacrificial lambs is a dark series, with satanic ritual and real alpha jerks from the band Deluge. Hail is the most damaged physically, but also mentally from their shared awful past. He's dark and twisted, full of hate and rage and pain. Sky is a survivor, strong, fiesty and with a huge warm heart. As side characters, Hail was easy to misunderstand and Sky came across almost as a disproving mother type figure (but in that way of friends who are overly concerned with their friends lives.) Making them the main characters and delving deep into their pasts, their motivations and their slowly building love is soooo the right move here. C a Rene takes your preconceived feelings about these characters and manages to flip it. I loved their chemistry, their story and the overarching story at play here. Dark themes had better be your friend if you want to venture here, I really loved it.
I’m rating this book 4 and 3/4 stars really. Because I got a little lost with everyone having multiple names and if you have any distractions you can easily be lost and have to reread it. But let’s talk about how twisted and messed up and gloriously amazing this story line is. This book will require all your attention because you don’t want to miss the tiny details as this story unfolds. There are so many storyline Just criss crossing and then looping back around. You spend time going wait this is who it is behind this. No it’s someone else. There’s some major reveals in this book and sooooo many emotions. This book isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s dark and depraved and has a lot of triggers. If your twisted and love dark and dirty then settle in because this in one heck of a wild ride! Cannot wait for the next one!
WOW! That was one hell of a story! I thought for sure I was going to crack my kindle with how tightly I was gripping it. This story gave me heart palpitations, sweaty palms, and melted panties. It was dark, twisted, insanely suspenseful, bloody and violent – and I loved every delicious second of it.
Sky and Hail have a toxic start to their relationship, but it eventually grows into something more as the story progresses. We slowly get fed small bits of Hail’s background – which utterly destroyed my heart – and we come to fall hopelessly in love with his darkness. Sky and Hail together are pure fire!
Brilliantly written story with complex and utterly damaged characters that you can’t help but love (some you want to destroy) and with a storyline that is gritty, emotionally raw, enthralling, vicious, and shocking. There will be many WTF moments that will keep you guessing on where things are going to take us in the final installment.
This phenomenal author gave us a story that holds nothing back – she threw it all at us and left us utterly speechless and begging her for more.
A Verse For Caelum is the third book in The Sacrificial Lambs Series by non other then the queen of dark romances C.A Renee . Be prepared because once you start reading I guarantee you will not be abs to stop . I loved Skye and Hail so freaking much two people who have been through so much heartache in their lives yet somehow found the strength within themselves to move forward and live life to the fullest . Their story is definitely not a easy one . It’s so beautifully emotional and painful, it’s dark and twisted but oh so steamy . C.A Renee is genuinely one of my all time favorite authors , I can honestly say that I have never read a story by her I have not absolutely loved . Do not miss this phenomenal book
What a freaking story. Just mindblowingily good. This is Hail and Sky's story. This arthur just keeps surprising me with the stories she writes. You always know you need to check those trigger warnings when her dark side comes out to play, and you know It's going to be good it's probably why she's one of my favorite one click arthur's.
I loved these 2 from the other book's in the series and couldn't wait to read their story. It was everything I expected in this series. Who's going to be safe?
I cannot wait to read the next in the series as thing's are only escalating between the elders and the boy's.
A Verse for Caelum is Sky and Hails story and it is PERFECT!! This is CA Renes best book yet!!
I was glued to the pages from the beginning and couldn't get enough! We learn more about what went on at the orphanage, and how it shaped the guys into who they are now. I loved Hail and Sky's relationship, they are literally exactly what the other needs.
The whole Sacrificial Lambs series is just all around dark, dirty and will have you thinking what the fuck is happening, then by the end you will be saying how EPIC the books are!
I cannot stress enough how good this series is. It is dark and twisted and bloody and fan freaking tastic. In #AVerseforCaelum we find out in more detail what happened at Loving Beginnings Orphanage. We also find out more about Sky's aunt. I was unsure of how much we would actually get in this book when I saw there were only 13 chapters. But Holy crap there is so much packed into this one. I'm definitely going to read it again in case I missed anything. Chrissy, you are amazing and I am awed every time I read one of your books! Don't forget to check the triggers!
A Verse for Caelum was everything that I wanted. I liked this story of Sky and Hail, they play a game of cat and mouse, but taken to the next level. This story was full of action, I've got some more insight into Hail's life as a child. Those were not so easy to read. There are turns and twists, things that I didn't expect to happen. It was an engaging story and this makes me happy.
And the ending left me hanging. I can't wait to read the next book.
I recommend this series to be read in order, and certainly trigger warnings should be checked before you start reading it.
A Verse of Caelum is the third book in the Sacrificial Lambs series and it just might be my favorite. This book is mainly focused on Hail and Sky. I honestly didn't think this book would impact me the way it did! I was engrossed in it from start to finish I could not put it down. It was dark and dirty but also heartbreaking and gut wrenching. I love the women in these stories. They are strong willed and take no shhh🤫. And the men.... 🥵 let's just say they make me want to get on my knees and praise Satan. Phenomenal writing!
So good and a quick read. I’m interested to see what the next book brings and the relationship we will see. We will just have to wait and see what @c.a.rene brings us.
The storyline is unlike any other I’ve read and it’s DARK be warned! I took away a chili pepper cause while there is sexy scenes they aren’t very graphic and not a lot to go on. Which NEEDED to be that way to make Hails side of the story be complete. So it’s not a downfall it made the story that much better.
Only because once again, Chrissy writes characters that I wanna keep and get lots more out of, but NOPE! She just expects me to live my life and wait for her to give me more. I’m supposed to understand that they’re fictional characters so I don’t *technically* have to leave them, but I want more yesterday(which won’t shock her; she knows I’m needy 😂)
Like the previous books, check the triggers if you have any!!
This was Hail & Sky’s story, but we do see Raiden & Tempest. Don’t ask me to pick favorite. It’s not happening.
We get to see into their pasts, what makes them who they are.
I personally love spoilers and all I want to do is break everything down, but 😫😫😫 we’ll have to wait till after release!
This series keeps getting better and better! A Verse for Caelum is the third book in the Sacrificial Lambs series. This cannot be read as a standalone. There are huge trigger warnings, so please be advised
This story is so painfully emotional and so full of heartache. There's also more of a background of how Deluge came to be. Hail and Sky's story is wonderfully written. Seriously, C.A Rene outdid herself to this addition to the series. There's so many twist and turns and complete mindf*ck! I'm not one for rockstar romances, but this has to be my favorite series of that trope.
