The year is 1989, and Mandy Marsh and her father have just moved to Crowford. John Marsh has a new job at the town's train station, which means that Mandy has to spend most of her summer alone in an unfamiliar town. Until, that is, she makes a strange discovery at the bottom of the garden.
Something sinister is lurking in Crowford, something that seems to have ties to the railway line. Mandy makes a new friend who warns her about a ghost that haunts the tunnel, while John is unnerved by claims of a mysterious figure that can sometimes be spotted on one of the platforms at the station. Are these two stories connected? And if they are, does a ghostly warning hint at impending tragedy?
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Crowford series of books and hate to see the end of them. The Haunting of Crowford Station- a young girl and her father move to Crowford after the death of her mother. Within days she’s drawn into the Crowford mysteries.
A Casper the friendly ghost story with a just comeuppance at the end. Amy Cross is a brilliant British horror writer. This Crawford series of books is proving to be a great read. Amy if you’re reading this, I’m a big fan of your work.
Mandy didn't want to live in Crowford, in fact she didn't want to leave her London home and friends. Until that is, she meets a boy younger in years than her, who insists on playing in the train tunnel. Her father who has moved them to Crowford as a new begining after his wife [Mandy's mother] had died, is to begin his new job working at the railway station. Harry the present Station Master is trying to instil into his new workmate John that he should never, on no account enter the tunnel, even if a train is not yet due to enter it. What will happen when Mandy can't keep the young boy out, and John feels drawn to entering the damned Crowford railway tunnel?
Love this story Mandy and her dad moved to crowford after the loss of his wife her mum, she didn’t want to stay there she wanted to go back to her old house Then one night while left alone when her dad had gone to work she saw a hole on the bottom of the wall in the garden and she climbed through only to see a young boy on the railway line she shouted and the boy ran she followed him told him he shouldn’t be on the railway,he told he he was looking for a ghost his name was artie lots unfold from this story recommend a read
Read right through my nap, it was that enticing. If you've read all the Crowford books (this is number 11) then you'll, of course recognize people you've met in previous books. I like the way Ms. Cross writes she has mystery and vengeance in equal measure. The only thing i didn't like was Mandy's lack of respect, for anyone, really, and i think we're supposed to attribute that to her recent loss. I don't though. That level disrespect doesn't just come about in a year. She must have been very spoiled, yuck.
I just can’t stop reading Amy Cross books! I’ve especially enjoyed the Crowford series and now feel like I’ve lived there before! I’m SO glad the series has a couple more books! It is truly amazing how Amy Cross keeps this series going adding new characters and continuing the story of Crowford. I don’t like to put a lot of details in these reviews because I don’t want anyone to know…just know there are a lot of surprises and Amy Cross’s ghosts all have different stories and personalities. It’s amazing to me. Thank you, Amy Cross for helping me to “leave” this crazy world and spend time in Crowford! Please keep them coming!!
I really enjoyed The Haunting of Crowford Station. At first I didn't like the character called Mandy, but took to her as she became more determined to find out the truth about the ghost of Artie Jones. Great characters and believable too. I'll have to read more of the series now.
well written story read in one sitting as I couldn't put it down, loved the twists at the end as this is book 11 I think I need to find the other books to this series
This is an awesome ghost story! I enjoyed the personalities of the main characters. I was cheering on Mandy and her father, John searching to solve several mysteries and murders. Enjoy!!
It's been along time since I found a great ghost story, it kept me wanting to read on I pictured the whole atmosphere of the train station and the tunnel gave me chills.
Some towns have a haunted place. Crawford has so many that it is more unusual for a place not to be haunted. This story deals with the train station and the tunnel, death and a disappearance, and ghosts and hauntings. It makes a very interesting read.
Nothing wildly exciting in this volume except ... I really, really don't like the idea of being stuck in a railway tunnel with a train approaching. Or being stuck on a train line with the train approaching. Those scenes lifted a story that would otherwise have been fairly ordinary above the norm.
I was so excited to read this I’ve read all any cross other books on kindle and was out of stories to read. Then this become available. Perfect timing and great book
Ghost story about trains. A man with a secret who will at any cost keep it even if it means killing. Again, cover is throwing me off. Doesn't have anything to do with the book.

For some reason, this has been my favourite of the Crowford books so far. Maybe it just reminds me of playing on the railway line at night in my hometown - and my childhood obsession with ghosts.
What a marvellous book, and this is from someone who doesn't usually read Ghost stories, I don't like horror and usually find that ghost stories just want to scare you, This one has an amazing story and really deserves a 10.
