Two nursing students take an apartment in a Victorian house in San Francisco. One of these women gets involved in some steamy affairs with professional men and drugs. Sadly, she ends up dead. Poison was the cause of death, and it could have been an accident or murder. The poison came from a mushroom called Amanita ocreata. Several suspects could have profited by her death. The big question is, who knew about the poison and who also has a motive? The police find the case complicated by the world of transvestites, gays, drugs, and another death.
Elinor and Gina, nursing students with future plans, become roommates and witnesses to secrets of medical office staff, and university teacher of unusual sexual tendency. Drugs bind some and the overall marital power struggles tip the balance. Murders, and blackmail come from several different people. The story starts out slow but builds quickly as the pages progress. Poison, sexual identity, family bonds speed as fast cars to an accident. This was a free book to read and review. I am not connected to anything concerned. I did not fully get into the story until the murder investigation started to pinpoint the characters. This is a good read and would easily it into a whodunit video. Modern settings.
