The Whickertons in Love #5

Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss

Rate this book
In this second-chance Regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, two childhood friends discover that while love is patient, it certainly is helpful to have a matchmaking grandmother at hand.

A forgotten lady.
A tortured earl.
And an invitation that will change their lives.

England 1803: LADY JULIET BEAUMONT, eldest daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, has loved and lost…long ago. With her hopes dashed, she turns away from seeking a match and continues on as her grandmother’s faithful companion, grateful to find happiness in her wild, boisterous and utterly unconventional family. Yet, every once in a while, a distant part of Juliet’s soul cries out for the man she once loved, unable to even contemplate the notion of choosing another. After all, one cannot give away one’s heart if it is no longer in one’s possession, can one.

CHRISTOPHER HURST, EARL OF LOCKHART, left England years ago, turning his back not only on his family and the title that was never meant for him, but also on his dearest friend. Always has he loved Juliet, and yet it is only in the very moment that Fate forces him from these shores that he realizes he is in love with her. The realization comes far too late.

Until the Dowager Countess of Whickerton—known to those who love her as Grandma Edie—calls Christopher back to England. He doubts whether it is wise to return, afraid he will find Juliet married to another; however, no one in their right mind would ever dare refuse the dowager.

And so, Christopher does return…and the moment he finds Juliet’s bewitching green eyes look into his once more, he knows he cannot lose her a second time.

England 1803: Lady Juliet Beaumont, eldest daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, has been her grandmother’s faithful companion for the past few years, grateful to find happiness in her wild, boisterous and utterly unconventional family. Christopher Hurst, Earl Of Lockhart, left England years ago, turning his back not only on his family and the title that was never meant for him, but also on his dearest friend Juliet, and yet it is only in the very moment that Fate forces him from these shores that he realizes he is in love with her. The realization comes far too late. Until the Dowager Countess of Whickerton known to those who love her as Grandma Edie invites Christopher to Harriet's wedding.
This is the fifth book in the series & it could easily be read on its own but the Whickerton’s are a close knit family so to fully appreciate it I’d highly recommend the whole series. This series goes from strength to strength, Juliet has featured in previous books always at Grandma Edie’s side & always at her beck & call, we finally have the answers. I was drawn in from the start & held on this emotional roller coaster until the end. What an emotional read it was, definitely a two box hankie novel but I also laughed at the sisters' matchmaking skills or lack of them. Grandma Edie was awesome as always. Juliet came into her own & was able to be her true self. Then there was Kit who whilst annoying at times learned that keeping secrets doesn’t pay. I found this to be an achingly beautiful book & can’t wait for Troy's book, which was set up deliciously
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This is an amazing story! Grandma Edie is a matchmaker. Juliet and Christopher make a good pair.

Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss, by Bree Wolf. This book was a little different then the other books that I have read from Bree Wolf. This love story has more narrative in the story than dialogue from the characters. The narrative held the story together and moved the story along. The details and descriptions in the chapters helped me to visualize and imagine the scenes played out in the book.
The dialogue was easy to understand. It was wonderful to read a story where the author chose to write in a heroine who was age was older than twenty one or twenty two. For me this helped reading the more intimate scenes easier. I thought that the dialogue kept the topics at the forefront and explained a number of things. The dialogue helped the reader feel the emotions, rage, heartache sorrow, as well as light humor from the characters.
I like how Kit and Jules story shared with the reader all the wonderful experiences that the two shared together, not just in romance, but of life and family. I found the book easy to read. The humor was a bonus that added some fun to the romance of the story. The characters were wonderful and fun to read. The steam level for the book is a little timid, but as I stated the book focused on the romance between two old friends and that made this story even better to read. Until next time my my fellow readers… read on!

The kiss referenced in the title of this book is delayed multiple times—no doubt to tease the reader—but it is not beautiful. The book is a giant tease, an attempt to lure the reader into believing there is a plot, when there is the barest thread of a story.

A man and woman, between twenty-three and twenty-five years of age, had been friends their entire lives, their estates being next to each other. He is the second son of a duke, she the daughter of an earl. When the duke’s heir dies, this second son turns tail and runs, finds trouble, then runs away from everything, including his best friends, the woman whom he loves and her brother. “Everything” (according to him) is falling down around his ears and…wait for it…it’s all his fault. What’s a man to do, but run?

That’s our hero.

Meanwhile, our heroine has nursed a broken heart for six years. She’s never been asked to dance, although she’s quite pretty we are led to believe. She’s never been considered worthy of being anyone’s wife. She’s the eldest daughter and all her sisters are married. She’s wanted marriage—with love, of course—and children, yet this has been denied her; we aren’t told precisely how or why until chapter 28. But we are beaten over the head with the concept of her deepest desires being thwarted.

The Whickerton matriarch, Grandma Edie, pulls all the strings. Whatever her advanced age, she is in robust health until she must pull a string to manipulate events. Then she’s frail and in need of help. Apparently, no one stands up to her and we are given to believe her meddling is kindly meant. She is a bit of a wonder. The second son, our hero, has lived a life of lies and has led everyone to believe he’s on the continent having a grand old time. In truth, he is not, and Grandma Edie just knows this and calls him back home, knowing how to locate him when no one else does.

Our hero, the second son returns six years after running away. Juliet is still at home, waiting for a life that doesn’t seem to be happening for her. They meet again. Up to this point, the storyline is passable. It could become vastly interesting. What has he been doing? Why did he run? Why has our heroine dedicated her life to heartbreak? We don’t know. And we don’t find out for an incredible 51% of the book. That’s right. An unbelievable 51% of the book is spent in dithering. Indecisive, hesitant, irresolute, vacillating, faltering dithering. The main characters’ thoughts are laid out for us, and for twenty-four (yes! 24!) chapters we are treated to the same questions being asked by each of them over and over and over and over and…. Merciful heavens! It just doesn’t stop.

The second son, Christopher, is frozen by his lies and inaction. He goes back and forth: would the woman he loves ever care for him again? (Heaven forbid he just ask her.) What if he told the truth? (Oh yes, lies are always best.) He’s not worthy of her friendship, let alone love. He’s made unforgivable mistakes, and no one must find out. He’s undeserving. He’s a liar. What did she mean when she looked at him at dinner? Why is she looking at that Scotsman? And on and on for twenty-four chapters.

Our heroine, Juliet, is no better. She’s a marshmallow. She allows herself to float along a path of least resistance, seemingly happy enough to allow others to make decisions for her. She wonders about Christopher, for years her dearest friend, who one night simply left, never to be heard from again until six years later when Grandma Edie calls him home. Could he still love her? (Heaven forbid she just ask him.) She’s unworthy of love because no man wants her. She’s hurt deeply by Christopher’s defection and has been nursing her wounds for six years. (So, dissembling is a best behavior?)

Even at the 51% mark, the questions do not end. Add to them, lots of contrived misunderstandings. On the plus side, all this repetition makes it remarkably easy to speedread. As an experiment, I skipped two chapters and kept reading, then went back and slogged through the two I had avoided. I hadn’t missed a thing…just more dithering.

There’s a lot to dislike about this story. I’m not going to share the most egregious because they give away the reasons for Christopher’s defection and Juliet’s inability to attract a husband…but I will say the reasons are not so insurmountable, particularly given that the Whickertons are such a loving, forgiving family. And the reason that Juliet has not made a match borders on the cruel. She’s been made to suffer for six years, and that's a terrible thing. (Hint: shame on the matriarch.)

I did not like the writer’s pushing jealousy as a part of love. Juliet is made to feel jealous when her sisters titter on about matching Christopher with a friend of theirs. That was severely unkind. Jealousy has no part in love. It’s caused by feelings of unworthiness or possessiveness, not love.

Juliet is not a sympathetic heroine. She is made to seem shallow and unable to make up her mind about anything, always doing what others tell her to do. She’s made to faint at the silliest moment. The writer makes her sit and be still when she should have been up and demanding answers of someone who purported to be her friend. And—in truth—friends don’t treat each other the way Christopher has treated Juliet and her brother, Troy. Christopher has been lying for so long, it appears he scarcely recognizes the truth and cannot trust the woman he loves, nor his former best friend, with his truths.

I rated this book 1.5 stars and dithered myself about rounding up or down. It could have gone either way. The book’s a solid 1.5 stars. I rounded up because of the delight in finding few grammatical errors—that is its own pleasure. The first twenty-four chapters could easily have been condensed to three, there is so little in them that fuels the plot or feeds a love story. There is a rehash of characters from previous books and tiresome questions that do not stop. The high ratings on this book must come from Ms. Wolf’s fan base—and good for her—but for those of us who do not want to plow through interminable questions without answers, and immensely contrived suffering on the parts of the hero and heroine, it is not a pleasant read.

Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss (The Whickertons in Love #5) By Bree Wolf. What an amazing story. It was great to revisit the Whickertons and see why Lady Juliet was purposely kept as her grandmother’s companion. There are scandals and secrets decades in the making, taking responsibility, confrontations, a true mothers love, reconciliations, and a wonderful journey to a HEA. The book can be read on it’s own, but well worth reading all the books in the series. Just go out and read it, I don’t think you will be sorry. I was given and advance copy and have chosen to write a review.

only one word for this book, Aching!

Achingly Beautiful! The most appropriate title, one word sprang to mind throughout the entire story… Aching! Bree Wolf has a way of making the emotions real, my heart clenching, achingly nervous for each new revelation. I have not had so many emotions reading a book in a very long while. I found myself constantly wanting to shout at the characters, their feelings so obvious yet deep pains create deep doubts. In the beginning I found myself eager and anxious, by the middle giddy with excitement and through the end weeping like a babe feeling their sorrows and joys deeply. I am always in awe of Grandma Edie’s ability to move the family like a master music conductor. Seeing each members needs and instantly knowing how and who they need to fill them. Juliet has always stood to the side while everyone else shined, it is appropriate that her story was epic. She waited a long time for her Happily Ever After and it fulfilled Achingly Beautifully!

Juliet Beaumont is the oldest daughter of the Earl of Whickerton. Juliet has never married. She is the companion for her Grandma Edie. She has watched her four sisters find happiness and marry. She is happy with her life or so she thinks. Christopher Hurst, Earl of Lockhart, left England six years ago after his brother Sebastian died and he became the new Earl.

This is a charming second chance at love romance. Christopher and Juliet were neighbors and close childhood friends but everything changed when Christopher’s brother died. Christopher had a tough childhood but Juliet was always there for him. Christopher finally returns home at the invitation of Grandma Edie for Harriet’s wedding. Can Juliet and Christopher find their way back to each other? Can they overcome the obstacles that can prevent them from rekindling their love? Can Juliet help heal Christopher’s relationship with his mother? The romance of Christopher and Juliet builds slowly. They are both vulnerable but together they become a strong couple.

Grandma Edie is a cute and endearing character. She meddles just enough in her family’s affair to get the outcomes she desires. She wants all her grandchildren to find love and happiness. She will do whatever it takes to help them. Grandma Edie knows what her family needs and she will nudge them in the right direction. The story flowed and kept me hooked. I could not wait for them to finally get together. This is the fifth book about the Whickertons. I look forward to reading the next book in the series about her brother Troy and Nora. This is the first book I have read in this series. The sisters and their husbands are fun and interesting. I plan on reading the other books about Juliet’s sisters. I received a free copy of this book from Wolf publishing and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

The miscommunication in this book??? It pissed me off so much
As soon as he said he had a son I was out, he was feeling sad and heartbroken his brother died so he got drunk and slept with another woman, she got pregnant surprise!

Yes they weren't together but he still loved her and she loved him too?? He went and left for Ireland disappeared for years and she didn't get married because she was too heartbroken too

The writing was great but I did not like the MMC, just a reminder that men will be men fictional or not.

Lady Juliet Beaumont who has resigned herself to taking care of grandma Edie finally gets her chance at love. Her childhood best friend Christopher Hurst comes home at last after leaving his family and Juliet years before with a dark secret he was too afraid to share. Beautifully written the story shows that love can withstand even the darkest of secrets.

I was given an advance copy of this ARC review and am giving my honest opinion.

Where did all the angst and uncertainty go?
Juliet finally gets her chance at love although fraught with angst and uncertainty. And of course she gets the help of Grandma Edie, the veritable behind the scenes matchmaker. I love that woman! One never really knows what lurks in that mind of hers but always it is scheming with ways to push along that romance for her grandchildren. In this one between Juliet and Christopher, she invites him back from Ireland to the Wickerton Home in England. She’s known that Juliet and Christopher have a long history with each other and was hoping he would return home to England on his own, but now after six years she knew she had to spur their romance along. It worked but not without a whole lotta, you guessed it, angst and uncertainty. I also love that we get updates on the other children and their successes in marriage. It kept me smiling throughout this story during the hard times that Juliet and Christopher were having with their own relationship. It took awhile for Christopher to finally share with Juliet the reason that kept him away for so long. I was surprised to see that Juliet was the one who took the bull by the horns, so to speak, and sort of cornered Christopher. It was a long time coming but Bree Wolf made it all worth while as she always does. Now we have Troy’s story to look forward to. I am very much looking forward to that one.

Book was Meh and Dragged on

I wanted to like this book more. I feel like these books are going a bit off of the rails. I forgave part of the crazy plot in last book with a two villains that I couldn’t fully buy into, but the hero in this book took the cake for me. It was extremely frustrating to me how he handled things not only torturing himself, but three other characters with the secrets he kept for years. I feel like he had the emotional intelligence of a child at some points.

As for the heroine I found it a bit odd that she never tried to find out why he left. She just blamed herself. Why was that the her automatic go to? I also found it strange that her brother never told her why the hero left once he knew. He’s painted as being a protective older brother, but I found it odd that he saw her suffering and had some answers for her that he didn’t share.

I found myself stubborning going forward to finish this book, as after the secret for why he left was out. I felt like this book dragged on and on. I’m hoping I like the next book better. I would give this book 2 1/2 stars if I could as I feel a 3 stars is to high of a rating but a 2 is too low.

I have read all of the stories in the Whickertons in Love Series by Bree Wolf and have loved every one of them. It is so enjoyable that the grandmother is the instigator in each story. I have been anxiously waiting for Lady Juliet’s story because she is the oldest but for reasons never clarified in the other books she seems resigned to take care of Grandma Edie and was not looking for marriage.

Lady Juliet and Christopher Hurst her childhood friend she calls Kit were very close growing up. When his brother Sebastian is killed in a riding accident six years ago he becomes the Earl of Lockhart. He never had a close relationship with his father and something happened when his brother died that caused him to leave home leaving Juliet heartbroken. So now we understand why she was never interested in finding a husband she already loved and lost.

Grandma Edie once again is matchmaking and invites Christopher (Kit) to the wedding of Harriet and Jack. Interestingly enough she has invited another potential suitor for Juliet too. Lady Juliet is surprised to find Kit at the wedding.

After six years apart can these two put aside their doubts to open up to returning to their friendship or more? Juliet is afraid to open up to the possibility of more with Kit because he seems to ready to leave once again. He is reluctant to explain why he fled six years ago and without knowing Juliet is hesitant to hope for more.

I was impressed in the way the author introduced the history of Lady Juliet and Kit and cleared up some of the question I had about Lady Juliet, I was surprised when it was revealed Grandma Edie chased away any potential suitors interested in Lady Juliet and in essence by having Kit return this was his only opportunity for his HEA with Lady Juliet. He either convinced her of his love or would lose her forever.

Bree Wolf has once again written a beautiful second chance at love story and I cannot impress enough that this is a fun loving, romantic series worth reading. All of her characters are well written, relatable and different which makes their stories so enjoyable. You will have your own favorite as I did but each book is special in its own way. I anxiously await Troy and Nora’s story!

I received an ARC copy of the book from Wolf publishing and highly recommend it!

Years of misunderstandings!
Christopher was always treated differently by his parents and only sought their love and approval. He never received it but his friendship with Juliet Aka Jules made his life bearable!
Christopher is summoned home to attend Harriet Lady Jules sister’s wedding!
Christopher lost his brother Sebastian 6 years before and made a very foolish mistake! He made the mistake so much worse by disappearing from Jules life! He left her devastated, broken hearted and wondering what on earth she had done for Christopher Aka Kit to cut her out of life like that!
He left saying he was touring the European continent and that’s the story that circulated for the last 6 years! Troy, grandmother Edie and Kit’s mother all know the truth!
Kit believes surely Jules has married by now!?! She had not in her deep down dark recesses of heart she waited for Kit! Only for Kit to be told that this big handsome Scotsman is somehow now Jules betrothed!???
When Keir Aka Scotsman urged Jules to tell the truth she chased Kit down to find out if he loved her!
Well Kit has to share a secret that could make or break his relationship with Jules!
Will Jules forgive him no love as in a suitor had been discussed before!?? They were inseparable best friends but so much more than either knew at the time! Kit wallowing in His foolish mistake never gave Jules a chance until now to decide if she could love and forgive him!??
Where does this handsome Scotsman fit into all of this? Why did Jules ask him to kiss her!!?? What!!
This story is full of secrets revealed including a lost letter and why a parent could not love their child!! If you want a nonstop breathtaking ride then read this book it will show you glimpses into the past, present and future!
One annoying thing **slight spoiler** Jules cried way too much and was way to fearful!!
When she did decide to be brave nothing could stop her! So much wasted time for them and another couple! Can’t wait for Troy and Nora’s story!! The best one yet in this series!!! 🔥🔥
** I received an advanced copy of this amazing book! Stayed up way past my bedtime too! 😉

This was the story I have been waiting for ever since meeting this wonderful family- LADY JULIET BEAUMONT is finally going to get her turn at a happy ever after. Every book has had the oldest sister Juliet, always off in a corner taking care of grandma Edie. She's never seen on the dance floor as each one of her sisters has found love. But the Dowager Countess of Whickerton or Grandma Edie to her family, is up to her old tricks again as she plans to bring that special someone into Juliet's life.

The prologue introduces the close relationship that Juliet had with her best friend Kit. She was his emotional support and he knew her every expression. So when Kit's older brother Sebastian is killed in a riding accident leaving Kit or Christopher as the heir to the Earldom, Juliet knows she will need to comfort him. His parents have always treated him differently than his two siblings and the death of his father's favorite son didn't change that situation only made it worse. Whatever had gone on between father and son seems to have driven Christopher away from his home breaking Juliet's heart.

CHRISTOPHER HURST, now the EARL OF LOCKHART, left England six years before, turning his back on his friendship with the Whickerton family especially with his best friend Juliet. Being called home by The Dowager to attend Harriet's wedding has him regretting all of the lost years not being with his best friend, who he had finally realized was the woman he loved. Discovering that Juliet has never married - he is hoping to have a second chance with her but he may be too late as grandma Edie has invited another man to visit during the same time.

Juliet does not want to get her hopes up about Christopher as he seems to be intent on leaving again and he has not been truthful with her about his reasons that he has stayed away. Will Christopher finally reveal all of the secrets that has been keeping them apart?

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Bree has created another wonderful story around the Whickerton siblings, once upon an achingly beautiful kiss is Juliet and Christopher's story.

Christopher (Kit) and Juliet (Jules) have known each other all their lives but during the Spring of 1797 Kit's older brother Sebastian's death changes everything as Kit becomes the future Earl of Lockhart, and following a night of drunken revelry he also becomes a father. Resulting in his disappearance from Jules's life.

Six years later Kit reappears in Jules's life determined to find out if the love he carries for her is reciprocated and whether they have a future together especially when she discovers the real reason for his disappearance from England and his supposedly roguish jaunt to the continent.

How will Jules feel when she discovers that the man she loves has fathered an illegitimate child, can she accept both Kit and his son and will they discover what is at the root of his mother and late father's animosity towards him an animosity that has shaped his whole relationship with his parents.

Theirs is a truly wonderful story and centres around family, love and responsibility which features all of the Whickerton siblings, their spouses, their parents snd most of alll the their redoubtable matriarch Grandma Edie.

I received a free copy of the clean historical romance Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss: The Whickertons in Love book 5 by Bree Wolf, and this review was given freely.
A story of love and healing that contains heartache, realistic characters, the drama of a close-knit blended family, and a happy ending for Lady Juliet Beaumont.
I was drawn in by the promise of finally learning why Grandma Eddie was keeping Juliet single but soon became captivated by the everyday family life and drama.
A string of unfortunate and violent circumstances, lead to a young and unhappy Christopher “Kit” Hurst seeking friendship and love in the neighboring vibrant and close-knit Whickerton household but, a drunken life-changing event brings heartache for both the Whickerton and Hurst families. Six years after he becomes Earl of Lockhart and on the day of Harriet’s wedding, Kit and his sister Nora, as well as Juliet and her brother Troy, find themselves reunited by the scheming matchmaking Grandma Eddie and the married Whickerton sisters.
May be read as a standalone but is best if read in the series order as the novel provides a brief review of how the couples began as well as glimpses into three current romances.

I loved reading this book. I have been reading the series and always wondered about Juliet. Why was she the eldest and had resigned herself to spinsterhood and spend all her time as a companion to her grandmother Edie. I always wondered why she was so quiet and withdrawn. Well, this book explains it all. Her heartbreak when the dearest best friend of her life Christopher left five years ago. He left without a word or goodbye. Now he has returned and feelings resurfaced for both of them. Each had to fight their way through their fear, doubt, rejection and secrets. And let me tell you the secrets were major. I was totally blindsided by some of them. One especially was why Christopher always felt unloved and unwanted by his parents. Shocking and painful. However, when Juliet and Christopher were able to speak the truth and be open about things that is when the magic of their romance truly began. I had a smile on my face most of the time because of the verbal back and forth between Juliet and Christopher. But especially delightful was the way they danced around the truth they felt for each other. This is a must read. I highly recommend it

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read
Happily Ever After
Page-turner
Romantic
Realistic
Unpredictable
Wonderful characters

Ms, Wolf has provided us with a wonderful story of the eldest Whickerton sister Jules and her childhood friend Kit. All four of her sisters have now found love and have married, but she is still a companion to her grandmother. But Grandma Edie has plans for Jules – and that is to get her reunited with Kit in this second chance at love novel.
This is an excellent addition to the Whickertons in Love series. The author has created a strong plot line, realistic and likeable characters as well as witty dialogue. As the story starts at the wedding of Harriet and Jack, we get to see the other sisters and their husbands again. I always like to peek back into the lives of my favorite characters and see how they are living!
Ms. Wolf handles difficult subjects in the story with sensitivity and tact. She unfolds the backstory of the characters carefully so that you are eager to understand why and how they got to this point.
I highly recommend this book! It is really excellent! I am looking forward to seeing Troy and Nora find their path. And finally to see why Grandma Edie sent for Keir!!

Six Years of Regrets

Although part five of The Whickertons in Love series, Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss is a sweet and well written standalone read by Bree Wolf.

This second chance love story is simple, but with some serious secrets to reveal.
All of the characters are delightful. Heroine, Juliet, clothes her strength in a quiet gentleness, while Christopher, the insecure hero, has many regrets but a strong desire to rekindle the relationship he once shared with Juliet. Even the supporting characters are both lovable and charming. By the time I read the very sweet ending and sigh epilogue,

I look forward to a second chance love story for the last Whickerton sibling.

Content 411: This is a clean read with NO swearing or sex – Only sweet kisses.

Growing up together, Juliet Beaumont and Christopher Hurst have always been best friends. All of that changes when Christopher's older brother dies and leaves him as the new Earl of Lockhart. Always criticized for not being good enough for anything, Christopher has his doubts about the responsibility. Not long after he becomes the Earl, he disappears for six years never explaining to Juliet why he left, never sending a letter. On a summons from Juliet's grandmother, he returns to England to the Whickerton home, the home he's always thought of as his real home. Juliet doesn't trust him not to hurt her again. To keep her he needs to tell her his secret or lose her forever. Another secret is revealed. I thought this book a little long and had a tendency to drag.
I still give it points for the second chance trope.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book gifted by the author.

This is the 5th book in the series Whickertons in Love, and I have loved every book so far. You do not have to read the other books in the series to enjoy this one, but if you do you will know some of the characters. This is a clean romance between Juliet and Christopher (Kit). They have always been friends, but then something which Juliet did not know pulled Kit away from her. Juliet is the oldest of the Whickerton sisters and has been the one to take care of their grandmother (who I love). Because of this Juliet is almost 30 and not married. Kit comes back into her life, and this is where the romance starts. There is love that is built upon friendship for years between them. This is a well written book by an author I adore.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am giving my honest opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tender-hearted and warm romance between Juliet, the eldest Whickerton sister who's become responsible for Grandma Edie and her younger sisters. Jules, always the demure, level-headed sister practically becomes undone when her longtime ago childhood friend Christopher (Kit) returns for her sister's wedding. But why is he there? Who even invited him? And why did he leave so abruptly years ago when tragedy struck his family? Kit has a secret that only his sister and mother know. Of course, his mother also harbors a secret. So much hidden baggage that nearly destroys relationships. What a gem of a story! So many tender, intimate and swoonworthy moments! And Grandma Edie's manipulatives attempts to work things out for her family is a funny interlude! Can Jules and Kit overcome all odds of a future together? A wonderful romance!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series watching the Whickerton sisters find their perfect match with the help of their absolutely adorable, interfering Grandma Edie. It was nice to see all the sisters come together in Lady Juliet’s story. She is the oldest sister but the last to find love even though her heart has always belonged to her childhood friend and neighbor, Christopher. Six years earlier his brother died, making Christopher the Earl, and he disappeared from Juliet’s life, leaving her devastated. Then after all these years he turns up at her sister’s wedding, invited by her Grandmother. This would have been a five star read for me had it not been for the annoying way they lied to each about their feelings, over and over again for half the book. The romance after that was quite sweet, and secrets to be revealed, made for a very enjoyable read.

Juliet was the eldest of the Whickerton daughters. She had been the most maternal and for years she had been a companion to her grandmother Edie. Grandma Edie was meddlesome but only in a good way and seemed to know things that no one else knew. It was rumored she had once been a spy.
Her main goal in life was to see her grandchildren married to their perfect match.
Juliet had had her heart broken and Grandma Edie had to ward off would-be suitors until her true love returned for her.
Christopher had been raised a second son and was as so many spares, never as good enough to his parents. When his older brother met with a untimely death, he became the heir. He was so shaken by his brothers death he went to a tavern and got drunk. He had never done that before. Serious consequences followed and he disappeared for six years.

I received "Once Upon an Achingly Beautiful Kiss" from WOLF Publishing and Bree Wolf and voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is the 6th book in the Whickertons in Love series, and it may be the best yet.
This is Lady Juliet Beaumont and
Christopher Hurst, the Earl of Lockhart's story. Two people who have known each other so well and for so long,  that their lives are interlocked, but fate separates them. We see how actual life sometimes determines our hopes and dreams. Juliet hides herself by taking care of her grandmother, while her family continues to evolve; the world around her moves on and she remains rooted. This is a true love story of determination and commitment.

It’s part of a series about one family but you can read it alone. It has been very nice to see Juliet find love finally.
She has seen all her sisters marry for love while she cares for her mischievous grandmother. Kit had always been his best friend but disappeared six years ago without an explanation. Now, the wonderful grandmother has invited him for the wedding of Harry. How will Juliet react? Will he explain why he left?
Sweet reading, with less dialogues than Bree’s other novels, but it is a well written history with lots of mysteries.
You’ll enjoy it if you like sweet romance, forgiveness and second chances.

We have waited a long time for this story to come out! Juliet is the sister who has always been counted on to take care of Grandma Edie. Christopher had been gone for 6 years. He disappeared after the death of his brother and the marriage of his sister Nora. Juliet has missed him terribly as they were best friends growing up. A lot of secrets come out in this book! Some that are very difficult to hear but give us an explanation to why things were the way they were. I did find that the story seemed repetitive in places but I guess that was to make sure we understood what happened. Another fabulous story but I have to say I can't wait to find out Troy and Nora's story! I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is my own honest opinion.

clean romance

A sweet story of second chances and forgiveness and redemption.

This next book in the series is like the others as it is a stand alone book. But also like the others, each book adds depth and details to the other characters in each book…within the family .

The hero struggles with being unwanted by his family and mistakes he has made in the past. He loves the heroine but feels unworthy of being loved.

The heroine has hidden her desire deep within her heart as she loves the hero as well but also feels abandoned by him many years ago.

The story of honesty and love open the next phase of their lives.

I look forward to seeing how the next story unfolds.

Tigger warning: Rape is mentioned as an element of the story but was done with discretion.

Lady Juliette Beaumont had her heart broken by her best friend. He's back. Now what?

The dowager Countess of Whickerton is a force to be reckoned with. Grandma Edie as she's known, has determined it's time to help her eldest granddaughter "Jules " finally decide what or rather who she wants. This lady has a flare appearing innocent as she skillfully meddling in others affairs as she makes it seem like it's their own idea. This time though, for Juliette and Christopher she has to get even more creative than usual. For this " competition" she'll need re-enforcements. This touched on some painful issues, the need to open up, tell the whole truth, acknowledge mistakes, seek and bestow forgiveness . It was a thoroughly enjoyable read.
