When the orcs invaded the human dimension, no one could stop them. War raged for years, and now the monstrous beasts have agreed to peace on two conditions: one, the human scientists must rebuild the machine that brought them into this world; and two, they must be provided with fertile brides to bear them orc babies.
Wendy Bennet is stuck. Stuck in life, stuck in her career, and definitely in love, where nothing worth mentioning has happened in years. She’s obsessed with her job as an investigative journalist, but she’s hit a ceiling, and if she doesn’t do something soon, those prizes she’s always dreamed of will never land on her shelf. She’s been interviewing orc tributes for a piece she’s been working on for months, but the problem is that once they are chosen by an orc and join a horde, they stop talking to her. Then she gets an idea – if she offers herself as tribute, she can get a story that will launch her to the next level.
Torgar the Molten has never felt lonelier. After he was gravely injured in battle and his mage brought him back to life, everyone has feared him and avoided him. No female wanted to mate with him, and now that he’s in the world of humans, he’s lost all hope of finding someone who will look past his monstrous body and see his soul. But if he goes to one of those institutes for orc tributes and takes a human bride, she won’t be able to reject him. Because the sole purpose of the system is to keep the peace between humans and orcs. When he sees curvy, sassy Wendy, he decides – he will make her love him.
Author’s Note: This is a full, standalone novel with a happily-ever-after. The books in the Orc Mates series can be read in any order.
Cara Wylde loves to write about strong, feisty women and their hot Alphas who will do anything to make them happy. Her books are filled with romance and just a dash of mystery, suspense, and that eerie atmosphere she fell in love with reading too many gothic novels. With a master's degree in Comparative Literature, she can't help but play with tropes and themes from various genres, trying to come up with fresh perspectives on the paranormal characters her readers love so much. Vampires, shape-shifters, demons, witches... Cara will always make sure they get their own twists.
When she's not writing, Cara is reading, planning her next story, or daydreaming. Her idea of pure heaven is a day filled with nothing but her laptop, a huge coffee pot, relaxing music, and a new, exciting project.
This was another entertaining fantasy read with an orc you'd just want to bring home ;) He was a sweetheart. Wrapped around his determination to have a mate, is action, drama and unexpected twists. Can't wait for what's next by this author :)
Torgar the Molten is a nice, quick afternoon read when you need an orc fix! Wendy was a little hard to take at times, a little too egocentric for me and at several points, I just wanted to give her a shake - although she does come to see the error of her ways. Interesting secondary characters and a sweet cinnamon roll orc hero made this an enjoyable read 💚. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wendy is a journalist - and has just broken up with Paul. Her boss is urging her to find new stories - so she decides to become and Orc tribute, and write from the inside. Torgar the Molten is alone - although he has his horde, and he knows they respect him, he lacks the love of someone special. He decides that a tribute bride might be the answer. He chooses Wendy - but of course life is never that simple! Love the twists and turns in this story!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Torgar is the latest installment in the Orc Mates series. While it is set in that world, it does not include any of the prior orc mates, sort of. I'm going to party just a little bit here because the author decided to answer something that's been bugging me. Yes, the humans ARE interested in the brides and want to read stories about them. But, the brides don't want to talk to reporters after they join a horde. That is a major element of the story! Yippee! I'm not going to give away how the author handles that very important question but I thought it was pretty darned satisfying.
Wendy decides to become an Orc tribute but she doesn't plan to stay an Orc tribute. Her friends tell her it's probably not a great idea but she is determined. Torgar decides it's time to try to find a mate because he is an outcast and kind of lonely. Can they figure out a way to make a relationship work or will Wendy break poor Torgar's heart when she leaves him?
This is the first book that really tackles the complexity of a modern, career-driven woman becoming a tribute and her not settling in well at first. I can't say what exactly happens but Wendy gets to be part of the horde and away from the horde and the reader gets to see both parts of the story. I was afraid that I would be annoyed by her personality but she turned out to be a very well-developed character and I really liked her by the end. Torgar is almost too perfect. No, I won't take it back! He wants Wendy to be happy so bad that he's willing to do anything for her. In the end, his devotion to her and his love for her was really touching (yes, I am talking about a book that is an Orc love story but just trust me). The rest of the horde is only explored a little but the characters that get time on the page are good and interesting.
I just have to say that the horde speaking such good English was a bit odd to me. And the fact that Torgar reads English is a bit odd to me. Why? Well, the horde seems to have no concept of money and I would think that after 6 years on Earth AND knowing so much about the language would lead to some knowledge of money. Just saying.
This is a post-apocalypse Orc love story set in a fictional town and in the mountains in a fictional Orc village. I will read the next book in this series. I am enjoying seeing how the author keeps the stories fresh and different. Bonus! They are all fast reads so they make a great between book. Wendy is a journalist who wants to become a successful writer. She is friends with Lori who manages one of the tribute orc bride stations. When Lori talks about how things are tough because they aren't getting any government help or donations, Wendy wants to help. Her editor doesn't want any more pieces on becoming a tribute bride but he would be interested in a piece about humans who have settled in with an orc tribe. Wendy is fascinated by this idea and does her best to reach out but she can't find anyone willing to be interviewed. Desperate she does something crazy. She decides to become an orc bride herself. After a couple of weeks of living with the tribe, she plans to tell her orc husband she can't handle the orc life and beg him to return her.
Wendy goes ahead with her plan and finds herself claimed by an unusual org captain. Torgar the Molten is an orc that most other orcs fear. One of his arm was horribly injured and was healed by magic with a mixture of molten metal and and stone. Wendy doesn't know if she should be terrified or happy. Luckily Torgar is a lot nicer than she expected and seems willing adjust to his claimed bride. Unfortunately Wendy has been lying to him. Wendy is an investigative journalist who needs more information about the orcs so she volunteers to become an orc tribute to infiltrate their camp. A tribute is a human female who may be chosen to join the tribe in order to bear an orc male's babies. There are orc females too but there's no accounting for tastes. Apparently orc females aren't that interested in mating with human males, go figure. Wendy does not intend to stay for long but things get complicated.
Torgar the Molten once died but the death didn't want to keep him, and now everyone is scared of him, even the other orcs. He can be caring and tender too, and vulnerable to getting his heart broken. He is a fascinating character, and it's too bad that his potential gets wasted by being demoted into just another minor character for big chunks of this book. Most of the story is in Wendy's head, and we get just a couple of glimpses inside Torgar's mind. We hear about Wendy's childhood, her ex, turmeric lattes, and so on, when I wanted to read more about Torgar. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was interesting for me. I don't have triggers (seriously, people overuse this word), but I do have story types I prefer to read. I'm a happy, happy, joy, joy type of reader. And...while this story does have a super happy ending, this poor MC really goes through it to get there.
Here is the triggery part and it might be spoilerish for some, but I will keep it vague.
Otherwise the story is good. The MC goes through a life lesson process and the hero (while emotionally hurt...) helps her learn and grow. They both learn and grow. I will say that the MC isn't my favorite person on Earth, but she is learning.
Again, I prefer my stories to be lighter in subject matter, but this was a good story, well written. Good characters, world building and rich culture for the Orcs. I liked it!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wendy Bennet has big dreams of becoming a prize-winning investigative journalist, but her current project has hit a major roadblock. She wants to complete her story on Orc brides, but once the tributes leave the Bride Institute there is no way to connect with them. So, since her personal life is going nowhere, she decides to become a tribute herself, but just long enough to find out the truth. After his mage brought him back to life he is feared, female orcs shun him, but he wants a family. He visits a bride institute to find a human bride where he chooses Wendy to be his mate. He doesn't find out until too late that she has lied and has no intention of spending her life with him. I love these characters; they are all well written and fascinating. I also think that their thoughts and feelings are very realistic. A little action, even a few suspenseful moments, some behavior that could trigger some readers, and unexpected twists in the plot. A must read steamy paranormal romance with a happily ever after. I loved this book and I look forward to the next book in this must-read series.

I really enjoyed Torgar and Wendy's story, a little more Torgar and less Wendy would have been good but that's only my opinion. I did get annoyed from time to time with Wendy, she did some really crappy things and never thought of the long term effects or consequences of her actions. Thankfully Wendy did learn and grow throughout the book which was good to see and Torgar tries to stand by and help her to learn and grow. Torgar is respected but feared and therefore lonely, he's gruff, grumpy and an absolute love, everything you could want in an Orc or man. This is by no means straight forward or boring, there's a couple of twists and turns that you aren't expecting. The world building is great and the characters are well written and you find yourself really rooting for them but Wendy's stupidity may be too great, you definitely want to read and find out though. The editing could have been better to be honest, the odd spelling mistake here and there but definitely not bad enough to ruin the enjoyment of the story. . What a great book and the storyline had me rooting for Torgan the Molten right till the very end. Wendy Bennet is a journalist who hopes for the big break with the story from tribute brides but as soon as they get amongst the horde they stop talking so in order to get the story she puts herself up a a tribute bride. Torgar the Molten was gravely injured and was brought back by the mage but now everyone is fearful of him and the females won’t come near him either and Torgar is very lonely and decides to get himself a human tribute bride who will over look his scars and love him for himself. And Wendy is perfect for him and there was an instant attraction but when the truth comes out about why Wendy is really there will Torgar protect the woman that he loves and what happens if she doesn’t love him back and leaves. There is so much more to the amazing story and the answers are all inside. Great book and a must read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wendy is a journalist who has been fascinated with the Orcs and their brides. She sees how these women are the earthbound magic keeping the peace between the two species since the war ended. Thing is as soon as they become brides they just don't want to really talk to her anymore. She needs to know what happens so she does the one thing that will get her her story, become a bride herself. Torgar considers himself to be an outcast. He is feared by all other orcs and as a result is achingly lonely. He seems to be on the fringes of his own society. He also knows that there is no chance of his ever getting an orc bride so he finally and reluctantly decides to take a human tribute bride. Nothing prepares him for Wendy nor the effect that she will have on him. Will she leave as soon as she gets her story? Will Torgar have finally found peace? These are some of my very favourite books. The more I read the more I fall in love with the hordes, mages, krags and all. Fantastic!
This was a cute story featuring Torgar the Molten who is lonely. Having been seriously injured, females don’t seem to want him. In fact, they fear him. The only way he thinks he can get a bride is to go through the orc tributes and accept a human as his mate. He is hoping someone can see past his physical body and accept who he is.
Torgar sees Wendy Bennet and he falls in love, hoping that he can convince her to love him. But Wendy is not being honest. She puts her job as an investigative journalist before everything else. Interviewing other brides was a dead-end since they stopped talking to her when they found their Orc mate. So now she is using Torgar and the other Orcs for her own career advancement. Will Torgar’s wonderful disposition and loving ways convince her that he is the right choice for her? Will she try to leave when she gets what she wants? Grab your copy and enjoy a heart-melting story.
Torgar (H) is an Orc feared by even his own kind in part due to a battle injury that distinguises him from other Orcs. Wendy (h) is a journalist in search of a story and decides to participate in the Orc Tribute (bride) program to further her career goals and reveal a behind-the-scenes look at what being an Orc bride is all about. She doesn't expect to actually start having real feelings and attraction to Torgar. They will have to face with issues that threaten their relationship with one another - trust, lies, and past relationships to get to their HEA. I really liked Torgar and his feelings and treatment of Wendy - I felt he was patient, understanding, and willing to support her. For a while, I didn't overly like Wendy and her duplicitous behaviors, though I did eventually come to see that she had grown and changed in her relationship with Torgar. The hot and steamy action was so very good, and the romantic side of Torgar was lovely!
To be honest with you I didn't like Wendy in the beginning of the book, in fact I found her to be quite self-absorbed and more than a little selfish and I didn't find her sympathetic at all which is unusual as all the other female humans in previous books I have instantly loved and I wondered if I was actually going to be able to get behind her but I'm happy to say that the author did a really great job in evolving Wendy's character through the book and once I had a good look into her past and her motivations it really changed the way I looked at her. Torgar on the other hand won my heart from the moment we met him and I just adored him and I felt so sorry for him the way he was treated and everything he has gone through. I loved the character crafting as well as their development throughout the book and the story was heartwarming and entertaining. I love the curse \blessed Torgar th molten. His name came from his battles in his home dimension. He lonely and just wants someone to love, take care of and have a family with. So he heads to the institute to find a human tribute bride. Wendy (not my favorite) is and investigative reporter. Looks not a fan of reporters she decides the only way to get the story she wants us to pretend to offer herself as an Orc bride st what she needs and leave. What she didn't expect is to find so much more than a story. She finds a male she can trust who treats her better than anyone in her !life ever has. She finds acceptance among the hoard and begins to build friendships. But as always tragedy strikes lies are uncovered and trust must be earned. Read to find out how Wendy and Torgar find their happily ever after! Another great addition to the series 🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖
Wendy is a reporter that uses a lie to get a story about orcs. She joins the tribute group of woman to be chosen as orc brides. Torgar picks Wendy for his human bride. He is the captain of the orcs. It will make for a good story. She tells him she needs to talk and take pictures of orcs to remind her of her old job. He allows it to happen to keep her happy. But then lies breaks them apart. Wendy goes back to the human world. She then suffers from domestic abuse. Her friend and Torgar rescues her. Lots of drama and situations but eventually a HAE. Good story about how lies can build up and destroy trust. But love and trust can be built back with work and patience. . Torpor might be the title of the book but the story is all about Wendy, his human bride. She volunteered to be a tribute bride intending to get a story but ended up falling in love with her orc mate. But how would they have a happily ever when their relationship started with a lie. It wasn't easy for both of them, somehow they, or should I say she, should have to tell the truth somehow and hope that her orc mate will forgive her. Torgar might appear to be fearful, but he is just and wise. And of course, he loves her and she loved him too.
It is a good story, and I get to like the other orcs in the story too. Though the ending was simple, it's enough to send the message that all is well. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wendy decides to get her "big story" so she goes undercover as an orc tribute bride. Torgar was killed in battle, but brought back to life, literally, by his mage. Because of this and some hybrid repairs done to his body, everyone is a somewhat afraid of him. Torgar claims Wendy as his bride, but he finds it hard to trust and when he finds out she's just looking for a story, it makes all the orcs distrustful. This book has really great characters, I loved Torgar, he was well written, interesting, and really compelling. Wendy grew on me. The book has sizzle, steam, drama, action, some twists, and more. My favorite of the series. And since they are all on Kindle Unlimited, the series can be read for free.
I received an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.
Wendy is an investigative journalist trying to write a story about tribute brides and their life with the Horde but no one will talk to her after they are chosen. She decides to be a tribute bride and write her own story but ends up falling for Togar. Togar is lonely and has had it rough since his last battle. No female wants him so he decides to get a human bride through the Orc tributes. From the moment he sees Wendy he falls for her and is determined to make her love him too. Togar The Molten is book six in the Orca Mates series and I am loving this series. From the interesting characters to the amazing world this author has created this is one of my favorite series. Turns out I am a sucker for personal growth and self-awareness. And Wendy is pretty good at these. I liked Torgar and the secondary characters but wasn't to fond of Wendy. I was having a rough time because she was just kind of awful. She's a bit self-centered and seems to forget orc's are sentient beings not just stories for her editor, and lying and using people is bad. But then plot happened and it was really well done and Wendy grew. It took most of the book but she won me over and it was a great journey.

Wendy is a reporter for a local newspaper needs a story her boss wants her to interview a tribute bride to a horde captain not a raider so Wendy gets this crazy idea to offer herself up as a tribute bride to the orcs her friend Linda who deals with the tribute brides thought that Wendy was crazy but Wendy had no choice she needed this story or it might be the end of her job but what Wendy wasn’t expecting was to be chosen by Torgar the Molten and her plans didn’t work out like she planned. Fantastic story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
Pretty sure Torgar and Wendy's story is my favorite of this series now!! This story gave me so the feels. Happiness, sadness, hurt, betrayed, and of course love. Wendy is an investigative reporter and can't seem to find any of the tribute brides who is willing to let her interview them after leaving with the horde. So, desperate, she "volunteers" to be a tribute herself and is taken by Torgar as his bride.
While staying with the horde she starts falling in love with them - especially Torgar. Until she finds out that she's pregnant and its not Torgar's ....
I just loved the character of Torgar, this orc was totally beautiful. And honestly at first i didnt like Wendy and the way she went about decieving the Orcs. But as she grew to love the people there she grew a consience and did the right thing. But sometimes doing the right thing causes alot of pain for all parties. But Torgar the hero of this book he is comes to the rescue once more. I know this sounds rather strange for a review but i dont want any spoilers and it really is a book that you just have to read if you love Orcs.
Torgar the Molten is book six in the series Orc Mates by author Cara Wylde. This one will touch your heart- it’s filled with real life issues, that need forgiveness and healing. It talks about pasts that need to be shared, to be let go. Lots of drama, some suspenseful moments and a couple of action scenarios. The characters in this book feel real or least the issues they are dealing with are real. Makes this book more intriguing and worth adding to your private library. Enjoy!!

This is one heck of a love story. I liked how the author told more about the life of the human bride day to day than other stories I have read. Most books end with them main characters getting together and then end in a marriage. Thus book went a little beyond. Also I love how protective and forgiving Torar is. Wendy was so full of lies and misleading him and his orc hoard, but he still forgave her once she opened up to him. I really got into this book and enjoyed every minute of it. Id only read one or two books in The Orc Mates series so i kinda knew what to expect. Only Torgar is a different orc to the others in thought. Yes he is strong and gruff but hes also quiet and unsure. Hes mainly a loner amongst his people due to events that have happened in his life.
Whereas Wendy is a funny and confident reporter that follows the story of the secretive orcs by enlisting as an orc bride. Not planning on it being a permanent thing. I really liked the dynamic between Torgar and Wendy. They go through so much in this book. I really enjoyed reading this. It was a good read
After being brought back to life by his mage, Torgar is feared by his own people and is terribly lonely. He chooses Wendy as his bride, except he doesn’t know she has no intention of staying. Wendy is an investigative journalist who became a tribute bride to get an exclusive story but ends up catching feelings for Torgar. I think Torgar is my all-time favorite orc. He is caring, thoughtful, sweet and vulnerable. There were times I really wanted to give Wendy a little shake but she redeems herself. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
I really enjoyed Torgar and Wendy's story! Togas is so well written and it makes it such a great read! Wasn’t a huge fan of Wendy and would’ve preferred more Torgar……but that’s just my opinion! I did enjoy reading how Wendy did learn and did grow throughout the book. Torgar’s character is my favourite mix of gruff and grumpy but an absolute sweetie deep down. The story has a few twists and turns that you aren't expecting.

As we say in the south”Wendy was a big ol’ liar.” I mean she lied a lot and I wasn’t sure I liked her character or not even after she apologized. I don't know how her character kept up with all of her lies. I liked Torgar and his storyline was interesting. But this book was not 50/50 as far as his and her version of events. This book is 80% Wendy’s dialog and 20% Torgar’s. This book was definitely ‘The Wendy Show’ and I think Torgar has more to offer if given the chance.
I love the Orc Mates series, and Torgar the Molten is no exception. Cara Wylde has created a rich world where orcs have crossed dimensions due to human error and a sometimes uncomfortable truce has had to be made.
Something unique and enjoyable about this story was Wendy's diary. Our FMC is a journalist who keeps a diary, and we get a really intimate and introspective look at her feelings and experiences as she goes from woman with a mission to woman in love.
