An elderly woman and a busy young professional find themselves recuperating from surgery in the same hospital room, and find their very different worlds converging in an expansion of human spirit. By the author of The Quilt. IP.
A very nice book, but I didn't enjoy it as much as The Quilt. It definitely had some good life lessons and nice character growth. I thought it was a tiny bit predictable. However, it's the kind of book that needs to wrap up nicely, so you would be disappointed if it went any other direction.
I think there was more than one gift given in this story. When our circumstances are not what we planned, God comes in and teaches us things in very unique ways. I very much enjoyed this, and I wish I could learn more about their lives.
A heal caught in escallator causing a broken ankle brings together a widower and father of a young girl with a beautiful, successful business woman who is personally lonely and unhappy with her life. Leslie is admitted to the hospital and is sharing a room with her saviorJohn's mother. During their week of hospitalization both women embark on their own journeys to personal enlightenment. Leslie learns to slow down and listen to God's plan.

I appreciated the heartwarming message in "The Gift." The writing is at times disjointed with an unclear message. But overall, this story shares a message of hope.
It's just a cute, short story of how people meet. Two women end up sharing a hospital room. Both of them have had different lives, and it begins to weave together. It's a cute story.
Quick read, uplifting and light. "But while salvation is given to each and every believer in Christ, a guaranteed gift, there is also the invitation from Christ to let His life in us move us toward being like Him. We are given grace, you see, but we are asked to serve. We are asked to improve, to become better lovers and givers and healers. We are asked to pray without ceasing. But this can only come through facing up to what is inside ourselves. And this step many people absolutely refuse to take. So they remain spiritually crippled, incapable of the growth asked of them."
I love this book and probably would have given it 5 stars if I still was not feeling so moved after reading The Quilt. Unfortunately this was a lovely story but I did not love it as much.
Grace is able to after many years of life find the peace that Christ has promised and she shares this gift with Leslie. It is a lovely story that teaches us to slow down and concentrate on Christ's promise.
An elderly woman, Grace, and a young professional woman, Leslie, both had accidents and found each other as hospital roommates. Grace discovers peace through visions of the cross and shares it with Leslie. Rather predictable.
It was a little slow going at first, but once I got into The Gift, I found it rather intriguing and not easy to put down. I did enjoy the book and would rather the author would have kept going, instead of ending the book where he did.
Short book, read it in a day - in between hair cut appt and martial arts class. Good quick feel good book. Gave me goosebumps. The holy spirit will do that to you. :)
Really liked this book. It had more depth than I thought it would for such a small book. I would recommend it to my office bookclub group and others who enjoy Christian fiction.
