Quinn Thompson is a budding astrophysicist on her way to get a PhD at Harvard. Ethan Ford is her neighbour who, although she doesn’t really know what he does, wears a lot of suits and looks like someone who could give Ryan Gosling a run for his money.
She drinks cheap tequila. He drinks expensive scotch.
She is a hopeless romantic. He is just hopeless.
She loves pumpkin spice. He loves pointing out that there’s no actual pumpkin in it.
They are polar opposites. The only thing they have in common is their mutual dislike for each other.
But when the one man, who might even make Ethan look like a saint, shows up to her Halloween party inviting her out to Las Vegas for an unofficial college reunion, she has no choice but to strike a deal with the bane of her existence a.k.a, Ethan Ford.
What follows is a four day whirlwind of confused feelings, unlimited cocktails and lots of shirtlessness, with Quinn being left to doubt everything she knew…or at least thought she knew about the guy next door.
Tanushka Bhatnagar is an author of Adult romance, full of fluff and spice (and sometimes gore). Her stories all have HEAs with plenty of banter and swoon sprinkled in (along with the occasional murder). Besides reading and writing, Tanushka loves dancing, is obsessed with Marvel, and is currently re-heating the same cup of coffee for the tenth time.
This book was a lighthearted read and I loved Ethan. He was sweet and his interactions with Quinn were awesome. It has all my favorite tropes - 1 bed, enemies to lovers, fake dating. It made me laugh and from the writing, you could tell it was a young author and someone with a love for Marvel. For a debut, I think it’s great. Just falls short of perfection for me in terms of the dialogue between the friends and Quinn as it can get rather childish at times (just felt that there could be more depth to it) and the steamy scenes could use a little more description to really create that romantic atmosphere. A great debut and I cannot wait for new books!
The story, itself, is cute. The writing needs editing and there are a lot of places where it causes issues with the flow and needs to be re-read or adjusted and that's the biggest issue for me. I found myself stumbling over the flow frequently enough that it annoyed me. I think it's a good first book and super cute, but it definitely needs a bit of editing to get the flow right. Then it would be 4 or maybe even 4.5 stars!
3.5 stars! Fun, cute read. FMC was a little annoying, and there wasn’t much character growth. MMC was cute, and it’s had alllll the good tropes! One bed, fake dating, enemies to lovers. Over all good, just not great.
Love this book!! I would recommend everyone to read it! One of the very few books where I didn’t count the number of pages left for a chapter to end - it’s well written, great story and ofc, Ethan <3
STEM FMC: astrophysicist I’m not sure where to start with this one. I think it needed one more round of editing. I had some issues with both the grammar and some of the language and conversations and was left confused at various points. There’s a lot of miscommunication and immaturity on both of their parts that’s frustrating. At some point they are in Vegas and are smashing back drinks when he suddenly rents a car for them and drives out to the desert… when is drinking and driving ever ok?? I get the feeling that maybe he never drank any alcohol, but that was never stated or mentioned or really alluded to anywhere, just a feeling. I would have felt better knowing he wasn’t driving them around drunk though. The first few spicy scenes get very little lead up before p in v happens, and it just felt so aggressive. I don’t know. This wasn’t my favorite. Parts of it reminded me of the love hypothesis where you have a tool trying to steal her research and coerce her into an unwanted sexual relationship and her fake bf defends her honor, and her friend makes her sit on her fake bf’s lap… it’s all very Adam and olive in those moments, but it’s very not Adam and olive outside of that. Her immaturity was a little more than I could handle. 2.5 stars
I thought this book was very cute. Ethan was the sweetest book boyfriend ever and is the definition of looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll. The book does fall short with the writing and is missing some depth and flow. Also the spicy scrams felt kinda rushed to me but the proportion of them in the book was the right amount. Overall good job and I can’t wait to see what else the author comes up with.
I started this while stuck in line for a ride at Disney and got about half way through while waiting and DNF-ed after that. There’s some potential in this but the writing needs a good edit and more development. I’m sure this is a fun quick read for others but it’s just not my cup of tea with the way it’s written.
I liked the book. Each of them had attitudes that I didn't like but still, it was good. Quinn acted like a child sometimes and it pissed me off but I still liked her spunk and Ethan had his moments but overall I loved him, you could see that he really liked her but didn't know how to approach it. When she broke them off, I felt so bad for him, what he did wasn't as bad as she made it out to be
I can't believe this actually happened but I'm SO glad it did! RUN don't walk to this book if you love enemies-to-lovers with sarcastic banter and SPICE ;) And it helps that Ethan Ford will FOREVER be the reason for my high standards in men :P
