Liv Pomeroy’s high hopes and lavish lifestyle come horribly undone when her fiancé runs off with her maid of honor. Swearing off love forever, she goes on a summer escape to Florence, Italy. Agreeing to help her cousin May raise funds for an art restoration project, Liv is astonished to find they share a genetic gift for undoing time. Soon she’s joining a team of time travelers who rescue history from those who would change it. And fighting her attraction to a sexy time traveling colleague, who just might turn out to be working for the wrong side in the American Revolution. A thrilling tale of time travel, romance, and espionage.
Rachel Dacus writes time travel and women's fiction with a supernatural twist. She is the author of seven novels and four poetry collections. Her Timegathering series has been called a "unique and spellbinding twist to the time-traveling adventure, perfect for fans of Susanna Kearsley and Diana Gabaldon." Rachel lives in Northern California with her architect husband and Silky Terrier. She is a member of the Women's Fiction Writers Association.
Rachel spins a very colorful and evocative story. Well worth the read. However, be advised, 1:I think you SHOULD read the previous stories for context. There was a lot of background missing. 2: this is NOT a science fiction story. It is a romance novel with a science fiction backdrop. The science is not well developed, it is consistent, but just doesn’t feel completely solid.
This is the third book I’ve read by Rachel Dacus in her Timegathering Series. I always enjoy the way she magically combines the past, present, and future. I love that the “present” in this book takes place in Florence, Italy and that some of the “past” takes place in California. I was thrilled that the story introduced me to Patience Wright, a Colonial-American sculptor I’d never heard of. What a resourceful and delightfully eccentric woman! I also love how the story addresses the struggle between “preserving” and “fixing” history—a hot topic these days.
Although I haven't read the first two books, I had no difficulty in following this story and soon got to know and like the main characters. Although part of a series, this is a complete story, can be read as a 'stand alone' and does not end in a 'cliff hanger' (Although some of the chapters did have me on the edge of my seat!)
I enjoyed this original slant on time travel, with its various twists and turns and snippets of historical information, as well as hints of a budding romance.
The ending not only had me keen to read the next book but also to read the preceding ones.
