Hace unos quinces años leí los tres primeros volúmenes de la historia de Martha Washington y tenía un buen recuerdo. Ahora de decidido releerlos, aprovechando que también me he hecho con el cuarto, y el resultado ha sido algo decepcionante. Alguna de las ideas originales son interesantes, pero están escasamente desarrolladas y prima la acción sobre la especulación mucho más de lo que recordaba. El cuarto volumen, que reúne las historias sueltas de la protagonista, es particularmente flojo. Una lectura entretenida, pero que deja una frustrante sensación de que podría haber dado mucho más juego con un enfoque más ambicioso.

This is Miller's most ambitious work to combat suppression of the First Amendment, Martha Washington now must fight an evil artificial intelligent trying to control the human minds. It was a little nonsensical when the aliens were introduced but it is his fight for freedom, the free will and the freedom of expression.

The plot is so familiar its boring, and Martha Washington is so different I don't recognize her at all.

While I was re-reading this, I did not remember much of any of it. But as I got to the end, it did coalesce into some kind of semi recognizable memory. Instead of reading it as individual issues as they were published, I’d probably read it all in one sitting and I probably did it late at night as well. In any case, this was typical Miller/Gibbons stuff. Our protagonist has little agency and is just desperately trying to do whatever it takes to stay alive. And then we get this whole subplot of ancient aliens being responsible for the very existence of humans. Okay. This is all very 2001: A Space Odyssey, Chariots of The Gods, and Jack Kirby’s The Eternals Omnibus. And it’s all rather tedious and uninteresting. It’s also very deus ex machina. So, yeah, clearly I am not really any longer a fan of this series. Which is very sad considering how much I enjoyed this character and series when I was younger.
