The virus has arrived. A deadly virus that destroys humanity. A virus that replaces the living with creatures that crave human flesh. As the human race dwindles, an unlikely group of young survivors battle against the odds to stay alive and avoid joining the ranks of the undead.
Follow Cassie as she desperately searches for her brother; Heidi as she tries to cope with the consequences of her actions; and Ginge as she takes on a new role of keeping everyone alive.

I did enjoy this book. I really like a zombie book and this just fitted in fine. The characters are young and are floundering about thinking that they will be rescued. The pace is good enough to keep reading. It's worth a read.
“Haven’t you heard? The only people who survive the apocalypse are the psychos. And usually the ones with a sarcastic sense of humor.”
I love dystopian especially zombie stories so this was a really enjoyable read that wasn’t a long one either. The cover is really aesthetically pleasing and fits with the book really well. The zombie virus in this author’s version of apocalypse was super fast moving so the zombie content starts immediately. The characters were well written, and I loved seeing how they all came together and survive while dealing with one another. I can’t wait to see where this series gets taken and how the characters survive the zombies, other people, and each other.
“Haven’t you heard? The only people who survive the apocalypse are the psychos”
This was a solid 4 🌟 zombie read.
The characters are really relatable and genuine making decisions that are believable and with motive! We all have a stupid character in a zombie story right?
I’m a great fan of Ginge! I’m going to need character art ASAP. To be honest I just need something of the whole gang.
I also love the term rotters, very zombie book has a different name for zombies and rotters is my fave so far!
This book was so suspenseful and it’s so short I wasn’t expecting it at all! I’m so glad I picked this up and I can’t wait to read the next one! 👏🏻
Writing this book was one of the highlights of my year. It's been such a long time coming and I'm so glad to be sharing it with the world. I hope readers love this world even half as much as I do!
I positively enjoy reading apocalyptic books and make is a bit of my speciality, but this was not my cup of tea.
Before I start reviewing, I like to say that this book had a lot of potential and could go places if they tweaked their profession a bit more straight to the point. I can see the ideas were absolutely fantastic and also pretty interesting. That is why it is still getting two stars from me.
Remind that this is my own personal view on this book and absolutely not meant to bash them in.
If the outbreak was written a bit more clear and if the writers had stick to just following one group of people, it would be a lot less chaotic and more plot driven. Often times I had no idea where it was going and was surprised when we followed three groups stuck in a different position. It was too much to tackle in 100 pages. Maybe if they did one group in each of their books, it would've been a lot easier to follow and a bit more interesting. I felt like I got tiny bits of every group, and it was not enough.
Often times I got extremely confused by the writing of the book and the character placement. I had a hard time following the characters and who was saying what. Next to that, a lot of characters just get killed of and I was wondering why I was meeting the character if they were getting killed in the next page. The characters didn't feel realistic and I was confused wether I was following a 12 year old or a 18 year old. I had no attachment to the characters and they fell a bit dull to me. The plot however didn't strike me as original.
The unrealistic set of events was what bothered me the most reading the book. An outbreak is supposed to be happening fast and be broadcasted on every international platform you could think of. There would be warnings like sirens, people shouting and screaming and over all total mayhem. I was surprised that none of this happened in the books and that the characters, all kids, suddenly were alone and didn't know what was happening. It all went pretty silent. People were scared, but there wasn't panic. It happened too fast, out of nowhere, with no to little information about the virus or the governmental influence and how the world acts on this virus. Seen as this was happening either at someone's home or school, warnings should be there. Even if you are inside a school, you can understand what is happening on the outside. Write what could be in real life. Write what consequences certain actions have and make certain choices difficult like it would be in real life. How do you treat someone that has a wound? Search up the details and write it down. Make it rememberable.
Now this is however possible that characters don't know what's going on until later, but in this book it all felt very rushed which made it unrealistic. Take the time to set out the event. Make someone very sick and follow what's happening, but don't rush it. Let the characters actually learn instead of throwing themselves into it. Because realistically, we would sit back and take a moment to endure what's going on before we take action. Think about the human fight, flight and freeze effect which was vaguely described in chapter two, but didn't come back in the book.
The other thing I was really confused about were the zombies. In the first chapter they were fast, quick and smart. In the next they were so slow that they almost couldn't stand upward? I had no idea what they looked like as it was a very fast mention. It didn't stick with me, and I hoped that the zombies would be a little more original.
Having said that all, I hope the writers take time to scroll through their feedback and make their writing a bit more accessible. If they do, I'm sure that their next books will be a lot more easy to read.
A deadly virus has swept across the land. A virus that turns anyone who is bitten by an affected into the undead. It is fast and it is swift and it does not play favorites. This virus will take down anyone who gets in its way.
If you want to survive then you must run, hide, and stay as quiet as possible and above all else, always, always stay alert, scanning the area around you. Never, never even once let your mind rest and come to think you are safe cause you are never, ever safe in a zombie apocalypse.
Apocalypse is told from more than one character's point of view as the virus breaks out and they are trying to make their way to safety. In the beginning, they are running and running just trying to stay alive as they figure out what to do and what is going on. Once they get their bearings they set out to find their friends and a safe place for them all from the zombies.
There is lots of zombie fighting and killing along the way. The action never stops as they hunt for their friends. There was more than one occasion when I really thought they were all done for but these guys are tough characters. Some will be around for the long hall but I fear some may not.
I love zombies and have read quite a few zombie books I never seem to grow tired of them. Each zombie book that I have read just seems to get better and better and let me tell you, Apocalypse has made it to the top of my list of zombie books! The descriptions are so vivid you feel as if you are right there fighting zombies with all the characters. Which of course that, is something you hope never becomes real.
Hayley Anderton makes Apocalypse come alive right on the page. Once I picked up Apocalypse there was no way I could or would lay it down until I had read the last page and even then or now I still want more. I want to know where Hayley, Apocalypse, the characters, and the zombies take us next.
And of course, I highly recommend Apocalypse to all zombie fans! One-click your copy of Apocalypse now only if you are in for a horrifying grand adventure!
4.5/5 This book was a short, fantastic read from a subgenre I'll never get sick of: ZOMBIES!!! (Or in this book's case, they're called rotters, which I think is absolutely brilliant!) I enjoyed the back and forth between three (eventually two) POV's of the different groups and what's all going on while the zombie apocalypse breaks out around them without them even being aware...at first! It's fast, bloody and an overall amazing first story in the series. I adore Cassie and Ginge the most. Hope to see them in the future books!
I have read and watched soooo many zombie stories, as I am yes a freak to anything zombie, but after so many you begin to wonder what the next story can add or change to make itself unique or different and I was a bit apprehensive when I began Apocalypse but from the first page was immediately immersed in the story and invested in the characters because for me to enjoy any book I have to be able to really connect or have some strong feelings for the characters or I'm bored to tears. As I write this even I am sitting here wondering what will become of them.
I feel like Apocalypse did a wonderful job of getting us into the story and introducing us to some of the main persons of interest and as is usually always with series has left us on a cliffhanger and I'm ready to carry on and see what happens next! OMG that ending has me worried and ready to bite my nails!
My only few issues, none of which took anything away from the story, is wondering where did the virus originate and how was technology taken out so suddenly? I mean it felt like we were dropped into an apocalypse already in progress in lieu of one just starting.
*I was given a copy of this story for my honest opinion from the author.
"She lowered the axe slowly and watched her mother’s head roll away. She’d seen enough horror movies to know how that would likely end. But the movie was only just beginning!"
This is an apocalyptic story of hope, bravery, resistance and self-sacrifice narrated from the views of some college friends.
🔖what I loved mostly about this awesome YA is all the very genius ways the authors managed to use for conveying the atmosphere of horror from the beginning to every single battle for survival also choosing those lovely characters perfectly to show how much true friendships and the empathy, at some points with being humorous, can bring great relief to such grivous and terrifying moments of some teenage lives.
💡This first book of a quadrilogy ended with a real cliffhanger and I just can't wait to followe the rest of such fascinating story through the next books.
Is that possible for all of them to stay together once again or just some are not lucky enough to survive❓ If you're curious too, just highly recommend to pick such worthy read and find that out yourself.
I was immediately intrigued from the beginning, the action begins right away and the character interactions are so well written, their friendship and relationships were so believable and realistic.
Each character we meet has a different personality, and like in the usual zombie media, we have smart characters and ones that are more panicked. My favourites were Luke, Eliza and Ginge because I loved their way of thinking and logic.
The novel is full of gory descriptions that were equally gross get awesome, it definitely gave me the same feel from the Netflix show 'All Of Us Are Dead'. It's also filled with suspense and an apocalyptic feel.
The ending leaves at a good point, and I'm pretty intrigued to see where this series goes, though the book is super short and could have definitely been longer, I devoured it!
This debut novel from the new series is just what I needed to get out of the reading slump! This was such a fun light and light read for me and I loved the level of gore that was there because it wasn’t overwhelming. The characters are really likeable and I got attached to many of them so quickly. I can’t wait to start the second book and get my hands on the third one to compete the series but I’m very excited to see what happens in Fallout!
Apocalypse is one of those rare books that grips you from the get go. From the very first page there is foreboding, foreshadowing and a unique sense of dread that keeps you enticed.
This is a fast paced story that doesn’t shy away from the rawness of love and loss and although the book is filled with zombies, blood and gore, it is also filled with lighthearted fun, sarcasm and humour which i for one think is expertly done, showing the true nature of young adults and how their minds would work given a situation that is thrust upon them such as thus, whether that be with a sense of purpose or entitlement, this story does teenage angst perfectly along with a constant sense of worry that each character has and displays in their own unique way.
Although both authors have their own voices which are shown brilliantly within this story, they also manage to blend the two voices together which, with that, brings a coherent and un-jarring read.
For any fan of zombies, horror and all out good fiction, i would truly recommend this story.
I watch a lot of apocalyptic/zombie shows/films with my husband, but I don’t actually read a lot of them. I think that needs to change. Sort of read this with book club, but hadn’t realised it was short so binge read it in a few hours. Oh my god it was so good, I’m so excited that there’s so many other books. It draws you straight into the apocalypse with them, so much so that you question what you would do in the situations they find themselves in. The characters are really relatable and the losses are felt! And that ending… on to book 2!
This is a great book that I read in one sitting, I couldn't put it down! I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of zombies, suspense, thrillers or gore! The authors do not shy away from killing off what you assume will become main characters; it's unpredictable and I can't wait to see where they take us next in the story.
Apocalypse is a fun take on the zombie genre of the same name. The protagonists introduced are a likeable and distinctive bunch, with their personality clashes providing plentiful humour and barbs from the get-go, which quickly darkens as the pressures and horror of their newfound situation takes its toll on them.
A great zombie horror which moves along at a fast pace and never lets up. It is a short book and easy to read. I was totally invested within the first chapter. Already reading the second book and pre ordered the third. The only issue I had was it needed a bit more character development and at times it was too much telling not showing. But the characters themselves were likeable and I'm already rooting for them.
I'm not a huge fan of zombies but this book was a great read! It's well written and the characters are interesting and compelling and endearing. Also, I really love the cover!
Full disclosure-dnf. I got to 35% and realized this wasn’t for me. There’s no real story and the reactions of the characters were completely flat. It’s like -whoops, that guy’s a zombie. Time to kill it -doodley doodley dee. Also, there are too many characters with no stories. Who are they and why should I care if they become zombie chow? Reads like a first draft in a high school creative writing class.
“Haven’t you heard? The only people who survive the apocalypse are the psychos.”
This book is everything I could have ever asked for from my FIRST zombie read! And it was the perfect binge read for me at 3A.M!!
You’ve got strong female leads that you immediately want to be them or be friends with them, relatable characters, imagery that makes you feel apart of the world, fast paced, beautifully written gore!! Oh, and of course flesh eating zombies!!
The names may be different but we all went to school with them! And that’s what makes it stand out for me from just “corny zombies” and an immersive real life experience.
When the apocalypse happens, these are the kinds of people I want to survive it with!
Can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
**Please remember that this was independently published! A couple of spots needed a bit of polish that comes with money for editing. NONE of that takes away from the story!!**
Go get all of @hayley_a_writes books right now!! Absolutely amazing human and wonderful author!!
Apocalypse is a thrilling, fast-paced YA horror with a collection of interesting, lovable characters who are forced to work together to stay alive when a zombie outbreak hits their college. With moments of humour, grief, fear, and gore, it’s sure to keep you hooked from beginning to end. I don’t usually opt for zombie novels (because I am a scaredy cat) but I thoroughly enjoyed this and I’m so excited to delve further into this new world in Fallout, and hopefully reunite with some of my new favourite characters!
I don't normally like horror but I couldn't stop reading this book, even though it made me not want to turn off the lights at night! The characters are really well written and relatable, the authors really get you rooting for them to survive. In between all the existential threats to the characters there's also some really funny and moving moments, but the suspense stays through the whole book. Can't wait for the next in the series!
I love Apocalyptic books and anything Zombie wise and I did quite enjoy the story You see how difficult situations mold and change people when responsibility is thrown up on them It follows a group of college friends trying to escape the out break of a virus and just trying to find each other and survive I think I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't in a book slump
pretty good opening for what is definitely shaping up to be an entertaining decology (yes, i googled what to call a 10 book series😂). we get a decent sense of who everybody is and with the multi pov i cant wait to see what other sides of the story we get. definitely starting book 2 soon
i love me a zombie book so i had to read this one. i enjoyed the banter between the characters. i get confused about the age range sometimes. i know that some of the characters are college students but they seem so much younger.
