I like kayaking and sailing. If you like books about being out on the water with all its frustrations and joys you will like this book. Mostly written in diary format based on letters saved by friends. I met the author's husband briefly on Orcas Island while he was taking his dog for a walk. A true gentleman. 6 Oct 12 update - Finished book. Joyce certainly captures the bittersweetness of coming off an awesome life shaping event back into the hustle and bustle of distractions in the US. I have experianced this myself several times. I too would like to retire to Orcas Island and hope that some time in the next couple of years that I get to know them. Deffinitely a book to read if you are looking at circumnavigating or just traveling in some of the areas they did. Now that I finished it I upgraded it a star. :-)

I just finished this book which I picked up from the author, who's an Orcas Island neighbor. It's an entertaining, but not especially provocative documentary of Joyce & Don Green's round-the world sailing circumnavigation from 1986-98. Lots of stories about the remote ports & people they discovered, not quite so much detail about their actual sailing.
