Two-time Newbery honor book author Murphy presents a concise description of the 1914 Christmas truce between the German and the Allied troops during the first year of WWI. A quick read accompanied by ample illustrations, it describes the futility and senselessness of that particular war, and how it could have been different under different leaders and circumstances. Though written for children, it would be even better for high school history classes.
