I liked The Four Agreements and found it useful, so I thought I'd try this one. It's billed as "guided meditations," and they definitely are not. They're all prayers. To God. Not meditations in the sense that one would normally use that word. I'm not religious (at all!), but I do have a spiritual side, and I was able to reword them in ways that made them useful to me till I got to the last two chapters, which were basically about being wedded to God (or love, but God kept making an appearance), and the author lost me. It just got weird. There's good stuff to be gleaned from this (although nothing much that The Four Agreements didn't cover), but, for me, it took a lot of effort to look past the overtly religious aspect of the "inspiration."

The biggest fear we have is not the fear of dying, but the fear to be alive, to be ourselves, to say what we feel, to ask for what we want, to say yes when we want to say yes, and no when we want to say no.

No. Just no. I STRONGLY disliked this book. The only reason I read it was because it was a freebie at the YMCA...and now I know why! The book is (I believe) specifically written for people who are utterly pissed at life. Through the veil of spirituality it basically preaches ideas like, "The Golden Rule," loving yourself, and caring for your surroundings...all ideas you should practice daily if you are a decent human, which, lets face it, if you actively seek to better yourself through self help books, you are! Even more frustrating is it does not recommend how, rather just tells you to practice these ideas (i.e. unconditionally forgive people you have not forgiven) suggesting this can be achieved through meditation (which, not to mention, generally takes years of practice to master). Let me save you the (albeit short) read with one sentence that sums it all up...don't be a dick.

Great book. Makes you do some self reflection and think of things in a different lense. Love the prayers in the book. Highly recommend the book. I would always read it before bed to give my subconscious something really positive.

one simple thing about the books by Ruiz is the fact that he applies a strong sense of spirituality, with no religion. this is above all else a Book of Prayers, way to communicate with God in the deepest sense. this book is often referred to as a companion book rightly so because if you haven't read The Four Agreements, many of the principals in this book won't make any sense to you. I found this book okay, I believe once you get a hold of what The Four Agreements are you choose to live by their principal or not. it's standing your exposure to Ruez without believing in the agreements is the most sincere waste of your time. Ruiz continues to help the reader understand their spiritual life versus their way in the world by referring to the world as their story, and their spiritual life as their dream. I consider any book in the series truly beneficial for someone who has no place to spiritually start from. I don't believe if I hadn't the background that I do this book would not be enough to hold me together spiritually. these are okay principles but there is very little in here to help you understand what to do when you're hurting, you feel like you're not living your purpose and some of the bigger issues addressed by beliefs like Christianity, Buddhism and so on. if you are starting from the spiritual Ground Zero begin with the book by Ruiz onThe Four Agreements but I strongly recommend accelerating your life to a deeper area of study in a major faith.

I will say, in looking it up on Goodreads I am quite surprised to see it say guided meditations. Meditation topics, sure, but..well, I guess because guided meditations are hard to follow in written format. Close your eyes...yes, then open them again to read the next prompt, I don't stay meditative. But the topic prompts were useful, had me thinking of things in renewed ways, and places I still have some work to do that I wasn't aware of. I love the overall concept of living in the mental space this would mean and would love to be more like that. Sounds very familiar to a lot of stuff a friend tells me about Course in Miracles but perhaps more accessible. The idea of justice being a stance of greater forgiveness, rather than punishment, definitely feels novel and needed in this society.

I can definitely see why people don't like this one as much as Four Agreements, and I probably won't recommend it as much, but it was definitely a useful read for me to staying connected to these topics/mentality and how to live it more consistently.

Some things I agreed with wholeheartedly & other things I didn’t. Some things said resonated with me heavily & other things didn’t. I annotated certain parts of this book & then other parts made me roll my eyes. I’m sure the authors intentions wasn’t meant to be super pushy when it comes to connecting with God | the universe | the divine | the most high (however you personally acknowledge) but in my opinion , it was giving pushy in certain areas. As a spiritualist myself , I’m very mindful with how I “spread the word” because pushing tends to make people flee. Very demure. This was a very informative read but it just wasn’t for me.

I wouldn’t tell others not to read it because it may be for you. If you decide to give it a go & resonates with you , that’s great ! Alignment is always a beautiful thing on one’s spiritual journey 💙

I did not enjoy this as much as other Toltec Wisdom books, which are far less Christian in tone. This book talks about a kind of general spirituality God, and never talks about Jesus, but the framework is strongly influenced by Christian ideas, with a lot of talk about faith and describing overtly Christian ideas. As someone who walked away from Christianity, it was glaringly obvious, and made this hard to get through, despite it being rather brief. There are some useful ideas about letting go of resentments as an act of kindness to yourself, but at least for me, this book felt shallower and less relevant than previous books from this series that I have read, and I might choose to just enjoy the books I have enjoyed and not continue to pick up more of these.

this is the second book i’ve read by Don Miguel Ruiz, and i didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as i did the first (The Four Agreements). while there were certainly lines and moments in his writing that merited annotation, i felt like the main points Ruiz ended up arriving at could have been outlined in just a few pages rather than 123. he does a nice job at explaining concepts of spirituality without a lot of jargon, so i think his books are a nice place to start for anyone looking to dive into their spirituality. however, i would personally not recommend this book as a whole. would recommend the four agreements over this though!

A book of healing and connection through prayer and meditation

I loved the fact that the book made you introspect on where you are and what needs to be done, to assist in your growth and development. The prayers at the end of the chapters were pretty helpful when it was time to enter into a meditative state. This assisted in building a better connection with Divinity.
I would recommend this book to anyone who feels lost, and wants to connect or re-connect with the Divine. Despite what you may have been through, it gives you the tools needed to assist in your healing.
It will remind you why you should continue to love despite the actions of the offender/oppressor.

The Circle of Fire is a book written with the intention of reassurance and self love.

I enjoyed reading this book. It included prayers, thoughts about love and reintroducing love back into the world. This is the type of book I’d recommend to people who are seeking guidance or people who are going through a troubled time. This book offers many prayers at the end of each chapter and revolves love around the creator of God. It’s a reminder of the connection we have to spirit.

The author writes personal experiences and rhetorical questions one would find helpful in time of need. Anyone can read this book it was a light and easy read.

"You were created to perceive the beauty of creation and to live your life in love."

Often, when I am reading something by Don Miguel Ruiz, I come across a passage that seems to be straight out of my inner thoughts, as if I have always intuitively known it to be true but did not have the words or courage to express.

Other of his teachings are a little strange and uncomfortable to think about. That is because they directly challenge what you tell yourself to be true, and I think that self-reflection is a noble exercise.

Don Miguel Ruiz provides a framework for you to change your life, but it will require rereading, recitation, and an open heart and mind.

Another well-written book by Miguel! It was a practical book that instructs individuals how to live in their circle of fire and to walk with the divine spirit or creator of all things. This book asks us to walk in matrimony with our maker, so we can envision the relationship as a daily encounter with God. It shifts one's perspective from external pleasure to pleasing the spirit on the inside of us. I highly recommend this read; it can be read in a day.

This is the third book by Don Miguel Ruiz that I have read. Every single time, he is aware of exactly which emotions to appeal to. He discusses every aspect of everyday life and how each of us may improve on ourselves through personal effort. He makes reference to the relationship with our creator (God) as a means of improving oneself. Although, I am not a religious person, I take this advice with a grain of salt. I have gained a greater appreciation for life's little things, which we frequently take for granted.

This book is a warm collection of prayers, gently nudging the reader towards the profound practice of gratitude and self-love. I particularly enjoyed the prayer of forgiveness; the revelation that forgiveness is a manifestation of self-love was an eye-opener for me. Overall, Ruiz's poignant reminders underscore that our outlook moulds our life, emphasising the transformative power of positive energy in attracting a desired outcome.

Thank you for the opportunity to imagine what could be if I shift my awareness and accept my divinity.

Prayer book. That simple. It’s not like his other books where you get a deeper sense of guidance and “wisdom”. This book is literal prayers, and guided questions to help you dive deeper into “the meaning of life”. It was a great way to guide my already established understanding of my faith, but I can see this being a little misguiding or even confusing to others with the marriage to God, and “how beautiful she is” analogy. Took me a minute to rephrase and desigfer for it to make sense to me. Short book. Full of solid reflection prompts.

It’s worth a read at least once. For those who are lost, confused and wants to focus more on the self. Helps you to reflect on the self and find your center. It’s more prayer than meditation, but you can use the prayers to lead you into meditation. I read this, but I think it may be more beneficial if you listen to it. There are times where you’re told to close your eyes and imagine, which will be easier to do when listening.

I gave it five stars because I didn’t feel right giving a book anything less, a book that enforces reconnection with self and The Creator. I appreciated the prompts and the prayers. I appreciated the reminder that all things weee created by The Created and should be loved like so. I appreciated being reminded, that I am one of those things and that I should love myself as if I were created by The Creator.

I was a little disappointed in the description of the book using “inspiration and guided meditations for living” on the cover. Inspiration, yes, a lot of that. Guided meditations I would say were there, but in the sense of while you’re reading a chapter, you’re instructed to close your eyes. But you quickly open them to continue reading. The guided meditations should have been at the end of the chapter to make them effective. Overall, it was inspiring.

Incredible book that will change your life , unlike other reviews who trample on the use of the word God , I feel the author uses God as a representation of what you believe created it all.

Not everyone gets it , which is ok , you don't have to , but when you feel what the author is saying it's something amazing ,

Enjoy

No other author has changed my actions and thought patterns more than don Miguel Ruiz. I enjoyed “The Circle of Fire,” but felt it was essentially a summary of his other books. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I have always been fascinated with how to be a less reactive person who has recovered awareness moment by moment. don Miguel Ruiz has helped me learn so much about this journey.

Today is the eternal NOW.

I liked this book but its not as good as The Four Agreements. The last prayer about marrying God is weird. That is a Catholic concept I wonder if that's where he got it. He could have worded it differently. Anyway I finished the book I'm proud of myself. Thanks five below for selling it.

I picked this book up at Five below and I am so glad I did! Though a lot of the information is similar to what I have been already learning and reading in other books like this one, I loved a fresh take on everything the author had to say. The circle of fire is yet another book that I will keep on my shelves to return to occasionally, another tool in my arsenal of self-growth and self-awakening.
