Salem, Massachusetts, B&B owner Charlene Morris will need the luck of the Irish—and the help of a ghost—to unveil a hooded killer . . .
Charlene has hired a van to ferry her B&B guests to an all-you-can-eat corned beef and cabbage dinner hosted by Salem’s Irish community at the Ancient Order of Hibernians club—but she should have booked a hearse. It’s never a good sign when the family black sheep drunkenly crashes a party by punching the guy dressed as a leprechaun. But things go from troublesome to fatal when Charlene stumbles upon a second brawl in an upper room—and this fight Connor Gallagher loses, his anonymous assailant rushing past Charlene, hidden by a hoodie.
Now Detective Sam Holden has another homicide on his hands, with Charlene as the only eyewitness. Even if she can’t give the police sketch artist much to go on, Charlene is determined to ID the murderer, with the help of Dr. Jack Strathmore, the charming ghost who haunts her B&B. The answer lies in the motive, and to uncover that sleuth and spook will need to shine a light on Connor’s shady past—before the killer pulls another Irish goodbye . . .

This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the 6st book in the Salem B&B series. I have read most of the other books in this series before picking up this book. I love books with ghosts, and this book has one Ghost character in this book. I really love the characters in this book, and the mystery was really well done. This book did keep me guessing. The beginning of this book I found to be slow to get going, and that did drive me crazy until the book picked up. I wish Jack (the ghost character) worked a little more in the beginning because we mostly got his character near the end. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington) or author (Traci Wilton) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold by Traci Wilton is the sixth book in the paranormal cozy A Salem B&B Mystery series. Each book in the series holds it’s own mystery that is fully solved so all books can be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so. There will be some character development that carries over book to book though for those that follow the series from the beginning.
The first book of the series introduced readers to Charlene Morris who after losing her husband had needed a fresh start in new surroundings so she decided to move from Chicago to New England. Charlene found a wonderful historic mansion in Salem and thought starting her own bed and breakfast in the touristy town would be the change she needed. What Charlene didn’t expect was to have her new B&B come with it’s own resident ghost.
Charlene’s first experience trying to help solve a murder came when she found that her resident ghost, Jack, had been murdered and needed help finding his killer. Now Charlene is faced with yet another murder to be solved when Charlene had been hoping for a great night of festivities with her B&B guests at the dinner hosted by Salem’s Irish community at the Ancient Order of Hibernians club to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Instead of a great night Charlene ends up witnessing a murderer running away from the scene of the crime so with the help of her resident ghost Charlene vows to track down another murderer before they can strike again.
I have been following the A Salem B&B Mystery series since the very beginning and have gotten to know the characters and setting quite well at this point. Being a fan of crossing genres in my reading I was drawn to this from the start and I have really enjoyed the supernatural touch to this cozy series with their being a ghost as part of the story and helping with investigations. Never really thought of St. Patrick’s in Salem as it’s more known for the witchy side but this was a fun twist to enjoy while solving another nice mystery. As always looking forward to continuing this series in the future.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Reading the 6th installment of the cozy Mrs. Morris series was like a welcome home party! I have greatly enjoyed this series over the last couple of years and have read every single one so far and hoping there will be more coming….
It was so nice to reunite with all the old characters. The ghost Jack was extremely entertaining and funny in this story. I still cannot get over how jealous and protective he is over Charlene all the time! I love how Charlene’s life has come together in Salem and how she has created her own little unique family. Character development continues to prosper in the series which is rewarding. The new character Sheffer was certainly intriguing and I loved his mysterious entrance into the series.
The mystery itself was a spiral! It was very well thought out and developed. I had no leads at any point because it was so scattered with so many unknown facts. It was so fun to finally reach the ending. I absolutely loved the St. Patrick’s Day theme. That’s one thing I’ve really adored so far about all the books—the supernaturally-themed settings. It is Salem of course though. I certainly look forward to more of this series. It will be an immediate preorder!
My rating does not reflect the one I would like to give as there is no three-and-a-half star to pick from, but three stars work. I have had ups and downs with the entire “A Salem B&B Mystery” series, and the sixth book, Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold is no exception. The story has good and bad in equal measures. It also has an Irish holiday, a leprechaun, a mysterious guest at the B&B, and murder. In a nutshell, it has everything a reader might want in a cozy. Yet, I still have some issues with this book.
Charlene is a gracious hostess, Minnie is wonderful as always, and Avery and Sam add emotion to the plot. Taking guests to an Irish holiday celebration in town at a very Irish pub delights Charlene’s visitors. The leprechaun gives children and adults ideas of riches unheard of and nightmares, but the party crasher, Connor, evokes tension and trepidation in the party-goers, and for good reason. After the party breaks up, Charlene returns to the pub to retrieve a forgotten coat for one of her guests, only to find Connor in an argument with a hooded figure; then the lights go out, but she can still see good enough to watch Connor fall to the floor, and the unknown figure shove past her. The victim doesn’t have any injuries that can be seen but dies shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Of course, Charlene can’t stay out of the investigation, nor can her resident ghost, Jack. Before long, they are knee-deep in searching for answers and find only suspects and more questions. Several suspects are very likable in this story; not all of them are Irish, and one we hope will be back in another book. There are a few twists, but for the most part, this is a straight-up murder with little need to search far for likely culprits. Automatically, the leprechaun and the victim's family members are the prime suspects. Motives can be found in the past but don’t scream at the reader.
Even though Charlene and Jack, with a bit of help from Sam, track down the killer. I felt there was too much Irish myth in this book, mainly in the family and drinking area. Not all people who are of Irish decent are related, drink heavily, or run pubs. I did not feel the killer played a big enough part in Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold the killer was almost non-existent and not believable. The finale was where nearly all the action came into the book and gave it the spark it was missing. I still do not like the way Sam is treated in this series, and I feel it is well past the time when Jack should move on and Charlene should find a best friend that is alive. However, I love the ending of this story and hope more surprises are yet to come.
“Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold" the 6th instalment in the Salem B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton. This is my favourite one so far, I just loved it!
What can I say, so much intrigue this go around and all centered around St. Patrick’s Day. I love visiting Salem and Charlene’s B&B with its resident ghost Jack and her B&B family. The characters are becoming like family and I’m super happy that what I dreamed would happen with Charlene and Avery is coming to fruition. I love all the characters Charlene, Jack, Minnie, Sam and Avery and now I find myself adding her mum and dad to the mix.
The mystery was interesting, well plotted, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing till the very end. There was sub mysteries to figure out as well, especially surrounding her guest Shaffer. I’m hoping he pops up again in future stories. I definitely was surprised by the ending and can’t wait for book 7 to see what happens next!!!
I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my third in the series although it is the sixth instalment and in this story, Salem's Irish community is hosting the annual St. Patrick’s Day event. There is to be a party including a dinner of corned beef, potatoes and cabbage at the local club for Charlene Morris's B&B guests. There is a mix-up with the tables and Charlene's entourage ends up sharing a table with Aiden Best and his mum, Shannon. Protagonist Charlene is a terrific amateur sleuth and gets involved when a relative of Aiden and Shannon, Connor Gallagher shows up, and then acts up in a drunken state. Charlene later returns to an upstairs room to collect a forgotten tweed coat, overhears a heated exchange and stumbles across Connor in the dark, who's not moving.
Set in Massachusetts, Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold was well-crafted, swiftly paced, witty and thoroughly entertaining. Charlene is a widow who bought an old mansion she called "Charlene's" and she enjoys the company of Jack Strathmore, the progressive ghost of the former homeowner. The mystery was very engaging and I was kept guessing by the killer concealment in this lively yarn of surprises. There's a good subplot to delight the reader as well. I can’t wait to visit Charlene's in Salem again and see the gang - Silva the cat, Minnie the cook and housekeeper, Jack, Avery et al. Very highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
Well-written and well-paced mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. I loved the addition of the Irish community in this story as well as the continuing story of her employees and their lives. Every time I read one of these stories, I feel like I am visiting with friends. My only issue is that Jack is starting to feel a little creepy. I love paranormal stories but he seems to be overstaying his welcome. There's nowhere for his storyline to go; his murder has been solved so he's just hanging out ruining her chances of a relationship.
I received a copy from #NetGalley for an honest review.
Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold by Traci Wilton is a great cozy mystery that is the sixth book in the wonderful Salem B&B mystery series. I just love this series.
This is such a cute, fun, entertaining, and addictive series. I love the balance between the paranormal elements, the cozy mystery setting, and the murder/mystery plots. And this book joins the others in excellent reading.
I am always a shoe-in for cozy mysteries that also incorporate holidays or seasons within the plot, so of course this book (and this series overall) are right up my alley. One of my favorite locations in general is Salem, Massachusetts so this checks every box for me.
I was pulled in from the very beginning and Ms. Wilton paced the narrative just right that it kept me engaged and wanting to drop everything to be able to continue reading…
Charlene, Jack, Avery, Sam, Minnie, and the full character cast are perfectly placed with new characters sprinkled throughout, but not too many to overwhelm the reader.
This was such a fun St. Patrick’s Day themed cozy mystery that really adds to this gem of a series, and I hope this series never ends.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Kensington Publishing for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 8/23/22.
What girl's lucky enough to have two guys interested in her...except in Charlene's case, one was a handsome ghost she could only be friends with. The other was a little more interested in her than she was in having a relationship right now. Jealous ghosts can be such a pain, lol! But Jack's really an awesome ghost and he's come so far from where he was in the first couple books. He's a huge help when Charlene's investigating (and not supposed to be) since he can look things up online for her.
I don't think this one's main theme was quite as interesting to me as the previous books. There was sure a lot of family drama going on and it would've been a little extra hard to guess the killer this time. The showdown was pretty tense with Charlene having sleuthed with an unlikely sidekick.
Avery's side story's always been really interesting to me, and she's definitely come a very long way from when she first started working for the B&B. Charlene gave her some good news at the end, and Char's parents even pitched in a little to help Avery as well. They probably look at her as the granddaughter they never had. Their news at the end should prove pretty interesting! I'm definitely eager to see what unfolds in the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold is Book 6 in the Fantastic B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton. I absolutely LOVE this series and I dare to say this is my favorite book in the series.
Charlene Morris moved from Chicago when her husband passed away and moved to Salem, Mass and opened a B&B. She would have no way of knowing that the Inn had another guest, or should I say ghost, who is the previous owner of the Inn, Dr. Jack Strathmore. He is still there because of his murder. Charlene and Jack's relationship is a fun one .
I really love Siliva, Charlene's cat who can also see Jack.
In this story, its St. Patrick's Day and that is such a fun holiday for a setting in this mystery. Charlene has gotten a table for her guests to have a yummy corned beef dinner.
Next thing you know, she's involved in a new mystery.
I love this series. It is well written with great characters!
Salem B&B owner, Charlene Morris, prides herself on how successfully her business has taken off as well the level of care she provides for her guests. Her guests, nor employees, know about the handsome ghost residing there and providing support for her investigations. As this is the sixth in the series, you would get more enjoyment from having read some previous books, but it is definitely not necessary. Taking her guests to a St Patrick's dinner event, Charlene sees an attack and becomes enmeshed in attempting to figure out the arrack worse. My only quibble was keeping straight all the new Irish characters and their relationships to one another. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
In the sixth book of the series, Charlene, our lovely B & B owner, as well as, her guests, are attending one of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. She takes pride in offering her guests a unique experience when they stay. The guests are all animated as they attend an Irish party at a local AOH (The Ancient Order of Hibernians) hall that provided a full dinner of corned beef and cabbage and a truly Irish experience including green beer and a leprechaun! Unfortunately, there was a mishap in the reservations and rather all at one table, they were split up into different seating arrangements. Determined to make the best of it, Charlene sat with the host and her son, getting to know them and their heritage. Mason, her young six-year-old guest was excited to meet a true leprechaun. and all was going well until the party was crashed by a loud and obnoxious family member, Connor, who was not welcomed at the event. Although Connor’s appearance put a damper on the festivities, the evening ended well until one of Charlene’s guests forgot her coat. As Charlene heads upstairs to retrieve it, she hears an argument, a thud, and someone rushes past her. Turning on the lights she finds an injured Connor on the floor. Despite the fact that Connor was semi-conscious, he later passed away in the hospital. Will Charlene be able to find the clues, in time to keep her new friends from going to jail for murder or will her luck run out?
This is a favorite series of mine. The resident Ghost, Jack, is always helpful to Charlene, albeit, he is jealous of the homicide detective Sam, who is sweet on her. I enjoy Jack, his determination to help Charlene with the investigation, even though he is confined to the house, he has learned to use the internet to help find clues and employs his medical knowledge to the cases. Sam is also quite interesting, although a bit mysterious. Charlene’s guests are a fun group expect for one. Sheffer LaCroix. Sheffer won’t share any personal information with Charlene, or the others, and she finds him frustrating and downright annoying at times.
I would love and opportunity to stay at a bed and breakfast like Charlene’s. I think Salem, MA is a place I would enjoy with all its history. Charlene herself has overcome several obstacles over the years and is a strong protagonist with an attention to details. Her housekeeper Millie is talented and adds to the humor of the story, as well as her part-time employee Avery, that has become like a daughter to Charlene. I highly recommend this series. The dynamic duo of Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton have worked their magic once again.
I requested and received an advanced copy through Kensington publications and Netgalley.
Let me start with this is not a stand alone read. This is book 6. Start with 1.
I know I'm in the minority with a 1 star review. I would have DNFd if it wasn't a netgalley read. I like cozy paranormal. I liked that it was placed in Salem at a BnB. And I liked that the protagonist is near my age. That was pretty much the end of the likes and it was all before I started reading. This is the first in the series that I read. I rarely start a cozy series with the very 1st book. And typical do not struggle. This was a struggle. I did not connect with any character. There were way too many characters to keep track of. And the protagonist gave me whiplash with her changing thought and opinions. She started out with making it sound like 43 is too old. Then later she said she is too young to have gray hair. And Sam, the cop. I still can't tell if she likes him or not. One minute she says how good looking he is and praises him. Then she complains he basically uses her to get info. And he comes off as a jerk. Shows no respect towards her. General concern but not respect. And the ghost that haunts the B&B was interesting. But her interactions & talk of how she felt about him came off creepy. Not like the paranormal romance in The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. I ended up with so many more question on why she acts & reacts the way that she does. I hoped the ending would help save the story. No. She runs off with the person that she hasn't liked or trusted the whole book. And who suddenly has his own personality whiplash once he goes off with her to find the murderer that came out of left field. I was excited to receive this eARC from netgalley. And I'm sorry to give this such a bad review. I wish I could say it just wasn't the right time for me to read it or I should have read the previous books. But I honestly don't believe that would have helped.
Charlene and her guests have attended a St. Patrick's Day dinner at the local Ancient Order of the Hibernians Club. When Charlene returns to the building to retrieve a coat left behind, she gets knocked aside by a fleeing assailant, who has just attacked and killed one of the dinner guests. Her resident ghost Jack is on hand to help her investigation, but I, personally, think it's time for him to move on. He seems to be holding Charlene back from possibly finding romance with a living man. Perhaps Detective Sam, with whom there is a lot of chemistry-? Even though this is the sixth in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold is the 6th book in the Salem B&B series. i have read all the other books in this series, and it just continues to get better and better. This book kept me guessing with the different twists and turns. I loved the turn of events concerning Charlene and Avery. I certainly would recommend this to everyone that loves cozy mysteries.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Charlene Morris left Chicago and her old life behind when her husband was unexpectedly killed, and moved to Salem, Massachusetts to open a B&B. Little did she know that it was haunted by the previous owner, Dr. Jack Strathmore, who is tied to the property due to his murder. But while Charlene and Jack have learned to live together as a team, she is the only one who can see and hear him -- besides her cat, Silva.
Currently she has a house full of guests who are ready to get their St. Patrick's Day dinner at the local pub, courtesy of Charlene. When they arrive, the pub is full, but they manage to have a good time. That is, until Connor Gallagher shows up, drunk and ready to fight. When the hostess, his cousin, manages to calm him down, everything goes back to normal. But after Charlene returns to the hall to retrieve something a guest left behind, she's in the dark -- and has stumbled upon a fight that turns out to fatally wound Connor. His family isn't talking, but Charlene knows when something is suspicious. And his family certainly is. With a mysterious guest that also isn't talking, Charlene calls on Jack for help in finding out what's going on. And what's going on could get her killed...
This is the sixth book in the series and I have read them all. Rather, I should say that I have devoured them all, for they are so delicious to read. I absolutely love Jack and wish the heavens would give him a second chance on earth somehow so he could really be with Charlene (hey, it's fantasy, so why not?) but that's a book for another time.
In this one, Charlene has her hands full with a houseful of guests, and one mysterious man who seems to show up everywhere Charlene goes, and disappears just as quickly. But spying on her guests is out of the question, so she tries to figure out other ways to get him to talk. To top things off, her parents decide to visit on a whim, and her mother is acting strangely...very strangely, which has Charlene wondering what's going on.
When the problems escalate in the Gallagher and O'Brien families, Charlene is pulled into the middle. Watching her question people -- not intrusively -- is the heart of the book, that and Charlene's own heart, which is big enough to allow others into it. I love the interactions between Charlene and Jack, and the way they work together to solve the murders they encounter. They're like Mr. and Mrs. North by Frances and Richard Lockridge.
When we get closer to the end we discover why everything has been happening the way it has, and of course, who the murderer is. A complete surprise, and an outstanding find by Charlene. When she asks for help in locating the killer, it comes from an unlikely -- but willing -- source, and the ending is done perfectly. I can only hope that this series goes on a lot longer, as I love getting the glimpses into Charlene's life and the descriptions of Salem. Never having been there, with each book it brings me closer to wanting to make a trip. I look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.
I received an advance copy from the publisher and NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.
I just love visiting Charlene's Bed and Breakfast and seeing the great cast of characters again. Minnie and Will are great at taking care of the B & B and Minnie is an awesome cook and housekeeper. I like Avery too. Charlene steals the show with her investigating skills and Jack looming behind the scenes with his computer skills. Jack is a Ghost who can't leave the B & B and Charlene does not want him scaring the guests so the only person that knows he exists is Charlene and the cat Silva.
I think of all the books that I have read about Charlene and the B & B I would have to say that this one is my favorite. I also love Sam. He knows that Charlene just can't help herself when it comes to investigations so he tries to look out for her as much as he can. Even though he confesses that he will have to marry Minnie because of her awesome cooking.
Charlene Morris is the sole proprietor of her beautiful bed and breakfast located in Salem, Massachusetts. She has a knack for solving mysteries and she always enlists the help of her ghostly friend Jack. I like the characters in this series and I always look forward to reading another book by Traci Wilton. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book. #MrsMorrisandthePotofGold #NetGalley.
This series and its characters become increasingly more endearing with each book. I've come to see them as an extension of my own family, and this addition revolves around family, who you consider family, and what you would do to protect them. It's a fun read any time of year, with a well thought out web of secrets, lies, and rumor. I can't suggest this series enough. One of my absolute favorites!
Enjoyed every bit of the story, and trying to find the hints to solve the mystery was a real treat. Love the dynamic of the main characters and the cozy atmosphere created by the author. Love this series.

Charlene Morris and Dr. Jack Strathmore are the perfect detecting pair, too bad Jack is a ghost! The Salem B&B mysteries are engaging, entertaining and not to be missed! Taking place around St. Patrick's Day, Charlene Morris's B&B is full of guests waiting to be taken to a corned beef and cabbage meal at a pub in Salem's Irish community. Unfortunately, a murder occurs at the pub and Charlene and one of her guests witness the suspected murderer fleeing the pub. There's something fishy going on with the victim's family, and one of her guests is acting very suspicious. Of course Charlene, with Jack's help, sets out to uncover the secrets and solve the crime.
This is a great series - the characters and their stories continue to develop throughout each book. In addition to routing for Charlene and Jack, you find yourself hoping for a happy ending for Avery, wondering what's going on with Charlene's mom & dad and what in the world will become of Charlene's relationship with Sam, if anything! The relationships between the characters are wonderful and really make for a cohesive story.
The book keeps moving and keeps you guessing until the end. There are some surprises with the characters - definitely some aha! moments, and yes, some frustration as you wish there could be 'something' more between Charlotte and Jack. The book has humor, romance, an intriguing murder to solve, holiday flair, and some surprises at the end that will leave you anticipating book 7.
I very much look forward to reading many more of Charlene's and Jack's 'cases.'
Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton keep giving us more and more of their Salem B&B Series, and I couldn't be anymore happier. Charlene Morris has become so dear to my heart. Her keen ability to pull information out of people always helps her find the culprit. With her live in ghost, Jack Strathmore, Charlene gets to the bottom of things. Since Jack can't leave the estate, he is handy doing research on the computer. He is always there for Charlene, and makes a great sounding board. Our favorite characters are back. Minnie, Avery, Sam, and Silva the cat makes the foundation to the books even more solid. Charlene finds not one, but two murders that need to be solved amongst a family that has secrets upon secrets. One that happens in broad daylight at a funeral! If you haven't read this series yet, you are missing out. This is one series that always keeps you guessing, and gives you a few surprises along the way.
Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold by Traci Wilton Another great book in the Mrs. Morris series!! I love the premise of a B&B in Salem, a city rich with history and tales of ghostly things. Will the luck of the Irish help Charlene (and Jack – her resident ghost and confidant) to unravel the killing at the local corn beef and cabbage dinner? Will Charlene allow Sam (a local police detective) to do his job without her “help”? Each novel has a new list of characters staying at the B&B which allows for great side stories, while the usual list of main characters (Charlene, Jack, Sam, Avery and Minnie) grace each book. This was a great cozy mystery. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Mrs. Morris series.
Widowed Chicagoan Charlene Morris now owns a lovely bed-and-brealfast om Salem, MA. Fortunately, Charlene is the only one who knows it's occupied by a ghost, the former owner, whom she now considers her best friend, although she's pursued by skeptical detective Sam. She takes her guest to the Ancient Order of Hibernians' St. Patrick's Day party, and finds herself involved with the local Irish community when she finds the body of a returned black sheep. When she goes to the funeral, she sees her most mysterious guest in the background, and sees, too, the reclusive twin brother of her new friend Shannon killed at his cousin's graveside. Too many supernatural elements for me.
Charlene Morris runs a bread & breakfast in Salem, MA. She also has a resident ghost with whom she has a close relationship. It’s St Patrick’s Day and Charlene takes her guests to a local Irish dinner. Unfortunately, on the way out that evening Charlene finds one of the attendees murdered. The route to finding the murderer is tough and dangerous. I enjoyed this book. The B&B is wonderful, I wish I could visit. The characters are wonderful. I recommend reading.
This is such a fun series. Charlene is excited for St Patrick’s Day and entertaining guests. She is also excited to spend time with both detective Sam and ghost Jack. Of course it wouldn’t be a great tale without a body or two thrown in the mix. I particularly like how she interacts both with her guests, which include her parents this time, and her coworkers, particularly Avery. The subplot with Avery was icing on the cake. With the help of ghost Jack, Charlene looks for answers surrounding some gold and an Irish family. Enjoyable as always.
Charlene owns a B and B in Salem, Massachusetts. She and her guests have a night out planned at the local Irish Club for corned beef and cabbage to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Unfortunately, things don't go well when the family drunken black sheep decided to crash the party and punches out the guy dressed as a leprechaun. Charlene stumbles upon another brawl later in an upper room and finds the drunk guy, Conner Gallagher, dead. Detective Sam Holden has another homicide on his hands and Charlene is the only witness. But all she saw was a guy in a hoodie rushing past her. Charlene is determined to solve this case involving family troubles and politics that she is trying to sort out. Luckily she has the help of her resident ghost, Dr Jack Strathmore, who haunts her B and B. Charming and complex cozy.
Charlene went to some effort to create a fun St Patrick's Day for guests at her B&B but an aggressive interloper at the party put a damper on things. And then, Charlene finds that same man-Connor Gallagher- murdered. Good grief. She also saw the person who might have murdered him, but she can't finger the villain because the villain was wearing a hoodie. Of course, she's got to investigate, whether her love interest Sam the detective approves or not. Luckily, she's got Jack, the ghost who lives in her B&B and a group of loyal friends and employees to help. It's a classic cozy with a paranormal twist. If you haven't read the series, know that Jack never gets too woo hoo and that this will be fine as a standalone. I like the series because it's very tongue in cheek in spots and often quite funny. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Looking forward to the next one.
