Chiara Corelli Mystery #4

Legacy in the Blood

Rate this book
NYPD Detectives Chiara Corelli and P.J. Parker are assigned what should be a straight-forward murder investigation. But what seems to be the simple murder of a man found in a park gets more complicated when they identify him as Ned Rich, a somewhat paranoid investigative reporter who seems to be living above his means.
The more they dig, the more victims of Rich’s blackmail they find. And figuring out which one killed him seems like an impossible task. But then they stumble on the project Rich was working on at the time of his death—a not so white supremacist and a threat to our democracy—and the focus of the investigation turns to people who will do anything to protect their reputations and the secrecy of their traitorous goals.
Undeterred by the threats and attacks, Corelli and Parker battle to drag the traitors into the light—and put their lives on the line to defend all they believe in.

Catherine Maiorisi lives and writes in New York City.

Since she found her imagination, writing has been like meditating for Catherine and it is what she most loves to do. But she also reads voraciously, loves to cook, especially Italian, and enjoys hanging out with her wife and friends.

Catherine is the author of the NYPD Detective Chiara Corelli mysteries featuring Corelli and her partner P.J. Parker. There are currently four books in the series: A Matter of Blood, The Blood Runs Cold, A Message in Blood, and Legacy in the Blood.

When she wrote a short story to create the backstory for the love interest in her two unpublished Corelli mysteries, Catherine had never read any romance and hadn’t considered writing it. To her surprise, “The Fan Club” turned out to be a romance and was included in the Best Lesbian Romance of 2014.

Another surprise was hearing the voices of two characters, Andrea and Darcy, chatting in her head every night, making it difficult to sleep. Reassured by her wife that she wasn’t losing it, Catherine paid attention and those conversations led to her first romance novel, Matters of the Heart. Other romances include: No One But You, Ready for Love and Taking a Chance on Love.

The Disappearance of Lindy James is Catherine's first general fiction novel.

Catherine has mystery and romance short stories in various anthologies.

An active member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America, Catherine is also a member of The Golden Crown Literary Society.

4.25 Stars. Another really good book in the Chiara Corelli Mystery series. I’m still slowly catching up on books that I read -after my wrist surgery- but couldn’t review at the time. I’m a big fan of this series so I was happy to get to read this as it definitely helped take my mind off of some of the recovery pain. Like many other fans, I thought that book 3 might be the final book in the series as it tied up a lot of loose ends and ended on a good note. So the fact we actually even get a book 4, was both surprising and exciting. I’m at the point now that I’ll just say bring it on. I really enjoy these mystery books and I’ll keep reading them as long as Maiorisi keeps writing them.

When it comes to read order, the mystery is all contained in this one book so you could read this book without reading the previous three. However, I would recommend starting at book one, A Matter of Blood. So many things have changed over the series, characters have grown, relationships have strengthened or worsen, and romances have blossomed so you would miss out on all these side storylines about the characters. The mystery is great, and worth reading this book just for it, but the characters are what keeps me coming back so I think reading book one first is the way to go.

I was the most excited about this book because finally we get to see P.J. Parker have a chance to shine. This is the Chiara Corelli Mystery series so it is expected to be her lead and in her POV, but P.J. is her detective partner and I think as fans we were all waiting to finally get her POV. The premise of the book is that Corelli gives P.J. the lead on what looks to be a ‘common’ murder with no special circumstances attached. When the case leads to white supremacy and a possible attack against America, P.J. realizes she is in charge of her first homicide case that is anything but ‘common’. I don’t want to give anything away but let’s just say that P.J. getting to star in her own book was absolutely worth the wait.

I want to mention carefully, without spoilers, that I very much enjoyed the mystery. Maiorisi, is very good at dropping a clue or two, that will lead you to the ‘killer’, if you are paying close attention. She is really good about giving you the chance to solve the crime along with the characters, yet it isn’t easy and she will still throw a twist or two in that you don’t see coming. I was about 50/50 in guessing correctly, so I had fun with it but she still pulled one over me too.

Some people are just born to write mystery stories and I believe that Maiorisi is one of those people. Whether it is another Chiara Corelli Mystery book, or the start to a new mystery series, I just hope Maiorisi keeps writing mysteries. We don’t have a lot of current sapphic mystery writers and Maiorisi is a great one. If you are a mystery fan, I would highly recommend this whole series. If you are a fan of this series you will not want to miss this 4th book that was through the POV of P.J. Parker, Chiara’s detective partner. It was great to have P.J. star in own book and I hope we get more of her POV in the future.

A copy was given to me for review.

In this fourth novel of the Chiara Corelli Mystery series, Corelli hands off the lead detective role to her trainee and bodyguard P.J. Parker in what appears to be a simple homicide. Simple and homicide soon diverge as Parker and Corelli find out the victim is an investigative reporter with multiple aliases. The threads they follow lead to groups of dangerous white nationalists and a lucrative black mailing business.

The first sentence of the novel stopped me in my tracks. I reread it a number of times at first trying to understand the meaning and then just reading it for its ingenuity. The sentence brought me back fours years ago to the first novel, A Matter of Blood, when her brothers and sisters in blue were actively trying to end her life. Was Chiara walking toward her own death or a homicide? I was captured once again by Maiorisi’s consummate writing.

Legacy in the Blood is a masterful and complex mystery which never lets the reader breathe easy. Parker is in constant peril with the white nationalists while Corelli keeps looking over her shoulder for blow back from her fellow officers. The mystery expands and reaches outward in many different directions however Maiorisi reigns it all together in a convincing fashion by the end. The only small misstep in the story is a slowish reconning of who was behind the murder when all the facts were on the table. Other than this, Legacy in the Blood is a must read for all mystery readers.

I received an advance review copy from Bella Books and NetGalley. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4.25 stars. This is one of my favorite crime investigation series and I’m so happy to see that it keeps going strong.

Each book in this series has a complex and intriguing plot, which makes them more than interesting in their own right, but what also makes this series a delight to read are the main characters, Detectives P.J. Parker and Chiara Corelli. These characters keep growing throughout the series without becoming repetitive or predictable. In the first three books most attention is directed towards Chiara, she has some very rough edges and it’s interesting to see how she changes and becomes the far more balanced person she is in this book. But this book is all about P.J. Parker who has several personal and work related issues to battle in this book and I was glad to learn more about P.J.. I can only hope that there are many more books to come with these two detectives. I have to mention though, that because of the backstory of the characters these books should be read in order to fully enjoy them.

I’ve mentioned it before, but Maiorisi is not afraid to tackle sensitive topics and this book is no exception, but it is always done with care. I’m not going to say anything about the case, I know information about the case is needed in a blurb, but I was glad I did not read it beforehand, it’s better as a surprise. I will say it’s intricate with several subplots and while I did guess one of the subplots relatively early on there was still plenty to discover to keep me intrigued.

If it was not clear, this was another excellent police procedural and I easily recommend it.

Legacy in the Blood, the fourth book in the ‘Chiara Corelli Mystery’ series by Catherine Maiorisi, is definitely a book you want to read.

This is the best mystery/police procedural novel I’ve read this year. With each book I read by this author, I’m more impressed with her writing.

In this book NYPD Detectives Chiara Corelli and P.J. Parker are given what they believe is going to be a simple and fairly easy to solve murder. Of course it seems nothing is ever easy for these two. What starts out as a dead body in the park quickly escalates into the discovery of blackmail, political intrigue, more murders, white supremacy, and maybe even a threat to U.S. democracy. As Chiara and P.J. wade into this quagmire of an assignment, they become targets themselves. Now they must solve this mystery before one or both of them become victims.

This is an exciting, fast-paced, too-good-to-put-down thriller of a mystery novel. Once I began reading, I really did not want to stop. I already knew these characters from earlier books in the series. I loved the fact that Chiara and P.J. continue to grow as partners and friends. It is especially good to see how Chiara is recovering from past trauma in the former novels, and that she and Brett (a romantic interest in the last book) are still together. Since we see the story through both Chiara and P.J.’s eyes in third person, we really get to connect with P.J. in this book. It was fun getting to know her better. The different settings are well-described. The plot is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

This book has my highest recommendation. While I think you could read this as a standalone novel, my suggestion is to read all four books in order. They are all great books.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bella Books for an honest review.

Absolutely brilliant!

Legacy in the blood is the fourth book in the detective series by Catherine Maiorisi. All books in the series have been gripping, exciting, addictive and fresh. You know how you read many books, and sometimes you feel like you've read the storyline before? This is not the case with Catherine Maiorisi books. there original and I'm looking forward to reading more of her stories. I've given ‘legacy in the blood’ a 5/5.

I will review the entire series here

Chiara Corelli Mystery Series is the best Sapphic mystery series I have ever read
The entire book is well written, all the books is well plotted and hard to predict who’s the killer in each book

This is a Mystery series with a little bit of romance (unfortunately) TBH I wanted more romance

I Loved Corelli so much and my heart broke for her, all the Trauma she went through isn’t easy to move passed it without having PTSD, she can be a bitch sometimes (ok maybe more than sometimes) can anybody blame her though with all what happened to her? Being angry was her defense mechanism, But through the entire series her character development is amazing and she got better and better
She And Brett should get a separate book about there relationship only, i would read it in a blink of an eye 🥺🥺🥺.

Brett spoke for Corelli’s ears only. “I love it when you give orders.”
“You’re right,” Corelli said, smiling. “You are shameless.”

I love it too 😂😂😂😂😂.

Parker to be honest I didn’t like her very much, she is annoying most of time and she take everything so seriously! Girl chill out 😒

I loved book 2 and 3 the most, book 3 really broke my heart and i was so angry and wanted to kill someone and I cried so many times
My least favorite one is this one (Book 4) all of the book except 2 or 3 chapters is from Parker POV so since I didn’t like her I guess that’s why I didn’t like this book much, and she repeated herself so many times! especially after the attack, every witness she interviewed she say the same thing over and over again! It annoyed the hell out of me
Also the case was boring in my opinion and easy to predict not like the first three so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Finally the Narration, Abby Carden as always did a magnificent job narrating the series, if it wasn’t someone other than her I don’t think i would have finished the series in 3 day! Can you believe it? 3 DAYS 😂.

A Matter of Blood: 4/5 ⭐️

The Blood Runs Cold: 4/5 ⭐️

A Message in Blood: 4.5/5 ⭐️

Legacy in the Blood: 3.25/5 ⭐️

Overall I enjoyed the series very much and I hope we get a final book from Corelli

After the last book in the Chiara Corelli mystery series, I wasn't sure Maiorisi would write another, but I am very happy we get to continue our journey with these two detectives. This is book 4 in the series and I highly recommend reading the previous three before embarking on a read of this one. The character development over the course of these books is something to behold.

Maiorisi doesn't shy away from sensitive subjects, not in the previous book nor in this one. In this book, we read about the harsh realities of racism, white nationalism, and family loyalties. To only name a few. The story, as its characters and the mystery, are layered. The author does a great job of writing in new clues, new hints, tying up loose ends, and handling the delicate subjects with care.

I won't say anything about the case, it's much better read about in the book. I will say something about the characters. Where the previous 3 books were all centered around Chiara Corelli in this book we get more of an insight into P. J. Parker. I love how layered these characters are and how they are evolving from book to book. Parker's hesitancy towards the changing Corelli is understandable and relatable. And most of all, everything is just handled with so much care and thought. You can't help but love these crime-fighting ladies.

I can't wait for another book about these detectives, their colleagues and their loved ones.

Legacy in the Blood by Catherine Maiorisi, narrated by Abby Craden

Another very good installment of the Chiara Corelli Mystery series

When I was a teenager I used to devour Agatha Christie novels, there is something appealing in trying to solve a mystery along the way with the detective character. Many years later and hundreds of books after, I’m happy to have found a women-loving-women version of those novels.

This is book four in the Chiara Corelli Mystery series which follows the criminal investigations of NYPD detective Chiara Corelli and her partner Detective PJ Parker. The series, which should be read in chronological order, is formed by A Matter of Blood (book 1), The Blood Runs Cold (book 2), and A Message in Blood (book 3). A hunch tells me that there’s going to be at least a book five as there’s still a journey that both main characters have to go through.

Corelli and Parker are called to solve what seemed to be a straightforward murder investigation, but when the victim is identified as an investigative journalist who blackmailed criminals including members of a white supremacist movement, things start to escalate quickly. Especially when the white supremacists are connected to a threat to democracy.

Like in Agatha Christie’s novels, each book of the series focuses on a murder case that Corelli and Parker have to solve. I like that the cases featured can somehow be linked to real life. Book Three dealt with child pornography which resonated with the US sex trafficking trials while this one connects to the dangerous white supremacist movements.

I mentioned that the series should be read in chronological order, this is because there is an arc that follows Corelli’s and Parker’s struggles with personal issues and professional difficulties. As the series goes by, we learn more details about their pasts and how they are coping in the present. Even though there is a romantic arc, I wouldn’t recommend this series for the romance as it’s very much in the background. The criminal cases are always in the driving seat moving the plot forward.

Abby Craden has narrated the whole series so far and she’s done a magnificent job. Her performance as short-tempered Detective Corelli and guarded Detective Parker is fantastic. Ms. Craden makes this series even more appealing. A pleasure to listen to. 4.5 stars.

This was awesome. I love Maiorisi's mystery novels. Seeing how Corelli and Parker work together, how their relationship has grown as partners was so good. The way their case unravelled into so many layers and BAM, the take down!!! It was so exciting to read. I loved it.

Also, it should be updated to the Corelli Parker Mystery series instead. Getting the POV from both Corelli and Parker was *chef's kiss* I hope there's more to come for these two.

4.25 stars - I’ve been following this series for a while now, and ‘Legacy in the Blood’ did not disappoint! The book starts off a bit slow, especially when it comes to the murder investigation, but if you’ve read the previous books, you’ll know to stick with it. Catherine Maiorisi has earned my trust as a writer, and sure enough, the plot picks up, and what seemed like a simple case quickly turns into something much bigger and more complex.

One of the things I really liked about this book was the shift in POV. In the past, we’ve mostly seen things through Chiara Corelli’s eyes, but this time the story is mainly told from P.J. Parker’s POV. I’ve liked Parker since Book 1, so it was a real treat to get to follow her more closely in this installment.

As for Corelli, I have to admit that I’ve completely changed my opinion of her. I didn’t like her much in the earlier books—her attitude rubbed me the wrong way despite knowing chunks of what happened to her in the past—but here, I got to learn more about her past, and it makes everything she’s done up until Book 3 a lot more understandable. I can finally see her character in a much clearer light, and I think, I’m much more sympathetic toward her now.

What’s also really compelling is the relationship between Corelli and Parker. Over the course of the series, they’ve been helping each other deal with their personal struggles, often without even realizing it. Here, their bond feels like it’s growing stronger, and it’s been great to watch them go from colleagues to real partners and friends. It’s a nice evolution in their dynamic, and it’s made me care about them both even more.

Now, as for the investigation itself—while it was riveting to follow, I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by how it all wrapped up. I guess I was hoping for a more surprising conclusion, but it didn’t really hit me with any big twists. Still, I can’t say it ruined the experience for me. The journey through the investigation and all the little and major insights into the characters and the case were enough to keep me hooked.

All in all, ‘Legacy in the Blood’ is a solid addition to the series! I’m really enjoying where the characters of Corelli and Parker are heading, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Legacy in Blood is definitely worth reading if you are into awesome female detectives. I enjoyed this title a lot, and you can easily like it without reading prior titles of the series. However, since there are some developments in Parker and Corelli’s characters you’d miss out on some things without reading the other titles first. I loved how Parker and Corelli’s relationship has changed in this story, and how these two work on a thrilling criminal case.

Another series that so far, does not disappoint. I like that we see the relationship between Corelli and Parker evolving. This time, Parker is given the lead in the investigation. As always, the case that they deal with is interesting and complex. It's not as cut and dry as some police procedurals would have it. Well written and enjoyable.

I lovvvvvvveeee this series. Book Four started a little slow but once we were up and running I was enthralled. This book has quite a bit going on in it - there's a few criminal elements within which were really interesting to read and I had no idea how it was going to end. Each book surprises me in that way - we follow along with the detectives while they investigate and then the end result always surprises me. Maiorisi is such a talented writer.

There's one additional element that made me love this novel just a little more than the others - we saw more from PJ's perspective. Don't get me wrong, I love Corelli, but I've always wanted to know PJ a little more in the previous novels. Although we get to see certain aspects of PJ's personal life in Book Four, I still think PJ has many more layers to uncover so here's hoping there's a Book Five.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bella Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3 stars

Detectives Chiara Corelli and P.J. Parker catch a murder case where the body is found in a local park. They quickly ascertain that robbery is not the motive. As they begin peeling back the layers, they find their victim was a well-know investigative journalist who was not what he seemed to be. The journalist had another life in which he amassed a fortune blackmailing people in a clever scheme to keep his identity a secret.

This book doesn’t allow for the possibility that someone who hasn’t read the first three books in the series might be interested in reading this book and the series. That’s unfortunate because Maiorisi gives no background on the main characters other than the occasional throw-away comment. The reader is left to wonder while the author introduces dozens of characters without explaining who they are other than cops, agents, or even if they are important to this story beyond a brief appearance.

This is not your typical LesFic novel in that there is no romance to speak of. The main character Corelli may or may not be involved with a woman named Brett, who is mentioned several times in the early chapters, but never introduced to the reader in any detail. You learn more about the main characters at the end of the book, but by then it’s too late. Many LesFic authors manage to have their characters have interesting jobs while at the same time having a life outside their careers. Unfortunately, Maiorisi is not one of them.

If you want to read this series, you’d be well-served to start with book one and hopefully the author introduces her main characters there. The author, on the other hand, would be sell-served to read authors like Louise Penny, Charles Todd, and P.D. James to learn how they re-introduce their on-going characters in each new book in their series without boring their on-going readers to tears and not having their new readers flinging their books across the room because they’re bored to tears since they don’t know who they’re reading about.

My thanks to Bella Books and NetGalley for an eARC.

The first 3 books were outstanding. This one was slightly underwhelming. I read the first three books in 2 days because, everything from the story, the action, the craziness, the acceptance, literally everything was amazing.

This one didn't really click the hype, for me, as the first 3 books did. And the book series being called "Chiara Corelli Mystery Series" but the book having only one under-chapter as her POV didn't thrill me. There is just something about Chiara Corelli's character that captivates you in a way that Penelope Jasmine Parker's character doesn't. Yes, P.J. was interesting in the books before but in this one, her POV or character wasn't well exploited to captivate me like Chiara Corelli was. If you read the first 2 books, you can clearly see that.

There are many stories that intrigue me and as a black woman, racism stories don't intrigue me one bit. I just end up being angry about things I can't seem to control. This is a crime series, so it is understandable that this plot was visited. But I wasn't really satisfied. Now that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the wins of the team. That was rather fabulous. And what happened to Ndep, just damn.

Corelli and Parker are investigating a homicide that seems straightforward but when they dig deeper they learn it’s not the case. Parker is leading the charge this time and they learn leads them to groups of dangerous white nationalists and a lucrative black mailing business.

I love how this is good mystery that had the characters holding their breath at every turn and how it all came to ahead. This series could easily be on screen with each book as movie on any of the streaming services if only they would adapt a lgbtqia book as leads not just supporting characters

My first time reading a Chiara Corelli Mystery. Legacy in the Blood is book 4, but I was able to pop in without needing to have read the three previous books. A good sign for a series. In this book, Corelli's detective partner, P.J. Parker takes over the reigns of an investigation into the suspicious deaths which turn into a multiple death inquiry focused on a white supremacist's family. The book felt very contemporary and the end satisfying. Loved the focus on so many professional lesbian characters and how they move through the world in NYC. Will definitely go back and read more Chiara Corelli.

Many thanks to Bella Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

This is hard for me. I liked the book. A lot. It’s a classic Corelli mystery and you just can’t go wrong! The difference is the focus of this book is on Parker, the partner. I love Parker. She is smart, shrewd, and quick on her feet, BUT she isn’t Corelli. Don’t get me wrong, the mix up keeps the series interesting and I’m sure most people liked the variation. I, on the other hand, felt like my hot teacher in middle school was out sick for the week and the substitute was just as hot, but a stranger and not my hot teacher. Regardless, Maiorisi hit another home run. The intricacies of her mysteries are so well constructed and then deconstructed by Corelli and Parker. This version was poignant but, as expected, Parker and Corelli’s quick wit and actions give you hope that not everyone in this world is a raging jerk.

This book represents a step back in quality for the Corelli series—especially after Message in Blood, which for all its flaws, was probably the best.

With Legacy, Maoirisi repeats some of her worst habits without adding compelling new characters, believable character development, or, for that matter, an interesting crime.

The Crimes of Corelli!

1. Adding character details irrespective of what occurred in earlier books. Example:

In the first book, Parker is leery of Corelli’s sexual orientation and seems to have only dated men. By the second book, she seems to be questioning her identity. In the third book, she declares shes a lesbian and is dating Gloria. That’s fine. However, in the fourth book we learned she had a several week relationship with a minor supporting character (Deb Maynard) off page and that it ended badly. Then she says she’s dated several women. Then we meet her college ex-girlfriend and she’s been a self aware lesbian for a dozen years. But, she wasn’t. She never thought it. She was uncomfortable with Corelli being one because it conflicted with her upbringing.

2. Piling on trauma. This connects to the first one but example:

Corelli was traumatized by her experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq and her ostracism by her fellow police. Later revealed that besides general trauma, Corelli saw her girlfriend , Marnie, killed by a terrorist explosion. Then we learn she was also traumatized by working the 9-11 scene. Then we learn she was traumatized by her brother’s murder when she was a teenager. By Legacy, it is revealed that Marnie was deep in the closet (only after it was revealed that Gloria was too) and that she died just before she would come out to her parents (even though everyone else knew). Yet before that, because Parker is attacked and beaten, Corelli reveals out of nowhere that she was almost raped by two fellow soldiers just before Marnie blew up. Any one of these traumas is enough for a character. Adding them just so the main character can have a personal stake in the moment of another character is silly.

Parker has a similar piling on. Mother died when she was young. Wait, mother was murdered.
Wait, mother was murdered and PJ was there. Wait, she was left there for days. Wait, she was given to an addict sister. Wait, then she was given to an alcoholic grandmother who hated her. Wait, the addict sister traded PJ sexually for drugs. Wait her uncle/adoptive father had total disdain for her. Wait, he murdered her mother/his sister for… reasons… even if the mother and other sister were far worse stains on his background.

3. Compelling events happen off-page/between books.

Book 1: Marnie’s death. The undercover work. Book 2: Parker’s relationship with Maynard occurs but it is necessary mentioned until book 4. Book 3: Chiara and Brett have a romantic vacation. Parker apparently dates several women in total secrecy. The takedown of the child trafficking ring is glossed over. Book 4: Parker’s relationship with Gloria is falling apart but they are never seen together until the last part of the book and the great detective had no idea.
4. Making the murder the less intriguing crime.

In books 3 and 4, the child trafficking and the ludicrous plot by the white supremacists are far more interesting than the murders of people who largely seems to deserve it. Apart from book 2, every murder victim was unsympathetic except for one of three in book 4.

5. Making the murder effectively unsolvable by the reader.

Though they are described as mysteries, none of the stories have a mystery that could be solved based just on clues. It always required a loopy leap of logic “Who really wears the pants in the family” (book 2) or spontaneous confessions by the murderer and most of the suspects as they all lie unnecessarily.

6. Insisting how important relationships are but never showing substantive romance.

As noted earlier, Corelli and Parker’s romantic relationships are referenced many times but rarely was the depth of the relationship explored. The reader is told the couple is great together. They aren’t show it.

Now this book here was a nice twist I did not see coming I was expecting Corelli's point of view and I ended up with Parker and I've been so fascinated and curious about Parker and what goes through her mind It was such a treat to get her point of view and to find out more about her This was a wonderful thing and also see her coming to her own as a detective two and I feel like her in Corelli have have reached a different scope with their partnership that really in my opinion really sees Parker as her partner and not just someone she has to put up with or even teach so this was a nice book I'm not going to spoil too much of the mystery it's been a while since I actually read the story so I don't have a lot of the details as I did but for my recall I absolutely love this book It was a wonderful surprise to get Parker's whole point of view and throughout this whole book So it was a nice surprise and I hopefully look forward to the next book in the series I have no idea if there's going to be another one but I'm hoping that it will be a book 5 that would be really nice I actually want as many books in this series as the author wants to write she does an amazing job at police procedure mystery books and I would love for her to continue in this in this series.

4.5 ⭐️. I really enjoyed this book, Parker and Corelli are becoming my favorite sapphic detectives. This fourth book developed their individual characters much more for me. They are at the point now of fully trusting each other and have become a great team.

The begining of this book really captivated me, there were several people who had a grudge against the victim and the opportunity to kill her. I think the book dragged a bit in the middle but picked up in the end. All of Maiorisi's books are very detailed and a bit longer than most other sapphic books, which I enjoyed. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and the mystery to unravel, so it engaged my mind.

The victim in this book is a trans woman, and Maiorisi did a great job of describing the thoughts and emotions that trans women go through during their transition and afterwards when deciding to come out.

Even though this is the fourth book in this series, I can’t assure you that you don’t have to read the first book. Ms Maiorisi has done a good job of bringing us, who hadn’t read them, up to date.
Detectives P.J. Parker and Chiara Corelli are expected to work together even though neither seemed thrilled with the order. But they have a job so they try to be a bit more considerate to each other. What at first looks like a simple murder is quickly becoming much more.
Now to try to explain how this all comes about is going to be hard. Bottom line, this is one heck of a good read. Had a very hard time putting this aside so I didn’t. Great characters, interesting fast paced murder mystery. Very enjoyable read.

Cracking lesbian crime fiction, latest in the series, which means that the author can really focus on the story using characters that she has already introduced. I like this kind of writing where we have a selection of interesting people, getting on with their lives and jobs. In this Chiara is recovering from the attempt on her live and lets her partner (colleague) Parker take the lead on the case. Parker is Black which becomes increasingly relevant as they investigate a murder which links to a white supremacist family. The author takes the opportunity to go deep on the family and their beliefs, which are shocking and entrenched. An intricate story well told.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a review.

A story that uncovered new meaning in leadership and a lesson in life

I enjoyed this crime centered series. Book 4 was an amazing story with P.J. Parker shines as she takes the lead in this multiple murder. Chiara Corelli is setting back into reclaiming her life after trauma that had defined her. These two are good partners and they work so well together as they grow to trust each other. The crime justs eemed simple but as it unfolds the constant struggle to stay safe hits PJ with a fight. These crime stories have been intriguing and full of twists. It is spellbindingand I went through the whole series loving these characters growths. I was sad for the end of the series but enjoy a new author.

2 detectives Chiara and PJ paired together to solve what seems to be a simple murder but it becomes much more. The plot is very good and keeps you guessing throughout the book. The characters are well written and make for a good story. There is murder, conspiracy and drama throughout. The sub characters make the story complete and really add to the plot.
I recommend this book to thriller readers with a touch of romance.
I just reviewed Legacy in the Blood by Catherine Maiorisi. #LegacyintheBlood #NetGalley

Nuova indagine per le Detectives Chiara Corelli e P.J. Parker.

Another excellent instalment in this excellent series. This time PJ gets to lead a ‘simple’ investigation into the murder of a journalist. But the case is anything but simple… I like the way that people who are injured in Ms Maiorisi’s books are written as if the injury is ‘real’ and has after effects. In some crime novels, a character is shot and two days later is chasing a suspect and climbing fences. Not in this series - a nice bit of writing.

I’m looking forward to the new one
