An okay volume. After having seen the anime so many times, and having played the Legacy of the Duelist game twice, these duels are a little old. But that’s just a personal issue, anybody experiencing these for the first time will enjoy them.

Il capitolo 105 è, senza ombra di dubbio, uno tra i più intensi di tutto il Manga. A dir poco meraviglioso.

Damn, I forgot there was actually more of an angle toward Yugi-Anzu romance...!

The manga continues its zany take on card games. The Player Killer of Darkness is the main enemy in Volume 10, and that whole duel is just nonsense. How does Castle of Dark Illusions float outside the context of the holograms? Sure, it makes enough sense for it to summon Darkness/Yami to obscure PKD's other monsters, but... that's about it. Like, Yugi can't attack the enemy monsters because he can't see them to target them. Does it even work that way in the real-life game? I guess it does. Having to claim "I attack Yamimakai no Haō," unlike the MtG method of defenders being able to choose shields. I don't know what I'm saying, because I'm more family with YGO as a game than MtG. Well, anyway... the whole "Swords of Revealing Light keeps Castle of Dark Illusions floating after Catapult Turtle destroys the Castle's floatation ring(!?), and Chaos Shield keeps PKD's monsters from running away from the Castle when it falls because...????"... It's just wild, man.

Bro, but, like, if Jonouchi passed out because he was spooked by the crypt... why not just loot his Star Chips???

Also, the Kuriboh versus Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon battle just doesn't make much sense at all, either. Multiplied Kuriboh don't take damage because... they explode before the Damage Step? And you can just fuse Mammoth Graveyard to BEUD to fuck him up, which means he loses power equal to MG's ATK each turn...??? I'd want to kill myself, too, if someone pulled that bullshit against me.

One thing about Duel Monsters that sets it widely apart from subsequent, non-canon (that is, non-Takahashi) series is that all the decks are Cookie Cutter. There are some archetypes, kind of; Harpie Lady, for example. But no duelist goes balls-to-the-wall like Judai with his HERO cards or Playmaker with all the Cyberse guys. What does Dark Magician have to do with Summoned Skull or Celtic Guardian or Beaver Warrior? Why does Gaia ride Curse of Dragon through Fusion? Kaiba has three Blue-Eyes, but how does Battle Ox factor in?Or La Jinn? Flame Swordsman, Axe Raider, and Kojikocy kind of fit together as a Warrior deck, but what about Time Wizard or Red-Eyes? The Meikyū Brothers have labyrinth-themed monsters, but Monster Tamer himself is random, and Gate Guardian plays more into the "guarding the doors to the castle" element than anything really to do with the labyrinth itself.

Volume 10: The (somewhat abrupt) conclusion of Jonouchi versus Ryuzaki. Mai versus Player Killer of Darkness (mostly offscreen). Dark Yugi versus Player Killer of Darkness. Kaiba's helicopter ride to the island. The dawn of the Duel Disk, through Jonouchi versus Kaiba. (Bandit Keith versus Tom.)

Volume 11: Jonouchi versus Ghost Kozuka. Dark Yugi and Jonouchi versus the Meikyū Brothers.

Volume 12: The conclusion of YuJo versus Meikyū. Dark Yugi versus Kaiba, via Duel Disk.

****

Anzu's boobs when she's about to take a shower...!

The silly plan of dropping Castle of Dark Illusions, which somehow works to deplete PKD's Life Points.

Kaiba stopping the gun with Gyakutenno Megami!

Mai in the casino dealer costume, adjacent to the start of Chapter 85...! 🤤🥵

"Don't make me laugh, you baby goth!"

The Gate Guardian, who was always cool as fuck!

And the motherfuckin' BLACK SKULL DRAGON!!!1!

BLUE-EYES ULTIMATE DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!

"This cross I've carried... the cross of Collectible Card Game defeat... NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO CARRY IT! AND YOU'LL CRAWL ON THE GROUND IN HUMILIATION!"

****

I... I think someone fucked up in the translation. Yugi refers to Mai as "Miss Shiranui" in Chapter 88. Mai Shiranui is an entirely different character in an entirely different franchise. Still hot, though ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯

Enjoyable. The plot is getting more interesting and the development of the characters is a welcomed sight. The “villains” sometimes feel way to over the top, not every bad guy needs to me the most vile person in the world. Mai is probably the best thing of the book since she is a new character that has depth and is unique, she is definitely the highlight for me. Joey always winning due to luck is interesting I guess, his character has shown a lot of improvement as of late, also a highlight. Yugi is the same. I like the return of a previous character, what a dramatic entrance, love it. Next book is developing to be quite an interesting one.

This volume was really quite fun to me. ,The tension is building up more and more and we're on the second day of Duelist Kingdom now. One of my favorite duels, against Ghost Kozuka, from the anime is in this volume and that's a big reason as to why i gave it 5 stars.

The duels throughout this volume are actually all really entertaining. The main story moves along quite nicely aswell in my opinion. There is also some conflict within Yugi that deepens him as a character.

I really look forward to reading the next volume, and i'll surely pick it up as soon as i can.

I am surprised that more of the story makes sense compared to the anime. The game style reminds me a lot of the Duelist of the Roses game for the PS2. Still enjoyed the story and love seeing the differences and how dark the book series really is.

Now that this has gone full card game mode it's a lot more fun. Summoned Skull and Pumpking, the King of Ghosts are great monsters.
