The introduction of Yelena Belova in these issues makes this book worth checking out, but the book is not without faults. The opening story relies more on art than characterization to tell its narrative, leading the book to feel underwhelming until Yelena officially appears. The middle story’s art and story is excellent but the final story enter into some BDSM territory that feels like the book is meant to shock rather than tell a realistic narrative. Their is a conclusion to the story that recontextualizes these events, but not enough to make the last story feel like it was not written by men for the male gaze.
