I'd been called all these things and more only to find out that I was also a blood witch - the last one. Now everyone wanted a piece of me, and I not only had to figure out my place in this new world, but also what I could do and who I could trust.
Bastard. Loner. Monster.
I was all these things and more. I had spent so long with my grief that it became my new normal. The losses that I experienced created who I am now. Until her. For her I want to be better, for her I will destroy everything and everyone in my path to keep her safe... she'll just have to get used to me.
Warning: This book contains scenes of abuse that some readers may find triggering. As well as sexual situations, violence, excessive swearing, British humour, and scenes that may offend you. Recommended for 18+
Teacher by day, writer by night, mum all of the time. As far back as she can remember, Kam has had a book in her hand. She has been an avid follower of the indie-author community for years and recently took the liberty of trying out this book writing thing herself....and the Blood Witch Chronicles was born.
Blurb: Weird. Unwanted. Orphan. I’d been called all these things and more only to find out that I was also a blood witch – the last one. Review: This was a captivating work by a debut author. The plot is original, exciting, well-paced, and features enjoyable protagonists alongside truly evil antagonists. In essence, a modern-day, three month pregnant 25-year-old accidently awakens her secret Blood Witch powers and - accompanied by her best friend and teenage foster brother - she must navigate those seeking to protect or exploit her while learning her lineage and to control her explosive powers. Notably, the FMC is biracial and her foster brother and BFF are Black :) Also, this book is written in British English and takes place in London, England. Romance is fast burn and very steamy.
TW: In the about-the-author section, Ms. Coulter mentions loving romance and horror. This combination is evident in Blood Witch. The official blub (above) has a TW, but since the triggers are often graphically described in the story, I'm going to list them here. These are all committed by the evil antagonists. Non-spoilers: Brutal sexual abuse - not against MC, but still highly unsettling - & torture, past killing of families & children, brutal murder of FMC's ancestor Blood Witch in prologue, racism. Spoilers (MAJOR!):
I thoroughly enjoyed this. If you are a fan of romantic supernatural stories with a bit of raunchy sex added this is for you. This is a really great piece of writing for a first book. Well done Kelly. Can't wait for the next edition.
Blood Witch Book 1 by Kelly Couture is an exciting action and paranormal romance story. Zoe grew up in the foster system with only her foster brother Nate and her best friend Lissa to count on. However, when she finds herself pregnant and experiencing some changes, the last thing she expected was to be attacked by Lycans and saved by witches. She is the last blood witch, but all she wants to do is protect her family and be left alone. When she falls for Lucian, will he be her savior or demise?
This story was so exciting I didn't want to put it down. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. There is plenty of action, and Zoe and her family find themselves being chased and struggling to find a place where they all fit in. All this while she is pregnant and trying to look out for herself and the baby. I loved the characters in the story and how tight the group is, proving family doesn't always have to share blood.
I rate Blood Witch 5 out of 5 stars. The story is filled with excitement and includes an intriguing backstory of the origin of witches and Lycans. I've always been a sucker for instant love. The lust and passion Zoe and Lucian experience while getting to know each other is a perfect example of this trope. The story is filled with lies, betrayals, twiĺsts, and surprises. Some exciting moments end in a bittersweet HFN ending. There are some occurrences in the book that may be upsetting to some, so please check the content warning before reading if needed. If you enjoy exciting paranormal romances with a found family you'll love Blood Witch.
1-Second-Summary After a rowdy night, Zoe discovers that she might be a witch - one of the last and most powerful of her kind. A Blood Witch. However, her self-discovery is always noted by some not so friendly foes...
Review - Witches, Witchcraft and Lycans - Coulter has sparked my appetite for the supernatural! Piece by piece the story is uncovered, the danger, the history, the horror and the romance unfurl beautifully in this one!
I love how brutally honest the MCs Zoe and Lissa are - they are so realistic and down-to-earth, their friendship so refreshing to read. Our love interest - Lucian is drool-worthy and damn, the steamy scenes totally hit the spot!
I would have liked to see a bit more of their romance blossoming as the development of their relationship was quite fast-paced for my liking.
An action-packed, Horror Romance this one is built to satisfy your naughty and nice side!
Beware - this one has a few triggers, so please check them out before diving in!
I loved this book. I can’t wait to see where book two goes. Our main character Zoe is an orphan. She has a foster mom but she’s not a good one. She has made her own family. Her foster brother Nathan and her best friend Lissa are her family. Zoe doesn’t know she’s a witch let alone a blood witch and what that means. There’s an incident at a party. Zoe comes in to her powers. Now she is being hunted. Lucian is there to help Zoe and keep her safe. Will Zoe get a handle on her magic? Will the people after Zoe catch her? Read the book to find out what happens to Zoe and her family. Please read and heed the trigger warnings. Have a safe and happy reading of this book. You won’t be disappointed and will be dying for book two.
I devoured this book. I loved the dynamic that Zoe, Nate and Lissa have as a family. There’s such a great detailed backstory involved and the insta love trope of Zoe and Lucian. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and betrayals because it really left me on the edge of my seat and guessing what happens next. Speaking of which I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
This is the debut novel from Kelly Coulter, and it definitely does not disappoint!
The story is fast paced, exciting and full of drama and spicy scenes. Zoe and Lucian were an enjoyable book couple to read, their romance is instalove and boy does Lucian let her know he's fallen fast and hard! Zoe is still learning about her blood witch abilities in this book which she brought on my accident. I can't wait to see how her powers progress!
A fantastic read from Kelly. I'll be jumping into the next book soon, I can't wait to see what happens with the characters!
This is a love story, but so much more than that. Blood Witch is about family, friendship, self-discovery and cruelty.
The characters are amazing, perfectly written. Zoe’s best friend (Lissa) and younger brother (Nate) were so adorable and added such an unique touch to this book, with super cute moments and comic reliefs. Lucian was the perfect book boyfriend, so protective and loving, and Jacob (the villain) was BAD bad, which was a delight to read.
There’s just the right amount of (extreme!) violence, tension, comedy, romance, and drama. I can’t wait to read Blood Queen.
What a freakin adventure.
MAJOR SPOILER BELOW!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a great debut novel from Kelly, she has a clear ability and passion for writing, which is felt through the story. The author does a great job at building the paranormal world where the story takes place. I really enjoyed both characters and can’t wait to read the final instalment in this duet.
I was lucky enough to be given an advanced copy of the book. A great easy read, well written by Kelly. Zoe’s story is just getting started and I look forward to reading part 2.
This book has graphic sex & brutal violence and swearing. If you are happy to continue then you will be on a journey of discovery, with Zoe as struggles to comprehend who she is, who she can trust.
I received an ARC of this book and am giving my voluntary review.
Story: ⭐⭐⭐ (3.5) Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (4.0)
I have a trigger warning that may be a spoiler which I think should've been disclosed --- see very bottom of review
I give this a solid 3.5 stars out of 5.
This is the first novel I've read by this author and I definitely liked it. The blurb doesn't really match the actual story so to sum it up: Zoe is unaware that she is a blood witch -- finding out in a night where her loved ones are put into danger. This calls ancient foes (she is unaware of) directly to her location.
As she begins to grow into herself and her power, she's met with new loves (Lucian), friends, and enemies in disguise who would use her for their own ends.
She has to navigate protecting herself, her family, and the relationship she's forming with Lucian.
This story doesn't quite end on a cliff hanger -- it's a complete standalone. But it does still have a lot to explain and clearly there's another story to be told.
As an American reading this, the UK language was not an issue at all. It's very easy to pick up and make the connections.
There are a couple of really scorching sex scenes -- which I highlighted for review in detail later 😏
Where I struggled was the world building. I didn't quite make the connections between the goddesses used and the way blood witches were created. It was definitely a departure from "normal lore" and the descriptions didn't quite sell it for me. I definitely appreciated the authors intent but I wish it could've been more robust.
I think it was a really entertaining book and I'm satisfied leaving there.

***Please check your triggers before starting this book!*** This book is great! Starting out with our female main character... Zoe! She is up against the world, with nothing going her way from the time she was born! Given up by her birth mom into the foster system she went. Landing with her last foster mom, who she lives with even after aging out of the system. Staying to take care of her younger foster brother, since their foster mom is never present. All is Zoe's version of normal.... making sure her brother goes to school, her going to work, spending time with her boyfriend of years. And her best friend who lives in the apartment upstairs. Until she finds out she is pregnant, and tells her boyfriend... who immediately tucks tail and leaves! From here things move rather quickly! Zoe is thrown into a whole new world full of things of myth, except they aren't! And Lissa and Nate are along for the ride the entire way! This was really a great read, and I'm looking forward to jumping into the second book.. with the third book set to release later this month!
This is an intriguing read by a debut author. I really enjoyed the plot, the world building and the concept. It's written in British English so as an American it took me a bit to adjust to the pacing and wordage. Be sure to check trigger warnings.
I feel like it could have used another hard edit run as there were bouts that seemed to just drag things on or small errors like switching between something happening on a Wednesday or Friday. Nothing too major but enough to slightly distract me from the story
Insta-love is hit or miss with me and this book had a pretty abrupt case of it but it sort of grew on me.
I'm definitely planning to read book 2 as I really need to see Zoe get her revenge.
This was not a bad book at all. It’s very British, so as an American I stumbled with a lot of the references. The pacing is a bit slow. Our leads only briefly meet by 50% and then it’s super fast Insta love. There is a lot of graphic enemy sex scenes. I’m not sure they were necessary to know the bad guys were BAD. The ending is HFN and alludes to another book. I might check it out if I notice it’s release.
I really liked this book. It had just the right amount of dark angst! And OMG, the villain is very well written! I can't wait for him to get what he deserves. And the TWs are spot on. This is not for the faint of heart! Oh and if the "C" word offends you, then be warned it's use is great! I am here for it! Lol! Anyways, this was a great dark and delicious take on witches and Lycans. I can't wait for book two to see what Zoe has planned for revenge!!
Had a hard time reading. It needs to go back through another round of editing. In one sentence the dr apt is on a Wednesday then a few lines later it's on a Friday then back to Wednesday. Then the character ran away. But then didn't run away. It was too confusing trying to figure out what was going on
I think the author did a good job creating an interesting shifter/witch romance. I enjoyed the instant connection between Lucian and Zoey. Good amount of action, drama and spice throughout the story. Possible trigger warnings so be aware. HFN cliffy, but I’d like to see where the story goes in book #2.
