Banksy, THE WALLED OFF ART EDITIONS are SOLD OUT New art book about Banksy uncovers the secrets of his Walled Off art editions Flemish author Marc Pairon set out to investigate and now uncovers the secrets of Banksy’s much-coveted Walled Off art editions. Between 2017 and 2020, Banksy had a number of remarkable objets d’art issued in Palestine, aimed at drawing attention to the awkward living conditions of the Palestinian people. Until now, nobody knew how many different editions of these hand-painted multiples had been produced. The Banksy phenomenon needs no further introduction. All over the world, he is currently the visual artist who gets the most attention in the press and is on everybody’s lips. His possible life story has already received extensive literary coverage, while most of his graffiti has been published many times. In 2017, Banksy opened his The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, a living art installation with which he brings the Palestinian oppression up for discussion. After all, as a Social Artist he always sympathizes with the fate of mankind and acts – in all conscience and good faith – accordingly. Between 2017 and 2020, Banksy issued limited editions of miniature multiples of the dividing wall in Palestine, which were only available to guests staying at The Walled Off Hotel. Indeed, deliberately creating a scarcity is one of Banksy’s trademarks. The various shapes of the ‘souvenirs’ executed in polymer resin were created by Banksy himself, while he also supervised the graffiti decorations carried out by Palestinian artists. These decorations copy the graffiti that can be found on the Israeli barrier on the West Bank and include a number of iconic images by the grandmaster himself. Until now, little to nothing is known about the the diversity of the Walled Off art editions and the quantities that were issued. Such secrecy is simply part of the Banksy myth, which is carefully cultivated by its guardians. Nevertheless, Flemish author and art expert Marc Pairon (°1959, known from his worldwide bestseller ART DECO CERAMICS - Made in Belgium and other publications) has managed to map out this exceptional series of multiples. He began his research in Palestine and made an inventory of numerous international collections and archives, which resulted in the uncovering of the secrets behind this series of rare and now much-coveted collectibles. This yielded an exceptionally fascinating and useful reference work, containing around 200 unique photographs and extensive background information about this historic artistic legacy.

Marc Pairon is een Belgische dichter en kunstkenner. Wegens omstandigheden trok hij als vijftienjarige als clochard, zwervend door Europa. Zijn aparte manier van opmaak van teksten trok de aandacht van het dichtersgenootschap Pink Poets die hem hielpen zijn eerste dichtbundel uit te brengen en zo een terugtocht in de maatschappij betekenden. Na het dichten schreef hij verhalen en bracht hij kunstboeken uit.
Van deze auteur las/ bekeek ik het boek Banksy, The walled off art editions are Sold Out.
Ja, je leest het goed Banksy. Als er nu een onbekende bekende artiest is dan is het zeker Banksy. Er zijn er natuurlijk nog maar hij is toch één van de bekendste.
Banksy is een Britse graffiti/stencil kunstenaar met kunstwerken die vaak een politieke en humoristische achtergrond hebben. Kunstwerken die een boodschap bevatten. Hij slaagde er zelfs in zijn werken in verschillende museums binnen te smokkelen in NY. Een kunstwerk probeerde hij zelfs te vernietigen tijdens een veiling, maar dit lukte niet volledig.
Banksy opende in 2017 op de Westelijke Jordaanoever in Bethlehem een hotel. Samen met andere creatievelingen was het de bedoeling om hiervan een tijdelijk project van te maken. Het hotel bevindt zich net naast de Israëlische scheidingsmuur. Het hotel staat vol met het werk van Banksy en nu en dan is er een expo van een mede kunstenaar.
Het boek dat ik las bundelt de kunstwerken die aanwezig zijn, of waren, in het hotel. Waren, want veel ervan is verkocht maar er wordt telkenmale nieuw werk bijgebracht. Het werk is geïnspireerd op zijn grote werken die hij overal, en vooral in Palestina, aanbracht. Zoals bepaalde werken die hij rechtstreeks op de scheidingmuur plaatste.
De kunstwerken worden in beeld gebracht met de afmetingen erbij. De verschillende formaten en uitvoeringen komen aan bod.

Vooraan het boek laat Pairon ons eerst kennismaken met de artiest Banksy. Wat achtergrond info over de man zelf en zijn werk. Natuurlijk over de man zelf niet zoveel want officieel weet niemand wie het echt is, alhoewel Pairon aangeeft een vermoeden te hebben over de identiteit.
Het boek is dus echt wel bedoeld voor zij die interesse hebben in dit hotel. Heb je interesse in Banksy zijn werken denk ik dat er reeds betere boeken gemaakt zijn hierover.
