When a confidential informant hands FBI Agent Amelia Storm the flash drive containing the information he gave her brother Trevor before he was killed, Amelia realizes she’s holding a time bomb waiting to explode. Especially when its contents reveal the extent to which the senator on the FBI’s radar has infiltrated Chicago’s law enforcement system.
But Amelia’s investigation into her brother’s murder is put on the back burner when the body of a young girl with her eyes gruesomely removed is found in the trunk of a black Nissan scheduled for processing at a local junkyard. Better yet, the salvage yard is run by the Leónes, the mafia family suspected to be behind Trevor’s death.
Is the murderer tied to the Leónes...or a serial killer smart enough to dump his victims in a mafia-affiliated junkyard? The only thing Amelia knows for sure is the clock is ticking before the killer strikes again.

Another good thriller in this series. These books are always page turners, and I can't stop until I get to the end. I certainly would recommend this to others.
I voluntarily reviewed this advance reader copy and have not been compensated in any way. Storm's Nightmare by Mary Stone and Amy Wilson is another in the Amelia Storm series. Each book continues the story line from the previous book and begins to set the stage for the next book. Very well written and difficult to put down once you start reading. Intrigue, suspense, exciting, descriptive are just a few words to describe this book. Highly recommend.
‘Military veteran turned FBI special agent Amelia Storm returns to her corrupt hometown of Chicago to avenge her brother’s death, becoming an unstoppable force that exposes the city’s darkest secrets while solving its most dangerous crimes.’
Storm's Nightmare is Book #8 in the Amelia Storm Series by Mary Stone. This series turned out to be a fast-moving mix of crime, suspense, and personal drama that was so easy to get hooked on. I have been devouring my way through Ms. Stone’s series/books for a while now, and can always count on her to deliver an engrossing read, and this series didn’t disappoint. The books follow Amelia Storm, a military veteran turned FBI Special Agent, as she tackles dangerous cases that often hit close to home - especially after returning to her corrupt hometown of Chicago. Amelia is the heart of the series. She’s smart, determined, and unafraid to push boundaries, but she’s also human, carrying the weight of past trauma and personal loss. That balance of toughness and vulnerability makes her feel real and very relatable. The pacing is quick, the dialogue sharp, and the settings are vivid enough to pull you right into all the action. Each book works as its own mystery - but reading them in consecutive order lets you see not only Amelia’s growth but also the bigger story threads unfolding over the series. If you like strong female leads, gritty investigations, and thrillers that mix action with emotional depth, then this series is the one for you. Happy Reading…
Not a fan anymore of this series. Ridiculous ending and I just shake my head wondering what this writer is thinking. The guys last victim is a waitress. He somehow finds out where she lives after being served by her, goes to here house, picks the lock then goes inside and waits for her to come home. Did she tell him where she lived or did some mail fall out of her pocket when she was serving him? What the???? Ok, killed her. Let's go back to the restaurant and have a cup of coffee. Meanwhile, three so called experienced fbi agents stroll into the restaurant, see the possible suspect sitting there having a nice cup of coffee with his back turned, so let's just walk up to him without any plan our thinking involved and see how his day is going? Seriously? If the guy stands up, turns and shoots one of them in the gut, why didn't he just keep shooting and take out all three of them? They were apparently oblivious to the situation so just kill them all and put an end to this series and save us all more agony of any more frivolous books. Good bye Mary Stone. Moving on to try and find a better series that won't disappoint me where the characters and the writer might show some actual thought into what's going on.....
Quick read, FBI serial killer mystery with police procedural tropes.
This is an enjoyable book featuring FBI Agent Amelia Storm, with likable secondary characters including her partner, Zane Palmer. The synopsis is well-written but, as presented, it obfuscates the lede. The primary storyline features a series of gruesome murders with bodies found in a junkyard. Subplots include continuing, possibly series-long, story arcs.
The novel opens with a trope: a young female, service-sector worker is abducted, mutilated, and murdered. The serial killer cuts out his victims’ eyeballs, and predictably, he is escalating. Plus, there is a Chicago crime family associated with a junkyard, more tropes.
I like reading lighter, almost-chick-lit mysteries as breaks from hard crime fiction, and this series has interesting, continuing story arcs. In this entry, TBC subplots include the murder of Agent Storm’s brother and a mysterious flash drive from his CI. As with other similar mystery series, the main storyline is resolved at denouement. However, in the last paragraph, up pops a character from an unresolved MISPER story-arc. TBC.
A body has been found in a Leone owned junkyard so the case is assigned to Amelia and Zane. As they begin their investigation, it appears the murder could possibly be mob related. Before it is over several more murders occur and now Amelia and Zane begin to think they have a serial killer on their hands. Now they question whether or not the killer is a serial killer along with having ties to the mob. They will be involved with a surprise takedown.
Zane provided SAC Keaton with enough information on Joseph Larson so that she will be able to take action against Larson. Watch out Larson will be out for revenge.
Amelia also provided Alex Passarelli information that may lead to finding out what happened to his sister, Gianna. Amelia is getting closer to finding her brother’s killer.
I can’t wait for the next book to come out especially after the way it ended. I definitely recommend “Storm’s Nightmare”. It can be read on its own; however, to get the full background and characters, I would start with “Storm’s Fury”, book one.
The next instalment in the Amelia Storm series is another homerun! The reader is pulled into the story with the amazing duo of Amelia and her partner and lover, Zane, on the case of a girl who has been murdered. The victims' body being found in a car on a demolition lot that's linked to a mob family brings more questions to the murder. Is Amelia's ex, who's family has connections to the lot, connected to this case or is a serial murder with a fondness for removing the victims eyes to blame? Meanwhile, Amelia is meeting with an informer who supposedly worked with her brother Treavor before he was killed. He gives her something that may provide answers but also puts her at greater risk. Either way, the case is dangerous and the race is on to solve it before the body count rises. With wonderful characters and a steadily unfolding plot you can't help but fall into this novel and want to help solve the case. 5 out of 5 stars! I received this novel as an ARC. All opinions are entirely my own.
As Amelia and Zane recover from a case that saw Agent Amelia Stone framed for murder by a dirty agent, they are drawn into yet another mafia infused case. Amelia's youthful ties to a Chicago crime family and the murder of her brother Trevor have plagued her since her return to Chicago. Finally, settling into her position as an Organized Crime Agent and enjoying the beginnings of a mire personal relationship with her partner, the reader may be lulled into expecting some normalcy for the agents.
But Amelia has received information and evidence from Trevor's CI. However, before she can act on it, the team is called I to a murder where the victims eyes have Bern removed. The dump site? None other than a "family" backed junk yard and related chop shop. Is this mob retaliation? As the bodies count rises, are the agents searching for clues or a possible opportunistic serial killer?
FBI Special Agent Amelia Storm and her partner Zane Palmer search for a serial killer who uses a mafia junkyard to dispose of his victims. Even while the search for the killer is ongoing, Amelia meets with her brother’s confidential informant who provides a startling connection to Alex Passarelli’s kidnapped sister, Gianna, and the human trafficking network she and Zane have been battling for more than a year. Zane’s CIA contact finally verifies the incriminating photos of Joseph Larson and the pieces begin moving on the chess board. Mary Stone and Amy Wilson have a thriller on their hands. Well-written and fast paced, I could not put it down. Secrets are beginning to be revealed and masks removed. Some may not awaken from this nightmare.
Lets start with the obvious.. the cover is A-mazing, well tough, the fonts, images, pantone well all is but, incredible tell telling without giving all the answers.
Amelia's and her beau Zane are deeper into the Leone's family and someone came forward to help...
The characters are good, Amelia's still unraveling, love her. Zane's there and supports her and at the same time works his secret mission.
The story is a rollercoasters and when you think you had it all, wham... something new. Recommended
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
So this was yet another exciting instalment in the series, the author just adds another dimension each time. At the start I was a bit confused as it took me a while to get back into the 'world of Amelia and Zane' but that didn't last that long.
I loved the easter eggs in this book which is really setting up for the next instalment.
This is not a book that can be read as a standalone but really does need to be read as part of the series - you wont regret it.
I was given an advance copy by the author but this did not impact my review.
Storm and Zane set out on a new mysterious case. Is a serial killer cutting out people’s eyes? Finding a dead body in a junk yard owned by the Leone family, sends the team searching for this diabolical killer. Are the Leone’s dumping bodies there? Eyeless bodies pile up as Storm and Zane search for clues as to who is responsible. He is getting more reckless and escalating quickly. Who is he? Can they find him and bring him to Justice? You have to read this exciting mystery from Mary Stone to discover the answer. Another great read.
Amelia learns the connection between her brother and Stan Young -- the thing that possibly had gotten him killed. But it runs deeper than Amelia thought. It also involves Alex Passarellis, her ex-boyfriend from high school. This information is very dangerous for anyone who is aware of it. Question is what can be done with it? But all this has to take a backseat to another case. A body has been found in a car trunk in a junk yard. The eyes have been removed. Who is she and who is the killer? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Another thrilling addition to the Amelia Storm series. In this episode, Amelia and Zane are on the case of a serial killer who is murdering young girls. She is, also, still looking for her brother’s killer. This is a very exciting series and I’m enjoying it a lot. There’s always plenty of action and suspense. An awesome series. *this honest review is based on a complimentary copy from the authors*
Another great book in the Amelia Storm series. The story catches you at the beginning & doesn’t stop til the end & leaves you still wanting more. Amelia gets some justice for Joseph Larson, but will he come back for revenge? The roller coaster ride solving who this serial killer is brings us back to the Leone crime family, who is relentless in cover ups in the family. What will be next, can’t wait for the next book!
He’s aligned with the mob but he has a side gig and he sees your eyes first. Amelia and Zane catch this new case that is, or is it, connected to the Leone crime family. A perfect dumping ground is exposed when they run behind and don’t crush all their cars on schedule. Why does he cut out their eyes? And how does he select his victims? The clock is ticking and bodies are dropping. Better get busy.
With the revelation of Larson’s long-standing relationship with the me Blobbyist, long before the underaged escort scandal, one operational hurdle is cleared, but Larson will not go into the night quietly. He plans revenge upon both Cassandra and Amelia.
In the meantime, a young serial killer begins decompensating - with the complication that his family is in business with the Leoné crime family.
Amelia Storm is a great character and this series is fascinating as each book has multiple layers and cases/stories that go with it. Zane and other characters are back and as interesting and charismatic as ever. I loved the buildup of the Joseph storyline and can’t wait to see how that changes the actions of that background case and issue. The undercover information was surprising and I am excited to see how it all comes back together! Love this series and can’t wait for the next book.
Storm's Nightmare (Amelia Storm FBI Mystery Series Book 8) by Mary Stone is a fantastically amazing story that I have loved reading. This is book eight in this fantastically amazing series that I was so hooked on since the beginning. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading FBI mystery books.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
this is Gavin’s story very good brings all the guys back in
Amelia and Zane have several murders on their hands and have to tie up the ends of several old plots. This is a great murder mystery but is a little busy with too much other going on. The mystery is great in itself but all the other takes away form the story. First time I ever said that. I would still read the book for the story. Why I gave it a four star.
Mary Stone, you are an amazing storyteller & never disappoint. Book 8 continues the Amelia Storm saga and I could not put it down. Amelia & Zane are after another killer, serial or mob related that is the question. We learn more about the characters in the previous books. Can't wait until the story continues with book 9. I am an ARC member and this is my honest review.
This is another GREAT story by Mary Stone. She just continues to amaze with the plots of her stories, I read this book in one setting. I was so wrapped up in it and could not put it down. Amelia and Zane are after another serial killer. A very vicious one. I recommend this book and the whole series !!!
Storm's Nightmare the eight installment in the Amelia Storm FBI series by Mary Stone is well worth of a five star rating. The characters are well defined and the story line is believable. I recommend Storms Nightmare to all mystery series junkies. I am looking forward to the next installment in the Storm series.
Yet again Mary leaves you waiting for the next book. Just enough romance mixed in with grizzly crime scenes that are apart but play into the narrative of the series. The diverse mobs, the corrupt police as well agents will keep you turning the pages to see how Storm and Zane get out of danger after danger. Can't wait till No 9 comes out.
Gavin is unique for a serial killer. One can almost sympathize. ALMOST! Joseph didn't have much screen time. What's he really up to? Well paced. Two "shatters" towards the end. Michelle's bff/sister, a new character to welcome? Looking forward to the next installment.
I honestly LOVE this series. The characters are impressive in their development and the more I read about them the more I want to keep reading. In this book Amelia Storm and Zane Palmer are trying to find a killer that is taking the eyes of his victims. Will they find him before he does it again? Was this his first or will they find other murder victims?
Read it all in one day only breaking for a meal. The mind is a strange thing. the killer was convinced that certain people who just happened to glance at him needed to die.
The story leaves one wanting to know what happened to a FBI agent and what was coming next.
