TRAPPED: THE PROTECTORS SERIES — BOOK SIX
Former Navy SEAL Gavin Chase, now second-in-command of a Special Ops organization, resumes his cover in a small town in West Virginia to catch an assassin. Further complicating this mission is the woman Chase had met when he was last undercover there, a woman he has not been able to forget, despite time, distance, and his abhorrence for the lies he’d had to tell her to maintain his cover.
When she learns that Gavin Chase is back in town, Rachel Abbott’s heart gives three hard thuds. The first for the man she can’t stop thinking about. The second in anger for his deceit. And the third in dread. While she’d once wanted Chase to return, that time has passed. Chase’s return now threatens the most important person in Rachel’s life, Noah, her son, and the son Chase doesn’t know he has.
But there is more to this mission than Chase knows and when he finds himself on a collision course with his past, Chase will put his life on the line for the woman and child he loves.

These are good suspense books with romance and great characters. Some of the stories carry on over the books (not enough that you have to have read the previous books but it helps). After reading the preview for book 7, I am really looking forward to its release.
I really liked the story and the characters. Gavin had been on an op and while there, he met Rachel. It was hard to leave her when the time came, but he knew he had to do it. When she started a relationship with Gavin, Rachel knew it would be temporary. What she hadn't expected, was to be pregnant and have Gavin ghost her. When he shows back up in town, she isn't ready for him to want to be part of her son's life. Her father was a part-time father when it suited him, and she would not let that happen to her son. Gavin knows that he has to earn Rachel's trust, but he has a mission to complete too. When Rachel gets involved in his mess, he isn't sure that he can have a long-term relationship. They have a lot of things to work out to make their relationship permanent. Can they do it?

The relationship between Gavin and Rachel is one of second chances. Rachel battles between head and heart, Gavin is desperate to claim the woman and the son that he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include Zach Corrigan and Sloane Turner, Hamilton and Lauder, and well as the cameo of several previous story line characters. We are introduced to Rachel’s grandfather Wilf and his girlfriend Violet, and cafe waitress Crystal Hastings. The requisite evil has many faces.
TRAPPED is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and acceptance. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters as energetic, determined and dynamic.
Gavin Chase is a former SEAL who works together with a group of covert operatives undertaking missions both for the private sector and for the government. He is tasked with returning to a small town to apprehend an assassin that had escaped capture on his previous mission there.
Gavin can’t forget the woman, Rachel Abbott, who he spent time with on his previous visit. When they meet again he finds an angry Rachel hiding a big secret. Despite the anger the chemistry is still there and as the danger level rises so do their feels.
The balance of romance and suspense are just right. I really was surprised by the twist in the tail at the end. This has been a great series so far. Each book is a complete story and can be read as a standalone. However reading them in order gives a great insight into the secondary characters who each have their own stories.
I received this book as an ARC. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and all the previous books in the series and the views expressed here are entirely my own.
Another great instalment in the Protector series with Gavin Chase, who had to leave a woman behind while undercover, a woman he couldn’t stop thinking about. His next assignment brings him back to her and is hoping that there could be more between them. Rachel hasn’t seen Gavin in over a year and now he’s back but she’s not going to be be swayed by him and will keep her distance. Even though their time together gave her a son, a son she will do anything to protect…even from Gavin. A great read about second chances with a bit of steam, suspense, twists and turns, surprises and great characters. I liked these two, Gavin does all he can to prove himself and Rachel gives him a run for his money. I liked the twist near the end and how all pieces came together. Would have liked an epilogue to see where these end up…does she move…does he…where do they end up….a glimpse into their future would have rounded off the book perfectly. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
The time that Grant and Rachael shared was meant to be temporary. However, the passions and emotions marked them each much more than anticipated. When circumstances reunite the pair the intensity remains, along with secrets, volatility, recriminations and surprises. Much more is at play, issues that could easily undo any gains that have been made in their renewed relationship. Add in elements of mystery and danger and this romance comes to life. Though part of a series the book reads well as a standalone. The characters have depth, and the plot well developed, creating an engaging story.
I’ve read all of Karen Fenech’s Protector series and once again she has hit the proverbial homerun. Trapped is mesmerizing from start to finish. The anticipation keeps you turning the pages and the intrigue keeps you guessing. The drama, suspense, tension, and heat were perfect. I could not put the book down until I had read it in full. For the first time ever, I had to slow down my reading, my eyes were moving faster than my brain could absorb what was happening.
