Horned Up and Ready to Ride!

In a devastated post-apocalyptic future, Earth is a desolate wasteland. Humanity’s only remaining strongholds are mobile fortress cities called Plantations, defended by giant robots known as FRANXX, who drive back the massive predatory Klaxosaurs that now roam the land. Failed pilot Hiro would be out there fighting them if he hadn’t screwed it all up. But a chance encounter with a mysterious horned girl is about to change the course of his life—and his destiny piloting the FRANXX.

Breasts, Booties, and Bots.

To be honest I knew what I was getting into when I looked for this book. Last year I read a terrible fan translated version of some of the series in the notoriously pirated Darling In The FranXXX: Blue Lock Manga Volume 1 which as I thought then is no longer available on Amazon. Honestly though, considering how many manga books showing up on Kindle Unlimted that are obviously not from a reputable distribution company it makes me wonder if these pirates are actually getting in trouble for trying to sell fan translated works as their own properties.

For those that do not know Amazon has a bit of a policy that frowns upon books of a sexual nature so when I looked to see if I could find it on the Kindle store (cause honestly I don't need something like this series sitting out where who knows can flip through it) and found it lacking in content I decided to try the Google Books app for the first time and discovered it has books Amazon has removed in the past from their site for disagreements with their policies. Thus I decided to pick it up there instead considering even if it was on Kindle it was possible it might be removed from the site later. The reason for my caution in buying an e-book as opposed to a paperback one is the mangaka of this book is in no way embarrassed by exposing their viewers to female anatomies, placing teenagers into compromising positions in the cockpit of giant robots, intimate scenes (but no sex), and plenty of sexual innuendos including the male and female pilots' roles being named after the reproductive parts of plants.

So basically if you are easily offended by the lewd avoid at all costs but if you are into that or just want a story about teenagers piloting mechs in a apocalyptic world against giant monsters (a little bit Gurren Lagann and a little bit Neon Genesis Evangelion) then get ready for a wild ride as our main character discovers what he is really made of when teaming up with a dangerous partner. The art sure is pretty too so nothing wrong with that either. Just be careful who is looking over your shoulder when you are reading. :)

First off great cover art and style, feels very high quality, the books pages are heavy and feel stiffer than average manga pages. 4 full color pages for both volumes 1 & 2 adds a great touch.

Great concept for the story, setting, character building etc. feels like a familiar story and concepts I’ve seen in other series, but I don’t mind here. I like the full uncensored goodness that comes with this, for me if they censor nipples in a series like this then I don’t want to continue. I like how Hiro and Zero Two interact. It’s very intriguing overall, great action, good echii/fanservice content - I’m sold!!

Awaiting next volumes lol

This is a tough one. The story we have seen a thousand times: monsters are threatening the city and the city can only be defended by mechs (called Franxx) piloted by teenagers. The Franxxs can only be piloted by two teens, one male (the stamen) and one female (the pistle). This conceit is a thinly veiled excuse to pour on sexual inuendo and lots of fan service.

In and of itself, this isn't a bad idea. Really, what's there not to like? Kaiju, mechs and boobs? It's got to be great, right? Well, for some reason it really doesn't work. The story is pretty, "meh" and I think at the end of the day the sexy stuff felt cheap and pandering to this fan. Again, it sounds like a perfect formula, but it really doesn't work. The art is great, the fan service is top notch so it may be worth a read to some just for that.

God this is fucking garbage but for some reason I love it.

They honestly could not decide whether they wanted to make this a hentai or not...then remember they are teenagers and just went for over sexualised and not full blown sex.

Volumes 1 and 2 purely just explain wtf the Franxx are for. Shock horror, big "sexy" mechs fight big dumb monsters.

Watched the anime, got this because manga usually have a more in-depth story. Unnecessary nudity.

i love the dystopian/sci-fi aspect of darling in the franxx, i just find the nudity incredibly uncomfortable and unnecessary...sticking to the anime.

This manga can't decide if it's hentai or actual story.

On the real though this is basically just like Pacific Rim/EVA mixed with a lot of T & A action. In this world to pilot these robots that look humanoid you must make a connection with your partner in the cockpit. Sounds simple enough. Except the girl is on all fours with her ass sticking out and the guy is in the seat behind her, but the position of the camera angles sure makes it look...suggestive.

So our main hero seems to have a problem "connecting". He can't seem to have sexua--Mind connection and tus making him feel useless. Till one day a girl named 02 come along and mid attack decides to kiss him in the cockpit, giving him the motivation he needs to work together with her to pilot the robot.

The story itself is fine if not done a million times before. But the fact this manga feels the need to show multiple girls ass and tits in bare, for no reason sometimes. Like a shot of a girl getting dressed, a bathhouse with all the girls naked and in color, and everything the robots get electrocuted we have to show the girls bare naked getting electrified while their boobs giggle.

Listen, I'm not a prude. I like boobs and ass as much as the next guy/gal. But the unnecessary amount is just annoying. To the point this is the type of manga people who don't want to read manga cause of the fanservice would probably point out as trash and why they don't read manga, and sadly I can't even blame them.

This isn't awful but I'm not tempted to pick up the next right away or anything. A 2.5 out of 5.

I am strictly rating this based off of the fact that I have already watched the anime, and the art is beautiful. It’s gets one single star because the art is top notch for manga. And BECAUSE I watched the anime, I figured: hey, I’ll pick the manga up and see if they delve into the story a bit more. Because I liked the anime. I thought there were aspects to it that they could’ve fleshed out more and could give more depth.

In a sense, the manga both failed and successfully did that very thing I was looking for. But they achieved this in the worst way possible in my opinion. The fan service in this manga is horrendous. There are subjects they touch on in the anime that make your realize this saga is a coming-of-age story, where the Sages lied and you realize they’ve raised these children—called Parasites—for slaughter, brainwashing them into becoming soldiers that never grow up. This particular squad we follow through the story begins to push the boundaries of their world by their experiences, asking questions, and that’s what makes the story really good.

Yeah, the art is absolutely gorgeous. But I question anyone who wants to read this series where there is blatant nudity and sexualization of CHILDREN.

It was my mistake to pick up a wrapped volume. I figured it was only going to touch on the lake scene between our two protagonists, as it does in the anime. But no, it doesn’t stop there. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

Overall

Well this was an interesting read I think a few years ago I watched about eight episodes of the anime and thought it was a little bit weird but now reading the manga it is really weird. They are from 14 to 15 years old seriously the manga has non-stop showing of them naked WTF what was this author thinking and I get it Japan's weird. But this is published in America for Americans to read either way doesn't matter it's still weird. Now the storyline I liked I liked what was going off the story that's why I finished it so I read it I just still a little bit weirded out bottle but the story is there the story is there I probably will finish the anime but like I just don't know I just don't know personally

This is a manga I'm reading after watching the anime many moons ago, I really enjoyed the anime, but the last 3rd really dropped off for me, so I've wanted to see how the manga ends. So far, it's been pretty good and has me as excited as the anime did! Fingers crossed it stays this good all the way till the end!

Not what I had hoped for at all. I saw the first episode and loved it so I waited for this publication. Much more erotic and sexually focused than I had anticipated. A new art I had not had much experience with. Going back to the anime in hopes of it being different than the books 1 and 2.

I am so torn on this one because I really enjoyed the plot but the fan service kept taking me out of the story. Not to mention they look super young 🫠 just felt like an unnecessary distraction from an otherwise fun story.
