A land plagued in darkness. One woman who carries the weight of the sun.
In her twenty-three years of life, Shailin Srijan has never ventured past the mortal confines of her remote Scottish village. Working solely as her brother’s keeper and avoiding the small-town gossip of villagers, she’s never thought to question the mundane reality of her existence – until her brother’s condition suddenly worsens and all hope seems lost. Reeling at the thought of losing the only family she’s ever known, Shailin hastily agrees to her mother’s farfetched proposal: enter into the Immortal realm to face the greatly feared and equally mysterious Vampire King, who happens to owe the Srijans a life debt.
The Immortal is just as enigmatic as it is ethereally alluring, and left without any other viable options, Shailin has no choice but to honor her mother’s wishes and make for the magical lands. Only once there, she finds herself thrust into a dying world of indefinite darkness and legendary monsters that have taken permanent residence in a kingdom without daylight. Even more unexpected than the realm’s unconventional nocturnal splendor is the presence of Axton, a masked vigilante also traveling to the ruler’s castle. Though Shai knows better than to trust a man with a secret, she can’t help the budding attraction that only heightens as an unlikely relationship forms between the two.
Upon facing King Ezrium, Shailin will have to unravel a startling truth that upends the life she’s always known and decide whether she wishes to conform or pave her own way in a world of magic and mayhem.

Set in a world without sun, Isle of the Immortal follows Shailin as she ventures into the Immortal Lands to find a cure for her dying brother. It is there she meets Axton, a rogue who agrees to help her in a life debt from the Vampire King. The plot–as you likely guessed from reading the synopsis–was rather predictable. The author spent a good deal of time foreshadowing an event that was obvious from reading the synopsis, yet I still picked up the book knowing how it would end.
The romance in this novel was well crafted, and Axton and Shailin had great chemistry. Though there was instant trust, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic played out well. It never felt like the relationship was rushed, despite the focus of the story around the romance. My problem with this book came from the fact that neither characters were complex, and that they both had little motivation for doing anything. Since there wasn’t a villain in the story, the focus is put even more on the complexity of the main characters, so to be an amazing story, Axton and Shailin needed to be more interesting. Frankly, nothing set them apart from other characters in the fantasy romance genre.
That being said, this was an enjoyable book to read in an afternoon. It checked all the boxes for a fantasy romance: enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, one bed, and knife to the throat. Isle of the Immortal was fun to read, even if it didn’t stand apart from other books in the genre.

For now, here is a preview to what the review will look like:
❀❀❀❀
When the life of her brother is on the line, Shailin sets off on an adventure to save him, all the way to the Isle of Immortals. Alone and defenseless except for a knife giving to her by her mother and a ring that is meant to help her, she sets off on this journey only to come across an annoying yet handsome stranger, Axton.
I gave Isle of the Immortal four stars, enjoying the dynamics between Shai and Axton. I found them adorable together and just loved that their relationship was… [ continue reading ]
I love books that instantly capture your attention, and Isle of the Immortal did just that. The female heroine was relatable and sassy, and it was super entertaining. The plot was intriguing and just made me want to read as fast as I could to find out what happened! We all love a morally grey male main character 😏 looooove love love Axton!!!
Imagine a book where Alina and Darkling end up together and both of them have personalities strongly resembling Poppy and Casteel!
I have to start by saying, this book is a work of art. The story is woven with pure magic and the lyrical writing makes it almost come to life. The Scottish interludes warmed my I love Jamie Fraser heart and I was obsessed! Stephanie did a spectacular job with this book and I see her being a successful fantasy writer!
Axton enamoured me with his roguish ways and his flirting banter. Shai made me adore her by being so empathetic, kind and willing to fight for her loved ones. Bandit was such a good boy. The story was very enjoyable and I wish it was longer, maybe even a duology. The overall vibe was very reminiscent of Blood and Ash and also of the Grishaverse and I didn't know I needed that until now! The plot was most of the time predictable but it's hard to surprise me. Nonetheless, there were a lot of plot twists even I didn't expect.
The spice of this book was in the new adult category with a few scenes but not very explicit language. I would definitely appreciate more of it, but I will only say two things. Library table. Knife play. Do what you want with that information. 👀
I have to mention a few kinks I hope the author takes as constructive criticism coming from my heart. The pacing of the book was occasionally all over the place, mostly at the end, it moved at such a rapid speed I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I wish I could have. The MCs' love was beautiful but a little too close to insta love for my liking. I still have the sense of unanswered questions and sometimes the occurrences of the plot perplexed me.
3.5 stars ✨
Thank you, BookSirens and S.M. Estrada, for the ARC. I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an enjoyable read with a fantastic world building. Apart from the characters, it was what I loved the most about this book. I loved Axton and Shailin, their chemistry and their banter were perfect, the romance wasn’t rushed and I enjoyed it, especially first half of the book. Writing style and descriptions were also brilliant.
That said, the book was tad predictable to me. I rarely guess plot twists correctly but I was right about this one - but maybe it’s just me. I’d also love if we learned more about the brother - perhaps through flashbacks? Shailin’s main (and only) motivation to meet the king was to save her brother, and yet we barely learned anything about him.
Lastly, one of my favorite things about this book is that it doesn’t really have a villain, and thus it feels so much more real.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book, especially to fans of Blood and Ash.

I'd like to thank Book Sirens for sending me a free e-copy of this book in exchange for my free and honest opinion/review. - Oh. My. God. WOW. WOW WOW WOW WOW. I won't lie. The beginning lost me. BUT THE REST OF THIS BOOK. GOT ME BACK AGAIN ON MY 2ND TRY. - The plot points (or at least the big one within the first 200 pages) is extremely guessable. BUT. Boy oh boy the way it was written made you feel good you'd guessed it and want to carry on reading (unlike a few experiences I've had with easy to guess plot points). The first few are like this, but nearing the end I couldn't see as many of them coming- which is good because it makes me want to read the rest of what I'm guessing will be a series (but could honestly last as a standalone if not for a few loose ends).
The characters are REALLY likeable. REALLY. Definitely would say hang on and stick with it through any confusing moments (I had a couple) because the overall product is SO worth it!
Thank you to @smestrada and Book Siren for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for a honest review. This book releases in just a few days.
Shailin has been thrust into a world of darkness on the Isle of the Immortal and has no idea how to navigate it. She needs to get to the Vampire King, Ezrium, to help save her brother for a sickness that her mother and her could not save him from. She stumbles upon a sexy stranger, Axton, that she is both drawn to and weary of.
The chemistry between Axton and Shailin is off the charts, and their banter is hilarious and hot. Shailin is feisty. Axton is powerful, yet vulnerable. While I loved all the teasing and banter between Shailin and Axton, we don't get a sex scene until about 80% of the way through the book. I just wanted more action. 😉
All the information that Shailin learns about her family while on the Isle kept my interested. I felt all the emotions while reading this book. There is humor, mystery, magic, and romance.
If I could give this book SIX spicy Scottish stars, I would.
☆ Lyrical writing with a dark backdrop of an isle with no daylight.
☆ The author wastes no time in capturing your attention. The protagonist is immediately faced with a life altering decision: embark on a journey to the enigmatic Vampire King to save her younger brothers life or remain in the confines of her Scottish village, free of risk.
☆ I’ve never met a Scottish vampire I didn’t love.
☆ TROPES: The classic enemies to lovers trope, what’s not to love? *chefs kiss* We also have ye olde enemies share a bed at an inn trope.
☆ A young woman thrust into a land of utter darkness with the goal of saving her younger brothers life. She happens upon a masked vigilante. Cue: enemy.
☆ Guarantee: Axton will set your loins aflame. 🥵
Overall, this book was both a joy and thrill to read. Relatable characters set in a world plagued with darkness. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!
I'm a sucker for fantasy romance. I'll say that in every review I write in the genre, and I'm going to re-iterate it here. If it involves magic, otherworld's, fantasy creatures and romance? I'm there. Isle of the Immortal was no exception. I was pulled in right from the get-go, and couldn't put it down once I started.
This is my first book by S.M. Estrada, who seems like a fairly new author. I, for one, hope she keeps writing (and definitely am hoping for more of this story)
Shailin, a seemingly normal human girl, is thrust by her mother into the dark world of The Immortal, hoping to find a way to save her sick and ailing brother. But she finds much more than she was looking for in Axton, her hero/enemy/infuriating guide.
STORYLINE: I loved the story. I think it was really sweet and made quite an easy read. I would have loved to have more danger, maybe a strong antagonist, but the fact that a future antagonist was hinted at gives me hope for more books in this series. Otherwise, the story was well thought out, beautiful and moved at a quick pace (maybe that's just because I was devouring it).
WORLDBUILDING: I LOVE the world that S.M. Estrada has built. A kingdom of darkness, frigid cold and otherworldly. She did a wonderful job painting the picture for me to see the characters in.
"the one island that happens to be populated by buildings and fenced in entirely by short rock walls to keep the high tide at bay. I beam in surprise at the small cottages surrounded by wafting chimney smoke. The island is slightly larger than most others we’ve seen, but likely has a minimal populace, and yet, the crowd that notices the boat on the tide seems to grow and grow as people gather to wave as we pass."
CHARACTERS: Obviously, I dig the whole I loved Axton from the moment he was first introduced, but of course I also love the "bad boy" vibe. I think the other minor characters (Hernandon, Alista, Calia and Jayd) were well written, well developed characters who didn't feel like just background noise. I would have loved to learn more about some of them, but again, here's hoping for another book!
Overall, this is an excellent fantasy romance who I recommend whole heartedly if that's your jam. I'll be here waiting not-so-patiently for the next book to come out already!
I received this book as an ARC from Book Sirens for my honest review. The thoughts and opinions in this review are strictly my own.
“You’re saying, you wouldn’t have slapped me had you known it was my hands all over you? Good to know.”

Shailin lives in a small Scottish village, working as her near-to-death brothers carer. When yet another doctor says there is nothing they can do, their mother gets desperate and asks her how far she would go to save her brothers life. Shailin, who knows nothing of the immortal realm except the tales told of vampires in the night, is plunged deep inside the realm to collect a debt owed to her family by the Vampire King. Once in the realm, she finds herself in a land of forever darkness, where crops cannot grow and the creatures grow starving. Even more unexpected is the appearance of Axton, a masked man whom she attacks with a knife, offering to help her on her journey.
I really loved this book. Axton and Shailin were both incredible characters, and their witty comments to each other, and the way they bounced off each other constantly was the making of this book. I’ve never, in all my books read (which is a lot), found a pair that were so easy to love when they wound each other up, and almost killing each other too! Although I guessed who Axton was before all was revealed, the novel held my interest all the way through. It had me laughing loads!
I have no negatives about this book, with the exception that it’s a standalone. I would love to see more of Shailin and Axton, as well as Shailin’s brother, who just disappeared leaving unanswered questions towards the end. I think a sequel to this would be pretty amazing, so pretty please with a cherry on top?
Fantasy Romance has recently become one of my favourite genres, and S.M. Estrada has got a talent for this genre! Really recommend for anyone looking for an escapism read.
I loved and enjoyed this book from the beginning till the end. The book has become one of my favourite Standalones.
The story starts witha twenty three years old, Shailin travelling to the Isle of Immortals with the hope of saving her dying brother. Her mother gave her an emerald ring that would protect her and asked to seek help from the Vampire King Ezrium who owed a debt to her family. She came to realise that the land is eternal darkness with the Moon high in the starless sky. Shailin encounters a stranger, masked vigilante who claims to do business with the King. But Shailin didn't trust him and questions him about the place around them. They both travelled and explored small villages. Soon, Hate turns to Love. When she finally came face to face with the Vampire King, but she didn't except a betrayal from one person she came to trust and it shutters her heart in a million pieces. King Ezrium reveals her a truth, that made her world upside down in a second.
Now she questions everything she knows of, don't know who to trust anymore. Caught between love, hate and betrayal, Would she finally accept what fate had already decided for her or Would she doom the people she loves to save her brother ??
The story was really intriguing and Interesting. The world building is soo different and the characters are perfect. I love Shailin and Axton. This book made me to feel happy, angst, angry, pain, betrayals, lies and of course I laughed and swooned. The romance and tension is just "chefs kiss".
-Slow burn -Grumpy/Sunshine -One bed -One horse -Vampires and Humans -Betrayal and lies -Hurt/Comfort -Fated mates

This book has jumped to the top of the list for my favorite read of 2022. First thought was, "Oh perfect another morally grey man for me to fall in love with," and he did not disappoint! *chef's kiss* So many elements felt like they had been custom ordered just for me. Adult characters, enemies to lovers, fantastic banter including a couple lines that I will be re-reading and fangirling over for years to come, more tension than I could've dared hope for, and well timed sprinkles of spice. I adored the world building. It was really well done as it was informative and creative without slowing down the overall plot. I am also pleased that it's a stand alone story, so there is a satisfying conclusion without having to wait years for resolution. Of course, now that I've fallen in love with these characters, I'd love to see a sequel someday. I will finish by saying that although I was able to read this for free, the story meant so much to me that I also pre-ordered my own hard copy. I cannot wait to hold it in my hands and read it all over again.
A stand-alone PNR novel that is not part of a series in year 2022? This for real? Does they still write this kind of stuff? I thought it wasn’t doable anymore?
I’d say, yes and yes. And I decided that S.M Estrada is a hero because she managed to do just that. She nailed it with this Isle of the Immortal. That’s why.
How the author managed to pull of Shailin character as a strong heroin, given her clueless fighting/surviving skill or lack there of, in the deadly supernatural realm no less, is beyond me. Armed only with determination as her strongest suit, she’s marching her way to get to King Ezrium, who she was led to believe is her only hope to save her dying brother, Hendron. Along the way to the vampire king’s castle, she formed an unlikely alliance with an alluring stranger who goes by the name Axton. Shailin would do anything for Hendron even if that means she had to trust Axton blindly.
I’m so grateful to be given a chance to brag about how great this book was. This one right here, is a small token from me for the free copy I received. Thank you, BookSirens.
I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you both, S.M. Estrada and BookSirens for the ARC.
I can only pray that the devil I know is better than the one I don’t.
The book starts with our main protagonist embarking on a quest to find help for his brother - who’s on the brink of death, no one can find a cure. The protagonist, Shailin, really grew on me, she’s tough when needed and I admire her bravery and good heart.
I will not let this bully of a faceless man make me feel inferior for not understanding a world I am not part of when he hides behind a cloth.
Loved how fierce she can be ~
Some of her interactions with Axton I found quite… I’m not sure, I guess I prefer when the “enemies to friends/lovers” part is a bit more slow-paced? I felt they met and the next day they were already flirting here and there. Don’t get me wrong! I love LOVE LOVE the banter, it’s delicious to read and I really thought it was well written, the author has a way with words. Maybe would have liked it if they stayed as enemies for a bit longer? but that's just my preference. :)
Anyways, all in all, I truly enjoyed this book, it took me a lot to finish because I'm having reader’s block again so I have to make myself read these days… :(
I really enjoyed the worldbuilding of this story and the night atmosphere preswnt throught the Isle.
However, I feel like the story lackes a bit plot-wise; once the romance set in, it seemed that the main goal was forgotten until the last 10% of the book. Then, the plot and the main goal just happen in the last several pages, but I feel like almost none of that felt deserved.
I also felt that the witch sub-plot was not fleshed out or threathening as it should have been.
BUT! I think the romance was quite sweet towards the end. I didn't feel the chemistry up until 50% of the romance arc, but once we were past enemies phase, I really began to like it.
All in all, it was a decent read and I think this is a good stand-alone to pass your time
(I received an ARC copy of this from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily)
Isle of the Immortal by S.M. Estrada is about a young woman, Shailin, with little choice has to enter the Immortal realm in search of something to heal her dying brother. She must find the feared Vampire King in hopes that he will have answers. But this Immortal realm is filled with darkness and monsters that she's only ever heard from stories told in her mortal village.
It's an adult fantasy romance with the wonderful enemies to lovers trope, forced proximity, found family, strong female lead, relatable characters, great banter and...um one horse trope? Yea that's always a good one!
This book hooked me from the start. Shailin is a fierce, headstrong woman - and I love her for it. She recognizes the emotions swirling in the depths of her heart, voices them to herself, and she makes it so easy for the reader to understand why she acts the way she does. And Axton - now there's a man who's willing to do what he can to save his kingdom. Axton has some beautiful depth to his character, and is willing to show his emotions. It is so easy to fall for Axton. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is well-written, toys with your emotions, has just enough spice, and leaves you satisfied at the end.
***** I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review *****
I really loved this book. I stayed up way too late last night with the whole -- just one more chapter….ok just one more chapter. I couldn't put it down. When I had to function in actual real life my mind kept going back to the book. I am going to go read it again because I want to go back and see all the clues I didn't peace together until later.
I loved Axton and Shai's chemistry. I love how they tease each other, and also compliment each other. She was just the right amount of independence and strength, and he was just the right amount of protectiveness with out being overbearing. The pace was just right, the world building was artfully laid out and easy to understand. The mysteries of the who's and the what's were not at all what I thought they would be. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
First of all i'm in love with this cover , i mean just look at it , it's gorgeous 😍
As for the book itself , I enjoyed it for the most part , but there was nothing special about this story or fantasy world
I was however excited to learn that this is not the last story in the Immortal universe , so i'll look forward to the next book bc there is a character i would like to know more about
I had a great time reading this book. The writing style, the world building, and the characters were all really interesting. I loved the enemies-to-lovers romance between the main characters. It gave me some FBAA vibes, which I love. (omg and the library scene!) A few criticisms would be that the plot was a little predictable and the book could’ve been longer in order to flesh out the story & character development. However, it kept me hooked from start to finish!
this had the vibe of a random book you read once in middle school and forgot all about but you remember really loving it if that makes sense lol
i spent like 50% of this book swooning 🥺🥺🥺 like so many things just seemed so effortless and organic it was great. for a stand-alone the pacing was literally amazing, i cant believe so much happened in only 300 pages but none of it felt rushed at all
i’m assuming there will be more books written in this world tho bc some things were a bit open ended? that’s the only thing i’m confused about tbh
i enjoyed this fantasy romance book by S. M. Estrada, the story was really well done and I enjoyed going through the story. The characters were interesting and I was never bored.

Isle of the Immortal is about a twenty-three year old woman forced to meet the Vampire King from a distance land in order to save her younger brother.
What's interesting is half the book is focused on traveling and the second half, once she's reached her destination, is focused on learning about the Vampire King, learning more about the magic, etc. The two halves of the book almost have a different feel to them. That being said, I personally preferred the second half more.
The writing was extremely detailed and it's clear the author has great talent for describing settings and landscapes. I also quite enjoyed the romantic element in this book. It felt organic and not forced.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Ya'll! This book!! If you are a sucker for a good paranormal romance this is definitely the book for you! The universe is so beautifully written, the storyline is so unique and you're gonna want Shai and Axton as your new best friends. I was so intrigued by the story that I could hardly put it down! I highly recommend this book for the lovers of Vampires and romance.
This is S. M. Estrada’s debut adult fantasy novel and it’s a home run! I knew within the first handful of chapters that I was going to love the story and having binge read the whole book within a day that gut instinct was not wrong.
This book is well written, with stunning world building and unforgettable characters. Set in a world of darkness and magic where fate has interwoven an unbreakable web. Shailin and Axton find themselves thrown together travelling the same road albeit for different reason for an audience with Vampire Kind. While I didn’t find them quite so convincing as enemies, they are definitely unlikely allies. The chemistry between the two is tantalising, and who doesn’t like a bit of banter?!
For someone that’s lived a sheltered mortal existence all of her life, Shailin is determined, defiant strong in the face of adversity. With a reckless streak that is. Axton, the thief that’s sure to steal your heart is arrogant and self-assured while also being the dependable constant for Shailin throughout her journey.
I found this book absolutely captivating, with it’s storytelling quality, and such a unique setting that for most of it I forgot I was reading and just lost myself to the words. Oh and for anyone wondering, there is spice! Not a lot but enough to perfectly balance out the build up of chemistry between H and h. Do I wish there was more? Yes. Am I happy with the amount there was? Also Yes! Like every other element in this book, there’s a balance and too much of one element would have thrown out that balance. So no complaint there. My only gripe is that it’s not enough! S.M. Estrada did such a great job of this standalone that I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters. That said I can’t wait to see what the next book in the series has to offer. Hoping to see more adult books form the author! Also for anyone interested there’s a pre-order incentive for this book (link on authors insta).
Perfect for fans of The Bridge Kingdom, FBAA and ACOTAR.
I was lucky enough to get and ARC from BookSirens.
Imagine if From Blood and Ash and Shadow & Bone had a love child, it would be this book. It's a standalone (i think?) and while the characters do lack a little depth, the plot and the story still captures your attention right away. The plot jumps straight into action and Shai's quest to save her brother, and I loved the way she approached the Isle and its peculiarity with such wonder and innocence.
At the center of this story is the romance between Axton and Shai, and I was absolutely in LOVE. I feared it would be insta-love (given the short deadline for her quest) but their relationship became more complicated than expected, and i liked the way it was done. Axton has a way with words that had me swoooooning omg!!
Overall, this was a sweet, spicy, (almost) fairytale romance. A perfect book to read on a gloomy afternoon to make you feel warm and fuzzy. It was also very quick and easy to read, which made it all the more better. My only complaint and why it's not 5 stars is mostly due the lack of character and world development, but since this was a short standalone, it's not that big of a deal and doesn't affect the plot itself, nor the chemistry between our two main characters.
Plot: 4⭐️ Characters: 5⭐️ I loved Axton so much!!!! Spice: 🌶.5 Romance: 4636737273 ⭐️
Thank you Booksirens for giving me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ♥️
I received an e-ARC via BookSirens in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.
Honestly, I was hooked on the story from the beginning. The book has a lot of clichés for a fantasy romance, but still loved it. It has all the good tropes, enemies-to-lovers, one bed and "forced marriage".
That being said, the book focuses on Shailin's journey through the Isle of the Immortals, a world of fantastic beings where the sun hasn't shined for over a decade. Early on her journey, she meets Axton, who will help her get to the vampire king's castle, in order to find a cure for her brother's illness.
The chemistry between the two was perfect! In fact, I was expecting something completely different, with a villain vampire king or something like it and went completely aside. But in a good way! I loved these two and they are the highlight of the whole book!
However, the three stars were due to the fact that the main reason this whole trip gets a bit sidelined when the dynamic between Shailin and Axton comes into play. Honestly, at the beginning of the book there was an urgency to save her brother, urgency that gets lost in the middle of the book and who took away some of the main purpose of the entire mission. This is reinforced with the final scene, it didn't feel right.
However, I loved the whole story behind the ring Shailin wears and I wish I had more depth about this world of immortals. But maybe it's something to explore in future books.
I was provided and ARC of this book by Book Sirens, in exchange for an honest review.
Once in a while you find a gem of a book, from an author you don’t know. This is that book for me, it was surprising, unique, and hooked me in the first 50 pages. For fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses, this will be a fast enjoyable read.
What would you give up to save the one person you love more than anything? Would you risk everything you have ever known for a chance to save the brother who has always accepted you?
Shailin has lived an average life in the mortal realm, only hearing tales of the immortal realm. With her brother growing sicker each day she is given one last hope to save him. But to do so means learning about her history, a history she has been told nothing about.
As she sets out to cross into the immortal lands she comes face to face with Axton. Is he what he appears to be? Is he a friend or foe? The answer to that will either save Shailins brother, and a world she knew nothing about, or it will irrevocably change the course of the future forever.
This adult fantasy weaves two separate world together beautifully, and develops the characters believably. Shailins quick tongue will never get old.
I hope there are more books to come in this marvellous world.
