Life for Sterling the vampire is sweet in sleepy Silveropolis. Blood is in easy supply with college kids and cryptid hunters swarming the town for mountain madness, an annual search for an elusive creature known as Smallfoot.
But another corpse is discovered in the woods. Are the Everetts back? Is it a ritual killing, or a random murder? With the help of a brooding journalist and a jealous storm god, Sterling must investigate before it’s too late. The victim was staked through the heart, after all.
Hi, I'm Nazri, a Filipino-Malaysian author based in California. I’m trilingual, but I really only write in English. I can also speak just enough Sindarin and Valyrian to impress absolutely no one. My urban fantasy novels focus on realistic heroes who use wits, style, and their wildly unpredictable magic to (try) and save the day. Think sass and class, while kicking ass.
My influences come from horror and fantasy: HP Lovecraft, Anne Rice, George R.R. Martin, Chuck Palahniuk, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman. Growing up I was shaped by the Blood Sword, Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf, and Grey Star game book universes. I'm also inspired by video games, specifically the Castlevania, Final Fantasy, and Persona series.
TL;DR: I'm a huge nerd. And yes, that's my real hair. I try to donate it to the American Cancer Society as often as I can. Also, have you heard? You can get a free book at www.NazriNoor.com.
I like Sterling. Who was once again drooling over more pretty faces. I'm a little confused about his feeling toward some of these people he's drooling over, but that's not really the point of the book, I guess. He is just a really fun character though. Cocky and quippy and flirty, but generally lovable and competent enough to back it up.
Speaking of fun characters, I love Vilmas. I really do. He's so weird. And a seemingly old and powerful enough vampire that he can be that way, and what's anyone gonna do about it? He can turn into blood mist, good luck fighting him. Anyway, he doesn't care, he's too busy being in the throes of his second orgasm of the night. Honestly, the exaggerated voice the audiobook narrator gives him makes his character even better.
But I gotta say, these guys are terrible detectives. They try, but so far, they are 0 for 2. They haven't really figured out anything, the answers just sorta came to them both times. But there's always silly or entertaining stuff happening while they try, so I don't mind.
Like last time, the audiobook, narrated by Nick Podehl, was fantastic! He brings Sterling to life so well. Vilmas too. All the characters really. A few are a bit over-the-top, but the characters are over-the-top and a bit silly, so it works.
Overall, another book that was enjoyable and a lot of fun and just the kind of book that makes you want to keep reading (or listening)!
Recommended For: Fans of Book 1 in Nazri Noor's Vampire Vigilante series. Anyone who likes snappy paranormal/urban fantasy, vampires, conversational POV, nice friendships, and characters who are flirty, quippy, and fun.
It's 'Mountain Madness' a weekend in Silveropolis where paranormal fanatics head to the woods in search of the elusive Smallfoot. When a body is found with signs of a ritual killing, Sterling, Gil and Asher go on the hunt for the killer. Another fun, fast paced Urban fantasy from Nazri Noor. Looking forward to the next in this series.
Nazri Noor’s Thirst Trap is an action packed and fun look into Sterling’s life (such as it is since he is a vampire), and the people in it. I love the way that Sterling goes off on his little reminiscences and other comments. Vilmas is definitely becoming more interesting as he takes a slightly bigger role in Sterling’s life and wait until you get to the party. And nope, I could not figure out who the ‘bad’ guy was. The end was a fun surprise for me. To sum things up, I just love reading Nazri Noor’s books because the plots are great, the characters are interesting and the prose just seems to flow effortlessly. You will love this book too!
This is another fun novel from Sterling's P.O.V. I love the way the characters relationships continue to develop and their lives interlock. Sterling and gang are faced with a couple of mysteries in this book. Who or what is Smallfoot? How many vampire hunters are there in Silveropolis? And how do you get that cute boy's number? As always the mix of mundane and paranormal keep the plot moving forward with a hefty side of signature Noor snark. Definitely a good way to ring in the new year!
So glad Sterling got his own series. Loved him from the beginning in the Darkling Mage series. We get to really know him in this one. So much sass and lol moments. My favorite is when he describes a particular heist scene. Couldn’t stop laughing. For anyone who loves vampires who step it up a notch this one’s for you. Nazri builds a world full of awesome characters you just fall in love with and can’t wait to see what they do next.
This book of Nazri's was a trap for sure, because as soon as I picked it up, I didn't want to put it down. Sterling, vampire extraordinary, was once again a super hero in a dorky kind of way. Sterling, Gil and Asher are still in the small mountain town that almost took them down in the last book. Thinking they could relax, they should have known better. A dead man who was staked through the heart starts Sterling thinking of vampire hunters, but this man was human, so what's the deal? It takes awhile to convince others that they should be thinking along those lines. Sterling also is dreaming of learning blood magic and wants to enlist Vilmas's, a vampire who knows magic, aide in learning. Of course he has to cough up a payment first and that is to get the blood of three important beings. Who is Sterling going to ask for the blood? Sterling meets a newspaper reporter in his quest for information about the dead man and Roth, the thunder god, is jealous as he is attached to Sterling as they share immortality. Others join in as the investigate if there are vampire hunters and if there really is a "Little Foot" running around in the forest. A witch, unicorns, magic, vampire hunters, Little Foot, tea parties, wooden...and unicorn?...stakes and some magic makes for a great story that paranormal readers are going to enjoy. There is an HFN as it is a continuing series and I for one can't wait until the next one comes out. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
Vampire Sterling's life is sweet in SIlveropolis - blood is easy to get as there are plenty of college students and cryptid hunters in the town for mountain madness (an annual search for some elusive creature known as Smallfoot). But yet another corpse is found in the woods which makes the friends wonder if the Everetts are back to make it some kind of ritual killing or was it a random murder? They get the help of a brooding journalist as well as the storm god (who seems to be jealous!) but Sterling really needs to investigate this before it is too late as the victim was staked through the heart. It is becoming clear that a vampire hunter has come to Silveropolis. Can they solve the case and stay alive?
I loved this story which added a new dimension of danger for Sterling (even though he was his usual self with very little sense of self-preservation and certainly at times no filter on his thoughts nor his words). I loved their interactions with all of the magical people and the unicorn tea party was just SO much fun. (but next time I want to be invited!). There were several twists and it was fun to find them and experience the changes in the story around those areas. I enjoyed the expansion of the role that vampire Valmas had and look forward to that being expanded in further books in the series. Easy to read and understand.
First, as normal, I already started the next and I finished this days ago. On top of that, I was also reading another book with a vampire and snark so... Plus, reading another one that has paranormal investigators... Trying to keep them all separate.
Overall, I liked this. Nothing amazing but it had its fun moments. Liked getting to know the side characters more. This one did feel more like I was missing something, though, with this being a spin-off. Still didn't feel like anything vital at least.
I appreciated that the reporter (can't remember his name and can't find it here) that Sterling was interested in for research purposes only! wasn't . Don't think that would have boded well for future books. I did like how that went about with him specifically, even if he was annoying at first.
Definitely need to work on their "detective" skills...
But Smallfoot...! That was great.
Nick Podehl did a great job here. Helped that I was more used to the voice that he used for Sterling and some female characters. But I appreciate how each character has their own unique voice (even if some are annoying, lol).
I'm too mixed up with the books right now so I'm going to leave this here and possibly add/edit later (but probably won't).
Much to mouthy vampire Sterling’s annoyance, it’s Mountain Madness Week in Silveropolis and the town is crawling with college dudes intent on finding supernatural creatures. Even worse, someone is taking this a bit too far and staking potential vampires. With his ever-growing posse, which now includes Gil (surly werewolf), Asher (naive necromancer), Roth (Norse god of Thunder and electrician) and Tabitha (ninja witch with attitude), Sterling must track down the killer before they strike again.
There are loads of interesting and creative ideas here and I enjoy the humour and zany characters in this series, but I felt this urban fantasy spun its plot-wheels at times while the characters faffed about a lot for comedic purposes—I’ve had to adjust my expectations and just enjoy the chaotic journey. Sterling again flirts wildly, breaking hearts but not getting serious about anyone = not a romance. The plot is actually moving forward quite fast in places and I’m excited to see where it goes. 🎧 Nick Podehl really is thoroughly entertaining here, he gives all the characters their own voices and hits the action and comedic notes perfectly.
You know, authors try not to do it, but they all have favorites among their many characters.
For the majority of Dustin and Mason’s storylines, sterling was mostly 2-dimensional. Much like Carver, his role is crucial and he adds a deep well of firepower to any battles, but for the most part his character has mainly has served the roll of “party member #3” and largely void CV if substance.
But there was SOMEthing in those few lines which occasionally elevated him above the level of cardboard that gave quiet hints that Sterling might very well be Nazri’s personal favorite. Upon finishing this second book? I am more convinced of that fact than ever.
The action in this book is tightly compressed. The entire episode seems to cover no more than 3 or 4 days at most. And yet I feel like I’ve taken the weeks necessary to get to know these guys better
From one cover to the other , it’s just pure good fun’
As is this author's wont, book 2 in the Vampire Vigilante series picks up shortly after the events of book 1. Sterling and the boys are still in Silveropolis when a potential cryptid, known as Smallfoot, and its associated fans/hunters, makes an appearance. Moreover, human bodies are starting to drop - staked through the heart. (This is of particular interest to Sterling).
I really enjoyed this novel. The pacing is excellent. The familar characters continue to develop and new characters introduced are interesting and I look forward to learning more about them in future entries.
I’m a total sucker when it comes to mouthy characters that love to annoy and woo everyone around them. Sterling has all the charisma and sarcasm that makes a good mc
Soo much wasted potential....again NOT MM of any kind. No romance. No kissing. Nothing romantic at all. I will need a break before i stomach the 3rd one.
