After Rebirth, I Become Popular in the Entertainment Industry 重生后我爆红娱乐圈

Rate this book
Tang Ziyou was born again. In his previous life, he gave everything to his fiancé and actor, Gu Jiuci, but he could not get the other party’s love. In this life, Tang Ziyou decided to let go. He took off the ring on his hand, moved out of Gu Jiuci’s house, returned to the entertainment industry, and proposed to dissolve the marriage contract.

Gu Jiuci was born in a wealthy family, handsome, had countless suitors, but he was engaged to Tang Ziyou.

A friend asked him: “How does it feel to be engaged?”

Gu Jiuci’s thin lips lightly opened: “Annoying.”

Knowing that Tang Ziyou wanted to dissolve the marriage contract, his friend raised his glass to congratulate him: “Now you aren’t annoyed.”

Gu Jiuci’s face was as heavy as iron, not only irritable but also flustered.

. . .

Gu Jiuci: “We were engaged when we were young.”

Tang Ziyou: “Outdated bad practices, you said, I understand.”

Gu Jiuci: “I am your fiancé.”

Tang Ziyou: “Fiancé does not equal husband, I know what you said.”

Gu Jiuci: “I don’t agree to dissolve the marriage contract!”

Tang Ziyou: “A marriage contract is just a marriage contract, and you don’t like it. I remember what you said.”

Gu Jiuci: …how can I beat myself to death!

. . .

Gu Jiuci discovered that Tang Ziyou really didn’t care about him anymore. Not only did he not care about him, but he also became popular in the entertainment circle and was liked by more and more people.

His brother: “You are not the only child in our family. Marrying me is also an option.”

His friend: “Don’t harm Xiao You, I will treat him well, don’t worry.”

Gu Jiuci was impatient: “Who said I don’t like him, stay away from my wife!”

Tang Ziyou: “Don’t talk nonsense, we’re already separated.”

Gu Jiuci: “Never separate, never separate! I will listen to you from now on, Xiao You, so don’t dissolve your marriage contract with me ok?”

Tang Ziyou: “Heh.”

This was the third novel I’ve read that was written by Lin Ang Si (林盎司) and I truly enjoyed reading this. The first novel I read was After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis, followed by Reborn as the Villain President’s Cat & Dog. To be honest, there was nothing special about the author’s writing. The romantic development was below average and it was pretty obvious from the three novels that she was not adept in writing romance, at the time when she wrote these three novels. Her current work might have improved by heaps seeing how many novels she has written so far. The comedic aspect was a hit or miss. The plots were quite interesting though. I guess that was what made me read this particular novel.

I started reading the novel without reading the description from Novel Updates. The story was quite obvious from the title itself though. I read the English translation up to chapter three and found the translation to be a bit weird, so I started reading the raw from chapter four onwards.

The story, of course, started from the MC’s rebirth. How he lived before his rebirth slowly unfolded as the story goes on. Likewise, from the ML’s point of view. In the first half of the novel, I rolled my eyes at the MC for his actions after his rebirth. It was to the point that I considered dropping the novel. It was a good thing I didn’t because I ended up truly enjoying it afterward. The reasons for both of their actions slowly unfolded as the story goes on. By the end of the main story, I was able to fully understand both sides and was able to grasp their emotions before and after.

I did think there would be a follow-up angst like other cliché novels out there. There wasn’t any and ironically, I felt a bit disappointed. It was fluffy like cotton candy from then on. The extra chapters overpowered my disappointment though. It was as if I read three different versions of the same story, even though the other two were just extras. I admire the author’s endurance for that. It was definitely not an easy thing to do. Writing the same story with a different ending and with a different point of view is very taxing.

I recommend giving this a read. Don’t be disheartened as you read the story before the wife-chasing arc. Trust me, it would get better.

2.5/5

I'm still mad MC got with ML, that's not a good thing lol. You know when someone is in a crappy relationship and they keeps jumping through hoops to try and make you sympathize with the partner? That's a lot of what this feels like. ML does nothing absolutely terrible, it's just that the two are incompatible in so many ways. This is especially evident in ML's reasoning for why he ignored MC in the first life. The author tries so hard to make him seem sympathetic, but all I get out of it is childish and weak willed. Like stick up for yourself in the initial stage of this problem and the issue wouldn't exist. Barring that, communicate later on. At the very least don't play this stupid game of *spoiler* pretending he's suppose to chase you down after breaking up with you because he liked you. ML comes across as so scummy because he spent so long saying "I don't want to be in a relationship" and then expecting infinite love from MC forever. He then spends his time harassing MC and constantly tracking him down because he didn't get what he wanted. *spoiler*. What a PITA.

The background setting is fine. General showbiz style with some decent side characters. Nothing wild or in your face but I liked a lot of the dialougue between characters and the plot flowed well.

MC is honestly a well-rounded character. He has a decent grasp of his strengths, isn't going to people's crap in this life and straightforward. I appreciated that there's a distinct difference in his temperament from last life to this life. He went from being a passive entity in his past life to an active one, facing forward in his career the current one.

Overall I'd call this average with a hint of exasperation. It's really well translated and well written so it's an okay novel if you have the time. MC makes up for a fair amount of ML's flaws, but be prepped for some dramatic monologuing about how life is hard for the ML after doing absolutely nothing to resolve his situation.

Like
• Translator you have done a lovely job. So smooth to read
• The showbiz sections are pretty well carried out. Not going lie, I might have liked it more if it were just the showbiz portions
• MC stands up for himself a fair amount. When he does it's great
Dislike
• ML is childish in a way the author really thought was going to be a sympathetic backstory
• Author then tries to give an entire note at the end of a chapter to explain why ML should be a sympathetic character (if you need to have that note then there may be issues with the character setting you wanted in the story)
• Can you tell I had issues with the ML?
• There's no chemistry between MC and ML. This feels like a story that's suppose to have a satisfactory BE for their relationship. If this had been the first life I maybe could have seen it but just not now. Its offputting and uncomfortable when they're together. The story is short and the ending is rushed so I can even less see how they should have been together
• *spoiler* If they hadn't gotten together I think I could honestly see how this would have been a great story about moving on and growing as a person. I think that's honestly what makes me the most angry. It's just such a poor choice putting them together and it makes me mad. The dialogue was great, the conversations about how they shouldn't be together from MC as he realizes how he started changing himself for "love" in the last life, ML and his weird obessiveness of just now loving MC after they break up. It was just the perfect set-up for personal character growth and instead we got whatever this supposed "romance" is suppose to be. I was originally going to rate this 3 stars but the more I think about it the more it makes me mad (•~•)

Very short reading.

I'm not sure if my experience reading this was affected by the comments and review I saw, or if it's really because the story

I've read a handful story about scum character, and the ML in this story, while he is kinda shit, it's not to the point I would wish the author dies for making them end game

Reading people comment about the ML is kinda making me uncomfortable to a point that he actually did super worse to MC, when in fact the MC had his share of mistake as well

But it's already spoiling my enjoyment reading this

Also for many ppl wishing MC to be with ML's friend or ML's brother, I just don't get it. The story is only 44 long chapters, the author don't let the building arc for MC to fall romantically with other ppl other than ML, also the ML's brother even repeatedly says he didn't like MC romantically, even encouraging ML in pursuing the MC again. If the brother ends up with the MC idk it just seems to bound becoming dull rls, especially if the MC still has lingering feelings towards the ML, albeit not obvious, it really implied he still has feeling for ML

But this all just my opinion

On one hand, it's satisfying that the characters are nuanced (they aren't perfect and realise their mistakes). On the other hand, it's extremely frustrating to learn that the MC forced the ML to be in an engagement with him via the ML's grandmother. The coercion and the idea that "He will fall in love with me because I like him and treat him well" really put me off.

You can't force feelings no matter how well you treat someone, it reminds me of the typical "friend zoned guy" who complains because he's so "nice" and "deserves" to have the girl correspond his feelings, even though this sentiment already indicates that he's not being nice because he's nice but out of self-interest. It's a manipulation tactic.

I think the novel explains quite well why the MC tried to cling onto the ML in such a manner (alone in the world and wanting a family) but I still don't like the development. I give it 3/5 because I think the characters have been given depth.

Oh well I can say that’s it’s finally nice to read from ML’s point of view sometimes.

But then it makes me feel so annoyed at how selfish MC was. Contrary to everyone, I’m glad they ended up together cause they are both toxic so they should just be with each other instead of hurting others especially the brother.

Honestly, I skip so many parts of how selfish the MC and how immature the ML are. But for this one, I’m leaning towards ML. I hate the idea just cause you love someone and you pour your love then the other “must” reciprocate it. And if they don’t then they are “bad”

Anyway, it’s a good quick read I suppose

This was a good read - pacing was just right, and it avoided being too dramatic or too angsty.
And it has a rare trope I don't often see in crematorium novels - ML wasn't the only one at fault. The MC was at fault as well, and actually realised and acknowledged it. And both leads actually talked and communicated about it (instead of dragging the story on), which was very refreshing in this genre.
When they got back together it also felt more... natural, I guess?
I enjoyed this, I think the length of the story was just right.
It could do with less "online comments", would be my main criticism of this.

It was not a wow novel but it had several pluses. Firstly it is only ab 50 chapters long and that felt just right. It still managed to contain all the usual tropes and twists. Secondly, i liked that here the reason for all the trouble was a bit different. It was ofc misunderstanding as usual but this is the only novel where the scum gong was not that scum, he was kinda a victim of MC too. But in general like most of danmeis (but not all!) it is just an ok novel.

This was very hard to follow at first, cause when you start reading it you instantly dislike how pushy the ML is being but when the MC actually start to gain his memory back you find that they both are equally at fault for whatever happened in the past. Since the book follows the MC's POV, you only get to see his misunderstood side which is misleading. To be honest, they really do belong with each other cause they're equally selfish and don't even understand the concept of communication.

The outside cast might be 1D, but the main couple have heart so I like reading this author's works - I cried twice in a row from their novels!
