Rate this book
Veronica Wethers disappeared years ago at the site of the old Kings Heath station. To rescue her, Rachel must gather a misfit band of time travelers before the station is rebuilt and the portal sealed forever. With a gang of conspiracy theorists hot on their trail - her own father among them - they must enter the trap that once ensnared Rachel herself and face a dark enemy thought banished forever... In a gripping climax, Rachel and her ragbag team do battle with ghosts out of time before the chimes of midnight sound and all is lost. But just what is the secret of the station at the end of time? Who is the mysterious unknown soldier that haunts the platform? And what hidden history is key to unlocking this mystery? A dizzying, mind-bending battle with time itself, Until the End of Time brings the second season of the Touchstone time travel saga to its spine-tingling conclusion.

After something silly like 16 books (if you count season 1, 2, Origins and a download if you subscribe to the newsletter), I've reached the end of the Touchstone series. How do I feel? Wellllllllllll, I'm glad in a way, but I'm also disappointed.

I'm not sure what exactly happened with this book. It seemed very disjointed at times, and slightly repetitive at the beginning, as you kept seeing the same situation from different points of view. Which was interesting, but stopped just as it was starting to get on my nerves. Kath's outfit (expertly pictured on the front of Bright Star Rising) also gets referenced too much. Yes we know it's Kath suddenly appearing, we recognise her.

This book brings everything right up to the present time, referring to corona virus, mask wearing, panicking about not wearing in mask when you weren't in 2021 anymore, and all that good stuff that still feels like it's ongoing in September 2022. All the favourites are back from the earlier books, you've got Danny back, Pete Weathers, Veronica Weathers, Rachel (most importantly), Mrs Hudson and Mitch turns up as well. Kath reappears, seemingly more evil than before. It's all centered around the station at the end of time, which has been for some reason, one of my favourite parts of the series. It's almost like it's a character at this stage in the book and everyone gets pulled into its orbit at some point, whether they plan to or not.

There's a lot of loose ends being tied up neatly, including some that I wasn't expecting - the soldier on the platform? Someone pass the tissues! Veronica has finally been "brought back" even though she's stuck in the station, after disappearing years/books ago.

But at the same time, having zipped through all these books now (I started book 1 on the 20th August and have finished the series on the 6th September), I don't feel like it's the end. I wanted to find more about Aaron (a new character brought in for this book to help Veronica). I STILL want to find out more about Mrs Hudson's earlier life, although some of my questions were touched upon - I'm just salty that Mitch got two dedicated books and Mrs Hudson only got one. And it definitely feels like it's been left open ended. Is it finished? Only Andy knows and this has only been published in 2021. Although if he does release anymore books now, I'm all caught up with the series, so not lagging behind, trying to speed read books to catch up.

There are still a couple of iffy books in this series, particularly the ones centered around Kath (Bright Star Falling/Rising), although this "last" book does refer back to events and characters from those two slightly. I still don't think they really lent anything to the overall arc of the storyline though.

What I did think was missing from this book, and I've only just realised wouldn't be there, was Andy's indepth historical notes. Of course they wouldn't be there, since it's bang up to date in 2021. But they did round off the book nicely, particularly if there was an event/time that you were particularly interested in.

Overall, I would still recommend this series, as it's a great time travel series, I do think it does fall off later in the series and does get a bit complicated - as I said in one of my earlier reviews, with the right budget, this would work brilliantly on screen.
