Rate this book
A city blazing with rebellion. An evil growing in power. A girl with a gift...

Aura Jax has tasted freedom, and now she's coming for those who want to take it away.

Sixteen-year-old Aura Jax has always known her own mind, whether The Society she grew up in knew it or not. Now, after returning to the totalitarian city set against everything she believes in, Aura finds herself in need of an impossible escape.

Betrayed by allies she thought she could trust, she faces her biggest challenge yet: resisting the evil that would steal her power and enslave everyone.

With her father's execution now imminent, Aura's only option is to conspire with people she barely trusts to save The Society from total destruction.

If you like Divergent, you’ll love this fun dystopian YA action-adventure

Loved the story, hated the cliffhanger ending. Where’s book 3, where?!? :) I loved the first book (Aura) and I would suggest people read these two consecutively. For me, a few months had passed in between and the beginning of Spark was a bit confusing. It all did come back later, but just fair warning - binge, don’t wait, k?

Aura is imprisoned by the same President Wolfe who is obsessed about her mom & has ordered the execution of her dad. Everyone she knows has betrayed her and she’s up for recalibration.

In book 2 more spectacular body-swapping tech emerges and, of course, Aura gets into dicey situations she has to get out of. I liked that the more I read, the more secrets about the backstory were revealed and absolutely loved the fact that Aurora never gave up, even when at the Facility. It was a fun dystopian action-adventure, if a tad chunky - 464 pages is 2 books for the price of 1. ;)

Recommended for lovers of dystopian fiction the liked of Divergent (writing this during the 2019-2020 global pandemic must have been fun for the author), strong YA heroines, chosen ones, YA action-adventure and very very very slow burn romantic sidelines.
