All I want are the simple things in life. A wife, a family of my own, and a peaceful existence. And I can picture the kind of woman to share it all with. She’d be sweet. We’d click. It would be uncomplicated, and it would feel easy and right from the start.
Callaway Rice, AKA bad girl pop star Miss Mayhem, is not that woman. She’s too beautiful for her own good, her life’s a mess, and she’s an outsider in this town that I love so much.
But now she’s staying in the cottage on my property. She’s showing up at my place for breakfast every day. And for some reason, I’m gravitating to her like she’s the one I’ve been looking for all along.
This is a super slow burn, character-driven romance, but Claire Cain has such a dreamy quality to her writing. I could read about Wyatt and Calla doing anything and find enjoyment. Their connection felt so realistic and pure.
International popstar Calla has escaped to Silverton to shield herself from the tabloids. This mountain hideaway is the coziest setting! Staying in a cottage on All Saints Ranch, she meets Wyatt Saint, the most perfect gentleman who wears chaps and cooks like a dream. Yes please!
Complete opposites, I loved the gradual way these two bonded. Their near kisses were torturous, in the best way. Wyatt was subtly protective, which I always find endearing. And a true family man! The relationship with his brother and mother was filled with pestering love. I'm really looking forward to Warrick's story!
🥰This is a clean, small-town, sweet-angst story, but there is definitely some heat to it. Wyatt and Calla are definitely opposites in many ways, they do not make sense together, but they do make each other whole.
😘Calla is a pop star, she is messy, a little lost, and she is hiding from the tabloids. I really like Wyatt, He is steady, sweet, loyal, and super nice that will do anything to keep Calla safe.
Calla and Wyatt, are very opposites to each other, but they do have a connection, the storyline is engaging with retable characters, real issues, and very different, complex main characters.
😜My only complaint is how unsure they were regarding their feelings, and repeat lines, I like that the writer talks about the stress of fame and the Darkside of the music industry.
If you like a small town, slow burn, emotional moments, and 🤗tender characters this is for you.
2.5/5. I truly liked this so much at the beginning but I don’t think the MMC understands that long distance relationships do in fact exist and so do planes trains and automobiles so don’t let that get in the way of your romance. Sheesh
This was a good one. Opposites attract is right. Geezz, could these two get any different. I enjoyed there love story. I was glad it was focused on just the two of them. Sometimes these books head into too many people getting involved. There was a bit of repetition of thought with these two. I am glad the author didn't stay stuck in the depression at the first of the book. I needed a light read and this was perfect. This is a clean romance with closed door sex before marriage.
Callaway returns to her hometown of Silverton, running from bad press & reputation. She rents a place from cowboy, Wyatt, who makes her heart flutter & judges her at the same time. Wyatt has always wanted a family & a peaceful life but he's not sure about the chaos that follows the pop star.
Returning to Silverton is always a constant pleasure especially for Wyatt's story. Getting a glimpse of him from the earlier books, it was satisfying to read his story. I loved his character with all my heart. There wouldn't have been anyone else other than Calla for him. These two balanced each other out in the best way possible. Calla's past story & life was sad & emotional but I adored how she stood up for herself & her happiness. Their relationship was full of spark, wit, humour & romance.
This picturesque small town of Silverton & its magical romances will forever be my comfort reads. I just love all the couples & their stories here and can't wait for more.
This book packs such a punch, my goodness! Sweetheart cowboy rancher + pop star trying to make a new life for herself + just neighbors + this can’t possibly work out = swoon city!
I loved Wyatt since the first Silver Ridge series & could not wait for his book, and it didn’t disappoint! He’s desperate to find love and build the family he wants, but deep down he’s afraid he’ll never be able to keep it. Calla is trying to escape her bad girl image but is afraid to be who she really is. He wants love and forever, she just needs to get away. This can’t possibly be forever, can it?
My heart was just bursting on every page of this sweet small town romance. The way Wyatt and Calla learn not just about each other but themselves was so beautiful! Calla had so many choices made for her in her life & career, I was cheering when she started taking control back. And Wyatt, whose big old heart is the softest, squishiest thing, realizing how he’d hardened himself against future pain? Oh my sweet cinnamon roll hero. Did I mention they briefly get snowed in? THEY DOOOO.
Claire’s writing is jam packed with deep emotions, strong friendships, and intense connections. I love every visit to Silverton and cannot wait for future books in this series. So many great stories coming up, especially Wyatt's brothers!!
Thank you in advance to the author, Claire Cain, for providing a complimentary review copy Prism Book Tours, a positive review was not required nor requested, and all words are my own.
While the author has other books published, including the previous connected series that introduces Wyatt – The Silver Ridge Resort Series, this is the first book I’ve read. And, it is the first book of the series.
As of note – I didn’t feel like I was missing something by not reading the previous one, but it might be interesting to see where some characters of this book originate.
One thing that amazed me, was something few authors do – a content warning for potential readers. I’m not saying authors don’t care about their readers or their preferences, but when an author goes the extra mile and the first page has that warning – that definitely grabs my attention in a good way.
The content includes the death of a parent at a young age (Wyatt) and the drug overdose of another parent (Callaway). However, it also has some “barnyard” language which includes the use of B.S (🐂💩) cr@p, d@mn, jacka$$, he!!, and a “sexual reference” to Calla possibly “jumping his bones” in reference to a fling with Wyatt. While this language doesn’t bother me too much, other readers might take some offense to it. Some might object to an “out of marriage” pregnancy depicted with one character. There is an off-page/between pages intimate scene, only briefly referenced though and done so tastefully.
The premise listed here is a bit different, but according to the back of the book …
“When a small town rancher and a world-famous pop star collide, it’s Almost Perfect.
Callaway Rice IS ON THE RUN – from the press, form her bad reputation and from her life as an internationally known limit-pushing popstar. She needs peace, quiet, and the mountains of her small hometown. She does not need a quiet cowboy alternately judging her and make her wish she could turn his head.
Wyatt Saint wants the simple things in life: a wife, a family of my own, and a peaceful existence. After stepping back from a successful cattle business to pursue these goals, he meets Callaway Rice – the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, and the opposite of everything he says he wants.
But now she’s staying in the cottage on his property. She’s showing up at his place for breakfast every day. And for some reason, he’s gravitating to her like she’s the one he’s been looking for all along”.
Based on the back of the book description, how could I NOT want to read this? And, with the cozy cover on front? Definitely fits my idea of a “curl up on the couch, get comfy under a blanket” kind of read.
The main three characters are Wyatt, his younger brother Warrick, and of course Callaway (Calla). Of the three, I really gravitated more to Warrick. He just had a personality and sense of humor I could relate to. The other characters – the boys’ mother Jane, Quinn, and others were intricately woven into the story to provide support. The story is told in first person format from Wyatt and Calla’s points of view.
Right off, Calla comes off as shallow and spoiled. I honestly did not like her at all. She was an unsympathetic character. Once I did get to know her, I saw how the stage name “Miss Mayhem” might’ve tied in. However, the readers don’t learn the real origin of the name except in a “blurb” where she tells Wyatt that the record label liked her “bad girl” image. That would’ve been interesting.
Wyatt is looking for a simple wife. And, of course learning who Calla is – despite the attraction, she isn’t quite what he wants.
Obviously, Calla is in her hometown to recover from the fallout from her mother Candy’s death. She isn’t taking any calls, even those from her friend Jenna. Is she running away or hiding out? The answer – a bit of both.
Warrick and Wyatt know who she is, and Wyatt makes assumptions about her based off of her stage image and an internet search. Some are rumors she provided her mother with drugs and caused her mother’s overdose – obviously the rumors surround the Miss Mayhem identity and not Calla herself.
Of course, Wyatt isn’t interested in that, then again his lifestyle and work keep him from pursuing his dream of a wife and family. Then, there’s the middle brother – Wilder, who’s in the military.
After Wyatt apologizes to Calla, the gesture is touching to her. He even offers to be there for her. And, she realizes she’s cried more in the time she’s been there than in most of her life. She didn’t consider “Candy” her mother, especially once Calla/Miss Mayhem became famous. Sadly, Calla was Candy’s ticket to the good life. A touch of reality for some actors and singers.
Warrick invites her to the main house and Calla realizes she needs the company and conversation more than she realized. Yet, despite Wyatt’s own apology, for some reason Calla puts him on edge, as if she is a threat.
Warrick begins to see something in his brother, though Wyatt won’t admit it. In fact, Wyatt is still trying to “app date” – trying to find matches in an app that even his mother uses. There’s no connection with the dates – and he doesn’t let there be one. He’s sadly beginning to realize that Calla is who he wants even if she is wrong for him.
Eventually, Calla reconnects with Jenna who thinks a “fling” might help Calla. Though, Calla knows she doesn’t want to return to the lifestyle she fled. Still, it is a matter of time before she has to return.
She learns to live in the moment, has gratitude, hope, discovers healing, and how to more forward. Though, she now wants to try to balance Miss Mayhem and Calla as they are the same person and hopes Wyatt can accept that. And, he is wondering if he can too – especially since both want to take a chance.
As with most stories like this – the relationship takes a bit of a dent and scratch on its way to the happy ending. The dialogue and story take predictable, but at times, enjoyable turns to get where it needs to be.
It was a bit hard to get into, but it picked up about halfway. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s realistic approach to fame, fans and their fickle behavior, along with the seedy side of management of celebrities.
I love how the author presented Calla as someone on the catch-22 fence – people complaining she’s auto-tuned, but the record company not letting her do her own stuff, something she really wants to do. And, I was left wondering if she couldn’t re-brand from Miss Mayhem into simply Calla, doing her own stuff and going indie after the last record to the studio is fulfilled.
Wyatt was interesting – loved the fact he talked to his horse. It was amusing, charming and endearing. He truly knew what he wanted and nothing was going to sway him – not even the allure of money.
Warrick, at times, saved the day with his humor. I loved a reference to him forgetting the reusable shipping bags and not wanting to walk back to the truck to get them. I’ve done that SO MANY times myself. His remark about the weather being “colder than a bucket of ice cubes” is spot on. We’ve had days in the desert it gets THAT cold!! 🪣🧊🥶
As far as the ending story-wise, one resolution I was expecting and didn’t get was Calla’s manager, Rad Bickman’s shady practices and what happened to him. Was he a criminal or just disliked? Another one was – who was responsible for Calla’s mother getting the drugs. Was he the one responsible?
The fact that Calla was severely indecisive about staying in Utah and returning to L.A was fascinating yet annoying. She recognized it not as an escape, but a soul deep need. I think she needed to really focus on herself rather than an identity.
The short chapters kept this going for me. And, yes, it really is a slow burn romance. Some readers might not enjoy the “will they, won’t they, they never will, they might, they might not” kind of romance that this book is. It delivers more in the way of connections than romance.
There was, at times, too much narrative; but at other times the descriptiveness of food, location, and emotions drew me in.
This was an alternately infuriating, emotional, realistic, and heart-warming read.
Fans of the author, particularly her Silver Ridge Resort Series will no doubt want to read this.
I would definitely be interested in reading Warrick’s story – “Almost Real” as well as getting to know Wilder in a future book.
WOW! Where shall I start? This book has it all. Two strong characters from two entirely different worlds….on a journey toward what each thought they wanted individually but discovered wasn’t as far apart or unrealistic to achieve together. The storytelling is full of self-reflection and realistic challenges when life goals may not be conducive to a HEA. The buildup to the HEA made me want to prompt the characters to “use their words” instead of brooding in silence. However, the HEA was worth the wait and the epilogue gave me all the feels.
A super sweet romance with a super nice guy - who is literally and figuratively a Saint - I highly recommend! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series - these Saint brothers are shaping up to be worth the wait!
It wasn’t a bad read, it just wasn’t one I really liked a lot. I just had a hard time getting into the book. Nothing against the author AT ALL, but the book just wasn’t for me.
"Almost Perfect (Back to Silver Ridge, #1)" by Claire Cain
Reason for DNF (Did Not Finish): A small-town romance that felt far too "low-stakes" to the point of being stagnant. The title proved ironic, as the story suffered from "perfect character syndrome," where the leads were so pleasant and without flaws that there was no meaningful conflict to drive the plot forward.
Almost Perfect kicks off the Back to Silver Ridge series with a classic trope: the return to a charming hometown, a second chance at love, and the warmth of a close-knit community. However, the "comfort" of the setting eventually turned into boredom.
The Positives: Small-Town Comfort 🏡 Cozy Atmosphere: Claire Cain succeeds at building a world that feels safe and inviting. If you love descriptions of local festivals, friendly neighbors, and a sense of belonging, the setting of Silver Ridge is well-crafted.
Sweetness Factor: For readers who prefer "clean" or "sweet" romance without heavy angst or explicit content, this book hits that mark perfectly. It’s a very gentle read. The Drawbacks: Why it was a DNF 📉 I put the book down because the "Almost Perfect" lives of the characters left no room for a story:
Lack of Narrative Friction: In a romance, you need a "why now?" and a "why not?". Here, the "why not" was non-existent. The characters liked each other, their families liked each other, and the town liked them. Without any real obstacles—either internal or external—the book felt like a series of pleasant conversations rather than a developing drama.
Static Characters: The leads were almost too nice. They didn't have the "messy" edges or deep-seated flaws that make fictional people feel real. This made their journey feel predictable and, ultimately, uninteresting.
Glacial Pacing: Because there was no major conflict to resolve, the story meandered through daily tasks and small-town happenings. I reached the 50% mark and realized that if I skipped to the end, I probably wouldn't have missed any significant character growth or plot twists.
Repetitive Themes: The narrative leaned heavily on the "small towns are better than the big city" sentiment, which was repeated so often it began to feel like a lecture rather than a natural part of the protagonist's realization.
Conclusion:
Almost Perfect is a 2/5 because while the writing is technically sound, the story lacks the "hook" needed to sustain interest. It is a "comfort read" that takes the concept a bit too literally, removing all the tension that makes a romance rewarding. I DNF'd it because I felt like I was watching paint dry—very pretty, beige paint, but paint nonetheless.
I don’t know what else to say but I am totally satisfied with this book. It was sweet but angst. It had real problems but a happy ending. And of course the characters were comlex and lovable. Almost Perfect is the first book in Claire Cain’s new series, Back to Silver Ridge series. I adored The Silver Ridge Resort series so I was excited to read this book. Wyatt and Calla were such complex characters who were so different and yet they were perfect for each other. I really liked Wyatt, he was steady and sweet. He was the oldest of his family and he has had to care for his family after the death of his father. He was responsible and kind. Wyatt had a lot going for him, he had everything he could want but he was also searching for more. He wanted a family. However he was trying to settle for nice, will he take the risk with Calla? Will Wyatt learn that love isn’t easy and sometimes it can be difficult but it is worth the risk? Calla was definitely a complicated character. She was hiding from her old life, where she lived as a pop star who was always in the tabloids. She didn't want this life but that was her lot and she was trying to find herself. I liked Calla but I didn’t love her; however, she ended up growing on me. She was just trying to learn to live again without the expectations of the press and just be herself. Calla will have to learn how to balance her life and what it will mean to be in a committed relationship? Is she willing to risk it for Wyatt? I adored the relationship between Wyatt and Callie, they had a connection. It was fun to read about them as they fell in love. It was a gradually thing but they were goners from the beginning. I also really liked Warrick, Wyatt’s brother. He was a wonderful addition to the story. He was just a lot of fun and I liked his relationship with both Wyatt and Calla. I am super excited for his book. The storyline was engaging but it didn’t feel rushed. There were a couple of parts where it kind of slowed down for me, but I still enjoyed it. Almost Perfect was a fun book to read. However it did have mentions of drug overdose of a loved one and the death of a parent at a young age. This book is also closed door so it had some innuendos, so I would recommend it to those 16 and up but of course read at your own discretion. I would recommend Almost Perfect to those who enjoy small town romances.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Small Town Delight. I barely have words for how much I felt while reading this book.
My one and only complaint is that the characters come off a little bit wishy washy about their feelings for one another. There's one chapter between them both sort of swearing off one another and then in maybe the next one they are either together or considering being together. It made them seem a little unsure of themselves when they both were pretty good about making decisions and sticking with them.
Calla is going through things... she's literally and figuratively been through the ringer and coming "home" is sort of her own way of fixing all of the things that have gone wrong in her life. She's lonely but not lonely for a relationship lonely for a real life something outside of what she's been gifted with so far.
Wyatt is to be honest grumpy and not very redeeming in the beginning. He comes off as a big grump, a little rude kind of harsh and a little bit judgmental. Which to be fair he's entitled to be, but it feels all so irrelevant in comparison to the situations with Calla. He's making his money, he's living his life but it's clear he sees a need for more.
Every side character in this story feels like a complete person, like so important in their own way. The friends that Calla finds along the way, the opportunities for growth she discovers, the pushes to be more herself everything comes from the community of people she finds herself entangled in. And it's like the biggest warmest comfiest blanket.
To be perfectly honest I would love to move to the middle of no where and live a life like this. Bask in the comfort of the sun and the mountains and the snow. Of all the things the world has to offer and that was one of the best parts about the world that Clare Cain has written the town feels so well rounded.
If I could give this more than five stars I would. There's no spice, it's all fade to black and to be honest that's not normally my thing but the story pulled me in dragged me around and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Please take the time to read this. You will not be disappointed.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“If life had shown me anything, it was that the minute I started wanting something in that way, in that yearning, desperate way, was the minute it all went to hell.”
Okay where do I start. Obviously I really liked this book, it gave me a bit of Tattered & Torn series vibes - small town, found family, making peace with your past, amazing characters, beautiful setting.
I’m going to start off with the fact that I LOVE Calla. She’s precious. I wanted to hug her - she’s been through so much & yet she’s so strong and resilient. And Wyatt might be a bit of an old fashioned guy, but there’s no denying he’s an adorable cinnamon roll who knows to COOK!!! And all that loneliness both of them were drowning in before they found each other - my heart!!
This was one of the most realistic portrayal of relationships- yes there was an insta-attraction element, but what’s a romcom without amazingly hot and attractive MCs. But the development of the actual relationship itself was gratifying- they had their reservations, they didn’t jump to instant physical engagement, they took their time learning about each other, there was so much hesitation, each had to summon their courage to make a move or say something due to their past mistakes and issues. All that pain, insecurities, uncertainties were depicted so gracefully.
I love that they acknowledged their differences because there is no denying that Calla and Wyatt are extreme opposites in terms of their lifestyle. I really liked the depiction of how they took their time to sort out their issues before they found that happy ending which they truly deserved.
Warrick was my absolute fave and I can’t wait to read his book. I love the way he facilitated everything and he was always a ray of sunshine though I have an inkling that deep down boy is really traumatised. And of course I loved Quinn as well so I’m definitely looking forward to the next two books in the series.
This is a sweet book with a satisfying storyline and ending that just begs to be read while cuddled under a blanket near a crackling fire while the cold weather rages outside. I enjoyed being back in the same setting as Claire Cain's previous Silverton series, and many of those characters make appearances or are referenced. Wyatt was a side character in those, and it's a delight to read from his POV here: from his string of uneventful dating app matches to his falling in love with Calla, who gets to set the pace in a way that I enjoyed seeing from a female heroine. It also contains many of my favorite elements of her stories - people in touch with their emotions, good guacamole, interesting family dynamics, solid girl friendships, difficult issues dealt with in a way that explores the fallout people experience as they begin to deal with moving on, and conveniently timed weather events that force the couple together in a fantastic way.
I especially appreciate that this book had the shortest misunderstanding/breakup time of basically any romance novel I've ever read. And don't we all need that in 2022? This book is pure escapism with playful, serious, and meltingly sweet scenes. Also has this gem of a character description: "He was a man who wasn't going to make excuses. If something needed to be done, he did it." Yes. Forget steamy blue eyes, this is the ultimate feature I want all men to have. The beginning of a new series is also a fun time to start making guesses on which characters will be paired up in future books and how certain moments in this book might be written later from a different POV. I hope I get to read about Warrick and Sadie very soon!

Small town cowboy Wyatt Saint and his brother own the All Saints Ranch in small town Silverton. Two brothers, one with a gruff, grumpy exterior and the other with a sunny disposition and fun personality. Someone books their cabin as Callaway Rice, who they are expecting to be a male, only she isn't. He is a she and a rockstar who grew up unnoticed by most everyone, until now. Silverton is the perfect small town with a cozy main street, snow storms that send the power off, and the Saints family with tight knit ties without overbearing enmeshment. As a reader you will be sucked into the perfect place. I wanted to be right there, seeing the mountains, making snow men and tasting the local bakery's homemade bread.
Super slow burn because Wyatt is a gentleman and the two main characters are not alike in any way, but there is a little spice. Both characters have to take risks to make things work, their internal and external struggles are real and come with Miss Mayhem's career. LOVED the entire cast of characters and I'm going to read more from Clair Caine now that I know there a whole other series based in Silverton. I also can't wait for book two in the Back to Silver Ridge Series which will explore his brother Warrick. Thanks to Prism Book Tours and the author for the complimentary copy of the book for the tour. Almost Perfect has great writing style and swoon worthy characters! It's full of small town charm and family support.
Content and trigger warnings: fade to black sex scene, mild language, drug addiction and loss.
Almost Perfect is the first book in the Back to Silver Ridge series by Claire Cain. This was a new-to-me author, but the book overview sounded interesting and it has a gorgeous cover. I was not sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised while reading the book. It was fast-paced, beautifully written, and had a solid storyline. The characters were likable, and I loved meeting the people of Silver Ridge. Wyatt had recently hired managers to help with his business. He wanted was ready to slow down, find a wife, and have a family of his own. He wanted to find someone sweet and easy to get along with. He definitely did not want a relationship with a woman whose life was full of chaos. Bad girl popstar Calla Rice was known as Miss Mayhem in the music world. She had recently lost her mother to a drug overdose and her last record had hit bottom. She needed time away from everyone to find herself and her creative side again. She escapes to the small town of Silver Ridge where she had lived until her teenage years. She wanted to run away from her bad-girl reputation but was not certain how to manage it. This was a wonderful story and I loved watching Calla take control of her life and find a way to balance her life and work. Wyatt was such a sweetie and had such a big heart. It was an emotional slow-burning romance that will touch your heart. I enjoyed reading the book and I look forward to the next book in the series. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Almost Perfect by Claire Cain is a sweet heartfelt contemporary romance novel. Right away there is a lot of heavy emotion but once I got past that, the rest was wonderful!
The middle portion picked up speed. From there, I was deeply engaged and hooked into the characters and their tale. Callaway and Wyatt made me swoon. They have this chemistry and understanding that would make anyone envious. Their relationship is complicated. They do not want each other but their hearts and bodies say differently. A bit of humor added to this heart warming journey made it entertaining.
Claire Cain created a fictional world that eerily mirrors reality but spun it in a way that was addictive. Life is complex and so it was in this book. I enjoyed the banters from the characters and their own issues. It made the ending sweeter and more rewarding not only for them but for me as the reader.
I enjoyed exploring this first novel in a small-town series. I cannot wait to see what Claire Cain does next. Overall, I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy Sammantha Chase, Lori Wilde, Debbie Mason and Susan Mallery's books. 4.5-stars
I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵5/5 This book has a great cast of characters. It features a popstar in a grumpy hero who is a heart of gold on the inside. Calls and Wyatt are really awesome.
The chemistry between the two of them is super good. Even though this book is sweet and clean the romance has a lot of sizzle to it. The kissing scenes are awesome and there are a lot of emotional moments between the two characters.
The other thing I really liked about the book is the depth and the topics explored. While some of it might be a little bit sensitive to you, the author really touched on these topics really well and pay respect. Also what I appreciated was that the book really talked about the stress of fame and the Darkside of the music industry.
The other thing I loved about the book is just how well written in the pacing. I love that it is a slow burn in the beginning and the pace picks up in the middle. But more than that, it is emotional and really tender. I highly recommend this book by Claire Kane and I was super lucky to receive an arc of it.
True to the title, the characters of the story are almost perfect but have different shades of darkness in their past. It was fantastic to read Calla and Wyatt and their story is an emotional roller coaster ride. The emotions are explained explicitly in both their POVs with amazing writing. Their worlds are like north and south but the spark between them is phenomenal. All the situations and circumstances are relatable in every extent of life. All the side characters are diligently lovable and help in a lot of situations. I love a book that either has a prologue or epilogue to give more insight and this one has an epilogue that stole my heart.
Calla is a famous popstar who runs away from her situation and comes to find solace in her birth city whereas Wyatt is a simple man living his life with dreams that every common man has. They both cross each other’s path and then life happens with a slow burn romance and a lot of what-ifs in the way. The intensity between them is fire and the odds of this character driven plot is eye candy.
I love opposites attract stories. And Calla and Wyatt are certainly opposites. I’ve read only a few stories where the main character was a star (Calla is a pop star) so this angle made Almost Perfect complex and unique. Especially when she’s received bad press and rents a place from a handsome (and oh so sweet) cowboy.
Wyatt is a great character. Swoon. He knows who he is and what he wants. Calla doesn’t really fit into that, does she? But the attraction is hard to ignore.
Calla and Wyatt deal with a lot, and they tend to hold stuff inside (which can be a bit infuriating at times.) But their growth and their slow-burning relationship kept me turning pages. This is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her work. I love her writing style, and he incredible characters and setting.
Disclosure: #CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book.
This is the first book I have read by this author. This story started out not too bad, but then I feel like it skipped all over the place. I did find parts of this story to be comical.
"You're a nut. Not a special snowflake, but a cracked little nut!" (chapter 28)
In the first place, the Silverton this story talks about is in Colorado, not Utah. Silver Ridge Peaks spans an impressive 25 square miles in the Colorado Mountains. It is one of the most beautiful drives I have ever been on.
Anyway, I guess the writer has the right to move things around a little. I hope the next book gets better. I do plan on reading the second book next - Almost Real: A Sweet Small Town Fake Relationship Romance (Back to Silver Ridge Book 2) Kindle Edition.
Callaway escapes to Silver Ridge to lick her wounds and regroup following the death of her mother and the destruction of her reputation due to rumours that she was responsible for the death. Her accomodation is a cabin on the same property as Wyatt, and while the two initially have a click between them, they get off to a bad start when Wyatt judges her based on the rumours.
This was fine, the relationship was pretty nice, and their issues were warranted (that is to say, they weren't a thin veneer to just keep the two apart). Wyatt wrestled with what he's always thought he wanted in a life partner and the reality of his feelings for Callaway. On her part, Callaway struggled with how to move forward with her life, and her doubts that she was what Wyatt truly wanted.
Everything was fine, but I did find it to be super slow and not in a cosy delicious way, but in a, oh there's a lot more pages to go but not a lot is happening. After a little while it did feel like a bit like the story was spinning its wheels.
This is Wyatt and Callaway’s journey. Calla is a pop star who is on the run from bad press and reputation, and she heads to the mountains of her hometown for the peace and to regroup and destress, and she hires a property off cowboy Wyatt. Wyatt knows what he wants out of life and that is a wife and family of his own, and he and Calla are complete opposites, but they complement each other perfectly. This is a well written story which is well-paced, fun, a slow burn, with family, friendships, and love, which leads to a sweet and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
What a beautiful mess! Calla & Wyatt are so very different and perfect for each other in every way. Calla is famous – she has a bad girl, over the top persona with plenty of made up drama to maintain popularity. Wyatt is a country boy through and through. He lives up in the mountains and is an overall great guy, kind & respectful – he loves his mom too pieces if that tells you anything. I love the rural mountain setting and the overall coziness of the book. It’s one of those you want to sit in front of the fireplace on the couch, cuddle up and read all night. The pacing was steady and the characters were lovable beyond all measure. I can’t wait to read more of this series as it comes out!
Calla aka Miss Mayhem's life is a dumpster fire. She goes to Silverton, UT - her hometown although no one knows that. She was discovered at age 14 and left her small hometown to model and become a popstar. She is staying at cabin at the Saint ranch. Wyatt is looking for the perfect small town woman. Calla is definitely not what he wants/needs. As he realizes that she is human and that the media isn't always accurate, he finds that he really likes her. He helps her navigate through healing and finding her music again. When things explode because of her manager, she has to face her past and get her story out.
A really sweet story between Wyatt who lives in the mountains of Utah and a city gal, Miss Mayhem, with notoriety.
Wyatt wants normal, old-fashioned; Calla is anything but old fashioned. She’s trying to get away from the press, the bad memories and the death of her mother.
She rents a cabin near Wyatt and quickly there is a chemistry. One that both are trying desperately to fight.
The story continues and it’s all very sweet and romantic.
I myself prefer a more sizzling story between my characters so if you’re looking for a really sexy, hot story; this isn’t it.
If you want a tamer, sweet story - then this is the story for you.
I really enjoyed reading about Calla and Wyatt and their friendship turned romance. It is a clean romance fit for any age. The story begins talking about Calla’s mother who overdosed on drugs. Calla escapes the press by renting a house in the mountain. This house happens to be owned by Wyatt’s brother. Wyatt greets her and they instantly feel a connection. The chemistry grows as the talk more and eat meals together. Yet soon Calla will have to go back to her pop star life. What will happen between her and Wyatt?
