A few months after a death in her family, underwater photographer Fin Fleming is ready to move on with her life when she discovers the location of a fabled sunken treasure, the Queen’s Tiara. She lands a contract to film the recovery expedition and despite the legend that says the treasure is cursed, she sets off on a mission with her sometimes boyfriend Liam, her almost stepbrother Oliver Russo, and her mother, the world-famous oceanographer Maddy Russo.

The expedition runs into trouble when a band of pirates, a mysterious cabin cruiser, and Fin’s ex-husband follow her to the treasure’s location. Things get worse when all the divers start having nightmares about a woman imprisoned in the wreck pleading for her life. Then a rash of drug use breaks out among the crew.

As the situation worsens, Fin wonders if the curse is real. She begins to think so when sorrow, betrayal, and death by drowning—the very words in the ancient curse—stalk the treasure hunters.

Sunken Death is the second book in the Fin Fleming Sea Adventures Thriller series, and continues Fin’s heroine’s journey to find the family, friends, and love she needs.

This was even better than the first book. In this crazy world today, I couldn’t believe forgiving, unbelievably kind people like Fin still exist.
However, I’m loving hearing more about this beautiful family. And to top it off, it contains so many action packed scenes.

Love the series! Fin, eh. Not so much….

This is a great series!
Sharon Ward is extremely skilled in keeping the tension dialed up with her fast-paced, generally adrenaline fueled, writing style. Full of surprising & fun twists & turns.
It’s clear the author is also incredibly knowledgeable regarding the sport of diving, in all it’s forms & complexities, as well as being a lover of the ocean & sea life.
I’ve found myself constantly pausing to look up a quick photo of fish or animals I’m not familiar with. Some have really surprised me with their beauty!
(In this story be sure to take a moment to check out, “the relative of the slug,” when it’s mentioned near Belize. It’s so worth it - as I was happily surprised to learn of it’s many unique shapes & vibrant color characteristics.)
Book 2, Sunken Death, is even better than the 1st book.
And it also includes a … “creepy” factor. ;)
But, alas, Fin.
She did not, unfortunately, mature at all as I hoped she would in the interim between books, nor throughout the course of this most recent story.
Regrettably, Fin remains - in all ways - like a 12 year old girl in an adult woman’s body & world.
I mean, she’s got skills. The photography. Her diving. And her education. Basically anything & everything to do with boats & the sea.
But when it comes to her internal world? Or interacting with other people?
It’s still all, “poor me,” “I’m so misunderstood,” & “I’m a unicorn in a world full of plain brown horses,” (yes, Fin somehow, annoyingly manages to be painfully insecure & eye-rollingly full of herself simultaneously).
And just simply forget common sense, plus putting 2 & 2 together.
Fin has no clue as to what motivates people, or how to piece together why folks do what they do.
I understand she “blames” this type of thing on her more “sheltered” upbringing.
But, if anyone had the opportunity to grow up traveling the globe. Meeting people from all types of cultures. Learning from people with strengths across the spectrum, etc etc …
Just because you’re not in 1 room with the exact same children, that are your exact same age, with 1 adult (the very same one), all year every year — does not equate to “more free” than Fin. It’s an American myth. (And makes absolutely no sense.)
I’d trade places with Fin in 1/18th of a heartbeat, & wouldn’t ever dare to call my life, “sheltered” or “less than.”
Additionally, Fin constantly vacillates between: believing she’s the most beloved little girl in the world, righteous fury & the “poor me’s” over not having her “bio dad in her life for 20 years,” & ridiculously childish trigger-hair jealousy anytime “the adults” in her life (especially of the male persuasion) show even the slightest attention toward others. Who are not her.
Meaning - FIN. That which the Universe spins around.
Finally, Fin’s “relationship” with Liam. Now, friends, I know these two are “taking it slow,” but …. here we’ve landed at the end of Book 2.
And I don’t know about you, but .. I’d think by NOW .. almost ANYONE their age would be doing SOMETHING other than the occasional peck on the forehead or top of the head. ?!?
I mean, Fin even sleeps alone, solo, every night on her boat.
Even on long journeys away. While Liam doubles up with others. Like, he doesn’t even sleep in another cabin on her boat, or on the daybed. ?!?
(Is this 1890, & someone forgot to tell ME?? “Only chaperoned visits till wedlock…” or..??)
Fin is simply one odd duck. And not particularly likable.
So! Other than Fin being an annoying character - the rest of Book 2 was so smartly written!
And as I sit here now, facing down the 1st New England snowstorm of the year, getting to “hang out” in the hot Caribbean sun & warm tropical water is a special treat!
The brilliant storyline is an awesome bonus! Lol ;)
The “creepy” aspect came as a total surprise & made Book 2 so fantastic!
On to Book 3 & more fun in the sun!….

The adventures of Fin Fleming continue when she discovers the site of sunken treasure first found by her deceased step-father, Ray. He never brought up the treasure, including the queen's tiara, since he said it was cursed. Fin convinces her mother, the famous oceanographer Maddy Fleming, the director of an underwater oceanographic institute in the Cayman Islands, to back the exposition and lands a contract with a magazine to film the search and recovery effort. But unfortunate events dog the team of divers, and Fin begins to think that the curse of sorrow, betrayal, and death by drowning, is real. Full of twists and turns. A good read.

What an action packed story! I loved every second! This one picks up after the end of the last book. I enjoyed the treasure hunt and all of the crazy characters interactions. I am not sure adding Lily back into the mix was necessary as there is plenty of suspicion on other people. I was surprised there is no conclusion to the drug story unless they will come back next time. The underwater scenes are my favorite. Liam is a shock and a surprise. On to the next

Fin Fleming’s adventures continue after she discovers the geographical coordinates of the pirate treasure her deceased stepfather always joked about. In addition to being a really enjoyable story, this book is filled with information about scuba diving. If you enjoy non-stop action, you will love this book!

Enjoyed this second book in the series. Incidents in the beginning were never explained, but maybe they will be cleared up in the future.

The seaman superstitions are crazy fun. Lots of great characters and diving scenes. I love how Sharon teaches you about diving along with the story line. Fast paced and hard to put down.
