This is a steamy, second chance romance that guarantees an HAE. Unbelievable, book one in the Heroes of Calvano Security series is a complete story.
USA Today Best Selling Romance Author Nikki Rome has been a romance junky since a young age. As a girl she reached for book after book, looking for that happily ever after she always believed in. She loves all forms of romance and you can find her latest read not far from her reach.
Nikki writes contemporary romance with a touch of danger and kink. Her love of realistic characters who face real problems provides a story that touches the hearts of many. As a writer, reader and lover of words, it only made sense that she publish her stories.
Now years letter she owns and manages Smut Lovers: The Community. A group of like minded individuals that come together to talk about their love of all things smut. You can find her hosting Smut Lovers: The Podcast or running Smut Lovers: The Conference. Either way you know she'll always be talking about her love of books.
Unbelievable is a debut novel by Nikki Rome and it was a fast-paced romance that any reader of the tropes will love! Christy has lost her trust in men, rightly so, and wants nothing to do with Jason, even though she's been in love with him since high school. When he texts and asks to meet her, she doesn't know why, but she also knows it's not a smart idea.
It has taken Jason a long time to come to the realization that he's in love with Christy. Like a stint in the military and starting his own security firm number of years. Now he knows, though, and he wants her back in his life. He knows he screwed up, and he's ready to make amends. He just has no idea how damaged Christy is.
What ensues from their first meeting is two people reconnecting in a way that will touch your heart. Christy's journey to find safety again with Jason isn't without difficulty, but she knows he will always be there for her.
I do want to mention that while I found the romance plot well told, the brevity of this novel made it difficult to get a handle on what Calvano Security actually does. The reader only gets a glimpse into what they do when they did something that was not even legal and then the rest is glossed over. I hope in the next books the author gives us a better idea of what their jobs are other than following people in cars and standing at doors. There was also some really confusing information about real estate buying and selling that made so little sense for a security firm to be involved in. Maybe if the author clarifies what this 'security firm' is other than buying safe houses (For what, I still don't know) then it would make much more sense.
I give Unbelievable five stars as a debut novel from an author everyone should keep an eye on! I look forward to the second book in the series!
What a great debut novel! You can tell that the author is an avid romance reader because she translates all the angst and sensuality romance readers crave into this first novel. The dual POV writing style was perfect to get a glimpse into both main characters' inner musings. I could feel the emotion between the two and whey they finally gave into their passion, the words all but sizzled off the page. I was excited to see this is the first in a 6 book series and I can't wait to read the others!
Christy and Jason were best friends and added with benefits in their relationship while they were still in school. Jason was I the wrong path and needed to pull his self together. He left for the military and told Christy he did not feel love for her the way she did for him.
It took Christy a long time to get over Jason and she never loved anyone since Jason. She had a horrible past relationship that ended with Christy in therapy and afraid of men.
Jason shows up out of the blue wanting Christy back in his life. Christy is scared because she still loves Jason. After some ups and downs they work out some of their past demons and move forward together.
This is a short story under 200 pages but out was a nice love story with a lot of strength and determination.
This is my first read from this author and the story was wonderful. This was an emotional read due to the damage that Christy and gone through. Happy to see that she and Jason were able to work through things and get their HEA.
I really enjoyed how these characters found their way back to each other. The author handled complex and emotional subject matter with care and concern while weaving in the love of a good man. I highly recommend.
I like stories that when you finish you have a better understanding of something, and this story did just that. The characters were well written and the plot was Simple but well written as well. We have a woman That has been through a trauma that she doesn't talk about, 1st mistake. Then you have a man they grew up with her that loved Being with her but was not in love with her at the time. Then you have her trauma that she's suffered and he tries to help her through it. I enjoyed this quick read and couldn't put it down till I finished it. I hope you enjoyed as much as I did.
I liked the book and the story so much but the mistakes took the enjoyment out of reading it. Multiple times I had to go back and reread only to find out the author made a mistake, not me. 😕
I was going to give only 3 stars to what could have easily been a 5 star review but decided on going with 4. With a good editor or even a dedicated beta team this book, this series would be amazing. Unfortunately the problems continued into book 2 and by 3 when the author kept getting the female MC’s name wrong, I was done. I have all the books but won’t continue. Not even leaving reviews for 2 & 3 because they would go lower and lower.
Just a tip, if you’re going to use twin sisters in two books, make sure you’re using the right twin’s name in the second book. You kept saying Andie’s name when talking about Avery. So confusing.
Not recommending. Not reading more of the series. Maybe IF she edits the books I’ll read the others but that is so rare in the indie community. Most see it as a waste of time. I see it as a missed opportunity by losing potential fans. ☹️
Christy is an attorney who is a badass in the courtroom. Jason is ex military who now owns a security company. They were friends when they were teenagers. They never labeled their relationship, it was more like friends with benefits, but she wanted more and she when told him that she loved him he didn’t return the feelings. She was embarrassed and left for college. One day out of the blue Jason contact Christy and she freaked out. After she talked to her therapist and her best friend she agreed to see him. She was really jumpy when he tried to touch her and she kept her distance. What happed to her for her to act this way? Will she tell Jason? This book was really good and I loved the relationship between Jason and Christy and what he goes through to make Christy comfortable with him.
This was a new to me author and series starter. The storyline was plausible and had some suspense. There were times that it came across as forced or cheesy. I detest exclamation points and there were a lot in this story so that took some getting used to.
While this wasn't my favorite book, I still appreciate this author and her hard work. I can't write to save my life so kudos to her for this book. Even though it's not my favorite doesn't mean someone else won't like it. Therein lies the beauty and magic of books.
This is the first book I’ve read of Nikki Rome, and I think she has some great potential. The storyline was quite good but she needs to have the story run through an editor or proofreader.
The biggest difficulty I had was the lack of contractions in the dialogue making it seem unnatural. As in “I know what you are doing and I do not like it” instead of “I know what you’re doing and I don’t like it” (this isn’t from the text, it’s just an example).
I think Ms Rome has a lot of promise. She just needs some editing. I’m sure to read more of her down the track.
A big meh!!! I didn’t see any real interest from H, I didn’t understand why after eight years H reached for her, still I appreciated it was H who did the first move, she seemed to me that has had moved on, so… for me it’s not very romantic, A lot of inner monologue and thoughts and only a few confrontations about their past together, Again she is the one saying Sorry when H was the horny teenager who pushed her away with countless women… mehhhhh,
I keep trying because I have a thing for security firms!

IT WAS A BIT UNBELIEVABLE BUT A NICE SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE, SEXUALLY EXPLICIT BUT NOT OVERLY DONE. I ENJOYED BUT A COUPLE OF THINGS BOTHERED ME. 1.) HOW DO YOU GRABE HAIR ON A BALD-HEADED MAN (maybe I missed somethin'). 2.) THE CONSTANT WAY THEY ANSWERED SAYING "YA", IT JUST SEEMED SILLY TO ME, I WISH THEY HAD JUST SAID YES OR OK. GRRR! ;D
I think for a debut novel, this book was pretty good. It did have some cliche points in there and some parts seemed rushed, but overall not bad. Definitely some great bones. The fact the picture didn’t match his description bugged me some too. Lol. But I’m looking forward to the next book.
This is a book about second chances at love. What they say is true you never know what you have until you have lost it. Jason hadn't realized how much Christy meant to him until she was out of his life. The trauma she went through and came out on the other side battered and abused half the person she was. Sometimes it takes love to heal you and make you whole again.
Unbelievable, book one in the Heroes of Calvano Security series. Jason Calvano rules his security empire with an iron fist. Successful in every way, he refuses to take no for an answer. When he crosses paths with the one woman he has never forgotten, he fights like hell to get her back.
There’s a lot going on, a sad history between Jason ans Christy and his slight stumble at identifying his own feelings makes the beginning tense, but he recognizes his true feelings pretty quickly and once he does it’s total all in 100% there for her. Lots of excitement and a very sweet ending.
Unbelievable is a good story but the author could have done a better job with describing the characters a little more. The story itself is really good, I just feel like either the author is new or needs a better editor.
This book has danger, suspence and a little romance, keeps you turning the page to see what happens next until the very last page, looking forward to reading more books from this author
Unbelievable (Hero’s of Calvano Security) by Nikki Rome has some serious awesome plot twists. I love the action in a romance story. This books has it all, action, spice and lots of back and forth banter. This a second chance romance with a lot to offer. This was my first book by Nikki and I couldn’t put it down. I am looking forward to exploring more in this series.
