The last thing Chloe Simpson expected was to be declared the love of Tristian Sanchester’s life at the altar on his wedding to her sister’s best friend.
Having not even seen him before, she is shocked at the very ridiculous turn of events as she tries to convince her parents that she had never seen the man in her entire life.
But when you tell a lie in church, it is very easy for people to take it as the actual truth. Or maybe Tristan Sanchester was telling the truth? What was supposed to be a happy event turned out to be her worst nightmare.
Chloe is soon shoved into a world of lies, betrayals, secrets, and one she didn’t expect, true love, as she tries to figure out who Tristian Sanchester was and why he told that lie in the church. She soon learns that a lie could cost someone everything, even their life.
Right from the church scene in the beginning, I was pulled into the story. Chloe’s storyline was very interesting and I loved that there was a very detailed past that helped me understand her as a character. The same thing goes from Tristan. He especially had great character development that made me actually like him in the end.
The secrets were very interesting. Tristan’s past wasn’t revealed till later in the book and the hints we got just made me more excited to find out what happened to him. I did shed a few tears after he told the truth and understood why he reacted the way he did to certain. Things.
I couldn’t have predicted the plot twist. I thought it was a great reveal and definitely increased my trust issues with a few of the characters.
My only problem was that I did spot a few errors as in some words were missing but that could’ve been since I got the arc copy.
3.5⭐ Whoa, that was nice surprise. For a moment, I thought it was gonna turn into Ugly Love but it took a turn. Plot is good but the writing could've been better.
Sorry, but this book just didn't make any sense to me. The plot is quite poorly developed, even though in the beginning I was hooked to the story and felt enraged on the behalf of Chloe. Finishing this book was painful.
wow wow wow wow what a book! From the very beginning with the church scene you are automatically pulled into the story. This book has so many twist and turns you will not see coming at all. That final big plot twist at the end? I did not expect that. Literally had to take a moment to re read it to make sure I wasn’t going crazy.
I really really really wish I could hug Tristan and Chloe. They deserve so much better. There back stories truly hurt me. Tristan… I hated you at first. I didn’t understand why you were doing what you were doing so I hated you for it. But then he slowly, SLOWLY, started to open (let me add, HE SLOWLY started opening up) I understood more about the situation. My girl Chloe deserves the world. She’s strong and would fight for what she wants something I loved about her.
Omg and how the title went with the storyline? Absolutely love!!!!
Right from the start, when I first discovered this book, I was pulled into the story. The first few chapters didn't even give me enough time to panic for Chloe. Her emotions corresponded with what she had been through.
I was provided with the ARC by the author, courtesy of BookFunnel, and I finished the book in one sitting. Having read the earlier version too, I must say that this is a book worth reading. The romance is good and the author keeps the mystery alive for a long time. It's a good read and I'll recommend it for anyone who is in a book slump.
I tired explaining this book to one of my friends, I couldn’t, it’s so complex and full of different and twisted aspects. It’s somewhat a good mind-fu*ker. You could describe it as strangers to hate to friends to lovers to hate to strangers (with-shared-memories) yet it still doesn’t some it all up. There is so many layers to this book and it keeps building and unraveling and building and unraveling and so on. It’s…wow
What a strange book! It felt very rushed and I felt the writing was very child like at times... and that ending was truly awful like a temper tantrum. I would not recommend this book.
I disliked this book. It was good and addicting to get into but Tristian really ruined the book for me. He was just so abusive and I am glad Chloe got out in the end. There’s another book to this series so I hope Tristian gets his act together but still.

The story is actually pretty good. Good enough to get a 4.5 star from me.
People make mistakes and they promise to not do it again in future, but ends up doing it all over again. I really like how the FMC didn't take a 'Oh I sometimes hate this guy but he's pretty hot too so I am going to ignore every single mistake he makes, pretty baddass right?' way and forgave him.
There were a lot of feeling I felt when I read this, I was annoyed at moments and wanted to scream at Tristan to stop hiding it all. I was both laughing and rolling my eyes at the silly things Chloe did, she was supposed to be 20 not 5. I admit, she made it really hard to like her in the beginning with her stupid decisions but in end, I really liked how it turned out.
Chloe's friendship with Vina is one of the best things to look forward to this book. I really loved how even after getting dumped so many problems from her friend, Vina still gave great advice everytime. We all do need a Vina in our life.
I liked Adrian a lot but it was still a stupid move on his part. Like dude, DON'T GIVE FALSE HOPE TO A GIRL! And he took it too far when he proposed to Karen in FRONT of Chloe.
Let's talk about sex scenes now.
The sex scenes my God... I would say that they weren't hot at all but funny as hell.
Like whattt?
He thrust deep into me with no warning. I arched my back and yelped in pain. My breathing ceased. I hadn’t been prepared for that.
And our lovely Tristan a few moments later
“I don’t want it to hurt,” he said, still holding back.
Uhmm... Author, care to explain this a bit please?
Just a warning, if you are looking for a hot as sin book which has wowish hottie scenes in every chapter, sadly this book isn't for you.
Let's talk about our main characters a bit yeah?
Tristan is our handsome, rich MC with a really big D [My sincere thanks to the author for not describing how HUGE it was and ending the 'scenes' quickly.] He's stupid, at times. Stubborn, at times but be warned, our FMC will do anything to find out the truth.
Chloe is a rule breaker from a rule following, status loving family who would rather leave their child on the streets over something that tarnished their reputation than listen to her truth. She made a lot, and by a lot I mean A LOT of stupid mistakes in her life. She's not an alcoholic but loves to empty Tristan's Cellar.
While I really loved this story and would continue to look forward to seeing the next one, it was frustrating at times. And I had a lot of important things to do which weren't supposed to be delayed at all getting late because of this book. That's why I am giving it 4.5 stars instead of 4.

It was a good book with good plot, story line, language, pace, character development and everything. I loved evey bit of it. I can't even count how many times I cried or how many emotions I felt at that time. All in all I just love the book. I was fully engrossed in this as if I'm seeing it in person... Good work Juliet! Keep it up
“I choose to release the past and look toward the good that awaits me”
Summary: A lie in church is about Chloe, who has gone through endless cycles of horrible exes who have left her with countless traumatic experiences. Now, she meets Tristan who makes her life absolutely miserable, she looses her first nice boyfriend, family and house because of him. Is Tristan any different than her other exes? Read to find out ;)
Review: Is it the best written book I have ever read? Absolutely not. Does it have the best plot twists and plot overall? Undoubtedly yes. Although the characters weren't developed THAT well, the plot made up for it. This book is like a mixture of Ugly love and It ends with us by Coolleen Hoover. SPOILER ALERT!
Tristan is a photocopy of Miles (from Ugly love), they both accidentally killed their child and that led to them loosing their loved one, and are both closed off as fuck. And, I absolutely DESPISE both of these assholes. Whereas the decision that Chloe makes at the end and decides to break the cycle and leave Tristan proves that she and Lily (from It ends with us) are quite similar. Although, I have to say I love lily way more than Chloe.
The reason why I took away two stars is because of Tristan and because the writing wasn't really that great. The reason why I have given it 3 stars is because the plot is just fabulous. Do I recommend this book? Sure, why not.
Tropes: -Enemies to lovers -I hate everyone but you -Grumpy/sunshine -Bully romance -Insta love -Fake dating -Forced proximity -Strangers to lovers -Age gap
Wow... everything about this book was horrible. I really can't name one redeeming quality.
There may be slight spoilers.
The set up had so much potential but it was just thrown away and became such a hot mess. The writing was very poor and repetitive, at times it felt like a high school creative writing essay. But it's not a big deal because I think this is the author's debut novel.
The church scene was really interesting because it made me think about all the places the plot could go. Who is this man? Why was he doing this? Did they actually know each other? It made my mind wander to so many possibilities. But after she moves into his house, literally NOTHING happens, for like the entire first half. It's just her getting up everyday and eating and doing classes basically. Then we start getting hints of his past but i didn't care for it because it didn't make up for how much he hurt her throughout the book. Very anticlimactic overall. I know some people say this book had so many layers and so much was happening but I don't understand that at all. Barely anything happened tbh, it tried so hard to be deep but it was just flat.
Above all, I respect the author and everyone who enjoyed this book but it really was not for me at all.

The amount of times I read this book and never get tried of it. I’m so grateful I found this book and the author. It’s so intriguing and mysterious and romantic and just 😆😆😆.
Characters: 4.5/5 I won’t lie Chloe was a hard character to like sometimes but, thats what made her, a unique character with flaws. Other than that the characters felt very real to me which it always a win win as a character driven reader. Too bad I don’t have a friend like Vixen 🥺
Plot: 5/5👍🏼😁🤭 Good plot. The pasting was quick.
Romance 4/5 ❤️❤️ They could be toxic at points
The banter: 5/5 😏
Overall I love this book and I think you will too if you love a good plot twist in a romance story.
I truly loved the story. I so hope there will be a part 2. I would have loved to give 5 stars as it is so deserving of it, but I was not happy with the ending. I read a book for a HEA. I do understand the ending though, but if I knew I was not getting a HEA I would have skipped the book and if I knew there will be a part 2 I would have waited before reading part 1. I read almost a book a day and by the time the next part comes out you forgot the plot. So for this reason only I am not giving the book 5 stars. But this was a job well done with really minor mistakes. So kudos to the author! Hope to read more books from the author. It was different from the books out there and it captivated me from the start.
I went in almost blind, seeing this book on instagram and damn... since I had no expectations, it blowed them out of the roof. As in every book, there were some things I wasn't the biggest fan of, but... the good ones overweighed the bad ones.
2⭐️ while i liked the concept of the book, what the eff? it was very annoying at some point due to the exaggerated repetition. and i can’t say that i liked any of the characters. the overall execution could have been better. along with the writing style. and the character development. oh, and definitely the ending. i’m just a confused mess
This was a very confusing book. It was hard to keep up with what was happening, and the ending was just weird? The story felt all over the place and rushed at times. The beginning definitely captured my attention, as I initially found this book on Wattpad. I am unsure if I will read the 2nd book in the series.
This book has a great plot, buts it’s very poorly developed. It had some great potential with all the drama and twists. It did wow me but at times I felt like I needed more or for it to be told with a different delivery.
Very good story, hopefully I can read more of the authors works in the future, she’s genius.
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ✯✯✯✯✯ 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Juliet Ever's debut novel, A Lie In Church, will make sure to leave you as a sobbing mess until the very end.
From the very beginning, I was hooked. And I gotta admit, the moment I reached "the end", I was left speechless.
I love the character of Chloe, literally one of my favourite female leads ever! And her past? Holy damn if I could, I'd have probably given her the tightest hug ever. My baby had to go through so much, she literally deserves the entire world 🥺
Tristan, damn this man is dark af 💀 A hottie but dark. I do feel bad for him for such a painful past but by the end of the book, I don't know what to feel about him. I like him, but I guess it's going to take me a second book to love him.
The romance, jeez is it hot in here or what? I was expecting it to be adorable but not so sizzling hot *fans myself*. If you have read it on Wattpad before, well let me tell you one thing, the romance in this version is 1000 times hotter and better than the wattpad version!!! And damn the fact they both have such painful pasts, bye lemme go and cry now-
The friendship, aka one of the best parts of this book, is literally ✨chef kisses✨ I loved how no one believed Chloe but her best friend, Vina. We all deserve a friend like her in our life!!! Apart from Chloe, Vina is probably my favourite character from this book!!!
The best part of this book is the plot twist. My jaw literally dropped when I reached that page, even though I've read this book before. Like Jeez, I wasn't ready for that. The amount of lies, betrayal and mysteries this book holds 💀 Lord have mercy on those who's going to read this book for the first time (don't get scared by my words).
And Chloe's entirely family (especially her sister and mother) is lucky they exist between the pages, or else I'd have ✨unalived✨ them 😊 #SorryNotSorry
This book made me scream, laugh, scared, anxious, fall in love, gave me a broken heart which is yet to heal and emotional af 💔
If you love an adorable and strong female lead, hot male lead with a hot best friend, sizzling hot romance, strong friendship, toxic family, lies, betrayal, mysteries and a jaw dropping plot twists, then I beg you to read this book!!!! I can assure you that you're gonna love this book!!!
I had to wait until after I finished the book to write my review. The second book in this series, which I'm almost finished with, is wonderful as well. Since there was a lot of childish behavior, I'm only giving this four instead of five stars. And while I didn't particularly like Tristan, I also didn't care for Chloe. She is actually one of this book's biggest issues for me. She was very immature, which was understandable given her age and the fact that she was only 20 years old, but she was also very nosy and believed she had a right to know a lot about his past. However, she also frequently referred to the fact that they had only recently begun dating and had only been together for about three to four months. In my opinion, this is insufficient time for anyone in a relationship to feel entitled to another person's past. Even if she did speak about her own, it still seems like she was forcing the issue, and I believe they hadn't been dating long enough for her to be doing so.
Additionally, I think that she didn't think about how he would feel if she continued to bring up his past. She seemed to feel very entitled to someone's past and their trauma with the way she was pushing, and it was just very wrong for her to continually try to go behind his back to find out his past. I believe that was one of the reasons I gave it four stars. But I can accept that he wasn't entirely faultless either. But really, he made several attempts to establish boundaries regarding his past, but she didn't seem to care. Additionally, there have been numerous mentions of rehab and how he attempted to recover, and I believe that should also count for something. When he had that trauma-induced breakdown and hurt her, he immediately sought help. Because of this, I don't have a strong dislike for him, but I will admit that the ending was very satisfying, and I was shocked to learn why he had picked her over everyone else.
I can see why he picked her because she was essentially a familiar face, but reading it to learn more about his past is what made me give it four stars. Nevertheless, I can appreciate that he wasn't entirely faultless either. However, despite his repeated attempts to establish boundaries regarding his past, she didn't seem to mind. And, let's face it, there were times when she was downright annoying.

I feel as though this had a lot of potential to be amazing but the poor writing style made it lose its appeal. What this was supposed to be was a young woman who has made mistakes in the past realising how toxic her family is, while also having to deal with Stockholm Syndrome of sorts.
It chose to negotiate with darker themes such as deception, rape and PTSD, yet it felt hard to connect with it much because of the comedic relief statements and crisp dialogue. Vina, although she was perhaps the most decent character in the novel, was treated like comedic relief. The motive for her existence was to retell the events that had previously occurred in the protagonist’s life and have her make more lighthearted comments about them or to give simple advice that anyone could have thought of.
The author could have built the tension by depicting wounds, scars or certain events in a metaphorical manner which would result in the subplots having more personality and life to them.
I feel like many characters should be fleshed out more. Let us take Karen as an example. In all honesty, she had made a rather adequate first impression. I perceive her story as more of a revenge tale and it most certainly would have been intriguing to see her painted in such an aspect in a more realistic and unbiased perspective.
The pacing had its setbacks. Occasionally, the words merely felt like a string of letters arranged in a perceivable manner with scarce pertinence to the plot, its sole purpose being a means to fill the space between two premeditated plot points. Yet in other occurrences, the pace felt rapid, too rapid. This was especially evident in the last few chapters where it was nearly an information dump.
Considering the more nature scenes in the book, this is intended for an older audience. But if you remove the mature scenes, the text feels like something intended for a person with a third-grade reading level. Expanding the vocabulary would do more justice to the age rating.
However, despite its discernible shortcomings, this is far more captivating than many other Wattpad novels I have had the chance to read.
I first read this on Wattpad, my first ever book to read from the app.
of course, 14 years old me would be so thrilled with all the "suspense" this book holds. but, I guess, the more you grow, the more you learn.
it's not clicking anymore. yes, there are improvements from the version from Wattpad. but, there are so many unnecessary lines.
for example, (spoiler) she was breaking down, yes? with the tears and all. but, she had the luxury of describing how "wonderful," "elegant," and "glamorous," the place she's staying in. like, i get it, but, at the same time, aren't you supposed to be sobbing and crying your heart out? and those thoughts withing thoughts, the italicized lines, its not doing it for me. cringey.
speaking for my 14y/o self, tristan deserved better. and karen is the best character, i said it, yes.
i will still be reading the sequel when it comes out, and, hopefully, it's better than this one.
So this book was very interesting and the plot twists really get you there and you when you read it you will be like wow ,oh my gosh,no way. You’re going to feel like you’re on a roller coaster because you never know what can happen in the next chapter and how it’s going to play out. Chloe is an interesting character off the bat as she is strong and intelligent but sometimes you wish as you read the book that she could’ve been more realistic and thought about her actions through but I mean we all are human. Tristan is someone I have a love hate relationship with because he acted like trash sometimes and him being so closed off made it worst. I will say that there are some moments from him where he is a good guy it’s just overall you know it’s a red flag at the end of the day. Something I hate about this book was Chloe‘s family because they were trash and everyone surrounding her except her best friend who I love dearly because she stood by with Chloe through thick and thin so she is amazing. Overall it’s nice but sometimes you just wish it was better.
I didn’t know this book was published so of course I had to re-read it outside of Wattpad.
And I fell in love with the all characters. From the beginning I was captivated by the book. It had been so long since I read it that it felt like reading it for the first time again.
The character development is can be see through each chapter… the openness and communication does take a long and slow… SLOW time to develop but its there.
If there is something I didnt like was that it wasn’t a Dual POV. Maybe that’s one of the reason I gave this book 4/5 ⭐️
I was smiling the entire book! Chloe is such a boss girl…. Love her. Tristan on the other hand… he’s everything you could want but at the same time not.
The plot twist…. They kept me going, like every time I would guess something and I would be wrong and sometimes right, which not many books do that to me.
The ending… I cried there wasn’t a reason for me to cry but I did. As soon as I saw how many pages I had left I should of known what was coming but I still I didn’t. :)
The book is the one of the best book I have ever read, it's so freaking good. The young girl lead Chloe and the male lead Tristan is polar opposite. He was strange at first and the things he did wanted me to make him strangle. And Chloe a fair amount fierce, modest, sassy and kind girl and the things hooked me up was her strong character how she fight for herself. Apart from Tristan and Chloe the character named Adrian and Balvina was the second attraction of this masterpiece.
No words is enough for this book. When I started reading this book for first time I found myself lost in this book as if I have witnessed this whole thing also I felt like I was a hidden character amongst them.
I have read this book for fifth time yet I couldn't get over it. The story is a rollercoaster of emotions it will make you cry, laugh, sad, angry, every thing but it had never bored me not even a bit.
Thanks to the fabulous author for written this story.
This was not my cup of tea, I forced myself to read it after a certain point. The idea was good, the first 5 chapters or so were even decent. I don't mind books that are not the best in quality, in fact I sometimes prefer them but this was beyond that. The plot was very lazy in the execution, the main character is insufferable she's annoying and nosey half the time when she needs to be understanding and then in times where it makes sense for her to be that way she just is passive and doesn't care. The plot itself is inconstant, some areas drag on forever and things that may need more explanation happen within a paragraph. I wanted to love this book I wanted to even like it and I held out hoping that maybe there would be some kind of magical character development that would make the story better but I was wrong, save your self the trouble.
