Bad Beat is book 7 in the series A Good Run Of Bad Luck and should be read in order. This book also precedes Parker and GoodKnight from The Reed Security series.
Finn My wife and child were gone in the blink of an eye, and I wasn't there for it. I gave up all I owned, sold everything I had just to find them, but after two years I had no more resources. I finally admitted they were never coming home. I hit rock bottom, living on the streets until a kind woman with a basket of muffins changed my life. I had to decide, would I choose life or death? I chose life and turned mine around. Five years later, I was finally learning to live again. But when a massive snowstorm hit, I got the shock of my life.

- This is a TRIANGLE. Another mislabeled read! - Cheating heroine and she sucked rocks in a BIG way! Can you say whiner? Lol. - This is NOT in any way a ROMANCE – not one tiny bit! - I know this is fiction, but come on! A 10 year old child who is the ADULT in this story AND a killing machine? Pleeese! - Plot? Suspense? Romance? Still looking for it. - Conclusion, redemption, HEA? Yep, keep waiting till the cows come home.
Finn & Addie (MCs) are married & have a 10 yr old child (Pax). 5 yrs prior, while he was on deployment in the Army on a secret mission, his good buddy John, hung out all the time with his wife and he didn’t like it. John gets into trouble and he has bad guys after him and for whatever reason that was never clear, he decides that heroine & her son are in danger so they run away for 5 years and Hero thinks his wife & child died!
She of course doesn’t leave him a note or anything and while on the run with the “friend”, she falls in love with him and her son starts to think of him as his Father cause this dude decides to act like one. John “supposedly” dies and now all of a sudden she found her husband and goes to him to protect them because she’s an idiot and needs a man to save her. Lol. Enough said. The quotes below tell the full story.
John had been my lifeline for so long, I couldn’t imagine life without him. “John!” I cried harder. “Stay with me,” I whispered. “Don’t leave me.” Tears streamed down my face, mingling with his blood. My hands were coated in it, staining me with the guilt of knowing that I let him down. We were a team. We protected each other, and with his dying breath, he continued to protect me. Kissing him softly on the lips, I remembered his warm hugs, how protected and loved I felt in his arms. Now he was gone. Sniffling, I wiped the wetness from my face and sucked back the tears. “Goodbye, John. I love you.” -------- Walking over to my bag, I pulled out the photo of Patrick and me with John. I didn’t dare bring it out when Patrick was around. He was dealing with John’s loss well, and bringing up the fact that the only man he remembered was now gone might send him into a tailspin. Pressing my lips to the picture, I tucked it away and slipped into bed. I stared at the ceiling for a long time, missing John’s arms wrapped around me. He was more than my friend. He was my comfort and a man I loved deeply. And the closer we got to our destination, the more guilt I felt. Nothing about this situation was fair, but the worst was yet to come. --- His jaw hardened and he turned away. He had every right to be angry, but he had to understand that we didn’t have a choice. It was either life or death, and I chose life. My son meant everything to me, and Finn was deployed. He couldn’t have helped us, no matter how much I wanted to believe he could. In the end, it was John that saved us, John that risked his life to keep us safe for the past five years. And he paid with his life. Finn knelt down in front of me, taking my hands in his. “Addie, you gotta help me out here. I’m feeling a little lost. In all those years, why didn’t you find me?” “We tried. We were running for a long time before we could finally settle down somewhere. Finn, trust me, I didn’t want to leave you.” “But you didn’t find me,” he said angrily. “By the time we settled down, the house was gone. Your number wasn’t active. I had no idea how to find you. You have to believe me, my goal was always to get back to you. John—” “John,” he spat. “It always comes back to John.” “Hey, he took care of us,” Patrick snapped. “He was there when you weren’t.” “I didn’t even know you were missing,” I shouted. “Because you chose to leave. I don’t even remember you. Every memory I have is with John. He was my father. He was there for me when Mom and I had no one else.” “He took you from me!” he yelled. “Do you get that? You’re my son, and he took you!” “He was protecting us,” I intervened. “John, we would have been dead without him.” He shook his head at me. “Finn. My name is Finn, Addie. I’m your husband. I’m the man you married.” Staring at the ground, I felt horrible for my mistake. “I’m sorry.” --------- I blinked, stepping back slightly. I wanted to argue with him that he was wrong, but he wasn’t. He thought we were dead, and upon seeing us, he immediately tried to help us. But I had done nothing to reassure him or our son that everything would be okay. I’d only thought about John and the fact that he was gone. What did that say about me, about our marriage? I could feel the tension coming off Finn as he stared me down. He was pissed, and it was all my fault. Sure, I had it rough, but I’d at least had my son and someone to help us through it. Finn had no one. Upon returning from war, he thought we were all dead. He thought he lost his family, and when his family returned… I covered my mouth, biting back the tears building inside. But the sad thing was, I wasn’t sure if I was upset over how I handled seeing my husband again or the loss of John, which I still felt deeply. “Look,” Finn sighed. “I understand that you’re confused. I’m not trying to say you shouldn’t be upset over John’s death. But I’m your husband. I’m the one you married. I’m the one you had a son with. I finally have you back, but it doesn’t feel like I’m the one you want to be with.” --------- “Your name isn’t Patrick, and now that we’re back with your dad…it’s just…we chose the name Paxton together. It’s time you took that name back.” He shoved back from the table, taking his plate to the sink. “John gave me the name Patrick. I’m not using the name Paxton. It’s stupid anyway.” “It is not,” I argued, getting up and walking over to him. “And John isn’t your father.” “He’s the only man I’ve ever known,” he shot back. “Finn doesn’t get to walk back into our lives and suddenly be my dad again.” “He never left. We did. This hasn’t been easy on your dad. He’s trying to wrap his brain around the fact that we’re not dead. All I’m asking is that you try to understand things from his point of view. He loves you very much, and to suddenly have you back…We all have to try.” “Like you’re trying?” he asked. “I’m not stupid, Mom. I know you were in love with John. I saw it every day. The only reason you want Finn back is because John is dead.” ---------- I’m sorry, Finn. I shouldn’t even be thinking about him.” “Why? Because over the past five years you fell in love with him?” I ducked my head in shame, but he slid his fingers under my chin and lifted my face so he could see me. “You deserve so much better than me,” I murmured. ----- He nodded, leaning in to kiss me. I hoped he could move past this. I knew it would be hard to step back into the shoes that another man temporarily filled, but I needed him to try. If only for the sake of our son. He needed stability, and once this was over, I planned on giving him that.
------- I was finally starting to come around to the fact that we were finally together as a family, but thoughts of John were always lingering, and I worried he would never truly go away.

This book literally starts off with a bang, like an 8 second bull out of the chute! Action, mystery, romance. Refinding the forever you thought you lost. Great book and the banter is once again right at the top. I love this un named town they all live in 😂
Let's start off saying this is one of my favorite series of all time, just loving it, I have never laughed so hard throughout an entire series.
This story was a bit more intense and although it made us laugh time and time again, there was a seriousness to it. Non-stop suspense this time around.
Finn, we loved him and how he stepped up to the plate and how he asked for help when it came to protecting his family. Loved the others being involved, especially Nathan, that man was so out of his element it was comical.
Addie what a bada** she was smart and determined and learned how to survive and adapt to most situations. She was one tough cookie and quite the momma bear. Pax was no slouch either for a boy ten years old he grew up way too fast but, sometimes you have to adapt when your life is on the line.
The story was emotional when it comes to Addie and Pax, and Finn the learning to be a family once again it was a bit rocky but, we have faith they will weather it.
Overall the story was suspenseful, the plot invigorating had a cast of awesome characters, and we loved the fact in this instance that the mystery was not quite solved yet. Although Addie and Finn's Pax's involvement was put to rest and there are a lot of questions and answers that will probably never be asked or answered, it is what it is. The mystery surrounding John whether he is alive or not remains a mystery but, in our heart of hearts, we are hoping he is alive and well to complete his mission. Love seeing some action between Mason and Jo we are hoping good things are coming their way. This series is a must-read.
Wow, this book was everything I was hoping for in Finn’s story. I love the Muffin Man in the other books, but his story really showed who he is and that he should not be dismissed as some guy that was living on the streets.
Finn was a Ranger in the army. He lost everything that ever mattered to him on his last deployment and when he returned home, he used everything he had to find it, but had no luck. Drained of everything he had, he’s living on the streets of NYC until a woman shows up and offers him muffins. This chance meeting is what Finn needed to start living his life again, so he moved to the small town outside of Chicago that the Cortell Brothers and the crazy towns folk live. Five years after his devastating loss, he gets the shock of his life on a dark, snowy road one night, and his true adventure takes off.
This story was one of my favorites. It’s not as funny or light as the others, but it was such a great read. I loved the real Finn showing himself and the way that Antonio, Jack, and Carter all came together to help Finn. It was full of action, danger, haunts, and as always, great characters. I didn’t want to like Addie at first, but she grew on me. I love these stories and while I have loved all of the books, I’ve read of Giulia Lagomarsino’s I think this book in the A Good Run of Bad Luck might be my favorite so far. The banter is always fun in her books, but the danger and intrigue keep getting better. I give this book a 5-star review and if I could do it, I would definitely give more. I do love the Muffin Man.
This book is exactly why I've stuck with this series from the get go. I knew my waiting would pay off and boy did it ever. In fact this book made this suspense junkie so happy that I couldn't NOT add it to my top reads of '22 list. Was definitely not what I was expecting going in, especially after some of the previous books, it definitely was a pleasant surprise and one I couldn't get enough of. I couldn't stop smiling the whole way through while I was on the edge of my seat madly turning pages. Hope we get more like this in the coming books, as this is where I personally find the author excels which is why I'm still reading the series despite some rom-com's splitting up the suspense.
This review contains possible spoilers. And bad language.
Chapter 2 and I’m on the edge of my seat already! Holy shit Addie. I’m not sure I like you much. Aww! He does love her!! Now’s a good time to go to sleep. Oh, thank god she didn’t sleep with him. Pax is a little shit. But I get it. I just realized I’m already on chapter 37 and my coffee is cold. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!!! Oh my god Giulia. Why must you? I need a nap and a Xanax.
The Muffin Man finally gets his story, and what a firecracker of a story it is. I was intrigued in the Muffin Man when he first popped up in Ace Magnets. I wanted to know more about him and what really happened to him, and this book definitely delivered.
Finn thought that he lost everything the day that he came home to find out that his wife and son were presumed dead. With nothing left to live for, he loses everything and even lands up on the streets. It is there that he meets crazy Abby (Corduroy's girl). She lights a spark on him that makes him want to rejoin the land of the living. He embraces his role at the local sherrif's department and even his new nickname "The Muffin Man". Life is going well, until a fatal snowstorm bring a blast from his past.
Addie and her son has been on the run for more years than she cares to remember. Every time she thinks that there safe, the bad guys turn up. Until she is left with one last resort. . .and that is to go back to the man that she left behind. She knows that things won't be easy, but she still loves him and this time she is willing to fight to keep her family together and safe.
This book tied in with what's been happening over at Reed Security, so it definitely answered my unanswered questions. It is one book that I couldn't put down, not even to eat. So it is one that you cannot miss.
So we are getting the Muffin Man's story. He's been lurking mysteriously since Corduroy's book and even showed up in our small Indiana town. He's now a deputy, and his life is about to be upended when his wife and child, who were presumed dead, show up. We get a suspenseful romp with echoes of Reed Security, Knight, and evil scientists. But more than that, we see Finn (Muffin Man's actual name) begin to rebuild the relationship he thought was gone with his wife and try to get to know his son all over again.
In addition, much to my delight, Mason and Jo seem to be getting their relationship straightened out. Antonio continues to be far more a good guy than a bad guy (like he sees himself), Andrew Cortell, for all his millennial-speak, is quite the computer whiz, and Nathan does not like to be taken out of his comfort zone. Once again, I love this series, and if Giulia can just keep dragging people to this small Indiana town to end up at Cortell brothers' poker nights and on the town Facebook page, I would be pretty happy.
This book is full on from the beginning until the end. It’s a wild ride and I am all for it!
It had a very ‘Reed Security’ feel to it, which is a previous series that has a connection to this one. It’s not a complaint by the way, it’s absolutely, 100% not a complaint. I love this book and I wish it wasn’t the end (I think it’s the last one in this particular series). I am going to miss these characters as much as I miss all of the others from the previous series’.
I absolutely loved discovering more about the ‘Muffin Man’, Finn and his family. If I had one complaint, it would be that I want more. That’s it, I want more!
Well, what can I say, this book was amazing, what a wild ride, Reed Security action and small town romance comedy all rolled together. Finn (Muffin man) & Addie find each other again after 5 years apart. Not a good idea to read in public though as I was cursing Giulia towards the end……”NO, she can’t do this again” or similar swear words 😂 but thankfully it went down a different path. Now I have to re read REED Security 😜 Thank you again Giulia for that amazing imagination 🥰
Damn if this book didn't just start out with some f'd up sh *t. What has to be going through Vinn's mind as he looks out and sees a Ghost from his past in the form of his wife and child..and if that isn't the kicker finding out that she left with said son and his best friend..John if he wasn't dead I'd say Vinn would have put him 6feet under..or is he? Giulia will do that to you leave you hanging and guessing and hoping that the scenario you come up with will be what happens and then bam what you get is nothing like you thought and your mind is blown when you actually read what her crazy mind has come up with..
Little Pax/Patrick is a bad-ass and looks like he could give Knight ( Reed Security)a run for his money..maybe a future son in law for one of Knights Princess's..oh how I'd love to read that. Can't wait for the next Gen of bad-asses. Hint Hint Giulia. But boy do you feel sorry for the kid he had to grow up way to fast and it seems John took way to many liberties with teaching him things no kid at the age of 10 should know. I wonder if he will ever feel like a normal kid playing around without a care in the world or if he will forever be looking in the shadows. ;(
Mary Anne strikes again and who wouldnt say "What the fuck is wrong with the people in this town?" Too. Haha Jack got alittle too much satisfaction out of that scene. Guilia I was so ready to shoot you my heart stopped beating for a minute I was cursing you to the heavens thinking you couldn't do us like this. Talk about a stressful read this book had me gripping my seat praying for my heart to slow down. I'm intrigued now to know who the new comers are could Shadow be just as deadly and scary as Knight was or more? And what will come of Blake Collins what mess will she uncover.
What is the Muffin Man's Secret? - It's Time we found out!
We met Finn Ryder, known to everyone as the Muffin Man, when he was homeless on the streets of NYC in Ace Magnets, Corduroy and Abbie's story. Finally he found his way to the small town and joined forces with Jack and Carter as a Deputy Sheriff.
Finn has a secret though, one he has kept from all but Jack. The real reason why he ended up on the streets. Five years ago he was a Ranger. Coming back from deployment he found that his wife and son were missing, presumed dead after a trip to Niagra Falls. He lost everything trying to find them, but finally he had started to live his life again, until a car accident one winters evening brings him the shock of his life.
Addie has been on the run now for five years with her son Pax, along with the man who saved them from certain death five years ago, John. John was Finn's best friend and served with him in the Rangers. But who are they running from and why? When they are caught up with again, Abbie and Pax are left alone trying to get to the one person who can protect them.
When they finally meet up again will things be the same as before she left, and can Finn protect them from the danger that follows?
This has been one of my favourite books in the Good Run of Bad Luck Series, especially how it links in with the final two books of the Reed Security Series. As this series has progressed we have seen certain characters grow throughout and in Bad Beat we see Antonio almost soften, I did say almost, he is still as badass as before but a little more mellow. Anyone who liked the Reed Security series will love this book as it reminds me so much of those books. Overall I loved this and for those who hoped for good things between Jo and Mason, don't give up that hope!
Giulia never disappoints with her griping books full of twists and turns that leaves your head spinning. Bad Beat gives us a story full of suspense, secrets, lies and love but is well worth the read.
Finn, who we met before and known as the muffin man, has spent years trying to find his family after he returned from duty. They just seemed to vanish off the face of the earth. After he had given up they walk right back into his life. Why now Where were they? Why did she not leave a message or get in contact? When he finds it that she is in danger he stops at nothing to help her and their son? Will he accept the help that he needs?
Addie is a strong, feisty, kicka$$ and independent woman that knows how to take care of herself and her son while on the rin. Seeing Finn again after all this time was difficult. When she tells Finn why they were on the run and who was with them, she could sense the jealousy and hate that Finn felt. How will she deal with seeing Finn again? Will the feelings for him resurface? When danger rears its ugly head what will she do?
Bad Beat had its funny moments but nothing like the other books in the series. Giulia had me sitting on the edge of my seat and my heart beating a little faster. The emotions were all over the place with Addie and Pax and what they went through and Finn with how he went from having everything to having absolutely nothing. This book is definitely one that will grab your attention right from the start and keep it throughout. The ending still had some unanswered questions but Addie, Finn and Pax's story was complete.
Guilia has done it yet again. She has given us a well written book with an exceptional storyline. But then if you have kept up with this series, you know that Muffin Man would deserve nothing less. His story is packed full of suspense, action, intrigue and love. Oh and of course, bouts of laughter with the craziness from Jack, Corduroy, Antonio and well all I can say is I simply loved Bad Beat.
Finn’s child that mysteriously disappeared 5 years ago while he was deployed overseas serving his country. Their disappearance completely devastated Finn. But even after all leads were dead and they were declared legally dead, Finn continued the search for years until he lost everything. Homeless and on the streets of NY is where he met Corduroy’s Abby. Her talk of small town life had him following her and becoming a sheriff’s deputy, working with Jack and Corduroy.
Finn, AKA the Muffin Man, gets the shock of his life when he stops to help a car that has slid off the snowy road. Inside are his wife and son that he hasn’t seen in over 5 years. Where have they been? Why haven’t they reached out to him? What’s going on? Finn not only gets his answers, not all of which he likes, but he is also in for the fight of his life. A fight to keep everything and everyone he loves safe.
Outstanding addition to the series. If you have started the Good Run of Bad Luck series, you really really need to. They are all so worth the read. I can’t recommend them enough.
He thought they were dead, until they showed up in his small town.
Do you know the Muffin Man? Finn is the new guy in town. You've met him prior, but now, he's here to stay. Being a military man was hard with a young family. When a tour of duty took him away from his family years ago, his best friend stepped in to help, or so you think. Addie and Pax were on the run. Trying to stay alive for years. Addie knew nothing but what she was told. Pax grew up without a father, or so we think. Everything he's learned, he learned to survive. Now with everything falling apart, and people on their trail, Addy and Pax need to make it to Indiana to find her long lost husband. She knows where he is after all this time.
Finn learns his family is alive, but it's not the reunion he wanted. Someone is after his family because of something they have or know. Now it's Finn's job to protect them. Something he didn't do years ago. With time running out, it's time to call the BIG GUNS.. Reed Security makes their appearance in this book, and let me tell you, it's all nonstop action from the get go.
You'll laugh, cry, and your anxiety might go through the roof, but in the end, everything is where it should be. The characters you love the most are always sticking their nose into everything, and with that, you have a a great story.
I have to say that Muffin Man's story is now my favorite in this series, as I NEVER NOT ONCE saw any of it coming but that's nothing new from the brilliant Giulia Lagomarsino. Finn (aka muffin man) has finally come back to life & is working with Jack & Corduroy trying to move forward from losing his family. He ends up witnessing an accident which had him coming face to face with his wife & son who he thought were dead which obviously shocked him to hell. I have to admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of Addie's at first because I thought she made some very questionable decisions while she was on the run with Finn's best friend, John. Of course there was serious danger to her, as this story came out of the gate at a dead run & never slowed down to be honest, but I do believe she could have done some things differently so Finn had every right to be angry with her for a very long time in my eyes. I guess since they were really trying to stay alive with danger stalking them all over the place, it made it easier to set that anger aside, especially with all the supporting cast like Antonio, who kept me rolling as usual. I have to say FINALLY GIULIA LAGOMARSINO for some answers that I've needed for a cool minute but I'll never tell (she knows what I'm talking about LOL). Anyway, I've gone on long enough as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Outstanding! One of my favorites of this series. Muffin Man aka Finn’s backstory is heartbreaking and when it catches up to his present it’s full of mystery, intrigue and danger as a couple of ghosts from his past appear. I love that Muffin Man goes from homeless to hunky to deputy sheriff over the course of this series and now he’s in fighter mode. His military training in needed when the bad guys show up in town. Of course, Antonio is at his best killing, maiming and torturing. Sweet! Jack and Corduroy are in the mix too when all the guys and one fierce gal protect Finn’s wife and son against an unknown enemy. Mason and Jo are a secondary story with the two coming to a realization when in hiding. Could love win out? The story is full of mystery, Intrigue, danger and drama along with the usual hilarious, crazy antics and banter with this bunch. The fast paced action is thrilling and the romance heartbreaking as Finn and Addie reconnect after years apart. Finn’s son Pax is a terrific character and mature beyond his years. Love him. It’s a race to the end with a heart stopping last chapter that has out crew triumphant. I can’t wait for more from these crazy town folks, heroes and heroines. Absolutely fantastic!
The story has laughs, pain, secrets, second chances, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below, I would recommend reading those books(s) first. Maintenance Required (The Cortell Brothers #1) Collateral Damage (The Cortell Brothers #2) Wanted Dead Or In Love (The Cortell Brothers #3) Textbook Approach (The Cortell Brothers #4) Priceless Ink (The Cortell Brothers #5) Tangled Web (The Cortell Brothers, #6) Dead Man's Hand (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1) Drawing Dead (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1.5) The Dirty (A Good Run of Bad Luck #2) Ace Magnets (A Good Run of Bad Luck #3) Four Horsemen (A Good Run of Bad Luck #4) The Nut Low (A Good Run of Bad Luck #5) Big Slick (A Good Run of Bad Luck #6)
Before reading this book, you should read the others in the series. This is Addie and Finn’s story. Finn lost everything and is totally broken. Someone helped him and he is slowing coming back to life that is until he sees something he never thought he would see again. This book is super-fast paced and will have you turning the pages until the last one. Lots of secrets uncovered. Tons of emotions and lots of banter with our favorite characters from other books.
How the heck does this series get better and better. First let me say this is book 8 of this series and you need to read in order plus you need to read the Cortell brothers series as well ( so get to binging ) You meet the Muffin Man in Cordoroy and Abbey’s book where he was just a homeless man on the street and sweet Abbey fed him muffins. Then he shows up in the small town working as a deputy in the sheriff department.
This book starts off boom! Be prepared to not put it down. It did take me a while ( almost end of book as secrets unfold) to like Addy. So hang in there and don’t let her running off with Finn’s best friend Rob you from one of the best books in the series. This is a mystery/suspense romance so let it unfold. There is lots of happy and sad. We get more Nathan ( who doesn’t like a sexy doctor) we get more Andrew ( sexy hacker and adds humor) and lots of Ciara and Antonio ( Gangster Galore) plus Jack snd Courderoy. Oh and we can’t forget Mason and Jo. So if you like romance, second chances, mystery/suspense, small town romance, military men, men in uniform, hackers, nail biting drama you want to read this!
I have a lot of authors I love and have a hard time choosing a favorite book. This time there is no doubt Bad Beat is it. Not that I don't enjoy every book.
Five years ago Finn was on duty with the Army Rangers. While he was away he lost his wife and son. No bodies, but the authorities had reason to believe they were gone. Finn spent everything he had in him to find them to no avail. He gave up and was rescued from the streets--series readers remember the muffin man. In his new job and on duty, he stopped at an accident in a huge snowstorm. His life changed in so many ways.
Any more will spoil the surprises that run throughout the book. I can tell you that when the team is created to help him it will have team members you never believe helping. There is danger and action in every chapter and they just keep coming. Mysteries, reunions, questioned loyalty, and oh so much more. Hang on and keep reading you're gonna love this one.
This is the eighth book in this incredible series and is Finn “Muffin Man” and Addie’s journey. While Finn was deployed overseas his wife and son disappear, and are declared dead, which sends him understandably on a downward spiral and he ends up being homeless. When a kind-hearted woman names him “Muffin Man” and speaks about a small town she loves, he moves there and gets the job as a deputy. While stopping to help a car that has slid off the road, Finn gets the shock of his life when his wife and son are in the car, and he learns they have been on the run with his former best friend John, as their lives have been in danger. This is a beautifully written flawless story which has suspense, danger, mystery, intrigue, action, twists, betrayal, emotions, humor, witty banter, and love, with crazy shenanigans from Jack, Corduroy, Antonio, and the rest of the crew, and this is an entertaining and steamy riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this gifted author whose work I highly recommend.
Ok, I probably say this every time I read one of Guilia's book's in this series, but hot damn was this book explosive af phew from page 1 to the end it was fast paced I couldn't get enough of the angst, drama, sexy times that happened while on the run and of course the hilarious comedy of Corduroy, Antonio, Jack these 3 could go on tour. I'm going to be vague about what happens in this book, because you need to read this going in blind. This is Finn's (Muffin Man) story you finally find out what happened to him, which was heart breaking up to how Abby found him the Muffin Man and holey hell get ready to go on one wild ride after another. I think I held my breath at the scenes being played out as I kept reading. This story had a grip on me from the start, I felt like my heart was being squeezed as he and...that's all I'm saying you need to read it and find out. This book was so damn good. I can't wait to read the next book in line. Absolutely would recommend reading this book.
In one word WOW this one just blew me away. What hit me the most was Muffin Man aka Officer Finn and seeing him go into Ranger mode was awesome. Seeing him finally get everything he lost back in order is something he never expected and Giulia Lagomarsino just wowed in this whole book. Not only do we see Finn get his family back but the real surprise was seeing Antonio befriending him and his family. Talk about a turnaround with the Mafia Man and how far he has come with this little town. Loved seeing everybody from Carter, Jack to even Ciara but finally we see Mason and Jo coming together, yippee. All in all this is one series worth getting and man such an awesome series filled with action, suspense, romance but most of all second chances. Loved it.

Bad Beat is book eight in the series; A Good Run of Bad Luck, which is a spinoff series from The Cortell Brothers. These books should be read in order to have a better understanding of the characters and town. This is a second chance romance suspense, focusing on Finn and Addie's journey.
This story was unpredictable, angsty, full of action and suspense, entertaining, emotional and had some twists. I couldn't put this book down, it kept me on the edge of my seat. There was a lot less humor then the previous books in this series. If you're familiar with Giulia's Reed Security Series it precedes Parker and GoodKnight, and Giulia; "this is the key that unlocks the final mission for Reed Secuirty." Their story was a wild ride to say the least.
'Bad Beat' is not only book seven in Giulia Lagomarsino's "A Good Run of Bad Luck Series" but also the prequel to 'Parker' and 'GoodKnight' in the "Reed Security" series. I'm so invested in these characters and have come to love each and every one of them. If you've read the previous books in this series, then you'll know who the Muffin Man is. And just like most homeless people in real life, there's a story behind the circumstances. Finn's was heartbreaking. Fast forward five years and now his past is staring him in the face and it's a fight for their lives to figure out what's going on before they literally lose everything and everyone they love. As much as a big grouch as he is, Anthony plays a big part in helping Jack and Carter help Finn and his family. This is a storyline full of second chances, twists and turns, life-altering events, and faith. What a great read.
***** 5 WOW Stars***** I was not ready for this story; I really thought I was but I truly wasn’t. This book starts off with a bang and just rides throughout the book. Finn has had it ruff for the last 5 years and he finally started to find his way back to somewhat new normal for him. The loss of his wife Addie and son weighs heavy on him and he just trying to get through the day. On a stormy snowy night everything changes and nothing makes sense. I absolutely loved this book I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this all play out. The last chapter almost killed me; I screamed very very loud and had to reread it to make sure what I was reading was correct. I can’t wait for more!! *****ARC from Author for review*****
Its’s been five years since Finn was serving his country overseas only to return home and find the family he loved had vanished into thin air and he was left with no answers and a lot of questions. He has picked up the pieces of his life and is now the sheriff when the past resurfaces and turns his life upside down.
The life that Addie and their son Pax have been living hasn’t been easy, but she will do whatever is necessary to keep him safe and she knows that their best chance lays with Finn which means facing the past and the decisions that were made.
The characters of Finn, Addie and Pax are compelling as they take us on a journey with humor, heat and heart and catching up with the men of Reed Security is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
Such a great story, and not a single poker night in this one. We find out what’s happened to Finn (The Muffin Man) and his family, wife Addie and son Pax. This story was high energy from start to finish. So many twists, turns, and deadly situations. I enjoyed the struggle the characters went through to adjust to being together & their talking about what had happened in the past five years. It was really sad circumstances and the author did a brilliant job of showing the initial shock upon meeting, to the awkwardness, to the anger, to the hope for a second chance—all while being under attack. Loved to see the other characters in action, especially Antonio after 5 pm.
I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.
Addie was going to survive nothing was going to stop her, she’d survived for years, now that they’d been found she just had to make it out alive and knows that only one person can help her. After all these years she just had to get to the one man she knew would help her and her son, he may not be happy about it all, but he would help them. Finn lost his wife and child and after a searching and not finding anything, ends up homeless living on the streets. A kind woman gives him some Muffins and we met the Muffin Man. Finn was warned about the snowstorm, the whole town was getting prepared and said it was going to be one of the worst they’d seen. Finn never expected what the snowstorm would bring. Will he finally get the answers he’s been looking for.
Finn and Addie's love story was truly an adventure. Addie continously on the run. Encounturing Finn who thought his family died. Their love gave them hope. New adventures begins. Still alots of humor throughout the story. Could not stop laughing. OMG do I love Antonio he is such an asset to this series. He is scary but caring to the right people. Lets not to forget Carter and Jack and of course our awesome hacker Andrew. All the secondary characters add such depth to the story. All these strong emotions love hate trust pain etc were felt. Love this town all the adventures it encounters. Once again Giulia brought it all together including Jo and Mason good thinking Antonio. Look forward to the next adventure.
