The TLDR: The Federalist Papers: A Modern Version for the Modern Reader

Rate this book
Reading and understanding The Federalist Papers is vital to understanding the Constitution of the United States of America. Yet for many readers the language and style of 18th century writing is unfamiliar, tedious, or confusing. For those readers, the editor offers this version. This edition of these essays is about half the length of the originals. Reducing historical references and repetition, as well as changes for modern use of language while maintaining overall tone and substance, allowed for most of this shortening. In a time when many argue the Constitution is irrelevant, flawed, and / or outdated, it is useful to understand what it is, what it says, and how its supporters argued many of the same points during the time leading up to the people’s votes to ratify it. The original authors of these essays were there during the debates over every line of the Constitution. They wrote them to explain their and their fellow delegate’s intent for every clause.
