RUNNING OUT OF TIME —Spanning across decades, a dashing young man, lost in time, risks everything to save a beautiful, modern-day girl who is trapped in the past. Starting college in the fall of 1927 is a dream come true for Will, that is until he loses his family to a smallpox outbreak. Before he can return home, he’s suddenly popped forward in time. Lost and confused, he’s taken aback when in 1930 a beautiful girl, Abbi, who claims to be from the year 2022, appears and pleads for his help.
Working together to survive, they fall helplessly in love. But in a devastating moment, he’s thrown further forward, leaving Abbi alone and trapped in the past. Will struggles through the decades to find her, while dodging the life-altering perils of modern times.
Complicating matters more, Abbi always travels backward in time, and Will forward. Their only hope is to communicate via a buried time capsule and an aging professor, as Will desperately tries to reunite with his true love.

I was given an ARC and am happy to review this book. It is the perfect compliment to Waking in Time as the journey is told from Will's point of view instead of Abbi's. It was difficult to find a spot to put it down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Would they find each other again and how?
Beautiful story of young love, true commitment, strong relationships and adventure.
I highly recommend it and if you haven't read Waking in Time yet, I recommend that as well.
loved it !! this is the first book that I have read by this author and it was great !! love Will and Abbi.. this is their heart breaking story... couldn't put it down !!! Will travels forward in time.. Abbi travels backward in time and yet they meet and fall in love.. they must find there way back to each other... clues are the only way to find each other... so good !!! received this on an ARC from the author, my honest review...
I am a huge fan of all of Angie Stanton’s book so I was so excited to be offered a ARC of Running out of time. It only took me about 5 pages before I was hooked. In 1927, Will has just started college when finds out that his family has died of smallpox. He is devastated and wakes only to find out he was somehow jumped 3 years into the future. He finds he has lost his house and most of his belonging. There he meets Abbi who tells him she is from the 2022 and they have met before and she also time travels but she can only travel into the past. They both are scared and try to stay awake each night so they don’t time travel but Will ends further into the future leaving Abbi alone in the past. They keep trying to reunite given the clues they have left for each other.
I really enjoyed this book. I was constantly pulling for Will, I hated that he was basically alone and wanted him desperately to find Abbi. I had already fallen in love with Abbi in her book, Waking in Time!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is book two of this series. It is told in Will’s POV of events and leaves you with HEA, but also wanting more! It can be read as a standalone, but to me is more enjoyable if book one (which is told in Abbi’s POV) is read first.
Will travels forward in time and Abbi travels backwards. But with each of them traveling, their love and bond is strong. Not only do they find peace in the moments they get with each other, they also have a common friend they each trust with their secrets to help them get back to the moment in time they belong. The friend is, Walter C. Smith (Professor Smith/Smitty), but unknowingly to all three of them, Walter is connected to this mysterious traveling in more ways than friendship and helping them.
I really enjoyed both of these stories. After reading book one (Waking In Time), I was left wishing for Will’s views and what happened with him and how he felt about everything. This book definitely delivers! I do wish we could get another book that is Walter’s view of all the events with his feelings, especially with the events of this book that was revealed! I would love to see what he experienced! I received an advanced readers copy via Hidden Gems. These thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book, but I did have to pretend like there was no time travel involved because time travel books are definitely not my thing. It took me a really long time to get through for no other reason that I just kept getting books with time limited reading periods so I prioritized them first and, again, time travel.
I liked Will and Abbi. I really liked Smitty and Carol. And I generally enjoyed the story, but there were some gaps that I had a real struggle with. Especially towards the end when the time travel situation changed. I won't say more because ... spoilers. But there was some head scratching. And I definitely feel like, while this can be treated as a stand alone, it suffers for that and should really be read with the first book in the series. (Confession: I didn't read the first book in the series, so I could be totally wrong.) I just had a hunch that knowing the Abbi story would have filled in those gaps in the plot that I wondered about.
Stanton is a good writer, and she takes care in introducing time-appropriate items to reinforce where Will has ended up. I would like to know how much money he has in the bank, because that was something that made me really curious. I felt that we got a pretty well rounded impression of Will in this book: who he is, what drives him or doesn't drive him, and how he evolves as a person even if he's only getting a few days older throughout most of the book. Abbi had her moment when they spent time together at school for that period about midway but she was definitely not the focus this time around.
All in all, an enjoyable read. If you liked the first book, this is probably a very good complement. If you like Stanton, you won't be disappointed. If you hate time travel and can look past it, then yay-hoo.
The novel, a stand-alone/follow-up to the book Waking in Time, is an intriguing time-travel romance that I enjoyed reading.
The story revolves around Will, a young man who begins his college education in 1927, much to the chagrin of his father. However, as he embarks on this new journey, he receives a telegram informing him that his family has succumbed to a smallpox outbreak. As he attempts to return home, he is inexplicably thrust forward in time. Lost and bewildered, in 1930 after his second thrust forward in time, he meets Abbi, an attractive young woman from 2022, who pleads with him for assistance. Together, they form a bond and fall deeply in love. However, Will finds himself being propelled further and further into the future, while Abbi is always traveling backward in time. Will spends decades searching for her, all the while struggling to navigate the hazards of modern life.
Despite the similarities between this novel and its predecessor, Waking in Time, I found the story to be engaging and thought-provoking. I was particularly impressed by the author's ability to maintain a sense of novelty, even within a familiar framework. Will's perspective on his relationship with Abbi was a source of intrigue, as was his exploration of contemporary technology, such as the cell phone and television. The ending was also satisfying, as it deviated from that of the previous book.
I am unable to find any significant flaws in the book. I found it illuminating to gain insight into Will's thoughts and emotions, especially in scenes when he was inebriated.
I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy time-travel romance or star-crossed lover stories. Angie Stanton's book is an excellent choice for those who appreciate a well-crafted and captivating story.
I listened to Walking in Time on audible and really enjoyed the book. So much so that I looked up the author Angie Stanton.
I was amazed to discover Running Out of Time was due to be released.
What was more amazing was the chance to apply to read an advanced copy.
The following review is totally impartial.
I obviously like book one, so when I found I could read book two and find out what happened to Will, I jumped at the chance.
I normally listen to books instead of reading as I find I have more time to enjoy books this way. I however made time to read Running Out of Time and loved every moment.
The book is written well and flows just how I like books to flow. It easy to keep track of all the characters and builds on those who share a little less time during book one.
At this point, I would like to add, you don’t need to have read book one to enjoy this book. Both books run alongside each other and tell the same story from each of the two main characters perspective.
I felt this worked really really well, even when reading parts which the rear is aware of in book one.
Bit like the different Back to the Future films where you see the same part of a story from a different view.
The book simply works really well and as I say I loved everything about it.
I like time travel which is what got me to read these books. Don’t worry if that’s not your things as I found out these are classed as romance books. Even that shouldn’t put the time travel fans off and there is a good balance of plot, romance, suspense and time travel.
***I was given an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review***
I love this book!!! What a fun, adventurous, intriguing story with twists and turns! I had to turn the pages faster as I sat on the edge of my seat in anticipation as the characters made their next moves... I had to know what was going to happen to them next!!!!!! I couldn't stop reading or put my Kindle down!!! I was afraid the characters would do something critical in the story and I'd miss it!!!! Obviously from my above words you can see this book will fill you up with so many emotions!! LOL It's written very well and anyone who reads this book can recognize the intentions the author wants to express! A lot of details and research went into this story and it shows because there's a lot of history and knowledge in the storyline! The deeper you get into the story the more you lose yourself to it and the characters, and the world around them. There's a connection there and the characters start to grow on you. Their emotions become yours! I hope there will be another book because I'm not ready to let the characters go just yet! This book was so much fun to read!
I love time travel stuff. But I am always weary of how it is handled. This book gives just enough explanation to make it interesting without going overboard and losing the reader with paradox talk.
The characters are awesome. Really enjoyed the adventure through Will’s perspective. I did not know this was a follow-up to Abbi’s adventure “Waking In Time”. I’m intrigued and may read that version eventually. Though I loved the characters, I’m not sure the romance aspect of this book was top notch.
One other thing though: I wished there was more ‘reveals’?! I went back through after finishing it looking for potential things that could be different after knowing some of the information from later in the book but couldn’t find anything. I love that about time travel stuff normally but didn’t really get any surprises this time.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Angie Stanton, the publishers Xpresso Book Tours and the NetGalley team for providing me with an Advanced copy. I cherished this opportunity to read it in exchange for an honest review.
To anyone who said this was just a repeat of book 1, that is semi-true, but there is also so very much more to it. The entire second half of the book was completely unexpected and yet so good! Obviously with this being from Will’s perspective, instead of focusing on only Abbi and her family, we get to focus on other aspects as well as people and things important to Will. And this adds so much depth and richness to his character.
I’m so glad we get to see and hear about what happens beyond where book 1 ends. And I love everything that was added. I’m just so sad to see it all end. It is definitely poignant and thought-provoking and captures all the feelings of time’s passage, aging and life itself.
My one last wish would have been for a photograph of everyone at the Terrace (where book 1 ends) so Abbi and Will have yet another reminder of where they’ve been and where they’ve come from.
Will, a college student in the late 1920s, falls asleep one night and wakes up two years in the future. Unable to control his sporadic leaps forward in time, he meets Abbi, who is in a similar situation. Except she’s travelling the other way.
This is a counterpart to the author’s previous book, Waking In Time, with many of the same events told from Will’s point of view. It probably helps to read that one first to get the full picture, but even without that, this book takes you on a rollicking ride through time as Will attempts to adjust to his changed circumstances and work out why it’s happening. Full of interesting historical detail, rounded characters, a touch of humour and a love story underpinning it all, this is a captivating read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.
The first book in the series, “Waking in Time,” is fabulous, and the sequel “Running out of Time” is just as wonderful, if not better. In this book we get Will’s point of view as he travels in time and meets up with Abbi from book one. This is a twisty tale as their paths cross at different times and they or may not know about their other meetings. Each year’s news and inventions and changing social structures are delightfully presented through Will’s eyes as he leaps forward and has to quickly adapt to the year he is in. The author clearly did her research to properly present the fads and norms of each era. As a University of Wisconsin graduate, I loved the familiar locations across campus and the city of Madison. And as always, Stanton’s excellent writing, plotting, and character development keep us entertained page after page. Just brilliant!
touching and gripping This book is one of the best I have read recently. Abby and Will's story is unusual, it keeps the reader hooked from the first until the last page. Both are traveling through time but in opposite directions. You wonder what is the reason for exactly these two people traveling through time, what is the purpose for their travels, will they be able to solve old mysteries and most importantly will they be happily united in the end? I liked how the author shone a light on the difficulties of adapting to the time you are transported to, how both the future and the past are not ideal places to live in and challenge you to cope – makes you wonder whether we should count our blessings and appreciate the time we live in now. I received this book as a review copy.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I must admit it took me a while to get going with the concept of this book but once my brain had it sorted I was hooked. Time travel is a very scary thing - just imagine loosing your whole family and being thrown forward in time with no control over what it happening or when. This is exactly what happens to Will - the main character in this book. It’s maybe not one that I would have immediately have chosen but I really enjoyed reading his adventure and falling in love.
Time travel and romance Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 15, 2022 From beginning to the end this story will have you glued to it. When you break yourself from the book, you will wonder what’s happening next and can’t wait to get back to reading and finding out what is going to happen. The romance seems in trouble from the start but you will keep your fingers crossed so they will find each other again. This is another reason to keep reading. They storyline is in detail and does not lack anything. I loved this story and how the author twists everything and makes it a must read book.
A huge thank you to Angie for an ARC copy for review
Have you ever gotten a gift you weren’t expecting, but absolutely needed? Angie Stanton gave me the most wonderful surprise with Running Out Of Time. It follows Will and Abbi’s journey through the decades, but with Will’s POV. I really enjoyed getting to know him better, and seeing his love for Abbi is just everything!
This has been my book highlight of 2022 so far and I highly recommend it. It releases on October 10th, so you still have time to read book one, Waking In Time. 😉
I admit I didn’t read the first in this series, and perhaps that why I didn’t enjoy this as much as others. I’ve enjoyed other Angie Stanton books so I was excited to read this, but I found the writing style a bit clunky and very “stream of consciousness” in style, and the story was rather hard to follow. The concept is really interesting, but it just wasn’t for me.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley and XPresso Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
I recently stumbled upon Angie Stanton's books, and she has quickly become one of my recommending authors to my friends. Running Out of Time contains a unique plot, following a time travel journey between Will and Abbi. It kept me engaged from the beginning. Even though it is the second book in the series, it is a standalone with readers getting the first book, Walking in Time, through Will's POV.
This isn’t exactly a sequel to Waking in Time. It’s the same story told from the male character’s point of view. As a result, there are some scenes and conversations with Abbi that are repetitious with the first book.
But it is interesting to learn about Will’s journey from 1929 into the future.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator wasn’t great and frequently overacted, which was a bit bit annoying.
I found the book pretty boring. It was very redundant. I read this book immediately after reading Waking in Time. I felt like I was reading the same story I just read all over again. Yes, there’s some new information, but for me the differences weren’t enough to make it a worthwhile read. For 3/4 of the book I was really wondering why it was written at all, I did enjoy Waking in Time but I feel like this is more of a reread rather than a sequel.
Amazing story of love and Time travel!! one travels forward in time, the other backwards. They run into each other and fall in love! wonderful characters as well!! I highly recommend this book! you will not be able to put it down, I sure couldn't!! I am anxiously looking for more books, hoping the series continues!! I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
With over four thousand books in my home, this series is a favourite
I genuinely liked _Waking in Time_, and wished on more than one occasion for *more* in this story. What a delight to learn that Will's story was being published soon! My preordered copy arrived this week and I have enjoyed it. -- Even better, I can see another one in the works!
It took me a while to get into Running Out of Time, mostly because it much of the first half is a repeat of the first book in the series. That surprised me, but eventually, I could not put it down and really enjoyed it. The ending appears to set things up for a third book in the series.
I haven't read a time travel book in so long and this one was exactly what I needed. A sweet romance in which the two protagonists are time traveling --- relentlessly and in opposite directions. Add a professor and tons of pop cultural references to the mix and you have a story that will have you binge reading way into the night!
If you like time travel and a bit of romance, this book is for you. The story of Will and Abbi is about 2 time-crossed loves. It's the second in a series, so be sure to read "Waking in Time" first. I love all of Angie Stanton's books but this one may be a favorite. It's hard to pick one.
the original plot is told from his point of view, too much rehashing for me. will catching up to modern times worked well. I liked thE end idea of other departure places and hope they leave through other pl aces and of course times.
I literally couldn't put the book down as I traveled with Will and Abbi back and forth in time. I especially liked the setting, as I am a UW Madison graduate and resident. Bravo, Angie!
I absolutely loved this book! My favorite by this author to date! And I have read almost all of her books! You will not be disappointed reading this book!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review. Wow just wow. This book was amazing. It had me hooked from the first page. Wills story will have you in knots.
