About the author

Amanda Jenkins, before life as a homemaker and mother of four, worked in sales and marketing for a number of Christian retailers, as well as in visual communications and advertising. She spent ten years in L.A. alongside her film-making husband, surrounded by plastic surgery and high-falutin’ lifestyles, which is where she became convicted and inspired to write about her struggle with perfectionism. Amanda attended Northwestern Bible College and graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies and Communications. She has taught Bible studies for women of all ages for the past 14 years, and is passionate about communicating truth in a culturally relevant and humorous way. Today, she lives just outside of Chicago with her husband, Dallas, and their four young children, including their newly adopted son. She is also the daughter-in-law of Jerry B. Jenkins.

This book is a "Godsend". It is a little daily devotional that tells stories and then puts it in perspective by having you focus on prayer and then asking you 3 questions related to what the story is trying to point out.
I will "pay it forward" to those who do not know the Lord and pray that they will "Pay it forward" as well, when they finish reading.

Amazing show! Devotional is decent. Very "entry-level" content. The questions at the end of each chapter are probably the best part. The written devotionals themselves are relatively basic. Author's tone is very casual/conversational which some may appreciate more.

This is a marvelous devotional that puts you into walking with the disciples and Jesus. It speaks as if you were interviewing what it was like to be with the Lord. It is very soothing to the soul.

You don’t have to watch the show to read the devotion. The comments and devotions stay with you after you close the book. Am glad I read it. I encourage anyone else to read it as well.

From the creators of the hit television series comes the devotional The Chosen – Book One: 40 Days with Jesus. Each devotion consists of a bible verse, a discussion, a prayer focus, and three questions for further thought. However, the discussions vary wildly, from examining the life one of Jesus’ disciples to imaginary interviews with people who He encountered. As a result the tone is rather inconsistent and can be rather jarring as one moves from one type of devotion to another. Still, its unique approach helps the reader to think about the material from a different perspective (or at least it attempts to). Yet while there are some thought-provoking segments, The Chosen – Book One: 40 Days with Jesus ends up being a fairly standard devotional that’s effectiveness largely depends on how familiar one is with the Gospel message and how interactive they are which the material.

Excellent devotional from the creators of The Chosen tv series. Jammed packed with scripture reference, thought provoking questions to ponder, and prayer guides. I thoroughly enjoyed this devotional and will definitely read again each year! I highly recommend it.
