My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, Rising Storm. This is the first book in the series, Mackensie Cove. I'm a big fan of Edie's so I was thrilled when I received the new book in a new series; although you always hate to see the end of a series. This book is well-written, action-packed, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.

Ex-Delta Force Operative Rollo MacKensie returns to MacKensie Cove to become Chief of Police. Now a single father he wants his daughter to have roots and a family. He doesn't expect to find his first love, especially in trouble. He is caught up in a twenty-year-old murder case trying to protect her.

Alyssa Archer is a widow. Her husband got drunk and killed Rollo's mother. Everyone has blamed her. She has saved every dime she can to buy her dream home. (An old farmhouse that's been vacant for years) As she moves in someone sets her chicken coop on fire; then sets her business on fire. Why? What are they trying to do? She needs Rollo's help if she is to survive. Can he and his family forgive her?

A terrifying journey as the mad man tries to keep his action twenty years ago a secret. God has a plan for these two, a good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A plan for peace and not destruction. Make Him Lord of your life and watch what he can do.

I'm not sure about this book. The mystery was good. I didn't really expect who it turned out to be but we also weren't given enough information throughout the book to decide before it was revealed. It was as if one moment we're at the high school reunion and the next moment he's thinking about kissing her. Then he's thinking about respecting her. Then the book just ends. There was no leadup. There didn't seem to be any kind of segue into a romance. They had a few internal monologues about being scared to take a chance, but other than that, it just ended. I liked the book overall, but the romance wasn't developed enough for me to be considered a romance mystery/suspense. Weird because I usually love Edie James' books.

Great series

I love reading any books by Edie James! Always a good read, easy to keep your attention. Mystery, romance n always Christian faith!
I enjoy reading about military, police, and Coast Guard and how they operate. They do not get enough praise for the job they do.

Home Again

With faith in God all things are possible. Forgiveness can flow, emotions can be healed, and lives can be saved. Even neither one ever acknowledged it Alyssa and Rollo were attracted to each other. But sometimes it takes separation and maturity to recognize someone who was always a special part if your life.

I really liked this book. I just wished it had a bit more romance or at least one kiss, just one. But moving on. Alyssa carried so much guilt from something that wasn't even her fault, I felt bad for her. I liked how the Mackenzies helped her throughout the book, she deserved beinh treated the right way. Rollo was a good man, I liked him. He liked her but didn't want to overwhelme her with his feelings so he was just there for her and that's so cute

It wasn't a bad book, just slow. I never really got into the story. It was interesting, but I felt the passage of time while reading. It was easy to get distracted. Luckily I had a couple of hours to devote to this so I got through it in one sitting, otherwise, I probably would have put it down and not picked it up again. I actually started this book on my Kindle then decided it would be better for me to get a physical copy. Sometimes holding an actual book in my hands helps me to focus better.
I generally liked the story. I adored the change of the teenage father and daughter getting along great. Honestly, so many stories love to put them at odds, so it was a refreshing change. Alyssa got a bit tedious with her guilt complex, and I liked the reconciliation between Rolo and his father and the appearance of the other siblings.
So the characters weren't terrible, just not very memorable to me. It's been a couple of hours and I had to go back and read the blurb to remember Alyssa's name. Rolo's name reminds me of the candy so that helps. Plotwise, there wasn't a lot of suspense or romance for that matter, although the library I got it from classified it as romance. I figure since at the end of the book Rolo does plan on asking out Alyssa that qualifies it. and they do have a couple of moments, but the focus of this book aside from the murder mystery is reconciliation. I don't think they even kissed in this one, which is fine but since the mystery aspect wasn't intriguing me, I was hoping the relationship part would help fill in some of the void. Sadly no. I don't need hot and heavy but I would like some chemistry between the characters.
In my opinion, there are more engaging books out there romantically and suspense-wise. However, this one wasn't a bad one to while away the time with. I was hoping this one would entice me to want to continue the series and possibly the companion series (which I knew had to be a thing when a bunch of characters were pulled in as backup and was confirmed when I looked at the author's page and found the series highlight the security firm that was name-dropped in this book) but right now I'm ambivalent and probably won't look into this series for a while.
So Recommended? Eh. I think there are those who will get enjoyment out of it. I wasn't bored while reading.

Better than 5 stars!

No fun to be Alyssa ! When a murder from years ago surfaces in her new back yard danger begins to stalk her and an exciting and suspenseful story begins. Rollo MacKenzie is the first sibling up to lure us readers into the past and present of this intriguing family and I'm looking forward to more of their stories. Some of the friends from Knight Tactical offer critical assistance as Rollo pieces together a deadly puzzle.

I cant wait to read about the MacKenzie siblings. What a fun start to the series! I appreciate how unhurried the relationship between Rollo and Alyssa is....something I appreciate about how the author writes her romance. The most fun was learning the tid bits about the family and that gathering in the end :)

Rising Storm by Edie James is a romantic suspense book from the Mackenzie Cove Series. (1)

Alyssa Archer’s live collapsed when her husband died in a car accident killing a woman (her best friend’s mother) in the other car he crushed. She still can’t look into her friend’s eye, guilt eating her alive. But when someone starts fire on her newly bought land and leaves a threatening note she is forced to face the family she tried to avoid in the last few years.

Rollo Mackenzie is back in his hometown with his daughter after accepting the job to become the new chief of police in tow. His first assignment is Alyssa’s case, and he is determined to find out who is threatening her.

When things get more serious and Alyssa’s diner is damaged too, Rollo keeps her at his side offering her a place to stay. There are deadly secrets buried deep on Alyssa’s farm. Will they be able to discover all before someone Alyssa gets hurt?

This story went straight to my heart, it is suspenseful and heart-warming at the same time. Grief can destroy families and the Mackenzie family is no different but as soon Rollo comes back to town everyone is willing to work on their happiness.

I feel like a know the characters and can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see how Alyssa’s and Rollo’s relationship develop. It is implied that they got closer, but I have to make sure. 

Retired Delta Force Operative, Rollo MacKenzie, has returned to MacKenzie Cove to become the Chief of Police. His first assignment is helping Alyssa Archer, a woman from his past, whose deceased husband is responsible for Rollo's mother's death. Alyssa recently bought a property only to have someone start a fire on it, leaving a note behind, telling her to leave. After a few other attacks, Alyssa and Rollo discover that there might be more going on here than they realized. Secrets from years ago begin to uncover and they must work together to find out who is targeting Alyssa before it's too late.

I really enjoyed Edie James' Hope Landing series so I was excited for this new series. Unfortunately, this first book wasn't quite up to par in the romance or suspense department. There wasn't really any romance and the suspense was limited to the beginning and ending of the book. The middle was filled with mystery and drama between the families of MacKenzie Cove. I enjoyed the story and the faith element a lot. I also liked getting to see cameos from the Hope Landing series with members of Knight Tactical making an appearance. All in all, a good mystery with a little bit of suspense but too little romance for my taste.

The Cove

I won this book as a Giveaway winner. I liked Rollo McKenzie as a detective cop in this book. He just moved back home with his whitty daughter Wren to be close to his dad who just had a stroke and family to help out. Being back in town and on a on the force was going to be a challenge for him. Until he sees Alyssa. Alyssa is a painter and just purchased some new property by the surf. She's been through a lot lately and in my own opinion she had guts for putting up with the chaos and on her plate. But what was in store for her, was shocking and terrifyingly scary. Vivianne Rollo's phycologist sister was sharp as a whip and dad or Mr McKenzie rather was a solid rock not just for the family but for Alyssa too. This book was great. I liked the suspense, thrill and action. I caught myself holding my breath a few times and reading faster as the pages flew by. I disliked Bucky and Strong as characters. I found myself asking questions like how could they do that? and why would they act that way? I felt sorry for Kaitlyn. I won't give away any spoilers but my heart ached for her and her family. I give this book a full five stars and am considering purchasing the rest of the series. If you like a good detective book, this one I recommend.

4.5 Stars Rounded Down - I rounded the star value down because it was harder to round it up. Edie James plots her stories well and her characters are interesting. But the technique, I think, could be taken up a notch. Sometimes the wording she uses throws me off. Her pacing is good, and I can tell this story was well planned and that she put a ton of work into it. If you enjoy clean suspense romance, then you'll likely enjoy this.
I think another thing that kind of bothers me about her inspirational books in general is that there isn't much that shows the life lived by faith. Prayers thrown up when someone's in a tight spot lend to the idea that God is some kind of Santa Claus. That bothers me. I'd rather see these characters actually growing in their faith, that God is actually the One creating that growth, leading them to learn how to live a life of faith. It's just not real strong in the books I've read by this author. I'm hoping to see that change over time, though. And I will keep reading these books, because they're good.

5 stars.
I purchased a copy of the Christian Romantic Suspense Mackenzie Rising Storm: Cove Book One: by Edie James, and this review was given freely.
This is not only a suspenseful murder mystery but also a good introduction to the complex personalities of the Mackenzie clan and the numerous town scandals and feuds. Despite multiple clues, I didn’t guess the killer.
18 years after the newly engaged high school senior Kaitlyn is murdered and thrown down a well, new farm owner Alyssa Archer and her restaurant are targeted, and the newly returned chief of police, Rolo Mackenzie must save her while juggling reuniting with his family, raising his teenage daughter, his father’s investigation of his mother’s six-year-old murder, and accepting his growing feelings for the skittish Alyssa.
Ends with a teaser featuring Rolo’s sister, forensic psychologist Viviane Mackenzie, and the “reinvented” police detective Will Natchez.

Rollo and Alyssa

What an intriguing novel. This novel is full of faith, action, adventure, and mystery. Alyssa has only her Nona (Grandmother) left. Most of her family is gone and she runs The Diner in the small town of Mackenzie Cove on the Pacific Northwest Coast. The Mackenzie Clan is loving, loud, and most of all Family. When strange things start to happen to Alyssa, the new Police Chief in town starts to look into the happenings. Rollout and Alyssa have a lot of catching up to do, plus finding out just what is going on in the small town of Mackenzie Cove. Great start to this series!

The "Virtual Voice" was terrible on the audiobook. It was hard to tell who was speaking since there was no tonal change between characters, words were mispronounced, and it was just a monotone, flat voice. I stopped listening and picked up the Kindle Unlimited version.

I enjoyed the storyline once I switched to reading.

ZERO STARS for the audio version - the author should never have agreed to have it "read" by a Virtual Voice.
FOUR STARS for the story. Average made it three stars, rounding up.

Rising Storm

This is a wonderful book full of action and suspense all the way to the end. Someone is out to get Alyssa Archer but she doesn’t know why she has been targeted. She runs her grandmothers diner in town and has just purchased a place of her own. Rollo MacKenzie has just been hired on as the Police Chief in MacKenzie Cove and his first case is a good friend of his sister being targeted. Will he be able to keep Alyssa safe?

GRIPPING

I was not able to put this one down. I was gripped and pulled in right from the beginning. I even had a few tears at one point. Just as I thought I had the murderer, I was wrong. I loved the book and am going on to book two. I chose to give 5 stars based solely on the story, but I will say there were a couple of errors, but it in no way changed how the author grabbed you interest

4 stars for the story and 3 for the editing

I'd rate this book a 3.5 if I could. The story was pretty good, but it could really use some editing. A couple of sentences didn't make sense, focused is spelled focussed twice, and there were a lot of other errors that I found pretty distracting. If I knew her other books were well-edited. I'd give them a try.

Great read

Rollo was returning with his daughter to live in MacKenzie Cove to take on the job of Chief of Police. Alyssa had bought an abandoned property out of town and someone wanted her gone. Lots of excitement with arson, discovery of a long dead body, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Ms. James started this story in an interesting, captivating manner. That piqued my interest in where this mystery was going. I enjoyed the ride and was surprised by the ending. I am glad I purchased the box set that included books 1-3 of this series. I think this is a series that has to be read in order to fully appreciate the series.

Great story that kept my attention. Alyssa and Rollo, the new police chief, have a history as they were each other's first love. This story has suspense, attacks on Alyssa, and a 20 year old murder case. There is an intertwined storyline/mystery involving Alyssa's late husband and Rollo's late mother that will continue throughout this series.

This read kept me up late. While I enjoyed the first series by this author, this new start has more depth. Chilling prologue. Rollo and Alyssa's story was great--loved the plotting, the constant danger, the secondary characters, and all the twists and turns. Keep writing, Edie!

Fantastic Book and Author!!

Interesting Family

I like this author a lot. This book was so so. First, there really isn’t a spark unto western 69% into the book. I realize this is a series but definitely a slow burner. The series has great potential but I need to see more romance and action.

This is the first book in this new Christian series about a law enforcement family, the MacKenzies. The characters are very likable and the suspense pulled me into the story. The Christian message is lightly sprinkled in. It's a very entertaining start to this new series.

Enough to hold your interest.

Loved that the story was interesting enough without all of the triggers secular books have. Didn't see the villain until he was revealed so that something.
