Kathie writes at night with country tunes playing from a local radio station while the rest of the world sleeps. It's the quiet time of the night that inspires her to craft her stories with a unique style of sensuality, interspersed with a little humor.
Kathie has been a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist twice. Her June 2001 release, His Baby Surprise, received the National Readers' Choice Award for Best Short Contemporary Romance of 2001. All of her books have been listed on the Waldenbooks Category Romance Bestsellers list.
Kathie lives in the Illinois area her family settled in the early 1800's when they moved from North Carolina. Besides writing, Kathie loves to read romances, travel to historic locales, and delights in trying to rid the world of chocolate -- one bite at a time! She also enjoys meeting readers and writers at the numerous conferences, workshops, and booksignings she attends.
The heroine is mid 20's, a police detective, divorced and pregnant. She's been alone most of her life, raised in foster care with no known relatives. She was really alone even during her four year marriage because her husband was a worthless, womanizing playboy. She got married because she wanted to belong to a family and have children. She had two miscarriages and really didn't hold her husbands attention more than a few weeks. So a year after her divorce she decides if she's going to have a family, she's going to do it on her own via a sperm bank. She meets the H during a police investigation and he makes an immediate play for her. She knows he's just another playboy like her ex-husband and doesn't want anything to do with him. However, she has some complications with her pregnancy and faints in his arms. The H has always run from relationships but he quickly realizes that he wants to take care of the h and her unborn baby. This is a very sweet love story. The H is very kind, gentle and loving.
Synopsis: Book 2 of the series, Dynasties: The Connellys, who are based in Chicago.
I love books revolving around pregnancy and babies. In this one, we are straightaway introduced to Elena Delgado, who's pregnant via a sperm donor. She's already suffered two miscarriages during her marriage, which ended in divorce, and this baby was all she looked forward to. She is a detective from the SIU of Chicago PD, who is on her way to visit Brett Connelly, regarding the investigation into the attempted murder of his older brother, Daniel, the future king of Altaria.
Brett Connelly, Vice Prez of PR, is smitten with Elena from the first look itself. He turns on his charm, the lady-killer that he is, and takes her out to dinner. A work dinner, of course. He couldn't expect anything more from Elena's no-nonsense attitude.
Review: I loved how Brett (playboy? nuh-uh) knew everyone by their first name, even in a restaurant. From the first meet itself, he comes to know about Elena's pregnancy, and his protective instincts start raging.
By the way, Brett doesn't live up to his reputation of being a playboy, at all. Rather, he is the sweetest guy around. It's sad that Elena doesn't have anyone to turn to, but I love how pushy Brett is to take care of her. How cutely he worries for her, and also a cute name he gave the baby.
How could a woman not fall head over heels for a man who had appointed himself her own personal white knight?
The cover does do justice to the beauty of Elena, as described by Brett.
This is the sweetest book ever; if nothing else, only for the mutual declaration of love. I loved how in the end, the title of the book made sense.
P.S. His twin brother Drew's story sounds interesting, which is contained in the book His E-Mail Order Wife by Kristi Gold (Book 8 in the Series). Apart from this one, I have only read Book 5 - Plain Jane and Doctor Dad by Kate Little, and Book 11 - Expecting...and In Danger by Eileen Wilks in this Series.
I read Kathie DeNosky's Illegitimate Heirs Series' last four books before this (Yeah, I am weird like that!). But, this one is my favourite book!
Maternally Yours is the second book in the series, and my favorite so far. Everything just instantly hooked me from the first scene: the flow, the writing style, the feel of the story, the characters, and everything. It was totally swoon-worthy! I'm pretty sure I had a big fat cheesy grin on my face the whole time I read this one. What a charming, feel-good novel this is!
Brett Connelly is one of the Connelly twins. We met him in the first book ( Tall, Dark & Royal (Dynasties: The Connellys, Book 1)) and learned a little bit about him. He’s the Vice President of Public Relations for Connelly Corp. and a playboy. He’s a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. But I suspected more of the playboy ways he let on, and I was right. He showed his soft, sweet side, as evidenced by how he cared for Elena and his love for her.
Elena is assigned to investigate the attempted shooting of Brett’s brother, the King of Altaria. She just divorced her asshole ex-husband and is currently pregnant. And the moment she met Brett Connelly, he became her personal white knight. He had been there for her every step of the way. He’d taken care of her when she’d pushed herself too hard at work, been there with her to share the happiness at the doctor’s office, and comforted her when she’d let her fear get the best of her. So how could a woman not fall head over heels for a man who went out of his way to replace bad Valentine's memories with good ones? Brett was such an incredible guy. I think I fell in love with him right along with our heroine. I want him to be real and be mine. *sigh*
Overall, Maternally Yours is a beautiful, romantic story that comes with surprises. I loved Brett and Elena and enjoyed how real their characters felt. And I loved all the family ties—that kind of stuff always makes me happy. And although the mystery of the killer hasn’t been revealed yet, I closed this book with a happy heart and a smile on my face. I was genuinely happy for both of them and glad that they got their HEA together with Peanut.
The sreies is getting better. I really like Brett. Again though I feel the story ends abruptly and does not finish the future. That is frustrating and leaves way too much to imagination
