Lonewild Winter

Rate this book
Watercolorist Reagan Hart and her twelve-year-old daughter Meredith have lived in New York City all their lives, but when Reagan hears that her ex-husband will be released from prison early, they change their last name, relocate to a small coastal town in Maine, and lease a house from a feisty octogenarian.

Brett Mason takes care of his aunt's estate, including Lonewild, now that she's moved to an assisted living facility, but he has trust issues of his own... and a tendency to butt in where he's not wanted.

Jared Loper will stop at nothing to find his wife and daughter. Even if it means violating parole and the possibility of being sent back to prison.

The lives of these five people are about to intersect on the scenic streets and shores of Wentworth Cove.

Rebecca Stevenson is a native Texan, but marriage took her to New England—and the Maine coast stole her heart. She lives in Texas again, but frequent trips back to the Northeast inspired the settings for her Wentworth Cove series and her newest release, Mirthwood Cottage.

A former English and creative writing teacher, she thought if she could teach writing, she should be able to do it. Those thoughts and some brainstorming sessions with her daughter led to her first novel, Another Summer, set in a picturesque coastal village in Maine. From that debut novel, the four-book Wentworth Cove series was born.

The Trinity Springs series came about from a desire to write about her home state of Texas—complete with horses, ranches, and line dancing. New Song is the first book in the series.

Mirthwood Cottage, set in a lakeside village in New Hampshire, is her ninth novel. When she's not writing, Rebecca enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and watching movies. She's already at work on her next book in the Porter Falls, New Hampshire series.

After hearing that her ex-husband is being released from prison, Reagan Hart moves from New York City with her twelve-year-old daughter, Meredith. She finds a beautiful house to rent in Wentworth Cove, a small town in Maine. She prays her ex-husband won’t find them. No way is she going to let that man back in her life or the life of their daughter.

Reagan’s ex, Jared Loper, is determined to find his ex-wife and daughter. He doesn’t care what it takes to find her and he has no intention of taking advice from his well meaning father. He’s not thrilled to learn they have left New York City, which means he will have to break his parole to get to them.

The estate Reagan moves into is managed by Brett Mason. His aunt actually owns the house, but had to move into assisted living. Brett is quite interested in their latest tenant and makes sure to always be there when she needs anything. He suspects there may be more to her story than meets the eye.

This is the third book in the Wentworth Cove series, but the only real connection is the town and a few returning characters. However, there are no cliffhangers and no continuing threads to worry about so each book can be read on its own. I read the first two a few years ago, but I think this one is the best by far.

I enjoyed watching this story unfold. I didn’t always agree with Reagan but I could understand where she was coming from with her decisions. She might be a bit overprotective of her daughter but with good reasons. She’s not ready to jump into another relationship, again with good reason. It’s a natural progression for her to take things at a slow pace.

The book itself is anything but slow. I devoured it and loved every minute of it. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. The characters are realistic and feel as if they can be your next door neighbor. It’s a story filled with emotion and tugs at the heartstrings.

I enjoy this author’s writing style very much. I’m hoping their will be more books in this series.

Rebecca did it again!

The author blasted another book out of the proverbial park! She cleverly put broken people together…again. Rebecca has a depth of writing that requires me to read her stories to the end…non-stop.
