We read two of these book in an hour on yesterday's road trip. And tonight at bath time reminisced about 'finkels' aka the wrinkly bath fingers, that the Queen also gets. Indy says deadpan, and you said The Queen is dead. It was the first thing that came to mind.
Poor Weir Do, splits his pants at school, and has to creep along the wall so his dinasour undies don't show, and seeking out the other weird boy at school so he's not the weirdest. These books are funny and great, but I have a feeling they contain good solid messages.
Expertly read by Stig Wemyss so much so that I look forward to listening to more with Master Indy, 10, whenever we get the chance.

Most of our class liked the character Weir. We liked how he drew pictures and came second last in his running races. He does little things the same way we do; like ripping off Band-Aids and hanging out with our best friends.
Mr A. our teacher thinks it might be a book for boys, but the girls in our class disagree and can look at the story through both Weir and Bella’s point of view.
Most of the book is about Weir’s interest in his classmate Bella. It’s funny to see Weir being shy and not knowing what to say to her. In this book there are lots of new characters that end up helping the two become closer. The book climaxes with some amazing events at Bella’s birthday party.
Some of the episodes in the book aren't as interesting as others. Because there aren't many words, the book is ideal for kids who are still practicing their reading. However we would like there to be more words in the next one.

Another hilarious instalment by the funny man, Anh Do. I think we can all relate to Weir Do’s dad - I’m sure all of us have someone in the family just like him. Lol. I know I do.

I liked this series a lot more than Dork Diaries. Fast, fun, and light! This book made me laugh out loud.

Weir tries desperately to impress Bella Allen, the love of his life, that he’s really a cool guy, despite his weird name.
After arriving at Bella’s fancy dress party dressed as a vending machine, and losing all the party snacks, Weir’s crazy family step in to provide the party entertainment. His grandpa’s magic vanishing dentures performance, and his father’s vociferous burping songs embarrass Weir, and by the end of the party he wonders if Bella will ever speak to him again.
The use of text within the illustration space drives the action and humour of this engagingly quirky book for six to twelve year-olds.

I was hoping that I would think more highly of the second of Anh Do's books. The kids at school really like them and so I bought the second for the library. I still can't get past the very blatant toilet humour. Past the introduction of the character's name Weir Do, the jokes in the story aren't very clever. The story itself is short and the book is mainly illustrations. These are okay, but reflect the humour of the book.
Overall, I realise that I am not the target audience for this book. The kids I teach are excited to read it, but compared to other books in this genre I find it lacking in story and wit. I wished I liked it more!

This was a good book but I’m a little to old for these books.
These books are for starter readers and also the book is short. So that’s why.
BUT I’m not saying that I’m not going to read the series.
Well besides that, Good book.
The only thing that I found boring was the start when Weir told me about his family since I’ve already read that book.

Readers continue to get to know Weir Do, the friendly boy with a funny name, in this, the second title in the series. In this book, Weir and his classmates take a field trip to the zoo with his grandfather along as a chaperone. Weir tries on Bella's glasses and draws an unflattering picture of her. Although his costume for her birthday party is ruined, Weir and his strange family end up providing entertainment and saving the party. I continue to like the fact that being different is embraced here rather than needing to be changed. Because there are so many images and the font is large, readers will be able to read this book quickly, laughing a lot along the way but also thinking about some of the situations Weir encounters and how his family always seems to have his back. I'm sure many young readers will be able to relate to Weir's embarrassment over his mother's frugality as they watch her stock up on several shopping carts' worth of toilet paper and have the family fill up on food samples in the grocery store.

{My thoughts} – Weir Do is back in an all new book. In this book he is getting ready to go to the birthday party that he was invited to in the first book. This is a fun little quirky book about a boy that is learning that just being who he is is what’s best for everyone.
He has his strengths and he has his weaknesses but he overall is a fun, silly easy to get along with boy. He is so excited for the party and the day before things start going wrong. He eventually figures out a solution but more things go wrong on the way to the party. Eventually him and his family make it and things go a little differently than Weir had wanted, but I’m sure he wouldn’t have changed any of it, even if he could have.
I really liked reading more about Weir. He is a fun character and he helps to show children, that the best thing they can do is to be true to themselves. You learn that same lesson over and over and over again in the first book in the series as well as this second book.

The second book seemed to be a little more geared toward the target audience. Not as much gender stereotyping as in the first book, although we can still see it mixed in here and there.
It bothers me that a young girl is shown to be bothered by how Weir sees her and draws her.
I don't think that really sets a great example for girls in lower elementary grades...plus, why would she care? I know many girls who wouldn't have given two Oreos about what his picture said.
Other than that, I did like how his family comes to save the day even after he describes how embarrassing his family can be.
I still feel like the theme he is trying to get across is not judging too harshly. It's a great idea but maybe didn't capture it as well as he could have?

These books don't stop being good clean fun (if your definition of that includes mild toilet jokes; it happens mine does). Weir is an eleven-year-old white/Vietnamese biracial boy and a totally awkward dork.
Unlike most geeky kids his age though, Weir embraces his... well, weirdness, and revels in his own skin and strange luck. He is, of course, a master of lemons-to-lemonade. It's very easy to believe this book was written by a bigshot Australian comedian.
The first book in the WeirDo series, I bought in bulk at the Scholastic warehouse sale and use it for birthday party gifts for friends of my rising second and third grader.
My six-year-old, who reads at a fourth-grade level, devours these. I've just ordered #3 for her upcoming birthday.

The author Anh Do wrote this book and I loved it. There were many parts of the book that made me laugh; for example, it was hilarious when Weirdo ate pig ears! And then when his dad does a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong burp I was grinning ear to ear. Roger is the second funniest character in the Weirdo family, like when he is eating noodles it comes out of nose. Good grief!
The drawings in the book are amazing, fabulous, and silly.

Weirdo is back again and apparently he is even weirder. This book is good but it didn't bring anything new to the table its basically just an extended version of the first one. Im not saying its bad, im just saying its as good as the first one. Still i love Anh Do and i will hope to read all his new books. Oh and my favourite part of the book is the pets. 4/5

it was really funny because first, he was shopping for a birthday present and he ended up with 2000
rolls of toilet paper. The party was a dress-up party and Weir Do dressed up as a frog then it got ruined then a toilet paper mother got wet in the rain. Then he made himself into a vending machine and the present he gave bella was a frog necklace.

More of the first- WeirDo not a great example for kids. I do like that he sees in this one that his family isn't as weird as he thinks, but at the expense of someone else's family, and based on the opinion of the girl he wants to impress.

I didn't read the original book which may be the reason I didn't enjoy this book as much, but then again , I most likely am not the target audience. This book is about a boy named Weir Do and his adventures at the zoo and Bella's birthday party. The first chapters are mainly about toilet paper which did not grab my attention. I would have this book on my shelf for students who like silly books.

My favourite part of the book was when weir and his mum go to the shops and buy 200 pounds of toilet paper. They bought the toilet paper because it can be used to wipe up messes.
Another funny part about the book was when weir used itchy bum cream to wipe his bottom. I found this part absolutely hilarious and weird.🙀🙀🙀

I read this book to model silent reading in class and get some of my reluctant readers interested. I already got a 12-year-old interested in reading this book, so I would consider this a good high-low book. It’s pretty funny and doesn’t feel dumbed down.

Weir has been invited to attend Bella Allen's costume themed birthday party. Weir is trying to find the perfect gift for her. During a class visit to the zoo, Weir finds what he thinks is the perfect git, the only question is will Bella like it, and will Weir survive the party.

In the second Weir Do book, Weir visits the zoo and goes to his friend’s party. Like the first, it’s short and easy to read with lots of hyperbole and incongruity, plus illustrations. Boys especially will love this series.

Second in the series by Ahn Do about the kid named Weir Do is quite funny with some real laugh out loud moments. It is a great read and enjoyable for all ages, not just for those it is marketed at.
