This book is incredible! It is exactly what I was looking for. I checked it out from the library and I talked about it so much that my best friend ended up buying it for me for my birthday.
After reading many books on essential oils, I have to say that this one is my very favorite. It takes you through the history of oils and explains why it is that they work. The research and detail in this book is superb. There is also a section where it takes you through a list of oils and explains the history and uses of each one along with scientific studies about the oil itself. It includes a section where you can look up your ailment and find the best oils to treat it as well as a section for cooking with oils and body/home recipes using essential oils. If you are interested in learning oils inside out, this is a must for your library!

I've been using essential oils for five years almost to the date, but I didn't realize how much I was underutilizing them until I read this wonderful book. I learned so much about the power of natural remedies, I want to replace the entire medicine cabinet as well as all the cleaning supplies in the pantry. The only problem is I'm going to have to do some legit saving before I can afford it! Quality essential oils are not cheap, but I've made my priority list and will slowly work my way through it. I was describing the book to a friend and said, it's like Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life with oils. Between the two, I really feel ready to prevent and face (when necessary) any ailments without first turning to a synthetic drug.

This is a very informative book with beautiful photographs and helpful charts to better understand the properties and benefits of essential oils. The book is divided into sections including foundations of use, a comprehensive listing of oils, a listing of ailments and remedies, and everyday uses like aromatherapy, massage, skin and body care and home cleaning. Our environments and bodies are overtaxed with toxins and it’s a good idea to replace these man made chemicals with God’s botanical natural healing oils for better health outcomes.

I finally finished this book. What a great resource! I've tried essential oils before but after reading this book I doubt that I had the proper quality so now I want to try them again.

Essential Oils: Ancient Medicine by Josh Axe, Jordan Ruben and Ty Bollinger (2022), 503 pages.

This is a really good basic guide for learning about the history of and using essential oils in your daily life. It is printed on quality, slick paper with assorted colored sections and beautiful photography. The three authors who wrote this guide uses essential oils religiously in their daily lives. They each have their own healing stories to tell.

Josh Axe was 14 years old when his mother went through chemo and radiation for breast cancer. When it returned 10 years later, he walked her through an intensive organic superfood program and supplemented with essential oils. Her cancer went into complete remission. Today, she remains cancer free.

Jordan Rubin, who cured himself from Crohns Disease back in early 2000’s and published his experience in the book, “The Maker’s Diet” (2003), was diagnosed with a metastatic cancer in 2008. He also went on an intensive organic superfood program and supplemented extensively with essential oils. Today, he remains cancer free.

Ty Bollinger became interested in essential oil healing after so many of his family members were diagnosed with cancer and had died because of the treatments, not the cancer. He travelled around the world talking to doctors who have healed holistically and began sharing that knowledge through his docu-series called, “Quest for the Cures” (2014). I have watched them and even own the DVD set.

Essential oils were used to heal in Biblical times, and all three of these authors start each morning by giving thanks to God first with prayer and meditation while applying or diffusing frankincense oil. There are 600 references to essential oils in the Bible, also mentioned as fragrances, odors, ointments, aromas, perfumes, and sweet savors. Unlike what we consider essential oils today, the essential oils of Biblical times were merely herbs mixed in with olive oil.

There are 21 pages referencing the research studies on these essential oils, if you want to learn more. I only found one problem: The “Research Studies” section often do not correlate with the “Home Remedy” section. For example, research shows that Frankincense has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body by blocking 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme responsible for inflammation. But, the home remedy used to reduce inflammation: 10 drops each of helichrysum and lavender oils in 1/2 cup coconut oil. I’m sure both remedies work, but I thought it was odd that, at times, they didn’t give specific instructions on how to use the scientifically researched essential oils.

Clove, Myrrh and Peppermint are all oils used for oral health, killing bacteria that lead to cavities and preventing or even curing gum disease. You will usually have to pick and choose which oil would be best for you, considering the other benefits listed, and, if you are on certain medications or not.

Recipes using essential oils are also included in this guide for food, hygiene, household cleaning and for pets.

MOUTHWASH (Recipe, p. 465)

2 c. spring water
5 drops peppermint essential oil
5 drops tea tree essential oil

Shake to mix each time. Gargle 30 seconds. Spit out.

NOTE: Nothing wrong with adding a little stevia to sweeten.

I've read a host of essential oil books, but I thought this book stood out from the rest, because it not only included specific oils, using oils for specific health conditions, and diy essential oil recipes, it also highlighted using essential oils during prayer and the importance of oils with Christianity and Biblical history.

The chapter on Healing Touch "By His Wounds" Therapy was new yet exciting for me, and I immediately went to try out the therapy on myself. I'm going to try it for a few weeks, with topically using oils while praying and focusing on scripture, for healing.

The essential oil recipes are also very useful! I haven't really used oils internally, but I feel a little more confident in using them for health conditions as well as food recipes. There are some tasty-looking recipes that use oils such as peppermint, citrus, rosemary, ginger, and cinnamon.

Had this one requested from the library forever, so what piqued my original interest was in the past by the time it showed up. I don't use any oils except in some cleaning recipes but the layout was very visually appealing and engaging. I didn't read it straight through because it was full of reference pages for each oil or conditions you can treat with them. But I did find the history, chemistry and different recipes for Household, personal, etc uses very interesting. Appreciated the Biblical approach although anointing was heavily emphasized.

Loved this book! Interesting and informative. Very comprehensive. I was pleasantly surprised that it had sections I didn’t realize it would have; pets, food, all sorts of recipes (food, body care, home care), ties oils back to their uses in the Bible (super cool). I even used the info in it to successfully treated a hip issue I’d been dealing with for the last three months and the ortho couldn’t figure out. Well rounded read and a must for any alternative health care library.

A great reference!
I still have doubts on ingesting eo though….
I still think that it is dangerous these sales people demonstrated on themselves ingesting the oils neat directly into mouth or via capsules
Yes these oils are from the plants but they are so much more potent than what you put inside your daily meals..

I have purchased this book and read it from front to back many times. I use it as reference almost weekly. Not only is it a guide to using essential oils in your home but it also offers other plant based wellness and health tips. Highly recommend reading if you are striving for a toxic free lifestyle.

I actually have a ton of books on essential oils, but this one is my new favorite and it’s filled with great information. The oil profiles give exactly what you need to know to confidently use EOs to help yourself heal. I had initially bought the ebook version first, but was so impressed with the content, I bought the physical book when I finished the digital. I’m glad I did! They didn’t have the spiral-bound version available in the EU, so I have the regular version. I do see how the spiral version would be even better, as to keeping the book flat when referencing it for a blend.

This book is suitable for anyone who is interested in essential oils, no matter what their level of experience with this alternative form of treatment for common ailments. The table of contents lists out the essential oils in alphabetical order. A list of common ailments is the other list that ties back to the specific oils that treat those ailments. My understanding of how to use essential oils safely as well as how to maximize their usage has benefited greatly from reading this book.
