Bedrohte Arten

Rate this book

A perfect introduction to endangered species around the world, talking about the most well-known animals as well as showcasing some less famous animals who are in danger of extinction. I liked how the book started with an analysis of how we humans have damaged the natural world and ended with a call to action to stop any further damage before these species are lost to us forever. The facts about each animal are shocking and sobering, but the author does a good job of also looking at steps in the right direction. This leaves you, overall, with an impression of hope and a determination to do something, rather than feeling depressed and hopeless. The stunning illustrations interact perfectly with the text and help to bring each animal to life.
I will be sharing this with my pupils!

An introduction to endangered species, divided into continents with each section listing an assortment of animals. The illustrations are graphical in design rather than realistic but are quite striking and in gorgeous colours. There is a fact box listing the location, threat and status of each animal featured together with further information about it. The book concludes with a list of other species that need our help, a call to action giving small things we can do to make a difference and a list of websites for further information. There's no index which would have been useful.
