"Buffy. L’Ammazzavampiri", una delle serie TV più conosciute e amate in assoluto, si è conclusa sul piccolo schermo tra il 2004 e il 2005. La storia dell’ammazzavampiri più famosa del mondo, però, non era ancora giunta alla fine, e così il suo autore – quel Joss Whedon regista, tra le altre cose, del primo film degli Avengers – decise di portare a compimento la lunga epopea di Buffy sfruttando un altro medium: il fumetto.
Perfettamente inserita nel canone della serie TV originale, Buffy. Stagione 10 si apre con la sconvolgente scoperta di un nuovo tipo di vampiro: una specie di succhiasangue assai più resistente di quella a cui Buffy e i suoi alleati erano abituati, un nuovo nemico in grado di muoversi alla luce del sole e, soprattutto, di trasformarsi in altre creature della notte... proprio come Dracula in persona!
Un nuovo inizio per la cacciatrice un nuovo passo verso la fine della storia originale come l’aveva pensata il suo stesso creatore.

Das Buffyversum ist mir nicht sehr vertraut, ich kenne nur die 1. Staffel der Fernseh-Serie und den ersten Dark Horse Omnibus. Das waren die Anfänge, und wenn man von dort in die 10. Staffel springt, braucht es eine Weile, bis man überhaupt eine grobe Orientierung hat.
Inhaltlich geht es - natürlich neben Buffys Erfüllung der Pflichten als Vampir-Jägerin - im Kern darum, dass die Regeln der Magie neu geschrieben werden können / müssen im Buch Vampyr. Logisch, dass jeder gerne in den Besitz des Buches käme, um seine eigenen Träume wahr werden zu lassen oder seiner Spezies Vorteile zu veschaffen. Buffy und ihre Freunde müssen sich zahlreichen Herausforderungen stellen, damit das Buch nicht in falsche Hände gerät.
Verantwortung, Freundschaft und Liebe sind die großen Themen, und auch wenn die Story sich hauptsächlich wohl an jugendliche und heranwachsende Leser wendet, muss ich zugeben, dass sie auch mich gut unterhalten hat (und nicht nur, weil sie mich von Zahnbeschwerden abgelenkt hat). Buffy und ihre Freundes-Clique wachsen schnell ans Herz (wenn sie da noch nicht waren), und bei aller Konfrontation mit dunklen Mächten und Monstern bleibt die Serie bildlich und wörtlich hell, sympathisch und warmherzig.
Die gebundene Library Edition im amtlichen Format von ca. 21 x 32 cm präsentiert die Zeichnungen herrlich großformatig und prima gedruckt. Zum Schluss finden sich noch Skizzen und Variant-Cover, kleine Meisterwerke, die zu bestaunen ich kaum müde werde:

Finalmente un fumetto che racchiude lo spirito dell'originale Buffy.
Sono ritornati tutti i personaggi che ho amato nella serie TV, seppur con qualche cambiamento, ma soprattutto è tornata a farsi sentire una trama coerente, che ha delle vere basi.
Mi sono piaciuti tanto le ammiccate fatte alla serie TV ma anche questa nuova evoluzione, ho sentito per tutta la lettura le vibes della Buffy che amavo.

Quanto mi mancava Buffy! 🥹
Sto apprezzando questa decima stagione molto più della nona, la trovo un po’ più autentica, un ritorno alle origini.

La magia è tornata, ma ora non ha regole, che devono però essere riscritte: questo apre ad un mondo di possibilità.

Non ho apprezzato molto il ritorno di Giles in realtà: non che mi dispiaccia che l’abbiano resuscitato, ma proprio non riesco a vederlo come un adolescente… per quanto a livello narrativo sarà sicuramente interessante come sviluppo del personaggio.

Spero esca presto il secondo volume, devo sapere!!

That’s more like it! I absolutely hated almost all of S8/9, it made no sense whatsoever. S10 fixes a lot of that (and I can see that the same writer is responsible for Angel & Faith S9 so looking forward to that as well) mainly by... well, undoing all the stupid stuff. No more Spike-in-space-with-aliens. No more Xander/Dawn grossness (and really, reverting Dawn to her S5 emotions worked for me a LOT bc so much of Dawn’s character development in S8/9 was nonsensical, so this just wiped the slate). No more everyone-bones-everyone else (and thank god, Willow isn’t a nymphomaniac anymore). Yes we do still have the endless “no one stays dead” (we see Giles and Anya and Jonathan, and are even teased with the possibility of Tara - thankfully averted) but somehow it worked a lot better here.

What else did I like... the humour I think worked well, even the surreal bits. Dracula, the pillow fight, it all seemed a bit more surreal than the tv show, but not excessively so (it reminded me again of S4/5 and the dynamics there). I think my favourite part of Buffy is the found-family element, and this brought it back in spades.

Feeling a lot more positive about the remaining volumes as a result!

È stato come tornare a casa. Dopo 5 anni di attesa finalmente ritorna la Scooby Gang e io mi sento come se rivedessi dei vecchi amici. Devo dirlo: graficamente non è affatto raffinato - sarà che vengo dal tratto ricercato di Bruno Redondo - ma non lo erano neanche le stagioni precedenti in effetti. Il vero cuore di queste storie sono ovviamente loro: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Dawn, Spike… personaggi che camminano da soli, e come li metti, li metti, ti faranno emozionare sempre. Can’t wait for volume 2.

After Season 9 had the Magic Seed restored and Giles resurrected, we've got the Scooby Gang learning the new rules of magic. The Slayer handbook has had a factory reset with magic brought back. The rules of magic are literally being rewritten. Newly created vampires are sturdier, shapeshifters, and able to walk in daylight. If that can change, ANYTHING they knew of magic is bendable.

Guess that means we have to check on Dracula...again
...and that whole Xander as manservant thing comes back into play (ugh!)

The magic reset has also fractured the Xander/Dawn relationship. Dawn, back to square one and dealing with past trauma again, leaves Xander to figure it all out. Not to be left out, we've got Andrew doing more Andrew stuff. EVERY Season he's doing something stupid to try and atone for his supervillain past.

Bonus: The only character that, I THINK is healthy is Spike (with his soul)...

Almost wish we could get Andrew killed off. (Actually, add Xander to that list). Is it bad writing or just bland characters? Both have made zero progress in growing as individuals. Hell, even Harmony has 'changed'.

I enjoyed reading this, but it felt unoriginal at times. I also do not agree with the Buffy / Spike dialogue on rehashing season 6 in season 10. First it’s been 4 seasons, so this conversation shouldn’t be happening now and it was cringe and appalling. I cannot believe Joss Whedon wrote this scene in season 10. The media news is right, Joss Whedon is not the self-proclaimed feminist he believes himself to be.

Honestly some of the best Buffy's been since it moved to comics. Season Nine was an improvement, but Ten is fully back to what Buffy did best: focus on characters and humor. The big bads are just the vehicle from one character beat to the next. (Also much better art with Rebekah Isaacs taking over - I like Georges, but the characters didn't look close enough to the actors for my tastes)

Assolutamente consigliato agli appassionati e a chi vuole continuare la serie dopo la fine della settima stagione televisiva.

One of the slower arches. While things happen it feels much more monster off the week versus actual plot development.
