Witches of Hollow Cove #7

Witching Whispers

Rate this book
Get ready for this laugh-out-loud adventure and find out what's brewing next with the Davenport witches!

I was hoping for a few days off from dealing with murder charges, bad guys, and the everyday paranormal bizarre. All I wanted was a nice break from all the crazy. And did I get it? No. Of course not.

Instead, a new coven comes to town. A coven of witch females who call themselves, The Sisters of the Circle, a small elite group for the upper crust of witch society—according to Dolores.

But there’s something off about this coven, and I just can’t put my finger on it. All the while my aunts and other witches in town worship the ground they walk on, like giddy fangirls.

Forget my time off. What I got was a whole new set of problems as my life spirals down the crapper once again.
If that isn’t bad enough, a curse settles on Hollow Cove. Something dark, ominous, that threatens the lives of the townspeople. If I don’t find the counter-curse on time, I could lose everything.

And the clock is ticking…

Don't miss the next book in The Witches of Hollow Cove series. If you like fast-paced urban fantasy adventure with a kick-butt heroine and plenty of action, suspense, and humor, you’ll love Witching Whispers.

You know the expression who needs enemies when you have family? Yikes… poor Tessa. It doesn’t loudly how loudly she hollers things are wrong with the Sisters of the Coven Circle, her aunties won’t listen. In fact, they want to join the coven, especially Aunt Dolores. Tessa wants no parts of it, and of course the Sisters want her.

All of this is sidetracking Tessa’s efforts to train and become a full-fledged Merlin. Even her demonic lessons are set aside for this little town happening.

Shifters stuck in their animal form icky witches talking in your head and no one listening is enough to have poor Tessa pulling her own hair out. The story is funny, sad, suspenseful and even annoying. I snorted at the name Tessa mentally starts calling the sisters. The girl is snarky.

As much as the story is snarky, it has a good mystery with plenty of suspense and spells to break. The story unfolds at a nice pace and the author builds on the overall story arc.

Devon Sorvari does a delightful job of giving voice to these characters and capturing their personalities. Her tones and pacing build on the suspense & humor of the tale.

If you love small paranormal towns with snark, suspense and mystery, you’ll enjoy the Davenport Witches and their magical P.I agency.

If the Golden Girls were witches. I like the plots, the characters but sometimes I wonder about the high reputation the Davenport Witches hold. In this last book they really showed characteristics of the Golden Girls TV characters with the absent-minded Ruth, the defiant Delores and the always sex pot Beverly. Loose cannon Tessa seems to save the day, sometimes with a little help from her aunts and sometimes without. But they don't play as big a part in her training or work as I would think. Then steps in the elite coven, jealousy, distrust and black magic hits the town. Ronin, Iris and Tessa's Dad who are always there for her despite her sometimes-extreme independence need to be featured more.

“Maldita seas, Tess. Te dejamos sola diez minutos y el mundo entero se va a la mierda”.

No me ha gustado tanto como los dos anteriores. Sin embargo, ese final me ha gustado bastante. Tiene pinta de venirse curvas.

Not quite a 5 but close.

This is my favorite book of the series so far. There is such a good message from Tessa who is not "perfect" by what some consider to be a coveted body type. When given the chance to change her size, lose her curves, her rolls, her cellulite, she forcefully declines. She is very happy with every bit of who she is. To be happy in ones skin (pun intended) is not an easy thing. The author is to be commended.

Tessa wakes up to quite the racket coming from downstairs. When she arrives in the kitchen expecting a party or something close to that, she's informed that the Sisters of the Circle are in Hollow Cove. Dolores is positive they are here to offer her a spot, well her and the rest of the Davenport witches.
Apparently, they are a big deal in paranormal circles as they are rich, powerful and elite. When Iris arrives, she has with her the coveted invitation. Then it's a frenzy to get ready, wouldn't want to be late for this party. Tessa struggles mainly because she really wants no part of this but for Dolores' sake, she will suffer through it. When she sees the wards on the door, she's also worried about her demon side being exposed.Tessa's reaction entering is very different from everyone else, it was hard for her to take the steps through, but she makes it okay. It would have been fun to watch these crazy witches, dressed like they belong in the fifties and acting like the 'Stepford Wives' if it wasn't for the voice in her head. The voice that sounds like the leader of this coven, Jemma.

The worst thing is her aunts don't believe her and Dolores more so than the others accuses her of wanting to destroy her chances to join them. They can't fathom anything being wrong with this coven.

Iris tries to help but thinks she actually made things worse. Talking things through with Marcus helps and he even tells her she can move in with him.

A conversation with her Dad helps with the knowledge of her new demon mojo. At least she'll have help learning to control it.

Things go from bad to worse when Tessa's aunts hold a dinner party for the Sisters of the Circle. This is amusing with childish food play between Dolores and Tessa until Obiryn shows up. Thankfully Beverly saves the day playing it that he is her date. But then Jemma offers a position to Tessa not Dolores.

Then something totally unexpected happens, every shifter in Hollow Cove has shifted and can't shift back. The gather at Davenport house for the Merlins to help them. Only what has worked before doesn't work now.

Nothing like a time limit to have everyone working to find a cure. For Tessa, it means keeping Marcus calm, and figuring out what that dang coven is up to.

There are plenty more surprises ahead, and I couldn't put this book down until everything was solved.

„Witching Whispers“ by Kim Richardson is the seventh book in the “Witches of Hollow Cove” UF series, which follows Tessa, a witch in her early thirties that left NY (after ten year trying to pursue a career in the city) broke and heartbroken, to come back home to Hollow Cove and live in Davenport House - the family state- with her three eccentric aunts and works in the family’s magical P.I agency ‘The Merlin Group’.

This story is hilarious… even by Davenport standards. The high sought after “Sisters of the Circle” coven is coming to visit and everybody wants an invitation to the party and an opportunity to become a member, well everybody except Tessa. But it is not up to her, Aunt Dolores wants in, and what Aunt Dolores wants… isn’t exactly what is going to happen. The ‘Sisters of the Circle’ party develops into a ‘Stepford Witches party’ (Tessa’s own words, not mine, but I totally agree 😊) and what is even worse, nobody…nobody! With exception of Tessa seems to realize that there is some very weird stuff going on. As Tessa is accepted (remember she didn’t want in min the first place, she never applied) as a new member, the ‘stuff’ goes from weird, to freaky, to creepy with shifters stuck in their animal form and town under the spell of the “Sisters of the Circle (of Doom)’ 😉 Beware before reading, this story is a frontal attack to your laugh muscle.

“Witches of Hollow Cove” is a fast-paced UF series, that mixes eccentric witches, a supernatural town population, the occasional mystery, and a snarky heroine into entertaining mix of murder mystery, supernatural UF and chick lit.

Great until it wasn’t

Sooooo, this started out strongly. As always Tessa and company were widely entertaining and it was non stop action and randomness.
Where did it go wrong?
Too much happened in this story and it was like in the rush to save Hollow Cove and be the best witch ever, a lot of things were forgotten and glossed over.
Every book in this series constantly highlights how much Tessa doesn’t know and yet she’s not researching and practicing with her aunts at all? She made plans to start learning more about her demon side and emerging abilities and yet…nothing came of it. If Iris is living in Davenport house and is often assisting Tessa and her aunts at every turn…why isn’t she interested in being an official Merlin by now? It also sounds like she spends almost all of her spare time with Ronin, yet no mention of those two moving in with each other.
During the last book, Marcus made a huge deal about trust and transparency between him and Tessa. Yet he didn’t think it necessary to mention he hired his ex-girlfriend and Tessa’s arch-nemesis to his current girlfriend that he declared his mate?
Although Delores and Ruth are depicted as much older, we never really touched on why they were all still living together, childless and hadn’t taken on any apprentices. It’s the seventh book in the series and it still hasn’t been mentioned.

Tessa finds out a very popular and high society coven Sisters of the Circle. Tessa realizes she has to go to this party for her Aunt's. Something weird happens at the party, Tessa makes a run for it. Tessa tries to tell her Aunt's want happened, but things get worse between them. Tess enlists the help of her friends to her, but they get now where. Tessa decides to find her father due to what is happening to her but what is going on with this coven. Shifters are attacked and things will come to light. It take Tessa's unique heritage and the others to fix what this coven started. They will have to try to figure just what the new visitor is going to do.

This an interesting storyline with that amazing twist at the end. Tessa is enjoying her growing with relationship with Marcus. Tessa is learning to deal with her new found ability. I enjoy the dynamics of Tessa and the rest of the characters. You with this book, will get to see the other side of her aunt's that is not to nice. You will enjoy this book, will look forward to the next one.

Better

Tessa has never heard of the Sisters of the Circle much to all her aunts disgust... they have celebrity status within the witch world and Dolores is determined to impress them... she's determined to be asked to join the coven.

So when Davenport House receives an invitation for all the witches who live within to attend a party at the "Sisters" rented house despite her apprehension Tessa attends with Dolores, Beverly, Ruth and Iris.

As they pass through the warded, witch scanning doorway, Tessa is hit with a wall of pain radiating through her head, followed by a voice talking to her. She's on edge and that's not alleviated when she meets the Sisters themselves.

Stepford witches is how she sees them, almost identically dressed and styled with a clear 50's vibe. There's an undercurrent that Dolores, Beverly and Ruth miss completely and it's about to cause a rift, especially when Tessa is invited to join the coven at a soirée Dolores planned despite Tessa's concerns that something is seriously wrong...

Another fun read by Kim Richardson. This addition to the Witches of Hollow Cove finds a coven of witches visiting Hollow Cove called the Sisters of the Circle. This coven is basically number 1 and every witch wants an invitation to meet them in the hopes of becoming one of their members - except Tessa. But her Aunt Dolores wants in beyond all reason. They're invited to a party at the Circle's temporary residence where Tessa meets them and thinks they are weird. Mentally she starts calling them the Stepford Witches. Then she starts hearing one of them inside her head which is apparently bad news. When Tessa says she thinks they cursed her, her aunts all but disown her. Then strange things start happening in town and Tessa is invited to become one of the Sisters of the Circle instead of Dolores. It all goes downhill from there. Told with a sense of humor and a few chuckles here and there, this was a most enjoyable read.

As a whole, the Hollow continues to slide more interesting, and I'm mostly enjoying the ride.

I have a few areas where my brain itches because like sure the Davenports are irritated that they keep getting blamed for stuff, but seemingly before Tessa showed up the Cove was quiet. And in the span of like six months of her moving in an living there, all hell has literally broken loose like every week. There's never any downtime.

And I know, I'm getting into this series late, so there are like ten more books already out after this, but when listening to this side by side with the Dresden Files - in which the author has the different books happen six months to a year between each other, that timeline makes so much more sense. You need some low, some downtime, between all the high-impact arcs of nearly dying or being accused of murder and all.

Am I continuing? Absolutely though.

Witching Whispers is the seventh book in the Witches of Hollow cove series by Kim Richardson.

They're a new coven in town. The Sisters of the Circle. Tessa is going to a party with her aunt and of course something weird is happening to her. And now she's hearing a voice. She's blaming the new girls, but one of her aunt who really want to join the circle don't believe her and thinks don't go well between them. And to make think worse, the shifters sudendly all shift into their animals form and can't shift back. If the curse is not broken in two days, they will be stuck like this.

Really loved this one and can't wait to read the next one. I have received an arc of this book from the author!

I am kinda sick of how people treat her. Her Aunts were quick to throw blame, in the cemetary burying their kill, at her and how it is her fault they decided to follow her advice. Her boyfriend did not even offeri her a ride out of the wilderness and then hired his ex, who is after him again, and did not even mention it. Her Aunts not believing her.... sigh....
There is also grammar mistakes where they refer to the wrong person, etc. Ruins the flow. It is also coming off as childish not funny. I am done with it. I am not feeling drawn to Aunts or boyfriend, who are main characters. Silent treatments, really?!? Maybe they were spelled too?!? I just don't care anymore.
The negatives just keep piling up... ruined!

Unexpected

Tessa and her aunts are unexpected, and such a breath of fresh air, unabashedly themselves and quirky eccentrics! So when aunt Dolores declares she wants to be part of a special witchy group and actively campaigns to join (very unusual for such a recluse) Tessa unhappily agrees to make the effort to be part of the group.

It all turns to ah, kaka with the stepford witch group since they are trying to recruit Tessa, not Delores and ultimate kidnap Delores as a hostage and force Tessa to magic a massive spell for them bringing them a deity and a darker one at that with massive consequences that have to be revealed later for all - a fasincating tale and an absolutely worthwhile read

This story continues to amaze me. It keeps me fully engaged with the story throughout and I am always entertained by Tessa.

Tessa takes us on thrilling and entertaining adventures that are filled with action, suspense, magic and all kinds of trouble. Her growth over this series had made her into one hell of a kickass woman. She's become formidable in her own right but there are still new things she is continually learning and having to deal with.

Fantastic story writing! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Keeping Tessa Busy . . .

I really liked the tone of this book which kept me chuckling throughout the story line. Poor Tessa never gets a break, but the readers love her and she keeps us amused. She has to deal with the strange Sisters of the Circle and a curse. Drama is the name of the game for this bunch, and they do it so well. Grab your copy and see what they are up to and where they are headed next! You’ll love the journey!

This story is my favorite so far, the author really built up the plot and there's more to look forward to in upcoming chapters.
It's still following the same pattern because there's always a fight going on but at least she's being creative with the drama - LOL.
Tessa's character is maturing a little bit - thank goodness because she's a pain in the ass and annoying as hell but she's getting better.
Looking forward to the next one.

I absolutely love this series. Although I do have to say that poor Tessa doesn’t ever get a break. She goes from one crisis to another. There is lots of family drama, evil plots and havoc run amuck. It seems this series gets better with every book. Can’t wait to see what trouble Tessa gets into next.

Life is never easy for Tessa and between the Sisters of the Circle and a curse, she does not get her vacation from the craziness that is her life. Entertaining, with new characters, old favorites and a crazy town, I loved it. Hard to put down and so easy to get lost in as I had to see what Tessa and her aunts would face this time around.

Witching Whispers is the seventh book in The Witches of Hollow Cove series. This is a fun series to read. Tessa has to deal with a new coven in town, The Sisters of the Circle. This book has eccentric characters, action, suspense, drama, and humour, the combination of which captured my interest from start to finish.

Davenport mayhem

Tessa is up to her shenanigans again. Or I should say the shenanigans are stalking Tessa again. Nonsense shall endure with the Davenport witches. Although daddy dearest was suppose to have lessons on controlling her demon mojo that didn't happen. Daddy Jedi needs to step it up.

Couldnt finish :( I got to 40% and was so annoyed at the aunt's treatment, as well as the constant battles Tessa was always going through. With outside forces, Allison, lack of info from dad, etc. Jumped to chapter 25, read the last three chapters, and yet I feel like I missed nothing plot wise but doing that. :(
