Another one of those sweet, easy read, sphagetti westerns. The plot is very simple, but beautifully delivered.

This isn't a book for the nuanced readers, who are adept at plucking depth of characters, tone of the book, the overall literature. Instead this is for one, who is looking for a simple good guy vs bad guy, with the good being too good, and the bad being downright evil. Throw in a love story, goofy and loyal friends, a horse which is as good at understanding the situation as any human for that matter, and general romantic ideologies of good and kind deeds and nature.

Another interesting thing to read and note in the book, was the racial tones and subtext. There is a continuous "American" man vs Mexican vs Injuns (Indians) vs Mixed-Breeds. Though the protagonist befriends another race, he also is almost rubbing the racial differences between them and the "mixed-breed" antagonist. Sure a mixed signal - cause on one hand the Author seems to be suggesting one shouldn't see races, while, maintaining at the same time his version of American Men are better than every "Race" - but could be ignored for the reason that this after all is a story of American Wild West.

Here's the most interesting thing of them all - Oliver Strange - pen name - is actually an English author. I knew this, cause I have been obsessed with "Sudden" since I was 11; hence to see the "racial" arithmetic in the book was even more interesting for me.

Can feel a little clumsy structurally at times but vivid prose and gloriously witty dialogue made this one addictive page turner and a wonderful companion to hold in my inside pocket.
