The New History movement has greatly influenced this book. It waters down most materials, although it does at times read like a college text book. An extreme focus on Western Civilization leads the book in to the troubles of not defining Western Civilization in accordance with the rest of the world. Furthermore, the religion sections were heavily biased, especially those written about Christianity. I think a high school student could form a more impartial section on Christian religious elements than the current authors.
