Shayna is having a run of bad luck. Abducted by aliens, frozen in a cryopod, then thawed out and tossed into a cage to be a meal for a giant sentient spider!
I have been waiting for Baht's story and I freaking loved it!
(First and foremost I just have to say what another awesome cover. Beautiful job.)
We pick up where things left off from the last book with Baht. He was being held in a cage and human girl was thrown in to be his dinner. That girl is Shayna. She decides the best way to keep a giant man spider from eating you is to be super kind and polite, while talking his ear off with your anxious chattering.
I just loved Shayna's personality. She stayed calm and steady, even when it was just a fake mask she was using to keep all the predators at bay. Shayna remembered to never look weak. She killed them all with kindness and kept herself from being some alien's little snack. Except the one giant alien spider that she didn't mind tasting her all over.
And my man Baht was as considerate and sweet as always....but a filthy dominant side came out I was not expecting. He had come to enjoy how Mandy from book one wasn't scared of him and envious of Seven's relationship with her. Baht wanted his own soft and sweet human that wouldn't be afraid to touch and love him. When Shayna is literally thrown in his lap, he decides she's gonna be his to protect and care for.
This was sweet but with plenty of darker moments thrown in, when Baht and Shayna get force to return to Baht's planet. This is pretty insta-love but in the super stressful situations they had to face and Baht being so caring and protective of Shayna I could see how that could form a strong bond quickly.
Baht did everything to meet Shayna's needs and then some. It was so romantic the way he would bring her thoughtful gifts and leave them for her to find. But when it came time to get down to business....Baht was definitely in charge. With his venom heightening all the sensations, Shayna was more than happy to go along for the ride.
With eight hands there's all the more ways to grab hold tight, and do naughty things to your prey.
Super hot! I loved it and can't wait for the next one. What the hell happened to Earth?!
(Ahem, Bebe....Baht was so dirty and sexy I would really like a novella or two to see what happens with Sid and Sam. I need more of this smutty spider goodness!!)
Even though this was an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’ve had a soft spot for Baht since the first book. He’s a total giver, super sweet and charming. But he’s also maudlin, as much as a martyr as anything.
Baht is a spider alien or more precisely, an Arana Vora. They’re an interesting species that only feeds on sentient beings because they absorb the personality traits of their meal.
At the beginning Baht hasn’t fed in 30 years which is twice as long as any other of his kind is capable. So, when the latest abductors toss a new female; Shayna into his cage it’s surprising he protects her rather than consuming her.
This was by far my favorite of the series. I liked the pacing, the character/relationship growth was fabulous. Shayna is super endearing with her nervous chatter. The way Baht adores her is incredibly heartwarming.
It gave me the cuteness I loved from the first book and the steam I adored in the second.
Oh the steam! With Baht’s euphoria inducing bite, with his vibration and interesting attributes it made for some titillating smut. Not to mention his possessiveness and that filthy mouth. Good Lord!
Can’t wait to find out what happens in the next installment.
4.4 stars. Yep. Alien, humanoid spiders are hot. Scary. But hot. In NO other version would a spider creature be anything even close to pleasing to the senses. *shudder*
But Baht. He’s stoic, uncertain of himself, really he just doesn’t see his own worth because of his inherent nature. But from the start Shayna tries to appeal to him. It’s sort of adorable how she rambles on and on when she’s nervous, and Baht thinks so too after a little while.
This was weird. It was most definitely Alien. Parts of it reminded me of Tiffany Roberts’ spider themed trilogy. Mainly because there seems to be a theme with spider-alien males being smaller and subservient to the females of their species.
Anyway. I didn’t know if I would enjoy this when I first went in, but I can for sure say I had a really good time now that I’ve finished it.
The plot picked up a little before the last book ended to show us Baht and Shayna’s POVs, then caught up and diverged. I thought it was interesting, and it definitely kept my attention. The characters were unique, some of them terrifying at times, and I really liked them. The sex was hot and different and a little vicious. Exciting, honestly. I like the little role playing they do. It’s sexy and dangerous.
I just liked this. Probably more than I should have for what it was. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Well, I read the first two books (which I thoroughly enjoyed -thanks Niki ) to get to this one.
Because, spider sex!
I was excited for Baht's story because we had seen him in the previous books and he was a fascinating character. I loved that he thought of Mandy (book 1) as his best friend. That was the cutest ever!
So Shayna ends up in Baht's care and he takes quite the liking to her and decides to keep her and protect her given the whole situation with Earth. They end up back on his home planet, meet more of his kind (who thankfully don't eat her despite being the most fearsome predators in the universe) and then manage to escape to be together.
Not going to lie, I expected some use of webs here during their coupling which didn't eventuate but Baht is hot for a spider guy and makes his human happy so all good here!
And, yes. I am very much looking forward to the next book !!!
Spider alien’s bite by Bebe Harper. 5 stars. I have been waiting for this one! I liked book 1, didn’t care for book 2, but this one blew it out of the park. I’ve been waiting for Baht to get a book, he’s my book boyfriend for sure! But I also loved the heroine in this one too. I was worried there might be other woman drama, but nope! This book ends with a huge event and I can’t wait for the next one.
Well… that was a bummer. I was really looking forward to Baht’s book, but it was a bit of a trainwreck. The book felt like it was rushed, from the lack of development, to putting the dum-dum h in charge, to the info dump epilogue… It was messy.
I enjoyed the first part a lot. Baht is my favorite character and I loved getting more background on his species and home planet. Shayna starts out a smidge annoying and couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag, but I found her quite likable … WAY better than Gloria from the last book.
Things started to go a bit sideways after they visited his home planet. At first, I was getting The Spider’s Mate vibes with the evil queen choosing Baht as a breed-mate, but that part is brushed over quickly… unfortunately. My first real issue was the couple’s relationship… which came out of nowhere. At that point, they hadn’t had a ton of page time together then suddenly out of the blue Shayna initiates sex… when they hadn’t even kissed yet.
And if fucking is so imperative, why haven't we fucked?"
It was whiplash. Now, I love aliens in my sci-fi, but he’s a spider, and I’d think there’d be a little bit of a process to get to wanting to sex him up. 🤷♀️
Things went off the tracks towards the end. It was super rushed. The author tried to tie up the “Earth Apocalypse” subplot that was introduced at the end of Lu’s book, but it was handled so quickly that she lost me. Literally, they come up with their plan in a paragraph… and it made zero sense.
And the epilogue is a hotmess cruising through 50 years of info dumps and skipping over anything couple/romance related. What ever happened with Mandy’s babies? Did Lu and Gloria have kids? Are Baht and Shayna not compatible? What happened with Ken?
Bottom Line- This one missed the mark for me. I know it’s fluff, but I expect some level of romance… and for it to be somewhat logical. The epilogue pushes us 50 yrs. in the future and looks like the next one will take place on Earth. Possibly with the werewolf/ dog-people aliens that had Mandy at the beginning of the series.
Jac’s notes- SPOILERS
Crimbulonians “smarts/founders” that disappeared… planet was thought to be destroyed. Humans ended up living on Salhuteck’s (Lizard) planet. Her Bestie Deah is dating that asshole Shawn from the first book. Queen rescinded Baht’s Breeder designation.
Honestly this wasn't all I thought it would be. Ensnared does spider-alien's better. This was still fun though just not exactly as good as the previous two books. The Earth question is fascinating though and definitely something that's got me hooked for the next book.
I am an absolute SUCKER for Bebe harper's books and this Urf Oomons Series! It is so unique and clever and special. It has wit, banter, chemistry, and heat, making for an explosive combination in Sci-Fi romance that is as smart as it is funny. I've been crazy about Baht, our Arana-Vora hero, a gigantic, sentient, spider-like alien who we first met in Mandy and the Tentacle Monster. I was thrilled when I heard he would be getting his own book and needed to get my hands on it ASAP! Shayna, our FMC, was a sweet surprise. She was fearless, albeit anxious at first when "meeting" Baht but they way they instantly bond with each other was so sweet and I am absolutely here for their story and the way it unfolded(not to mention how hot it was). I was also so happy to see familiar faces again in the book and the twist (which I did NOT see coming) was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Way to set up the next book, Bebe! I'm so looking forward to it. Well done with the series and this one definitely hit it out of the park! **I received an Advanced Readers Copy but all opinions are my own**
Such an interesting story. Arana-Vora, voracious and deadly but Baht is different. I don't really like spiders but this one didn't creep me out. In fact, I liked it!
Okay, tbh, I had a high expectation of this book ever since I read the 2nd book. How could I not?! Baht was a spider-like alien that ate sentients. Yep, you heard it right. We're the snacks for him. And he fell for a human female that he sort of accidentally saved and grew an attachment to. Our h, on the other hand, was fresh and new to the alien's life. She just got kidnapped, got injured, and thrown in a cage as a meal for the spider-like-alien, so that the kidnapper didn't get eaten instead. Talking about the worst case of Stockholm Syndrome. But as Rihanna said, "We found love in the strangest place".
So, you see how excited I was. However, along with the story, I had difficulties actually picturing how this couple built the romance. For one, Baht was a spider-like alien. I mean how is the relationship even possible. How did it work with all those 8 lengthy and skinny legs?! Did they even compatible. Even as I read it, I just had trouble picturing it in my head. Second, the story just got dragged a bit when they went to Baht's planet. It was then turned weird with all the twists and turns that were a bit unrelated to the main story. So.... yep, bit disappointed on this one. I like the 1st book better. This one was a bit lacking in courtings. The chivalries and (bit of) affections were there, but I feel it still be lacking; maybe the major point was that I couldn't imagine the MCs coupling. Spider and human.....
No contraception Dual PoV, 1st person Spider-like alien H, human h Bit drama with H's queen No angst No cheating, OW was H's queen And somewhat I think two jr Aranavora's were having a crush on h Yes, there's sex scenes between MCs Safe read-ish, HEA, epilogue Overall score: 2.5 alien romance stars
While this third installment in the series could be enjoyed as a standalone, I recommend to read this series in order for better understanding of the world it's set in, starting with Mandy and the Tentacle Monster.
Spider alien Baht develops protective feelings towards the snack his captors provided him with, and instead of eating human Shayna, he takes her with him on a trip through space - back to his home planet populated by rather dangerous spider aliens. Shayna takes this all in stride. While I rather take a slipper or a handy lil vacuum to take care of spider problems, she just tries to talk them to death.
This is the third book in the "Urf Oomons" (alien phonetic for "Earth Humans") series and lacks a bit of the cuteness of it's two predecessors. It is still a fast paced easy read with low angst and interesting and likeable characters. The final plot is stretching the technical probability in a science fiction environment even more than it was already obvious before, but what really costs it a star in my rating was the sex scene due to .
I like the way Bebe Harper tells a story and will definitely stick with her.
Yes! Things start moving in the continuation of this series, and many of the activities and happenings that we saw glimpes of in the previous books come alive in this one. Glad that we delve more into Bahts world and as romance advances so does the story! I will not say much more so as to avoid spoilers, but expect, mysteries, misunderstandings and romance.. Very down to earth human characters and also very alien... aliens! Looking forward to the completion of the series!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Each book is better than the last one. I am so happy Baht got his own book and HEA. It was great to see the characters from the first two books make an appearance. I really need Kim and Sid to have their own book. I can't wait to see what happens in the next one. The disappearing Earth mystery has me fascinated.
Love monster alien romance!! And Bebe Harper has done it again!!! Great world building, lovable characters… even Sid and Sam🤣🤣, 🔥smexy times. Loved that dirty talking Alien!! Such a great book and I can’t wait for the next one!!
Not as charming as the first, kinda bland. I liked the first one and it's humour, but there was hardly any noteworthy interaction between Bahd and Shayna. I would have liked to know mor about Sid and Kim at some point. Oh well
I don't know... this is definitely my least favorite of the books so far in the Urf Oomons series. Maybe it was the spider hero? Or that it felt a little rushed? Or that the plot with Earth didn't really make sense... or I didn't really care? I want Ken (the third tentacle brother) to get a story, though - so if/when he does I'll probably read his.
You have to give kudos to Shayna with the way she reacts when she first sees Baht. Not only has she been abducted from Earth, stuck in some sort of pod thing and now the property of someone else but she is now fully aware that aliens exists and not only that, there are also some that apparently eat people. She has been designated as the next meal for the huge spider-man creature that is being kept in a cage on the ship she's on. She doesn't fall to pieces, instead she tries to befriend him which shows far more courage than I would probably have, anyway I digress. Baht is very surprised that Shayna doesn't appear to be running screaming, for which he is grateful, but he is also aware that he is a danger to her. He likes that she chatters away and his first ever true friend, Mandy, is also a human woman. He would not want to do anything hurt someone like her. So he decides that he will save himself and Shayna by admitting to the claim of his Queen. One has been advoiding for decades! Somehow, being in a cage with Shayna has made him care for her and he will not do anything that would put her in danger. Could she maybe be persuaded to care for him also?
***I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review***
I fell in love with this series through the cover for Mandy and the Tentacle Monster and I'M SO GLAD I DID. I love these throw back pin-up covers and I love these books.
Baht. Oh Baht. He is having all kinds of internal struggles, and his last meal is really messing with him. Shayna should really be more upset about her designation as "food", but at present, her companion doesn't seem hungry? Watching the two of the dance around the elephant in the room was amusing. Bebe once again wrote an absolutely charming book about terrifying alien monsters and adorable humans boinking themselves into happiness.
10/10 would recommend to all you monsterfudgers out there.
I loved this book. I was fascinated with this series from the beginning. I found the stories fun and unique. This new addition to Urf Oomons was just as enjoyable. Great world building. I loved the characters. I was really happy to get Baht's story ever since I encountered him in a previous book. (He's also my first spider alien). Spiders may freak me out in real life, but spider aliens I don't mind reading about at all. *wink* (I know I must be weird!) I only wish more of the story was told from Baht's point of view. In the beginning, POVs switched back and forth between Shayna and Baht, but after a while, the majority of them were Shayna's. I loved it nonetheless and can't wait for the next book. 5 stars.
I love the Urf Oomons series, and I loved getting Baht’s story! We learned bits and pieces about him from the previous two books, so I was excited for his story! I wish we could have gotten a little more of Baht’s feelings in this one, it’s mostly from Shayna’s POV, but I still really enjoyed the book! I will definitely be checking out anymore from this series and author!
There are some parts of this book that I found super annoying. For example when the earth disappeared it was not “completely decimated“.
Other parts of this book, like the non-humanoid aliens, I found very enjoyable. I also would have liked it better had I not read the epilogue. Endless life through regeneration tanks, and an overview of what happened to everybody else, broke down the storytelling aspect and made it feel more like a book report.
