Chased by the Elder Dragon Royals, my men and I flee our beloved kingdom and sail across the sea to the unknown Fae lands. We're ready to unravel all their lies.
The Elders claim that prophecy says the first female dragon shifter will end the kingdom.
What if the first female dragon shifter will just end them?
But I'm not the only one with secrets in my past. Jaik and Caldren, brothers with a deep rivalry--and my love--have to face their dark past that left a deep rift.
And all these dragon shifters I've trained with, especially Branok and Lynx, have to face what they did to me when they thought I was their enemy, Lucien Finn.
To survive the new Fae lands--and the elder Dragon Royals--we're going to have to forgive each other for the past and forge a new future. Otherwise, our kingdom really will fall--and so will we.
Wow, what a disappointment after book 2 was good. There were a lot of issues with the writing (content, editing, proof-reading) that really took away from the book. This book moved entirely too slow. It dragged on and on, with jumping around randomly, and nothing seemed logical for moving the story forward. The POV (point of view) changes got to be super annoying, as just as it would become interesting in one area, there would be POV change to a whole new unrelated area. I do appreciate POV changes to see what the other characters are thinking, but this gave me whiplash from the way it's done. By 20% I was ready to quit, but tried to keep going, just in case it improved, but it just didn't. My attention just wasn't there & I lost interest in the characters & what would happen next. I really hated the RH relationship jag where one minute they love Honor & the next they are all confused about it & Branock is just a whole world class of piece of shit in IMO, there’s no resolution from his crappy behavior to suddenly all about Honor, just suddenly he’s “in” the relationship. I need more to be able to grasp that turn around as real & not just a quick patch by the author. I don't understand how she can be ok with him. Part of that was some of the guys were manipulated on & off by outside influences (like sirens, Talisyn's father wiping his memory of Honor, conflict among the guys, some memories starting to return for different characters...) that really mucked up the dynamics of the RH as a whole. So much happens to hurt the budding relationships (of the ones that were all about Honor) but then nothing really happens to move the story forward enough to make me care about all of them since they don't seem cohesive as a group or if they can stay the course to a HEA for the RH. I don't normally quit a series if I've enjoyed the first 2 books, but I am disappointed & wish I hadn't picked up the first 2 books in the series to read in addition to this book, but this just left a bad taste for me, that I'm not invested into the series to want to continue.
At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
This book was great for action but seemed to be lacking everywhere else
I don’t like Jaik, I don’t really understand the appeal, I don’t particularly like Caldren either. I would be happy with Talisyn, Lynx and Damyn but Talisyn is off the board for now at least, Lynx was barely in this (whilst Branok got more page time) and there’s no development on the Damyn front. I loved book 1 & 2 but the characters and story just lacked something in this book. Honor seemed withdrawn and happy to allow the guys to put her into the damsel category. I’ve binged these books up until now and I know the next book isn’t out yet but I wouldn’t be in a rush to read unless I know that it’s the last. This book was a lot more difficult to read than the previous 2 which I couldn’t put down.
I am so conflicted on this one. I loved the first half; there's a lot of action and machinations going on, and we see more of the world as the troop splits up to go on individual quests. But when the group split up... it went a bit haywire from there. It's told in alternating storylines between each group, but it winds up very disjointed and a little pointless at times. Honor does get a chance to develop more of a relationship with the other dragons, but she's very blasé about leaving her mates behind for months. And her reactions when she loses some of the closeness with one of them don't even make sense. The emotions seemed muted on everyone all round (except when there's sex involved). It builds and builds to this big epic event, but then everything is really rushed and seems very inconsequential, and the giant problem they were trying to work out and plan is never explained and just basically says: yeah, we did the thing. And then it is never mentioned again. The passage of time is a little unclear, but from how things are on return it's been a decent number of months and somehow in the other storylines what's transpired isn't on the page, and it's a very different return. And again, Honor's reactions are weird, because she is freaking separated from everyone but Jaik and Caldren in the middle of a damn warzone and never even has a single thought about her other guys. Two days later she finally mentions something. Two days. Honestly? It stopped making sense in the last half hour, and there were a bunch of typos (alter/altar, to/too type things) and it was a bit of a disappointing mess at the end there. It lost cohesion and the purpose of their whole adventure didn't go anywhere. I've finished, but I couldn't actually tell you what the plot of this book was, because it derailed at some point and just wandered around for a bit, changed its mind and went off to have a lie down. It needed to end about 100 pages before it did, and I don't think drawing it out did it any favours.
The plot was all over the place and my interest in the book dwindled with each page.
In the area of the characters… Im sick and tired of the overbearing and condescending bastards who actually think they’re better than everyone else and in this case, that’s just all the MMC’s.
There hasn’t been any change whatsoever in their view of dragon supremacy or in the case of Cladren that he’s better suited to rule.
Im genuinely getting tired and uninterested in the development this characters could possibly have because the lack of growth and development.
In the case of Honor, she is a strong FMC who will fight her own battles, and individually I really like her, but as the center of the harem she’s not really that important o significant.
The relationships and interactions between each of the MMC’s and Honor were based on having sex and banter, that’s basically insulting each other, but real conversation and connection? Nah, I haven’t seen much of that, the whole emotions area is muted in this book.
Each of the MMC’s are tiring in they’re own way and Im getting frustrated.
Jaik with his condescension and asshole behavior, Caldren with his useless POV and both of them with they’re feud and overinflated sense of self, Arren and Branok with they’re hot and cold and insta love with no foundation whatsoever with Honor, Lynx with his barely there personality, Talisyn as an unimportant and memory-less character and Devyn as a potential but not even there love interest. And don’t even get me started with Zehr, is he really going to become a love interest? Because Honor, honey, you can barely manage the ones you have and adding him to the mix seems messy.
Everything about this books is built shallowly and every problem just looked over, Im really disappointed with this is as a whole.
Pd. That was the worst fucking ending in the world of endings.
I was so excited for this book to come out because the first two novels were SO GOOD. When I noticed the book was pushed back for release by a month, I just thought she was putting extra care into editing.
Something MUST have happened between the last book and this because this was a hot mess.
Just a side note, before the review: I will still support the author and read whatever else comes out because I'm certain this novel was just a small hiccup. I have faith she will make better decisions in writing in the future. She's proved she's capable enough!
A lot of novels, published or self-published can have grammar and formatting mistakes. This one had way too many. Names and places were misspelled (One was misspelled one sentence after the original spelling) Chapters on my kindle were not formatted as such and just popped up like another paragraph. Lots of inconsistencies. For example, the characters would be talking inside, only to magically end up outside with no explanation. The author also would have scenes with characters missing, but then they appeared as if we were supposed to know who was in the room/around. It was one of those stories where the reader has to piece some things together to make sense of how we got to where we were, and the mental somersault was not anticipated. Lots of context missing as to what happened or is happening.
The plot was so all over the place. Of course, I'm happy with how the story is going, but that's about it. Each scene was rushed or maybe cut down like crazy.
So many moments where you wanted to see reactions from characters, only to get literally NOTHING?
The ending was so rushed, there were scenes we needed to see but won't get because there are too many men and the author probably can't keep up. I won't spoil it, but you'll know what I'm talking about. I feel bad leaving such a lengthy negative review, but I really was disappointed with the execution of this one. Maybe she switched editors halfway through? That's the vibe I got.
Horrible editing. Second half of the book was so disjointed and boring I skipped half the pages. Disappointing because I really enjoyed the first two books
The first two books were great but this one was so disappointing. The plot lacked immensely and contradicted itself. The book had such great promise but the plot became too messy and tried to include too many things at once. Honor also lacked as a character as her abilities weren’t explored more. Disappointed as it was a good series but won’t be reading the next one.
I think this is where I end my journey. I always ask, do I want to continue reading or should I read spoilers? If the latter is stronger, I know it is time to call it quits.
Sadly, this one is a DNF for me. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, however these are pretty long books and it feels like there’s no real progress in the plot of each book. I pretty much got lost at the Talisyn storyline because it felt to me like things are moving backward rather than forward on the romance front. I don’t really like ‘build-a-harem’ books to begin with (and I didn’t know that’s what this story was until I was already in too deep). I can understand and even enjoy slow build for relationships, but to be in book three and still have no certainty on where things are going or who is endgame is just annoying to me. I also don’t like the hints of additional characters who were not perceived romantic interests now being hinted at as interests. I think we’re up to like 8 now? It’s too many and I feel like it’s just crowding out the original core of the whole dragon bond connection. Maybe if those relationships were more solidified I wouldn’t care as much, but at this point I still can’t even keep Arren, Branok, and Lynx straight. This series keeps throwing out a lot of questions without really providing answers and it feels like a way to just keep selling more books, especially when every single book ends in a massive cliffhanger. My line in the sand is the uber powerful memory man though who can just erase people’s memories and control people’s movements and ability to speak. The whole missing memory aspect of the story didn’t speak to me in the first place, so making it an even larger part of the story in book 3 was just not my thing. Also, it feels like it happened and then nobody really cared all that much or did anything? They all just kinda moved on while their friend literally had an entire chunk of himself just taken away. It felt wrong 😕
There’s quite a bit of editing issues here too, wrong names, typos that kinda stuff. Doesn’t bother me, but might annoy others
Dnf just because I was getting a little bored with the story especially with how no one thinks all the other people with screw them over (the Olds, the King). The MMCs and FMC just keep putting themselves in situations that if you have been battles from book 1- thru now there’s a track record. I’ll come back at some point to finish the book I just need a breather.
We are back with Honor and her men and the fantastical journey they have to take! Immediately I found myself back in this incredible world as once again more challenges are thrown on their path. Twists and turns and surprises keep not only me but them on their toes and we do get a little more back story. The relationships are really growing and coming together and there is plenty of steam and sizzle as this RH adventure captivates you from beginning to end!
I enjoyed this one for its diversity though I wished they’d had a chapter or two when jaik & tal were in the mines. It felt like they were just gone and then all of a sudden back and knew to get the boat back? Seemed odd.
Otherwise I like the development of the plot and the plot twists in the last section of the book. I’m definitely eagerly waiting the 4th to find out about Arren. Oh, and the last steamy scene was super sexy.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This one was wow. You learn a hell of a lot in this book but I still have question I need answered. I can't wait to read the next book. It's going to be one hell of a ride after the cliff-hanger in this one.
Honor is hunted by the Elders claiming that she will destroy their kingdom, but what they don't want to realize is that it's never been "their kingdom". Honor and her guys travel to the fae lands to escape the Elders and find a way to overcome the obstacles in their relationships because they need to show a united front in the upcoming war.
I need the next book ASAP because that cliffhanger is terrible. What's gonna happen next? I need to know now.
Honor and her men Jaik, Caldren, Talisyn, Arren, Branok and Lynx are just stunning I am having a ball reading this series and can't wait for the next book
This book really keeps you on your toes the entire time! The elders have shown how they aren’t to be trusted and it all come down to Honor and her guys to bring things to an end.
A fantastic story that is rich in detail and flows from the pages with expert precision. The characters are full-bodied and have their own identities. Each one brings something to the group and as a whole they are simply wonderful.
May Dawson has brought to life an amazing story and leaves you wanting more!! I can’t wait for book 4!
Oh my! This book is a gigantic beast!! It’s sooo good!! Honor and her men go through so much in this book! She gets to bond with more of her harem, which I enjoyed immensely. They learn more about Honor’s past, Jaik’s past, lies are uncovered, secrets revealed, all while so much action and steam are happening! I absolutely loved this book but the cliffhanger might have destroyed me!!
The storyline is so good, you guys. Even if you took the smut out of this series, I would absolutely read it. Of course, some smut is always nice, amirite? The final 25% of the book is soooo good. Really fast paced and exciting. Our heroine, Honor, didn’t annoy me as much as she did in the last book. But I still have problems with larger harems. She just seems to keep racking up men. And while this is a work of fiction, I still find it really hard to believe that super hot alpha males that have a ton of women at their feet would be willing to share one woman. I don’t care how beautiful she is or how powerful she is. Personally, I find this notion of “I’d rather have some of you than none of you” incredulous. But, it’s the author’s work and they can present characters however they like. Perhaps my time with the RH sub genre of books is coming to an end. I get that this is completely a work of fiction, but I still want a little bit of realism in my stories. Dumb I know. Or maybe, I just need RH stories where harems are part of the society in which the story takes place. Such as the Vampires Blood Mate series by Lili Zander, where harems are just expected so there isn’t the notion of trying to talk a bunch of strong alpha males into sharing a woman. (That is a very good series by the way, but I digress)
In this book, we find out a lot more about Honor’s background, and some of it is pretty interesting and unexpected.
I still get irritated with Honor and her incessant need to insert herself into the relationship between the brothers Jaik and Caldren. Most of the time, I don’t understand why she gets angry with her men. She spent a good part of the book angry at Jaik for not seeing her strong and powerful. But to his knowledge, there’s never been a female dragon shifter, so why would he even think that she was one? In fact, she told him flat out that she was a squirrel shifter. So she’s mad at him for not figuring out that she was under an enchantment, even though that is the exact purpose of the enchantment . . . To keep her from telling her men who she really was. She spent 75% of the book angry at Branock for not apologizing to her for his treatment of her when she was “Lucien.” But when he finally gets around to apologizing, she acts like it was nothing and says, “I had forgiven you along time ago.” It was just so annoying.
I do love the storyline however , and will definitely continue with the next, and final, book. I do recommend this book to fans of PNR romance books particularly RH stories.
Overall, I really like this series. It definitely has its flaws but as a whole I do enjoy it. So much happened in this installment, some of it was done well and some of it seemed a little too rushed, namely the final few chapters.
The e-book has a few formatting issues between chapters and has some typos but it isn’t really too bothersome.
I kind of started noticing this in the last book but I feel like on several occasions, especially during dialogue, it seems like little pieces are missing. Like responding to a question asked a line or two up but not acknowledging anything that immediately followed the question or a character seemingly ignoring what someone has said or done. I can’t tell if it is supposed to be intentional character moment or accidental though.
Again we run into the too many love interest/too much plot problem as two of the guys get entirely sidelined without a single pov chapter to check in with them while they are off doing their own thing. I also haaaaaate what is going on with Talisyn. Especially since there isn’t enough attention given to the issue. Missed the opportunity to really drive home the angst. Also, some of our characters were separated for *months* but their reunions seems more like they were separated for hours. For as much as some of these characters claim to love one another it seemed very out of sight out of mind to me. Things with Arren sort of progressed but wasn’t really given the space for it to make sense, there was no movement at all with Damyn, and it feels like there is going to be yet another member added to the harem in the next book. I think the balance between the relationships is going to continue to be a weak point in this series.
I am however enthusiastic about the developments between the twins and Honor. Loved the way it played out! The tension between Branok and Honor is the most well done dynamic of all the guys and her during both the second book and this book imo. The amount of attention this relationship gets is what I want for all the others.
I’m kind of torn on how I feel about Honor as a main character. I like her personality and can see her potential as a powerful and badass Queen but I don’t feel like she is really given the opportunity to show that. I also hate how she lets so many issues go so easily. She starts to express her frustrations but then very easily allows them to be pushed aside. I really want her to stand up more firmly in her opinions and beliefs.
I know it seems like I griped a lot but I do really like this series. I’m very excited to see how things unfold with the next book and hope to see the author continue to grow as a writer!
If you haven't read the other books in this series STOP! Go back and read them in order. These are huge books with much happening in every chapter. This is where we are now.
At the end of the last book, Alina and Lucien run away. Caldren helps by getting them to Morick's ship. Honor in the guise of Lucien is captured and King Pend arrests him and sentences him to death. Talisyn is desperately trying to convince the others that Lucien is Honor. He's figured it out finally.
Jaik has marked Honor and is getting memories from her. He's come to the realization that Talisyn is right and now they have to rescue her.
In an interesting twist of fate, Honor is put into the cell next to Alis. Alis believing the young Royals will come save Honor, connives her into teaching the spell to look like someone else. Alis knocks out Honor expecting to be rescued alas that's not to be.
Jaik and Caldren get Honor out only to be trapped on the roof by Pend's assassin Faleen and then she's falling...
In the prologue of this book we learn what actually happened to Jaik and Caldren's mother Leira. This seems to be the root of the distance between these brothers.
Arren almost gets himself in trouble as he witnesses Lucien's hanging. He doesn't realize it's not Honor. Branok comes to the rescue there.
In the meantime, Jaik scoops up Honor and comes back to get Caldren, who jumps on his back. They go to a small house, but they can't stay there long. Apparently, Caldren is trying to get close to Pend to learn weaknesses and to earn some credibility has told him of this hideaway.
Honor and Caldren have a moment and he marks her. Now she has both Jaik's and Caldren's marks. This should be interesting. Arren and Branok show up as they return to the house, and shortly thereafter Talisyn, Lynx and Damyn arrive as well.
Damyn and Caldren need to return and Talisyn and Arren want to talk to their fathers, to see what they know or don't know. For now they believe Honor is safe as the King believes she died as Lucien.
Honor starts dreaming of the Lord of the Scourge, the thought they are tied together somehow is terrifying.
When attempting a meeting with the Lord of the Scourge, things go a bit haywire, Caldren at Jaik's bidding runs with Honor, to keep her out of sight of the kings. While the battle rages King Pend speaks with the Lord of the Scourge. Not a useful conversation, and then the Lord of the Scourge disappears once again. This time facing the Kings, the fallout is devastating for Talisyn, his father, Teris removes all his memories of Honor.
A bit of a battle ensues when Honor interferes, and her magic explodes. Now they all have to flee. Jaik and Caldren on foot, since Pend did something so Jaik can't shift. Arren with Honor, Talisyn, Branok and Lynx flying to intercept Morick's ship.
Reuntied with Alina and the real Lucien, Branok and Lynx have to come to terms with their sister's love. Also on board are Nora and Bryden of Caldren's crew.
They are heading to the Grey Kingdom, this journey will have a few revelations. Honor will learn why Jaik pushes Caldren away. They also start planning how to learn of the magic that was lost to them years ago. They also have a big of a scare with some sirens, that has Honor with Lynx and Branok not knowing who is who. Honor is heartbroken that Talisyn doesn't have any memory of her or their love for each other. He's trying though.
Once they arrive, Alina and Lucien head to their new home and Morick helps find rooms for the Royal Dragons. No one can know they're dragons though, since it's outlawed to travel from their actual home.
So many surprises in store for them all in this kingdom. One of which they bring upon themselves by trying to steal magic books from King Kallus' library. Arrested Honor meets Zehr who helps them all escape, only to be recaptured. This is when we learn that Honor is his niece, and she is indeed the daughter of King Lysander and Queen Amily.
Talk about twists, King Kallus set them tasks to accomplish. Dangerous ones in the Poison Kingdom.
Caldren has his own problems back home, what with King Pend not trusting him as the rebellion seems to take on a life of its own.
So much happens in this book, Honor learns so much, and the bond between her and all her dragons intensifies. Well except for one.
Intrigue, suspense, battles, romance, sizzle and so many surprises.
I don't think it's a spoiler to tell you that Honor was saved. I mean it would be kind of weird for the MC to end up as a splattered pancake on the floor considering there are a couple more books in the series. Now they're on the run because they don't know who actually saw that she is still alive. Arren and Talisyn are trying to figure out what's going on and meeting with their fathers, as expected, the meeting didn't go too well and Talisyn hasn't been the same since. Fortunately, all young royals finally know the truth about Honor impersonating Lucien and as Talisyn predicted, they regret what they did to her as Lucien. Damyn advises her to not forgive them so quickly for everything they did, but he knew who she was from the beginning. To make matters worse, they have to keep fleeing because the Old Ones now know Honor is still alive. Morrick helps them and they flee across the sea to the Grey Kingdom, where all sorts of adventures and unexpected surprises await them.
Sacred Honor picks up directly where Dangerous Honor left off. Book 3 of the Dragon Royals series is well written, we finally learn more about Honour's past and who she really is, even if we already had a few suspicions. The writing is good, the story is exciting and, slowly but surely, Honor is winning over the other men. However, there's not quite as much humour and fun in it anymore, I don't know why, but it took me much longer to read this book, whereas I literally inhaled the first two. I somehow had the feeling that this was a filler book that was just building up the tension for the grand finale. Towards the end of the third book, you wonder whether a grand finale is even possible, only to get a mega cliffhanger that almost broke my heart.
What I didn't like was Caldren's personal development, I feel like he grew so much in the first book and there was hope for Caldren and Jaik reconciling at the beginning of this book, but the way he behaved in the end of the book disappointed me as he seemed a bit cold towards all but Honor. Also, he basically stole from her, even though she intended to finance the war with her gold, he had no right to just take it and she just didn't even react on the fact. This whole situation was just weird.
Fortunately, book 3 has far fewer mistakes than book 2, but one mistake that really irritated me at the beginning, and that runs through the whole book, is the spelling of a name that has suddenly changed. Whereas the assassin was called Faleen in book 2, she is now called Feleen with an E. With such big mistakes, which also occurred in book 2 Dangerous Honour, I just wonder whether no test reader/proofreader really noticed, let alone the author herself? How can that be? We're no longer just talking about minor spelling mistakes here, that must be noticeable when you read over it again. What I personally also found a bit confusing and here comes a little spoiler alert: Honor as Lucien is in the dungeon together with her stepmother Alis (whose name in book 2 and I think also in book 1 didn't have a constant spelling and changed between Alice with a C and Alis with an S and without an E) who tells Honor in book 2 that she is her mother, because her parents didn't want others to know about Honor, so she carried her to term and is her biological mother. She also told her her real name: Elora. With Alis' death in book 2, which happened shortly after this conversation, it simply never came up again. In book 3, she learns more about her origins, but neither Alis' nor her name plays a role. Was that just a lie? Has the author forgotten this scene? I was hoping that this will come up in a later book of the series, but having read the whole series, I know, that the fact was just swept under the carpet. Overall, I'd still very strongly recommend the book, it is well written and throughout the series their world is slowly building up, we experience characters' growth and dive into all these mysteries that are slowly being solved. Even though the book was a tougher read (to get through) for me personally, the whole series is beautifully written, with enough world building and interesting characters. In particular I loved Honor's development and what a strong woman she is becoming.

Lucien Finn is dead, no, that means Honor is dead. At least, that’s what everyone thinks. Alis, Honor’s stepmother, is the Lucien who was hanged at the gallows. Honor has escaped death with the aid of most of her Dragon Royals and is situated at a safe house. The question immediately apparent within the group is “How long before they’re found?” Jaik, Caldren, and the other royals decide that the answer is “not very long.” They begin making plans to find ways to save Honor from “The Olds” and the unease that is creeping across the kingdom. They decide that the safest route is for Honor and the Dragon Royals to leave the isle after some information gathering. Arren and Talisyn set off to meet with their fathers. Damyn and Caldren are off to deal with their own matters, rebellion and royal respectively. Jaik, Honor, Lynx and Branok are left at the safehouse to work towards finding a solution to recover locked away and erased memories. Their mission all have some success and some failures; Jaik is left with the truth behind his mothers death, Talisyn is forever altered by his own father, and Caldren is left behind on the isle after a plan broke down. Morick, Caldren’s pirate associate, takes the Dragon Royals and Honor across the sea to the Grey Kingdom to learn the magic necessary to overthrow “The Olds.” Honor and her royals work to blend in but they can feel eyes on them at all times, like they’re being watched. Can they learn a new society, interact with new magical beings, and outsmart a Fae King?
Obviously, at this point, this book sticks with high fantasy. The reader is introduced to new worlds, new magical beings, and most importantly new magic itself. There are new world conflicts that must be overcome. The book sticks with the reverse harem trope and more men are added to Honor’s entourage. There are multiple points of view seen throughout the book and I still love that. I love being able to piece the events together from different perspectives. This book sticks with the same themes as the previous books, familial trauma, societal hierarchy, misogyny, and a few others.
This was done similarly to the other books. It picks up where the last book ended so well! I think that this book was good, however, it was so slow initially. The first 37% of the book focuses on the isle and the trip on the ship. It wasn’t bad; however, it was slow and felt repetitive. Then at around the 75 – 80% point, the book sped up exponentially. It felt like things were being skipped/glazed over so quickly. Some relatively large editing errors are seen throughout the book from about the 37% point onward. There are some issues with what feels like a relapse, or a rewind. I thought it was established in Dangerous Honor that Honor knew which “golden twin” was which; she could differentiate between Lynx and Branok. Suddenly, in this book, she fell back into not knowing which twin was which. Some ideology and core beliefs feel conflicted and backtracked on. There are also some characters getting confused with others. While a few of these errors are acceptable/understandable and noted from the second book, it almost feels a little disrespectful that so many are included in this book. All these things aside, the ending leaves the reader on a wonderfully horrible cliffhanger. This was a relatively easy read at 515 pages. I am unsure if I would recommend reading past this point, especially if you cannot push past errors. I am still going to move forward and read the story though. This book is not recommended for anyone below 18 due to the graphic sexually explicit scenes.
4.25/5 Stars! Wow, this was the best one of the series so far!!!
Well damn yet another cliffhanger…part of me expected it and for it to come sooner in the story than it did but that doesn’t mean I'm any less eager to start the next book to find out what happens next in all this craziness. To finally learn more of the real history in this world was like putting pieces to a puzzle together and realizing that I am still missing some pieces. For as many questions I got answers to I was left with double the amount of questions that varied from the main characters to the world's magic and the true intentions of all the people they came across. I was more on the edge of my seat with this one and felt like it was easier to read since Honor barely annoyed me like she did in the last book; which was a wonderful thing since she's the center of this powerful, arrogant, and overall sexy harem. There were plenty of times when I wanted to smack one of the guys for being idiots but hey they're being true to their characters at the time. I didn’t expect the main characters to change & evolve as much as they did, but it was a pleasant surprise to see them grow with their life experiences. To become better people with brighter outlooks instead of hardening exteriors like some did. There were many twists and unexpected truths revealed that made me excited because the story didn’t fell too predictable. Although, some strong themes and patterns are prevalent throughout the books. Like the men falling for her, and the second they though they figured something out or got ahead in anyway there was some obstacle or horror that took them for surprise. Getting the chance to see just how secluded their isle was nice because it showed how much more diversity is in their world and not in just the people but the magic and knowledge one could access if they went to the right places. When it comes to the magic of this world I felt as if I learned only the tip of the iceberg along with the main characters, but I still look forward to learning more about these prophecies and types of magic that seem to be unheard of. {Stop here to avoid spoilers!!} ----
One character that really shocked me towards the end was the Lord of the Scourge. I had suspected that we had seen his face before and that Honor had interacted with him. But I didn’t expect to see a more humane side of him when it came to how he treated Honor calling her "love" and entering her dreams as much as he did. Part of me hates how she betrayed him and wished they would have found another way but…at the same time I get it and expected Honor to act the way she did. Another thing that still surprises me is how all the men for as possessive they naturally are can still be okay with sharing Honor amongst one another. I feel that Honor's dragon horde is the men she loves and keeps near her, and that no amount of treasure or shiny things could ever replace them. I am horrified to start the next book because I fear that the Zehr was foreshadowing a bit when he said that Honor didn't have the numbers to win the war without losing one of her men… I have no idea what such a loss would do to her, and I fear it because of how she affected she was when her gladiator friend died. I am scared it may take away some of her sunshine and possibly lead her down a darker path and cause her to do things that the old Honor would have deemed wrong or unmoral. I am hoping her and her men survive but I fear she will lose one of them to the Lord of the Scourge… but if Zehr is smart and can look ahead past the betrayal I think he will know better than to kill one of her men if he wants a chance to get close to her in the way he desires.
This book is all over the place, literally. The group leaves the isle to find a way to defeat the elders and they discover so many things about themselves and the place they left behind.
This book is much more action packed and emotional journey. Poor Honor just wants to become a powerful fighter and have her boys, but no, she gets all this other bullshit instead. I've seen some reviews saying that she a lot more damsel and subdued in this book, and I absolutely understand why the author did that. This journey for all of them has been literally life-changing and the events from the end of the last book put them on such a life threatening path. No wonder they're all a little on edge.
Ok so, Talisyn lost his memories of Honor and they just....DIDNT talk about it for forever?? And even then it never seemed like a big fucking deal. I obviously hope he gets his memories back, but the way that all played out was weird.
We discover that Honor is meant to be queen and now she's training to be queen by her fae uncle and NONE of the royals say anything or have any thoughts on the matter? It's all played out a little odd. Like nobody seems to acknowledge it and it never really comes up. And when it finally happens the book ends, rather dramatically so we really don't have time to process anything.
I wasn't a huge fan of the constant POV bouncing around in this one as I was in the last. I felt like certain chapters were a bit rushed when they shouldn't have been and vice versa. But it was super interesting seeing the different angles of the characters. Mostly we see Caldren running the rebels, which is strange because Jaik and Tal go on their own separate adventure while the group is in the Poison Islands and we literally never see a single thing about their experiences.
Branok was an absolute dick although it was really sweet when we saw his POV in that he really did love Honor. The scene in the library with Honor and Lynx was so fucking hot. I'm so happy they finally got together that way. And Arren....sigh. What a sweet grumpy baby. I'm just gonna be over here sobbing until the next book.
I still don't quite feel the pull between Caldren and Honor as I should. Although that scene in the woods, yummy. Glad to see his pure primal side coming out 🥵🥵
Overall, this book was a slight miss for me. There was a lot going on and while that's not a bad thing, some of the writing and development was lacking or missing entirely. But that ending though...whew. I'm so glad I don't need to wait too long to read the next book.

This storyline seemed so weird and underdeveloped to me. It’s interesting enough for me to continue but at what cost 😅
SPOILERS BELOW ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
•I’m sorry, but how many mates does one person need?! I recently read a different book where the character had 6 mates. It was written well but that still felt like the limit. Honor somehow has 8 mates (and counting). What’s more is that they don’t all get along and she also seems to have favorites. The fated mate troupe doesn’t work well for me if the FMC doesn’t love them all equally. It's also weird that she keeps calling her mates "friends". That really cheapens their supposed love.
•A major plot line in this book is finding out what all the enchantments are on Honor and how to break them. The quest they go on for Kallus that, allegedly, breaks all her enchantments was incredibly underwhelming. Then completely brushed aside. Literally no one questions anything about what they were or how she may be different after their removal. Did she gain more memories? Power? Knowledge? We’ll never know. It’s simply never discussed again. That was infuriating.
•It’s crazy weird how chill she is when some of her mates are in danger/captive. Like Talisyn had his memories wiped and she barely thinks about it. She’s separated from Jaik and Talisyn for weeks or a month but doesn’t try to communicate with Jaik telepathically to see if they’re ok?? Jaik is taken by his father where he’ll be beaten senseless and she’s still able to fall asleep with Caldren. WHAT?! During this same time period, she's also separated from her other dragon mates because of the dragonsbane. However, she doesn't seem concerned at all about how they are or what they're feeling until two days later. They could've been captured or killed but she shows no signs of caring.
•She *barely* tries to communicate with all of her mates telepathically throughout the whole book. They would save themselves a lot of trouble if they just spoke to each other more frequently.
•I’m confused how she managed to sleep with Branok before Arren. Branok is truly an asshole to her the entire time she has known him. There really aren't any redeemable qualities in him at this point in their story. Meanwhile, Arren shows genuine concern and care for her. Something he doesn't really show anyone. It just didn't make sense.
•The ending made me laugh. Honor gets all this power and the best way to “burn it off” is by having a threesome with Jaik and Caldren. LMAOOO. Those two went from wanting to murder each other to happily banging their mate together. There seems to be some reconciliation steps missing here.
At this point, I’m interested to see what shenanigans this next book will throw our way.
