William Boone. When the Taelons came to Earth, he was tapped to be the human who would work most closely with Da'an, the mysteriously powerful and enigmatic leader who speaks for the alien Companions.
Boone became many things: confidant, bodyguard, interpreter...and undercover agent for the human Resistance. But little has been told of Boone's past, of the events that prepared him for this perilous assignment.
Now it is revealed: from his duty overseas during the S/I War to his life in the United States, from the arrival of aliens on Earth to his first encounter with the mysterious Augur, here for the first time is the story behind mankind's first double agent in the underground war between human and alien--and the Resistance's first martyr.

The title of the book is very misleading. This is by no means a comprehensive biography or character study of the character William Boone. Instead it's a reasonably entertaining and well flowing mystery novel. Not very ambitious nor original, but pleasant to read as the storytelling is fluent and the plot okay, even if it's a bit too straightforward and predictable.
I'll have to confess that's it's been years since I last saw any of the TV-series, and even then I only had the opportunity to view the first season. Still I felt that I could follow this apparently very standalone story well.
Based on the title, I was expecting a story that took place after season one of the show, but this actually takes place before season one. We meet Boone when he’s in the military, serving in the SI War. We hear about the Taelons arriving but don’t get much detail about it. Then we see how Boone became a police officer and the story ends more or less when the series begins.
I don’t think the characterization of Boone is quite right. He seems to be lacking the vulnerability and sense of humour that Kevin Kilner brought to him. This Boone is very earnest, and not especially likeable.
There is a mystery plot that’s not very well-crafted. We hear about some incidents that need to be investigated. It would have been more successful if we “saw” them taking place and the solution wasn’t quite so obvious.
I thought it was cool to be introduced to Lt. Morovski. We also get some glimpses into how Boone and Augur first meet.
Overall, this is quite readable. It’s just not what I expected and some things don’t quite jive with what we see in the series.
This was a real treat as a big fan of the series. Auger is still one of my favorite characters and the writers get his voice down perfectly as well as Boones. Great prequel leading right up to the first episode.
