I absolutely love Heidi Goody and Ian Grant’s books, I have all the ‘Clovenhoof’ series, if you haven’t read them yet, give yourself a treat.
Their latest offering are the Sam Applewhite mysteries of which Tigerheart is the 4th. Sam lives with her dad Marvin, who was previously a famous stage magician, in the English seaside town of Skegness.
Sam works for a security company called Defcon 4, she’s the only representative of the company in Skegness although the company seem to believe that a cactus Sam has christened Doug is her boss.
Marvin and Sam’s friend Delia go to the local bank one day and are unfortunate to be cought up in a siege of the bank by a local farmer who has been refused a loan to develop a striped cabbage, the Tigerheart of the title, which he believes will take the world by storm.
Sam tries to help the police to end the siege as not only are her father and friend in danger, but the bank is a customer of Defcon 4 as is the farmer. This starts a surreal adventure involving Dolly Parton impersonators, Donkeys, exploding champagne bottles and farm equipment, as well as Sam’s mega rich ex boyfriend Rich and his Buttler.
The book is often very funny, sometimes sad, but always entertaining, I loved it as always.
